Title: [ANN] Ergo: A Resilient Platform for Contractual Money [PoW - Autolykos]
Post by: kushti on June 05, 2019, 09:08:53 AM
Ergo Mainnet Launch happened on July, 1st, 2019 (with no premine proof made of latest block hashes from Bitcoin & Ethereum and latest headlines from The Guardian, Vedomosti and Xinhua).

What are the main points of Ergo?

  • Rigorous research and scientific approach: Ergo is based on original research, published at known peer-reviewed conferences. List of scientific papers is available at https://apograf.io/c/7MEY3, but Ergo is not limited by research and it also implements other novel scientific ideas.
  • Contractual money: a new advanced transactional language built from scratch by team, with a higher-level language for developers called “ErgoScript”. Two tutorials available on website: https://ergoplatform.org/docs/ErgoScript.pdf and https://ergoplatform.org/docs/AdvancedErgoScriptTutorial.pdf. It is more advanced scripting language than Bitcoin while maintaining security and not introducing blockchain bloat problems. Scripting language in itself is non-Turing complete but applications ran on the platform can be made to be Turing complete as demonstrated in this peer reviewed paper https://arxiv.org/pdf/1806.10116v1.pdf.
  • New PoW consensus algorithm Autolykos, which was designed in collaboration with The Research Institute (https://researchinstitute.io/). It is the first ASIC-resistant and pool-resistant consensus algorithm to be deployed (mining pools won’t work in Ergo for sake of Decentralization!). Technical details in this paper: https://docs.ergoplatform.com/ErgoPow.pdf.
  • Trustless Light Clients with Minimal Resource Requirements: Ergo block header supports NiPoPoWs that enable synchronizing network by downloading < 1Mb of data. This is further made possible by the fact Ergo state is authenticated as detailed in this paper from 2017: https://eprint.iacr.org/2016/994.pdf.
  • New Economic Model: Key feature of the new model is miners charge users a fee for any UTXO that remains unmoved in state for 4 years (“storage rent fee”). This accomplishes stable mining revenue to secure network, prevents “state bloat” and enables a short release schedule – Ergo emission fully completes in just 8 years. Details in this paper: https://fc18.ifca.ai/bitcoin/papers/bitcoin18-final18.pdf.
  • Mined from Zero via PoW with no ICO or Pre-mine. It is about a hope to achieve as fair distribution of Ergs as possible to enhance decentralization.
  • Decentralization First: Core commitment of Development team and community. Top item in “Ergo Vision” section of white paper. Many of the above features’ main purpose is to achieve this goal.
  • Resiliency and Survivability: Decentralization First is to accomplish this goal. Ergo should be alive and operational for an indefinite amount of time and Contractual Money contracts on Ergo should be able to survive for at least the length of a person’s life time despite a changing external environment.
  • 2+ Years Full-time Development: Full-time development from scratch for 2+ years starting in 2017. Will launch as mainnet, ready for developers, miners and users to immediately start using Ergo.
  • Other: Ergo offers anyone the ability to issue their own tokens (non-native tokens) on the platform and leverage off its security and decentralization. Advanced on-chain governance is built with miners being able to vote on a number of parameters including simple items like block size – gradual changes only to ensure stability.

what coin algorithm  ???

Autolykos is brand new ASIC- and pool-resistant. In some aspects it is similar to Equihash (used in ZCash) with slightly different problem and parameters. However, a secret is needed in order to mine (w. a zero-knowledge proof of PoW solution knowledge included in a block header), thus Autolykos is pool-resistant. For current GPU implementation, minimum amount of RAM needed is 3GB, however, for efficient mining another 4 GB are needed. Thus Autolykos is good for 8+GB GPUs. Algorithm details could be found in a dedicated paper  https://docs.ergoplatform.com/ErgoPow.pdf .

If everything goes according to plan, the launch of the project should take place on this Monday, July 1

I'm really looking forward to this project and for some reason I have a feeling
that this project, like Bitcoin at the beginning of its journey, or like Aether, in which too few people believed in it at the beginning,
But we now see the success of these coins ... and who believed in them from the very beginning, he was definitely not mistaken ..))

So now I really believe in the success of this unique project and the ERGO coin !!)

Good luck to the team and my support with you guys! ;)

We have enough material for 3.0.5 and even 3.1.0 (a release which will require for re-syncing with a fresh database). In particular, improvements we already have for being included are providing 2x memory footprint reduction and 3x faster sync.

