Title: Seed words
Post by: gd on June 06, 2019, 07:53:16 AM
Hi, I have Electrum 3.2.3. running on Mac OS.
Where can find the seed words? (I shuffled different paper copies and want to keep the right one).
Thank you in advance

You are using an outdated version of Electrum. You will not be able to connect to Electrum servers with version 3.2.3. The newest version is 3.3.6. Download it from the official site and verify the signatures before using it.

The seeds words are presented to you when you create the wallet. They are not saved in your Electrum app.
I am not sure what you mean with 'I shuffled different paper copies'.

Do you have any bitcoins in the wallet that you don't have the seed for?
If not I suggest you create a new one, take note of your seed, store it in a safe place and start over.

I'm using the Windows version but I don't think it matters. You should be able to access it by going to Wallet => Seed  (https://i.imgur.com/nFtjhn2.png)where you have to type your password first in order to see it.

Yes... they are. They are stored in the wallet file if you are using an Electrum seed mnemonic. However, if you imported a BIP39 seed mnemonic, it does NOT store the seed words... only the master private key. You can even open your wallet file and see them using a text editor if your wallet does not have a password and is not encrypted.

But as suggested by OmegaStarScream... the easiest option is: "Wallet -> Seed" from the menus

I assume the OP has several different seeds written on different pieces of paper and has mixed them up... and now no longer knows which is their actual seed. ::)

Thank you all for the immediate and useful feedback.
I updated the app.
The wallet was indeed created by sweeping a previous Bip39 seed mnemonic; this explains why none of my papers notes seems to be the correct one.
As i do not feel comfortable to remain in this situation I plan to transfer the money to a different new wallet.
Thanks again

You can begin a new wallet via file > new/restore, enter a unique filename and click next.
