Title: Bittrex Withdraw Completed But Not in Wallet?
Post by: jerry0 on May 23, 2019, 01:17:14 AM
Hey all got a question.  To those of you who use bittrex and withdraw btc to your wallet whether its nano ledger, electrum or even another exchange, do you notice whenever you withdraw it, it shows as pending withdraw for a short while... then it shows as completed?  I previously withdrew btc from bittrex to my wallet and it doesn't take long for btc to show up in my wallet.  I also have withdraw another altcoin from bittrex and when it shows as completed, that altcoin shows up in my wallet or another exchange i use for example.

I recently did a withdraw from bittrex... and it showed as pending... then completed.  But the altcoin is not in my wallet.  Its been a short while already.  Has this happened to anyone with bittrex?  Example you withdraw say bitcoin or whatever altcoin like lisk etc to your wallet... it shows as completed.  But it still does not show up in your wallet?  If so, how long does it take?  Should i email bittrex about it?

If the transaction shows as pending... well then it make sense for it to take long.  But it shows as authorized and completed but its still not in my wallet?  If anything, this is my first time using this wallet for my altcoin but i know i downloaded the correct wallet as its from the official site.

Check block explorers. The withdraw page should have a transaction ID associated with your eithdrawal. Also, try to sync your wallets and check whether it comes up or not. Normally they flag withdrawals as complete even though the transaction didn't receive enough confirmations within the network. End result: you don't see your coins come in your wallet. If the said method failed, contact Bittrex support.

Hi there.  So click on that blue icon next to the txid correct?

What should be shown there where they did send the coin?  What would be shown there if they did not?

copy the transaction ID which is a 32 byte hexadecimal number and paste it in a block explorer like this:
https://www.blockchain.com/en/btc/tx/Tx_ID_Here (replace Tx_ID_Here with that hex). if it is found then you will see a page like this:
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/fa4130ed5394aa1233646ec41dbb5f640370da0671932167fc2c16b755996110
and if it not found then you will see a page like this with an error on top saying the reason why:
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/123430ed5394aa1233646ec41dbb5f640370da0671932167fc2c16b755996110 (in this case it says Transaction not found because i changed the txid to a wrong one)

if it was not bitcoin then go to coinmarketcap.com first and search the name of that altcoin, then in the related page you can find the block explorer of that altcoin, search your txid there.

Yes, you better contact the customer support of Bittrex. I have been with Bittrex for maybe three years now and never once did I encounter the same delayed transfer. Nothing wrong with getting into them that early as Bittrex is known to have a good customer support this will soon be threshed out for good. Though I am now more into Binance and Kucoin, I still have some tokens left in Bittrex and this exchange enjoyed my trust and confidence. So I am hoping this problem can be over tomorrow at most.

Hi there.  Its not bitcoin but an altcoin.

Okay i go to the coin on coinmarketcap.  I click on block explorer?  Then enter the txid?  There is only one explorer for that coin i use.  Why the other coins like the one you mention have 3 different block explorers?

that is correct.
as for the last question: block explorers are also websites that earn money from the traffic they get every day (from their banner ads for example) so when a coin has more popularity, these sites get more traffic so there is more incentive to create them and as a result more people build one.

But there is no coin in my wallet?

It shows recipient

And

That is my wallet address?

Okay im concerned now.  I entered the txid and it shows over 200 confirmations.  The address is the same address as my wallet...

Does anyone have a clue what could be the cause of this?

Shift is the coin.

The other thing i notice is this.

When i log into my shift nano wallet, it shows testnet.  That is the default for shift wallet.  I notice there is option of mainnet or custom node but i never changed it to that because i didn't know you could do this.

I typed in the txid into the shift explorer from the explorer on coinmarketcap... it shows over 200 confirmations.

However what is strange is when i type in shift testnet in google,

It shows

https://explorer.testnet.shift.shiftnrg.org

and

https://explorer/shiftnrg.org

I entered the txid into the 2nd one as that is the one shown on coinmarketcap.  But it shows the transaction as confirmed in the 2nd one.  So do i type it in the 1st link on google?

The thing is the shift address i have in my wallet, is the address that the shift was sent to.

Well.. you pretty much withdrawn your coins to a testnet address.. I'm not sure how exactly the shift nano wallet works, but it looks like you're screwed. From the name itself, the testnet option is just for testing stuff. Not for actually transacting in the main chain.

Definition from https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Testnet: The testnet is an alternative Bitcoin block chain, to be used for testing. Testnet coins are separate and distinct from actual bitcoins, and are never supposed to have any value. This allows application developers or bitcoin testers to experiment, without having to use real bitcoins or worrying about breaking the main bitcoin chain.