3.0.5 will also introduce a new transaction assembler which tries to avoid creating too big transactions and collecting dust automatically.

And for sure we're working on getting more API methods to expose Ergo features to application developers.

With the improvements done we will start to recommend miners to raise up computational limits few weeks later. For that, a miner just needs to write (an individual) target value into node config (and restart the node). Then the node will automatically vote for raising the limit while it is no more than the target value (by creating blocks with a vote included). If 50+% of miners are voting for raising the limit during the epoch (of 1,024 blocks), the next epoch will start with the limit increased by 1%.

Ergo gateway on WavesDEX is working! And so EFYTs buy-back started! Yesterday 1K testing payment was sent to the gateway, today 10K Ergs passed the gateway. All 11K Ergs were used to buy back EFYTs by creating orders @ 1.000 Ergo/EFYT rate. 11K EFYTs bought back are burnt. All these actions are traceable, Waves account for the Foundation is https://wavesexplorer.com/address/3PK9QAbwufVJQ2YVLdNxgVnAqG4iciw9LYE

Ergo reference client v.3.0.6 is out! https://github.com/ergoplatform/ergo/releases/tag/v3.0.6

Next release would be 3.1.0 probably, with optimized (3x faster in our tests) database layer.

Now we are going to make node friendly to applications. We have some external teams willing to develop tokenization module for commodities, full-fledged wallet (w. support for tokens and contractual applications), ultra-light mobile wallet with atomic swaps, somewhat decentralized pool, oracles. Working closely with them, we will deliver API updates, tutorials, open-source applications. And if you are willing to build applications on top of Ergo (Lightning/Rainbow network, DEXes, mixers, community currencies etc) please let us know! If you are willing to invest in applications on top of Ergo please let us know too!

Ergo Reference Client 3.0.7 released!

https://github.com/ergoplatform/ergo/releases/tag/v3.0.7

Quote
This release is introducing new API methods and bugfixes, and also a new consensus rule for testnet only. Details are  below.

The new /script API path is about providing access to scripting possibilities of the node and ErgoScript compiler.

* /wallet/with_unconfirmed renamed into /wallet/withUnconfirmed
* /wallet/p2s_address and /wallet/p2sh_address API methods are moved into /script/p2sAddress and /script/p2shAddress
* new /script/addressToTree method to get serialized script for a box from address

* Fix for #853 : "when trying to send transaction during the synchronization process, it is possible to achieve negative balance in wallet"
* Fix for #875: improper UI description for "inputsRaw" parameter in transaction generation methods
* Fix for #876: a filter for to prevent double spending of unconfirmed boxes introduced in 3.0.6 also filtered out user-provided boxes

Before mainnet launch difficulty got high in the testnet so now dev team can not generate blocks with our few GPUs. Thus we introduce the following breaking change in consensus for the testnet only.

* weaker difficulty validation rule for testnet: if there's not block for 5 minutes then difficulty for a new block is set to 1

We are doing first small crowdfunding campaign on Ergo blockchain (so with no any website or other third-party collecting funds & doing refunds in case of failure), Please join!

Quote
So I propose to raise 500 Ergs before block 50,000 for developing command-line scripts (in Python) for organizing and participating in crowdfunding campaigns after EIP-1 implementation. Command-line scripts are more suitable than doing requests manually, and also could be used for building graphic interfaces on top of them.

The treasury provides half of the funds, so others need to give other 250 collectively. In case of campaign failure refunds will be got automatically. As collecting pledges is not trivial at the moment, I will lead the project role, so please use the key 9gBSqNT9LH9WjvWbyqEvFirMbYp4nfGHnoWdceKGu45AKiya3Fq (controlled by me).

To give money, please follow “How To Donate” section above with replacing backerPubKey with your public key, and pledge amount with a proper value (please note that it is in nanoErgs, 1 Erg = 1000000000 nanoErgs).

Full description is on the ErgoForum: https://www.ergoforum.org/t/simple-crowdfunding/70

One developer already willing to get the tools done in case of successful crowdfunding.

An update (will do them periodically again until a new road show)

The road show was highly successful. In particular, we're now talking with some Korean and Vietnamese exchanges, there is a small team now starting decentralized pool development, we've got new fans and hundreds of business cards.

HotBit listing announced https://twitter.com/Hotbit_news/status/1179366976046714881 . Listing will take place likely within few days after holidays in China( Oct, 1st - 7th). Within few days after listing we'll have AMA session for HotBit users.

