Title: What is the timeline for daily usage of bitcoin?
Post by: franklin2058 on May 31, 2019, 05:34:43 PM
What is happening on Lighting Network? Is it a feasible solution for daily usage? There seems very little news.

You can experiment it yourself using one of these wallets: Bluewallet (https://bluewallet.io/), Eclair  (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.acinq.eclair.wallet.mainnet2&hl=en)or Zap  (https://zap.jackmallers.com/)and here is a list of the services using LN (https://lightningnetworkstores.com/).

It's supposed to be one of the solutions that will bring BTC to the next level, however, It's far from being finished.

There seems very little news.
That's because they're probably focused on actually building software, rather than unnecessarily hyping things up like most projects do.

Anyway, you can follow Lightning Labs[1] and other lightning wallets on Twitter if you want to be updated.

Correct, it is best for projects to be silent and focusing in updating and upgrading than making hype. It is useless making news and updates if it is nothing major. The links above might help you to get any news from lightning network.

They're focusing on the development and improvement of LN.
As for me, if they're silent, it doesn't mean that they're inactive.
Let's just wait for more updates from them in the future.
What important is they're providing smooth services that would satisfy more users.

Even right now, there are already many good developments coming from Lightning Network. Now, having said that, I would rather have people who are hard at work for the good of bitcoin than with people who are only good at hyping and commanding the attention of the media and the people. The tasks at hand are not that easy and certainly those can be taking a lot of time so we have to extend our understanding and patience. Eventually we can see the fruits of their labors soon.

There are a few wallets available that you can try the LN and see how it works and even though many people thought this is all, there is lots of work to be done until you will be able to use LN at it's full capacity. It's not working bad right now but there are several issues that need to be solved and that's exactly why they don't promote it that much now. It's obviously better to work on it until they can release the best version possible and only after that start promoting it.

we won't know if it's the solution to make cryptocurrency feasible for daily use until the development is finished
although it has positive results and there are people who are actually using it there are people who are against it
and think it is a bad idea.

Right, I don't think there is a need to worry about lightning networks that are not reported, the important thing is we can still enjoy it for now. It may be that the developers are developing new things and will be a surprise to users.
So we are waiting for the latest version to be released later, as soon as they will release it, so be patient. Or you can contact via their email contact@lightning.network

Even if the lighting network is able to take Bitcoin to Visa's level of TPS it still won't be enough to make bitcoin a daily payment option for most people. The complexity of using bitcoin would still be there, the issues with withdrawing bitcoin will still be there, the volatility will still be there, there are a ton of problems for bitcoin when it comes to being a normal currency. I personally don't think it is and I believe we should stop focusing on it as such, look at it like gold. This is still a huge improvement though.

I tried some sites listed on https://lightningnetworkstores.com/ and I was able to make lighting in/out payment smoothly with my android phone and "LN bitcoin" app.
In my experience lighting network IS actually working, the only problem is that the coffee maker under my door is not accepting on payments (still. That would be way more convenient than Visa for him)
