 Hackers are now using several websites to push their fake bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) giveaway programs, according to a Bleeping Computer report on May 26, 2019.

Per sources close to the matter, hackers are now promoting a fake “Bitcoin Collector” scam promising users $5 to $30 worth of free bitcoins when they run the program.

In reality, the primary aim of the malware, which is disguised as a cryptocurrency giveaway program, is to install ransomware or phishing trojans on the victim’s computer.

Reportedly, the scheme was first discovered by a malware researcher with the moniker, Frost. Specifically, the operation is promoted through sites that promise to reward users with ether and bitcoin when they refer others to visit the platform. They state in their FAQ page that when a person refers 1,000 visitors with their referral link, they’ll earn three ether.

Thanks for post this and let people know what can happen if they are try to get some coins for "free" and people will install that and after they will get hacked and the coins they have will be lost forever.

I don't know if the virus that used to be crowded and made bitcoin become more famous now is back again, but I almost every day get an email about giveaway that finally if opened, there will be a form like google form. then the hackers will start acting to steal and take the gap back

This scam technique has existed since long before cryptocurrencies, I remember there was a virus disguised as a Paypal money generator that worked the same way as this malware. Hackers even created fake videos that they uploaded to Youtube with a link to download the virus. Over time, it's inevitable that all scam schemes are adapted to crypto. I guess sooner or later we will receive an email of a Nigerian prince asking us to send him one bitcoin or something like that.

Greed and not doing proper research is what makes you fall for this, of all the industry, cryptocurrency is the one most targeted by hackers, so it's your assignment to check what type of scam methods do these scammers are doing to steal your coins, education, and updates should be your first concern.

And I think we also need the government guidance and assistance so we also need legalization and centralization because that kind of group will not afraid if their is no law that will punish to this kind of activity.

Hackers and scammers are everywhere and they are very smart. The other day i was surprised to see a telegram channel which was in name of a big exchange and the title was huge giveaway where you send any amount of btc or eth at their address and receive double back and i was shocked to see messages from different accounts most were praising the giveaway and telling how they doubled their btc and eth just to lure innocent people to send their btc and eth too. I was mature enough to know that all this is bot setup and these scammers have set everything up so perfectly so that they can easily steal the money from new people who will happily send them all their money due to greed.

I was formerly a member of a group conducting give away of ETH, how I joined was clumsy to me, until I investigated that I had joined an airdrop which they later renamed after Binance, when I saw some huge give away and testimonies, I knew it was a scam because a fake Vitali once notoriously reigned on twitter with such tactics. I saved a Whatsaap group member from such a mess, he had concluded to send 1ETH, when he ask if we were ready for the risk, I called it a scam, and he was saved from the loss.   People should be-careful of the airdrop they give their email to.

People should be aware that nobody gives something for free in this world, with some exception of course, im pretty sure those people gullible, the fact that they didnt even virus scanned the file means they're also naive.

Well, what did you want. That everything was so simple. Protection against frauds practically does not exist. Soft, podelnye sites. Scammers try to make a profit. Having created such a program, they become millionaires.  Therefore, you should not install it on a computer with cryptocurrency. To avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

Yes, unfortunately there are a lot of frauds today and most of the inexperienced people are being led to it. In my opinion, it’s time to create a body that should deal with this and it is necessary to create software that can protect you from this kind of fraudulent schemes, but unfortunately at the moment there is no such thing so be careful.

I guess the scammer will always use the same trick and when someone doesn't care about anylink and never try ti click it and they will be fine. Three ether for 1k visitor and only stupid person that can be fooled by that stupid hacker, I never try to click any suspicious link or even follow any crap promotion trick like that and so far i still safe.
But newcomers must aware about that.

I stoped paticpate different airdrops long ago and looks that was a great idea) IMHO for airdrops and bounties you need separate your pc or smartphone to avoid such problems. All private keys must be safe in another place)

Newbies and investors should start believing that nothing in crypto world is for free ,if you aren't working for it then its a scam ,don't fall victim for luring offers

Thank you so much for the post, we need to spread this all over the crypto sphere so that all this newbies that keep falling into the hands of scammers will stop immediately, I always laugh when I see people fall for this kind of scam, telling you to click on a link and you will be given some amount of money, for basically doing nothing, but one thing they fail to know is that there is no free money anywhere, anything a person does is always for a reason, once we begin to have this understanding, we would not fall into scam.

This is a good sign. If scammers are active, then they believe that the hype is growing. And in this they can be trusted ;D.

We should all unite against hackers and scammers for it will help make the crypto market stronger, reliable and permanent. We all know that the crypto market is wearing backlash just because of scammers and hackers. In a case of this bounty programme being run by hackers, we should discourage them by not participating in it, and we should expose them to the world.

Thanks for the information provided, actually most of the time is people greedy, all of them want the "free" cryptocurrency, don't become a victims anymore because there's no such thing as a free lunch, it is impossible to get something for nothing, anyway computer security is important than nothing.

If you are clicking a link found from random internet page or through any groups then think twice that it is secured or fake or better to have security which can restrict those ransomware links from our device.

This is very dangerous if we enter the site. So now for those of you who like to participate in airdro in particular, maybe don't ever install on the device you are using. This is very useful information and in the future we may have to be careful to do things that can make a loss to ourselves.

Although I participate in bounties, I never install something on my computer, because it is too risky. I suggest to run virtual machine in case you need something to be installed

This can bring awareness not to be victimized by this kinds of trick, hackers will do everything in order to penetrate with your system, once being caught unguarded you won't be able to overcome those hackers but just to look at your assets being sucked or being compromise.

Self awareness is very important, keep yourself being updated to assure  protecting your investment.

This is inevitable and it can happen at any time especially when BTC currently increase right this moment.
For me, I'm already activate 2FA while using online wallet or when using offline wallet, I try to scan my PC first and update into newest version.
I'm also not quick interest / trust any giveaways nowadays actually so I can prevent hacking happening

There are always dangers on things that are too good to be true, and this is one of the proof, people should be careful on doubler hyip and ponzi scheme that is now targetting the cryptocurrency community, especially these newbies that are very easy to fall, without doing any research if it is legal or not.

I hope that it would help people to know that they need to stay away from suspicious links that they get from the internet because not all links can give what they search. But the links seems strange for me and I don't click the links as many of us are aware of the links. I don't want to get scam by clicking the strange links because I already got the bad experience in the past.

Not only bitcoin and ethereum, but some airdrop also requires us to download the wallet to get their coin.
So be careful and make sure your antivirus always active.