New listings are coming!

External developers are reporting that they're testing pricing oracles and non-interactive coin mixing. With the oracles we can do loan contracts, mutual credit systems and other DeFi (decentralized finance) applications.

3.1.1 is coming with simplified user-friendly interface added.

There's enough new features for 3.1.2 as well, e.g. a new version of language interpreter with much improved performance.

And please note, unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum, where formal verification techniques took years to appear around, in Ergo a crowdfunding contract used in practice has some formally verified properties just within 3 months after launch, see https://www.ergoforum.org/t/simple-crowdfunding/70/19 for details.

So everything is going well, if you want to help us, please join the community, spread the word and hodl!

Post by: kushti on October 11, 2019, 07:39:51 PM
A lot of news already for this week (3.1.1, HotBit listing and AMA, video from Hong Kong etc), but we have more:

* 3.1.2 is ready (in the dedicated branch https://github.com/ergoplatform/ergo/tree/v3.1.2) and under testing
* An oracle posting ERG/USD price is done by "Sininen Taivas": https://github.com/sininen-taivas/ergo-oracle , we are testing it. With the oracle it is possible to develop such applications as LET systems , p2p loans, rainbow channels etc
* First stage of EIP-0001 (application-friendly wallet) implementation is done and under review: https://github.com/ergoplatform/ergo/pull/897
* EIP-0003 (BIP-44 for Ergo) and EIP-0004 (tokens standard) are proposed : https://github.com/ergoplatform/eips/pulls
* Ergo community is on the way to get an implementation of non-interactive mixing scheme done: https://www.ergoforum.org/t/lets-play-with-ergomix/108

And now very important announcement:

* development of a decentralized pool has been started! Please note Ergo does not allow centralized pools, but decentralized pools where miners generate block candidates on their own (which is important for resistance to censorship) and cooperate with the help of blockchain contract are actually possible. Some ideas were discussed on the forum: https://www.ergoforum.org/t/creating-an-ergo-mining-pool/42, and now lead developer of AMD mining software "mhs" started the pool development! So 2-3 months later Ergo will be friendly to small miners (currently you need for 30+ GPUs to see stable income). However, collateral will be needed for decentralized mining contract (better to have 130 Ergs at least, so about 2 block rewards, even if you're a small miner), so better to buy Ergs for cheap and store them to mine later probably!

Test oracle which is writing nanoErg per US cent price from CoinMarketCap into R4 register of a box labeled with the "c402..." singleton token: https://explorer.ergoplatform.com/en/addresses/9fRusAarL1KkrWQVsxSRVYnvWxaAT2A96cKtNn9tvPh5XUyCisr

Details on how to run an oracle will be published on the ErgoForum soon.

With the oracle now financial contracts such as trustless LETS and loan contracts could be developed.

On decentralized pool, currently there's controversy that a single party can control a lot of mining power hiding under many pseudonymous identities. While there are no evidences so far behind this theory, decentralized pools can make significant share of mining power visible but without possible issues of centralized pools (in regards with censorship). The Foundation also welcomes research in probing the Ergo network, finding geo distribution of mining power etc. Such research may be sponsored.

Core developers have enough material for couple of new releases, including support for wallet operations in new UI, updated (more efficient) ErgoTree interpreter, new API methods for applications development, and fixed P2SH addresses. Probably 3.1.3 will be out on Monday (Oct, 21st).

We are looking for external development teams willing to develop a decentralized exchange and a full-fledged (desktop?) wallet (with mixing and 3rd part applications support), please contact the core community members on that.

As a project launched by previous co-founder of smartcontract.com,when do you guys consider to integrate decentralized oracle ChainLink for fully interacting with real world?

I'm not in touch with the guys anymore. First oracle is coming in Ergo, maybe next week. What "decentralized" oracle means btw ?

See it.

Decentralized oracle means many nodes to feed the same data in order to prevent single point error IMO.For Chainlink, there are 20+ nodes now.

What about Ergo oracle?

Currently, there's only one oracle, but the scripts (to create oracle and  update its data) will be open-sourced soon so anyone will be able to run an oracle with no much hassle.

It is possible to do an aggregate oracle, which is taking e.g. data from 8 oracles , removes 2 min and 2 max values (to reduce noise) and then calculates average for medium 4 values. We are discussing such a contract in the community. Also, it is possible to do oracle directories and other contracts to have better (less trusted) oracles. So we are waiting for startups willing to take this space.

