Title: difference between different HP server PSUs?
Post by: SIMMORSAL on June 04, 2019, 01:57:05 AM
Hi, I've been thinking about installing two 1200w HP server PSUs on my 8 AORUS RX 570 rig, but there are quite a few different models of it available near me which I've listed below. All of them are 1200w. What are the differences between them, and which do you think is the best for GPU mining? Thanks.

I have used a bunch of different ones slap a breakout board and they all work the same to me. Maybe the efficiency they are rated at?

Thanks for the reply.

On a different topic, do you think my choice of PSUs is good for the 8 RX570s? I got the rig already built with two Cooler Master 750w PSUs, but both the PSUs got fried, so now I'm playing it safe and purchasing some a little bit too powerful PSUs to last me a while. Is my decision sound? And are two 1200w PSUs enough for 8 Aorus RX570 4GB, with one supporting the main, cpu...?

if you burn them up you have really bad voltage settings.

You should not be more then 8x200 = 1600 + 100 = 1700 watts

On an alternate point  this is an altcoin topic so I asked mods to move this.

That would be it. Or they are just listed under one of the three different part numbers they use for the same unit.

An easy way to tell efficiency is the platinum ones have a blue mains socket whereas the black ones are only gold rated or below.

This is a mining hardware subforum and he is asking about mining advice. Why would this go to alt coin section when he is talking about the hardware for his mining setup.

Probably different part numbers is what I am assuming different numbers for different markets.

Then still the two 750 PSUs would be not efficient, but yeah, I need to learn to tweak the voltages.

BTW, I spoke to a HP rep, and he confirmed the differences were in their efficiency rates.

Thanks again.

Keep in mind hp 1200w is the rating for 220v otherwise its 900w @120v.

Why not just buying any evga 1600watts psu (https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=10&family=power+supplies&chipset=1600+watts), that should be more than enough for your 8 cards setup ;)
You can get those from ebay really cheap (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2057872.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xevga+1600.TRS0&_nkw=evga+1600&_sacat=0) , cheaper than those HP psus :) For HP server psus you still need a breakout board and a  PICO PSU (https://www.parallelminer.com/product/180watt-max-24pin-atx-power-module-included-sata-molex-cpu-power-connectors-ditch-your-atx-power-supply-entirely/) to power your motherboard :)