Good lord.  Does that mean i lost all my coins?

When i created the wallet, there wasn't any mention of this.  When you log in, its on testnet.  You can't even notice there is an option to change from testnet to something else...

I sent everything from the exchange to it.  Good lord.  So what happens now then?   Why in the world would the shift wallet have it set default as testnet?  You can't even notice there is an option to change testnet to something else.

I have the 12 word passphrase.  So i can't get these coins?

The thing is when i first created an account, im not sure if i clicked on new account to create a wallet or it just automatically created a wallet for me.  Then i wrote down my 12 word passphrase.  Then i logged out of it... then logged back in the shift wallet to make sure my 12 word phrase worked.  When i logged back in, i just typed in my 12 word phrase.  I never even really looked at the testnet thing because it was just there as default.  Basically it shows top line English then testnet below it.

Then i had shift sent from exchange to the shift wallet as the address is right there when you open the wallet.

I mean you can't even tell there is an option to change testnet to something else because its hard to even notice the arrow where there is dropdown menu.    Its all the way on the far right.  It does say Select a network above testnet but even if i noticed that, i wouldn't even had changed it.

Can someone tell me if i could login to the mainnet and use the 12 word passphrase and the shift would show up there?

So there is no way to recover my shift?  If so, why in the world would it show the default as testnet?  That is ridiculous.

I see that you've already posted this problem in Shift ANN thread. Your best bet would be to wait for anyone to reply or ask on their Discord/Telegram group as they should know more about this.

And please no need to double post, just edit your old post if you need to add some points.

Hi there.  Yes i posted this in few threads because i'm freaked out right now.

Do you or anyone know if you send shift or any altcoin to a wallet that is testnet, you could retrieve them if you have the 12 word passphrase?

From google, i see 1 or 2 threads that few ppl say yes... but some say no...

There's nothing that you can do now OP but to wait for any chances of replied coming from the team itself, it's no longer a problem of bittrex as they already send your balance to your wallet and it's only the team behind shift who give you some enlightenment if how can you possibly recover your coins if there's still a way doing it.

Hi thanks for the reply.  But in general, do you know if coins could be retrieved?  When i created the shift account, im pretty certain it was in testnet as that is the default.  When i opened the shift wallet after it downloaded, i dont remember if it automatically let me create the wallet or i had to click NEW ACCOUNT FIRST.  But if i did click on new account, it obviously was in testnet.

But with other altcoins, do you know what happens in cases like this?  The thing is if your address is a testnet, it was created as a testnet right?

Coins are irretrievable when it was sent to the wrong address, or to an address not compatible to the official network. Testnets are basically 'testing networks' wherein changes are implemented and tested to see any irregularities within the next implementation or to observe what happenes if x implementation is deployed to the network. This seemed to be an error on your end, and perhaps lack of oversight from Shift on making their wallet lead to testnet on default.

this is not necessarily correct. if he  created his wallet himself then he has the private key to it. so the only thing needed is to import that private key into the correct wallet to get his funds back.

right now he has a TestNet wallet so that wallet is only checking the Test "network" and doesn't see anything, if he imports the key into a wallet that is for main net, it will check the main "network" and can see the transaction.

when you say import the key into a wallet that is for main net... do you mean just open shift nano wallet... then change it from testnet wallet to mainnet and then type in my 12 word phrase and enter?

yes i have the 12 word passphrase for it.

I like to add that in order to open the shift nano wallet, you have to type in the 12 word passphrase.  Electrum you type in the password you create.  So basically you need to enter your 12 word seed every single time.  So that is much different than electrum and other wallets.

So you say change it from testnet to mainnet.  Then enter the 12 word seed.  And see if my shift appears?

yes.

p.s. i am not familiar with implementation of SHIFT but usually they copy whatever bitcoin does, in which case there is a possibility that the derivation path can be different. in which case you won't see your funds unless you change the derivation path.

So the problem is on your wallet side since the transaction is now completed on the blockchain not on bittrex anymore if you can recover your passphrase/ or private key open it in web wallet (https://wallet.shiftnrg.org/) Im sure the web wallet is using the mainnet you can check whether your coins are already received it or not.

Yep. Wasn't sure at the start if what wallet OP has, if he had access to the seed or not.

But in general, do you know if coins could be retrieved?  When i created the shift account, im pretty certain it was in testnet as that is the default.
Then it's a case of the wallet having bad user interface. Though you still should've made sure at the start.

yes i have the 12 word passphrase for it.
If you have that option with that wallet(as I don't even know what that coin is), then try it out. Not sure why you didn't try this earlier.