ErgoPlatform Update 21.10.2019:

HotBit is now reworking its withdrawal procedure, we're helping them. Withdrawals are currently disabled.

A lot of new talks with exchanges, some announces are coming :)

Also, we're in talks with external teams willing to develop decentralized exchange (DEX), p2p loans and bonds (collaterized with ergs) platform, a platform for tokenization. The decentralized pool is under active development!

3.1.3 is ready and will be released tomorrow or on Wed. It will include  simplified wallet UI (really simple!) and couple of bugfixes.

Thanks! Ergo is here to stay for long time! And the most important thing is to have time on our side. This is true for Ergo because :

* Proof-of-Work
* Supply cap
* Rich functionality of the blockchain core (custom tokens, safer and powerful contracts)
* Focus on survivability in the long-term (storage rent, light fullnodes, safer light modes with no full-node security)
* Possibility of painless system parameters readjustment, also improved soft-forkability
* Precisely defined social contract, treasury to fund development
* Sigma-State language, privacy by choice

However, the beast is very new and we need for some time to tame it. But external teams are already working on applications, exchanges are integrating the coin, the core is getting more polished with time also.

Btw, I think there's potential in developing games on top of Ergo in form of smart contracts!

3.1.4 is postponed a bit, as we want to include more optimizations and features into it. At the same time, good progress is done with 3.2.0. It will have much faster bootstrapping (~3-4x improvement on my laptop with HDD) and also support for external applications (EIP-1 https://github.com/ergoplatform/eips/blob/master/eip-0001.md ).

New Asian tour will take place from Dec, 4th till Dec, 11th and will include events in Shanghai (some private event and one event to be announced), HangZhou (Zhejian university), Beijing (Tsinghua university), and Seoul. Details will be announced in coming days.

Pool (with collaterals and need to run node on miner's side) is mostly ready as reported by its development team, private tests will be started around this weekend. If you are willing to help with a mining rig please write me.

To simplify installing and running the node, new versions will have an installer script, so it will be possible to get working node with a proper config by just running one script (in Linux):

Post by: kushti on December 02, 2019, 10:26:16 PM
Hi everyone, good time for another update  :)

Asian tour postponed till February or March due to cancellation of Proof-of-Value conference (and also our partners in shanghai pulled out of joint meetups, it seems now it is not good time to do events in Shanghai).

Spent some time over the weekend to read about popular PoW coins. I wasn't impressed at all! Some are planning or have done recently hard-forks to change monetary policy, PoW function or even to replace PoW with some other consensus. How long-term investors can trust them? Hardforks could be done only to fix critical security vulnerabilities not to please wishful thinking of devs not done their homework before the launch properly.

Please note that Ergo is for long-term HODLing, thus there's commitment (clearly formulated in the whitepaper) to avoid hardforks.

There's also need to make Ergo more friendly to long-term usage by introducing better tutorials, lighter clients and applications (to make valuable things with the digital gold, such as financial apps, derivative instruments, mixing etc), and that's we're are working on. More details below.

There's also new and good introduction to Ergo, please check and distribute: https://thecryptoassociate.com/what-is-ergo/

Trading
-----------

Our exchange guys are now targeting bigger exchanges, and talks are not going fast for this case. So no concrete news to announce at the moment, but there's progress here.

HODLing
-----------

For helping users running fullnodes, we're going to publish new tutorials in coming days. It is much easier to run a node now that few months ago, but there are no new tutorials on that at the moment. Also, we'll explain soon how to run a lighter node which is not holding UTXO set but still have full-node security guarantees (based on https://eprint.iacr.org/2016/994).

BUIDLing
-------------

With initial applications done in September-October (Ergo Notary, Ergo Crowdfunding CLI, Ergo Oracle) it became obvious that better support for custom tracking rules could help
external applications a lot. Version 3.2.0 implementing EIP-1 (https://github.com/ergoplatform/eips/blob/master/eip-0001.md) is about that. It is conceptually done, it requires just more testing, polishing and documentation.

A tutorial is coming on Ergo AppKit (https://github.com/aslesarenko/ergo-appkit/).

More
-------

3.1.4 version is finalized and merged: https://github.com/ergoplatform/ergo/pull/980 . The release will be done tomorrow.  This version is not big about new functionality per se but is a good preparation for 3.2.0 internally.

