Title: [2019-06-04] Apple Embraces Bitcoin
Post by: CryptoBry on June 05, 2019, 07:39:58 AM

Apple has finally acknowledged Bitcoin by adding a symbol to its new icon set. It appears the mass adoption movement is gaining momentum at last.

If Apple were an animal in the Bitcoin kingdom it would be a tree-dwelling sloth. Moving at an incomprehensively slow pace to join in the cryptocurrency revolution and opting instead to disrupt the credit card industry with the underwhelming Apple Card.

SO, DOES THIS MEAN APPLE IS ALL-IN ON BITCOIN? Not exactly. Not yet anyway. While its recent patent filing to the SEC eluded briefly to blockchain technology, it was far from a battle cry.

A whole article dedicated to a simple Bitcoin symbol.  ::)

It has nothing to do with Apple embracing Bitcoin. It's called progress. They pick up on anything they think might be of interest to people using their products and include that in their symbol set. They have been adding new symbols for years now, so nothing special.

The only 'good' thing about this is that the mainstream media attention for something so irrelevant makes Bitcoin at least gain some exposure.

Why does the sign look like it was designed by an 8 years old? Couldn't they create something similar to this BTC? Idk, maybe it's only me but this is one of the worst Bitcoin signs I have ever seen.

I agree, a news about badly designed Bitcoin sign added by Apple to its icon set is better than no news at all. In today's world, with so much information around, people must be reminded of something constantly lest they forget of its existence. How many people know that Bitcoin has gained around 100% since March? Not many, I'm sure. But some of them will find that out after reading this news about Apple.

Crypto journalists sometimes look so desperate when they grasp at the straws to find something to report, and when they do this, they tend to exaggerate the news - like how they called this simple addition of a symbol "mass adoption". I know that there are always both good journalists and bad journalists, but crypto journalism seems really immature, which is a sign that crypto itself is also immature still.

Yes, publicity is the king when it comes to marketing anything. No matter how small it might be or how irrelevant, anything that is mentioned by the media can gain some media mileage or exposure and it is for free so nobody is complaining.

I like the design.Apple card was a failure, but apple coin(or apple adopting bitcoin) might be a success. ;D
They just followed the example of their main competitor Samsung with crypto adoption.

Agreed. There can't ever be enough mainstream exposure for Bitcoin, especially when its market has been an exceptional performer this year.

I think media sourches such as CNBC and Bloomberg have done enough coverage of Bitcoin pumping that people are aware of it by now. One must be living under a rock to not know how much Bitcoin has gone up this year.

It might help if Apple when people install the new update are being notified about there being a Bitcoin sign, but I doubt there will be. If you don't point that out to non crypto minded people, how will they know it's there?

Reading the title I thought Apple started to integrate BTC into their system. and started to think, "it's fucking there right now, BTC will jump!"
In fact, it's just to say that Apple adds the symbol.
Ah, so that's the mass adoption? Super :D

BTC symbol will be surely integrated by default on all keyboard types in the future, not in 5 years sure but I mean something like 15 years. We will just need to Alt Gr+BTC    :P

This is just a beginning, and at least they already acknowledge bitcoin but we are too far from mass adoption.
Small news from big company like this is vital since we are still at the beginning of stage of development, soon we shall see more news and bigger news.

My theory is that the news were ignored by most people. The people who have noticed the news about recent surge were the same people who could read about it on cointelegraph, coindesk or other Bitcoin related news sites. There are dozens of news each day on sites like CNBC and Bloomberg that look much more important to most people than the news about Bitcoin price fluctuations.

It might help if Apple when people install the new update are being notified about there being a Bitcoin sign, but I doubt there will be. If you don't point that out to non crypto minded people, how will they know it's there?

Exactly. That's what happening to Bitcoin related news too. If people were somehow notified that there were "very important" news regarding BTC, they would have probably noticed it, but no one ever points that out specifically. I judge by what I hear from people I meet in daily life. Most of them have no idea whether Bitcoin is $1,000 or $15,000, let alone some smaller fluctuations. It is possible that I meet especially uninformed people regarding Bitcoin, but I think they are just regular people like most of the people around the world. Next time you order pizza ask the delivery guy about the price of Bitcoin, or ask your university professor about that. I bet you'll be surprised.

I came here to see if Apple really 'embraces' Bitcoin as the title suggest but damn, I was disappointed.  ;D. Anyhow, it's just a symbol though, even Microsoft has adapted the symbol in their Excel or something.

So maybe Apple don't want to be left out and jump on the bandwagon. But hey, every news that mentions BTC is very welcoming to us, so I guess there's no harm in Apple integrating the BTC symbol.

It has become the new normal here. Fake news left, right and center. Apple decided to allow the Bitcoin symbol and we have a topic named "Apple embraces Bitcoin". From what I have seen, Apple has remained fiercely hostile to Bitcoin from the very beginning. They have refused to allow Bitcoin wallets on iPhones. On the other hand, Samsung have been much more crypto-friendly.

You are right!

We might have been disappointed because it didnt able to meet up our expectations (Apple fully adopted/integrate) but only just putting up a symbol.
It not a n adoption but at least they already show some recognition on its existence. It might be adopted but it would still need some time.

No one benefits from these sort of posts. If you really care about Bitcoin, then please refrain from this type of posts (i.e if your sole intention is not to increase your post-count for the signature campaign). If we want media attention and better acceptability, then we need to work hard in that direction by educating ordinary people about Bitcoin. But these sort of posts will just scare away the new users. They will label Bitcoin as a currency of the frauds.

"Embraces" is a huge overstatement.  They just added an icon.

As far as the Apple Card goes, if they give 3% cash back on Apple purchases, that is a good deal.  Enough to get one just for the extra 0.5%.

That is sort of exaggeration but anyway it's still a good news though. A big company that recognizes bitcoin and adds an icon is one of a great achievements for bitcoin. Who knows if Apple would also add an alternative payment with Apple Pay and that's BTC.

If we want media attention and better acceptability, then we need to work hard in that direction by educating ordinary people about Bitcoin.
It's part of the attention that we want for bitcoin, it's Apple that added a bitcoin symbol not just a start up company.

No, it means nothing, just lots of BTC enthusiasts were complaining about the absence of BTC sign, so they added it and that's it
