Bitcoin evangelist John McAfee has threatened to “bury” the US government if they keep harassing him over unpaid taxes, promising to leak a huge trove of files proving corruption throughout Washington and its allies.

“I’ve collected files on corruption in governments. For the first time, I’m naming names and specifics,” McAfee warned in a string of tweets stretching back to Sunday. Vowing to release over 31 terabytes of “incriminating data” to the press if arrested or otherwise “disappeared,” he posted the names of a “corrupt CIA agent and two Bahamian officials” along with claims they’d taken bribes and been involved with drug trafficking, apparently to show he was not bluffing.

Do we have a source other than McAfee himself that he is being "harassed"? As with most things everything to do with McAfee, I have serious doubts as to the validity of his claims. I wouldn't be surprised if he is making this story up to gain some attention for himself and his recently launched projects.

Was that like when he "promised" revenge after he was poisoned? Or when he "promised" his wallet was unhackable, and then it was repeatedly hacked? Or when he "promised" he would eat his own dick? Or when he "promised" to reveal the real Satoshi? Everything he says is only for attention. Ignore him.

I doubt he will do any such things as mentioned in his series of tweets because we have seen him doing such publicity stunts earlier as well! But later he always resorts back stating his lawyer asked him not to do such things as it might adversely effect his reputation!

But, "IF" he does any of such things against Washington, he will be disappeared from the world real soon! No matter how powerful he is! We all know what happens to Edward Snowden!

Actually, McAfee has been on my blacklist and i just want to say this that; we shouldn't underestimate the strength of McAfee threat to the United government becasue his life is Meaningless to him and he can do anything just to stop ridicules from the government. But one thing is certain, he who send a thief to steal has lesser power when he's (the thief) still live.

Why don't he just release it if he has something incriminating against them why wait till they strike him first this would seem like a blackmail.
We should not connect the man as a bitcoin evangelist this would involve bitcoin in any drama he is involved

It will most probably be worse for him if he prematurely exposed these corrupt government officials, assuming he really has these "files". Imagine speaking against Pablo Escobar when he was still in power. The situation would probably be similar assuming these corrupt government officials will go full force on him.

At the same time, it may also be because it's just all talk.

It is how things are because of his previous statements it is really hard to know when it is a serious or just another publicity stunt to gain attention.
This feels like the story of the boy who cried wolf by Aesops ABC  :) .

To be fair, John McAfee hasn't been in control of the McAfee antivirus since forever pretty much. In fact, it's so bad that the founder himself(John McAfee) is trashing on the software he once owned.

John Mcafee constantly lies and seeks attention but I'll admit that it is entertaining to follow him on Twitter.  Overall, I still think he has done more good than harm to crypto as he encourages more new users to buy in.

Why wouldn't he just pay his taxes and get on with his already-depraved, sordid life? The dude's a legend still, but honestly that doesn't exempt him from paying his taxes like a god or something. Some people actually had it worse than him, so I don't get why he constantly tries to make a scene (not that I'm supporting the actions of the feds, lol.) Anyhow, the scene has somewhat became quiet for the past few months or so that it's actually okay for him to release those documents if there really are documents to be released. I'm sure this might not get that much controversy unlike the Mueller report of contemporary times but hey, if it provokes more drama then so be it!

Nothing good comes out of blackmailing a government. If he really has anything that can bury the government, he should just release it. He can't use it as leverage because the government won't let anyone blackmail them. Assuming the files he said are real.

He have been earning a lot so why couldn't he pay those taxes?
This is just funny just because you got asked to pay for those unpaid taxes you would state something serious like this?

He won't either he is bluffing or not, his statement is for his own security.  Probably he is missing sleep at night thinking of the possibilities.  Anyway, what caught my interest is "if" Mcaffee is saying the truth, what would be the next story if the trigger of the exposition happens.

McAfee is a positive hope person who have a big expectation over bitcoin as well with the cryptocurrencies available. Now some unwanted statements from him have kept him hidden from the outer world. Also, there will be some reasons or real datas with him without which one will never reveal such a statement against a country that is powerful in the total world countries.

John McAfee is only trying to get more weight in crypto space. Almost every project he involved in is an unknown shit that was only made to gather money from humble users. Also considering that he is one of the main BCH advertisers I may guess that he have something to hide.

He is only interested in money that he gets for shilling garbage projects in his twitter.

He really is that good if he really has those files, but knowing Mcafee he is good in making stories like the Satoshi theory that he has, and of course, he will soon eat his dick and his own coin that he will soon launch, makes us wonder if this latest one is really true, we might as well call him the guy that cried wolf with these so many fakes stories.

I think he will never do that and any statement from him wouldn't be a big deal for the use government.
He has done too much drama so I guess it will never be a huge controversy this time. He has been making fake news and stories these days and it's deceiving and annoying at the same time for most people.

Despite all the controversies, we can't deny the fact the Mcafee has done a lot of good things for crypto. However, it couldn't cover up all his lies. He ruined his own reputation by spreading fake information. He has been using harsh words and it's now hard to believe any statement or documentaries from him anymore.

Who gave him the title of "bitcoin evangelist"? He himself? This guy was shilling shitcoins, including bcash, like crazy, this alone is enough to disqualify anyone as bitcoin evangelist.
And the fact that he fears getting arrested is not new or shocking, he was wanted for murder, he got arrested many times before on different charges, and just recently he and his presidential campaign team were charged for tax-related crimes. I have a feeling that he knows he might get arrested soon, and he wants to paint it as politically motivated, to weasel his way out.

How can you doubt such a man? I remember an interview showing the presenter around his yard. He said Mexican cartels were watching him. He knew this because Mexican cartels eat cream cheese and they were leaving cheese wrappers all over his property.

To be fair, "evangelist" shouldn't be a sort of authoritative title in the first place. Evangelist pretty much means someone sort of campaigning/advertising something(or "converting" people, when talking about religion), which he is, regardless if he is preaching Bitcoin in a good or bad way.

trolling levels of McAfee are growing every day and each time he opens his mouth a new nonsense comes out of it. and all the time he is just trying to attract attention to himself. so the term "attention whore" that has been used for him is a very suitable term really.
this is exactly like how he was supposed to "reveal" the real Satoshi Nakamoto not so long ago which is now almost forgotten...