Collateralized and semi-decentralized pool is mostly ready, as reported by its devs, private testing is to be started within few days.

Actually the post above from mx is a good update: we have new release, new client library and new tutorials. Much more in progress, in particular, more text & video content is coming, as well as new applications!

Also let me post here the following text here I put into TG group few days ago. It is about long-term value of the Ergo token:

I checked some PoW coins recently. ETH is going to roll out its 8th hardfork, changing difficulty bomb rules for 3rd(or 4th?) time and only ~40% of nodes are ready for the fork. Monero just changed its PoW along with some other things, gosh, I don't really know how many hardforks they've done through. ZCash is also hardforking often, also experienced inflation bug happened in the protocol published in peer-reviewed paper then implemented, audited etc. Some PoW coins are even going to switch to PoS. Ergo is following the Bitcoin path: no hardforks, minimum intervention into protocol. Then you're buying reduced set of assumptions with minimized human intervention, basically that:

    * hash function is collision-resistant
    * DLOG problem is hard (in a certain group)
    * majority of miners do follow the protocol

So you're not buying that Vitalik and friends will do proper decisions all the time or anything like that.
However, Ergo also takes into account past years experience and trying to get maximum out of cheap tools (like sigma protocols which is actually quite old cryptography from 90's relying in the simplest cases on the same DLOG): ring and threshold sigs and other crypto protocols (like the non-interactive mixing scheme), multi-stage contracts in the UTXO model, stateless clients, storage rent etc. So no need to discuss Schnorr sigs, they are already here. No need to discuss blocksize, miners can change it a little bit if majority of them are okay (and users can catch with them anyway with full-node security but maybe without UTXO set in extreme cases). No need to discuss 40 or 80 bytes for OP_RETURN payload, take 400 but pay for them (every four years). So hopefully it will be possible to disconnect from the network for years and then catch up with the current state of it without software update. And with ultra-compact client Ergo can deliver store-of-value even to Kashmir which is disconnected from the Internet for four months currently (https://www.ergoforum.org/t/e-mail-client-for-limited-or-blocked-internet/134).So even for simple HODLing Ergo should be perfect. But Ergo also allows to do contracts on top of the native SoV token and created monetary systems with different properties (if you need for something in addition to SoV, e.g. some stablecoin).

Ergo Mainnet 3.2.0 released

Attention! This version contains breaking changes in database structure, so please remove "state", "history", "wallet/registry" in your data folder (.ergo by default), and do re-sync. If you did not make derived keys, you can delete the whole folder and recover from mnemonic. Please unlock wallet before the height of the first tokens retrieval!

Main changes:

PR #969 , #1011 - LevelDB is used now for storing the state (UTXO set + authenticated AVL+ tree on top of it)
PR #1004 - a fix for light mode with blocksToKeep set (pruning switched on)
Additionally (fixes for minor issues not related to client functionality):

PR #1010 - support for native-image generation in ergo-wallet
PR #997 - from now every new release will be checked for bootstrapping in 3 full-node regimes (w. UTXO set, w/out UTXO set, w/out UTXO set and blockchain pruning)
PR #1014 - improvements and fixes in ergo-installer.sh
PR #1015 - fix for Docker build
PR #1016 - fix for empty gitHeadCommit (minor building issue)

Some guy told recently in the Ergo discord ( https://discord.gg/3M3hjR ), ergopool channel :

"Dear Ergo Community, I would like to announce that the first mining pool for Ergo is coming in the following days. This pool is using collaterals and smart contracts, and it would be almost open-sourced. Technically, we do not have control over what you mine but as an arbiter collect the money and distribute it to the miners. So, the pool is censorship-resistant and somehow decentralized. We hope this step in Ergo mining at the beginning of 2020, mitigates the obstacles of Ergo mining for small/medium miners and spreads the words of Ergo. So please follow this thread for the news."

Summary of dev meeting:

1. Protocol client 3.2.1 ready. Next versions will include NiPoPoWs support ( @gtklocker is working on NiPoPoW verifier), API methods needed for ergopool. 3.3.0 (with applications support) is ready, more tests and documentation is needed.
2. DEX devs are playing with transactions over the testnet, status is available at https://github.com/aslesarenko/ergo-tool/issues/21
3. Mixer from "anon92048" is working, but command-line UI is overly complex. The command-line tool will be published next week probably.
4. Core dev morphic is working on a simplified ErgoTree interpretation along with specification. It makes easier  to make contract interpreters in other languages.
5. @jasondavies is going to work on EIP proposing applications <-> wallets protocol, to give possibility to sign in a wallet a transaction prepared by an application.

Developers are still discussing how to do feature-rich UIs.

Summary of past AMAs:

https://twitter.com/ergoplatformorg/status/1230985345879171072

Smart Money

Ergo is a DeFi and crypto contracts platform that takes a radically different approach to smart contracts than other networks. Ergo enables use cases that would be impossible, risky or expensive with other platforms. Non-custodial and non-interactive DeFi is being done with Sigma protocols https://ergoplatform.org/docs/ErgoScript.pdf, powerful cryptography that allows very flexible and elegant coding of wide-ranging functionality.

Ergo smart contracts are based on a Bitcoin-like but extended UTXO model https://www.ergoforum.org/t/ergo-terminology-a-box-and-a-register/32, where every output is protected by some script. If the scripting language is rich enough, it enables writing of Turing-complete contracts while avoiding ad-hoc solutions for program halting like gas in Ethereum. While having significantly more versatility than Bitcoin script, Ergo script only contains operations, that allow estimation of script complexity before execution, which prevents various DoS attacks. However this instructions set is enough to easily write any possible program. ErgoScript was proven to be Turing complete https://arxiv.org/pdf/1806.10116.pdf

Privacy

Ergo is non a privacy coin, but if Ethereum is called "decentralized world computer", then Ergo is "decentralized world crypto-computer" as it has generic and flexible support for variety of cryptographic protocols to be built on top of it, including off-the-peg use of ring and threshold signatures(e.g. 2-out-of-3 which is preserving zero-knowledge, unlike multisig in Bitcoin: by observing a signature not possible to know these 2 guys who signed (only the ring of 3 is known))– great for privacy applications. As an immediate application, Ergo community members discovered ErgoMix, a next-generation mixer, simple, non-custodial (so no risks for operators and also users to get arrested or have money lost) and non-interactive (so more secure). More schemes will be discovered in future definitely, due to flexbility of Ergo's generic approach. And also Ergo's approach is efficient and secure, sigma-protocols (aka Generalized Schnorr Proofs) are known since 90s, they're efficient and well-studied so secure. We also have a DEX on the way and a small but active and growing community building their own dApps.

Value and Survivability

ERG is working as the transaction fees AND storage fees to miners, providing the same incentive for miners even after emission ends, thanks to own economy model. Next very unique one is a contribution to non-interactive and non-custodial DeFi, years of research were put into improving Bitcoin design here, so we have more advanced and more powerful scripting with privacy in mind, advanced proof-of-work, support for tokens, more advanced fees, soft forking approach, miners can change parameters like block size etc on their own, so it is also self-amendable protocol at the same time built with survivability in mind what is important as for digital commodity and cash guarantees.

Main mission of Ergo is proving that cryptocurrency can`t be regulated with its possibilities. In some scanarios Ergo could be "digital gold with contracts" while Bitcoin is just "digital gold". Maybe people will love Ergo for simplicity and mixing. Maybe it will be a backbone to build community finance when the world economy will collapse. Let's see )

Supply, Treasury and Economy

Ergo is POW cryptocurrency with fixed supply cap, like Bitcoin, 97,739,924 ergs to be issued in 8 years. To fund development, Ergo has in place a Treasury which will receive 4.43% of the Ergs, 4,330,791.5 and is completed in just 2.5 years. There was no premine, genesis state contains proof-of-no-premine. To stabilize mining income after emission is done, Ergo’s short emission schedule is made possible through its new economic model, namely, the storage rent fee component to stabilize minind rewards after emissions is done, so you need to pay for UTXOs which stay in the system but not touched for few years. We have modelling done for this new kind of economy, space-scarce economy, showing that this model could be sustainable and improved soft-forkability to avoid hard forks. Other benefits from having the storage rent fee include prevention of “state bloat”, building of an economy around state (users must pay to keep unspent boxes in miners’ memory for the long‐term) and a gradual return of any lost coins back into circulation https://fc18.ifca.ai/bitcoin/papers/bitcoin18-final18.pdf

Security

Initial idea was to combine most prominent ideas from research papers, but also make a practical and simple system. It was really hard! Ergo was started in 2016 but mainnet was launched on July 1st, 2019. For dapps, working apps with UIs is the most needed part of the puzzle, and we're working on that! For 2021 a community member has this proposal https://www.ergoforum.org/t/universal-dapp-interface-package-standard/153 which could change the dapp industry I believe.
Ergo is based on solid research https://ergoplatform.org/en/documents/ done by the team and not only. But it's not a professor coin disconnected from reality, it is an engineer coin. On other hand, we're using solid methods and very careful about everything. As result we have powerful, secure and generic platform.

Consensus protocol of Ergo — Autolykos — is based on the well-known Proof-of-Work (“PoW”) consensus algorithm. PoW was chosen for several reasons including that PoW protocols are widely studied, have high security guarantees, and are friendly to light clients.

PoW has issues, but they are well-known at least, Ergo devs have few papers on PoW security published. About PoS, even problematics is probably not very clear.

Scalability

Ergo allows people to synchronize with the network by downloading less than a megabyte of data, reducing the process from potentially weeks to minutes and enabling it to take place on mobile devices – all with the same security as current third-party solutions.  In addition, Ergo uses authenticated state and for any transaction included, a client may download a proof of its correctness. Thus, regardless of the blockchain size, a regular user with a smart-phone can join the network and start using Ergo with the same security guarantees as a full node. We also have support for ultra-efficient SPV clients via NiPoPoW tech https://nipopows.com Ergo additionally is a self-amendable protocol that allows it to absorb new ideas and improve itself in a decentralized manner.

For interoperability, we have some space left in the protocol to fill in 2021. For volatility, we already have some stablecoin contracts , now apllications are needed. Please note that token mechanics in Ergo makes stablecoins not contradicting with the native token! Native token always has utility, it is being used to pay for storage rent!

Community and Roadmap

Core team has some minimum plan, but it seems, more will be delivered, as external teams and contributors are also working. Minimalistic roadmap for 2020 (https://ergoplatform.org/en/blog/2020_02_02/) including crowdfunding tool (we already done some campaigns), non-interactive and non-custodial mixing tool and also decentralized exchange. But from what we know from contributors we can announce more in coming months! And then in 2021 we'll focus on non-custodial DeFi, new funding mechanisms for projects (as IEOs will probably die by then) etc. Our core team is getting bigger and more decentralized over time, and that's the key for success I guess. Fund is providing grants, so please come to build the ecosystem and apply for a grant! https://ergoplatform.org/en/foundation/ Also this is community-based project, so no ICO- or VC-funding related issues. Ergo's focus is on the long-term!

There's no plan to generate revenue for the Ergo Foundation, it will spend Dev Fund on common infrastructure development, and after the DevFund Foundation will switch to other means of funding, such as donations or will just disappear (as Bitcoin Foundation disappeared).

ErgoScript,  language supporting non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs, actually is a small subset of Scala language, which is pretty well known, and now we have tooling to compile a subset of Scala into Ergo contracts (low-level representation called ErgoTree), so now developers can use ordinary IDEs for Scala and use established tools for formal verification, articles on that are coming!

Existing DeFi

The problems with current DeFi solutions are admin keys, centralized UI, control from certain parties over protocols etc. Ergo is focused on non-custodial DeFi. The perfect example is crowdfunding campaign we did: you just create a coin with a certain contract and then project can collect your coin if the crowdfunding contract conditions are met. And you create your coin just with your wallet. You do not send tokens to a smart contract (like in Eth), you just attach certain contract to your tokens https://ergoplatform.org/en/blog/2019_04_10-ico-example/

Another way to improve DeFi is community finance, such as LETS systems, to provide ability to boost economic activity without collaterals. Ergo devs presented some example contracts in regards with that https://ergoplatform.org/en/blog/2019_05_29-exchange/

Comparison?

The big difference with Ergo is that Ergo mainnet with most promises has already been launched. Not like other projects which still need upgrades or countless other changes. Ergo mainnet is already running and any developer or team can build DAPPS on top of Ergo now, not at some promised time in the future. And our core team is getting bigger and more decentralized over time, and that's the key for success I guess.

Ergo is currently listed on Vite, Probit, Tidex, HotBit, Waves.exchange, P2PB2B, GJ.com. More listings are coming.
On Binance at some point we'll be there for sure ) But before that we plan to get on 3-4 smaller exchanges (some are big though, wait for announcements)

Ergo means "Work" in Greek, and also "Therefore" in Latin, both meanings are fine ) Logo is representing Sigma letter from Greek alphabet, an association with sigma-protocols, a class of efficient zero-knowledge protocols Ergo using.

Price is rising too much last few weeks. I did not know it before its parabola and impressive rises appear on exchanges' top gainers.

I saw it on whattomine's table  but never mind to look further. Very regret.

What are latest news, upgrades or partnerships that contribute to the recent growths?

Anyone can share if you know. I am interested in Ergo but will need to make more research and wait for corrections to accumulate this coin.

Much appreciated.

Soooo... do we still need bitcoin?? I mean really... compared to Ergo Bitcoin is like an old Servel refrigerator, at some point it kind of is just taking up space and costing extra money, let the new protocol step in with it's flashy and ergonomic design.

It is time for a real update to decentralization, Bitocoin just ain't the answer... find and read the Ergo manifesto.

Title: ErgoDEX Roadmap Update
Post by: matthew_ergoplatform on December 09, 2021, 07:03:04 AM
Yasha and Ilya from the ErgoDEX team recently did an interview on Adaverse’s Youtube channel. The team talked about the development roadmap of ErgoDEX, interoperability with Cardano and the highly anticipated ErgoDEX token.

Trading and providing liquidity in ErgoDEX are currently active and there is over $500K worth of assets locked. ERG/SigUSD and ERG/SigRSV tradable pairs are available and several developer teams are working on bridges to Ethereum, Solana and other EVM compatible chains. Additionally, there are teams working on the Yoroi dApp connector release.

The Yoroi dApp connector was already in use on ErgoDEX with the Yoroi Nightly but now the update will be integrated into the alpha release. ERG integration with Ledger will also enable utilization of ErgoDEX via Yoroi with Ledger hardware wallets.

Announced today, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) has approved Ergo Foundation Ltd as a corporate entity in Singapore. With this news, the Ergo Foundation establishes a clear pathway towards forming new official partnerships and listings on Tier 1 exchanges.

The Ergo Foundation has been working towards incorporation during this last year as a necessary step in legitimizing the ongoing work of the foundation and treasury. There are several official partnerships already in development and the establishment of the company creates a vehicle for the formalization of these collaborations.

As an incorporated entity, Ergo Foundation Ltd can formally pursue the legal opinions necessary for Tier 1 exchange listings. Coupled with the recent engagement of Kairon Labs as a market maker for ERG, Ergo is positioning itself to be increasingly active in the cryptocurrency industry going forward.

About Ergo
Ergo is the inevitable next step in the evolution of Proof of Work blockchain technology, designed for creating and implementing powerful, efficient, and highly secure financial contracts. It utilizes the best aspects of Bitcoin and Ethereum by using Bitcoin’s UTXO model while implementing the smart contract functionality of Ethereum.

Ergo’s innovation provides an enhanced crypto-economy, aimed at providing social and financial goods for those who value privacy, technical reliability, and investment opportunities. The products Ergo creates position it as a leader in addressing the issues of poverty and accessibility in regions where there is limited or no access to modern financial products and services.

About the Ergo Foundation
The Ergo Foundation oversees the business aspects of the Ergo Platform. The Foundation consists of several board members who are tasked with ensuring that the projects built honor and uphold the initial inspirations for the creation of Ergo. They are responsible for the Ergo Treasury as well as the disbursement of funds to further develop the Ergo Ecosystem. For further information, please see the Ergo Foundation webpage.

ErgoPad: Ergo’s First IDO Platform

ErgoPad will be the first Launchpad on Ergo to host initial decentralized token offerings (IDOs). This type of dApp aims to kick start the development of various projects and token auctions on the blockchain, thereby allowing developers to raise capital.

Readers may recognize the term launchpad from some centralized exchanges (such as Binance, FTX, etc.), however there are also decentralized versions of launchpads. For example, MISO is currently a decentralized launchpad operating on Ethereum.

Why incorporate in communist China and be subject to rule by law regime of the Chinese Communist Party?

Ergo foundation is seeking acquaintance with powerful able-bodied entities able to set it on the right path in terms of fundraising and r&d. We are keen on seeking entrance to the domain of big money. Legal papers need to be prepped for that purpose otherwise nobody will give the foundation the green light to find exposure to profound investors in the upper layer of the chinese venture capitalist framework. Ergo they establish themselves as a corporate entity in many asian countries with a primal goal to outsource funding from there.
