More like 23 Democrats have confirmed they are going to run for presidency.

Who do you think will have the best chance against Trump?

Is Trump easy to beat and he only won because Hillary was a terrible opponent or did he really had a very silent base with which he would have beaten any other democrat candidate?

Democracy continues to be undermined across the world. Unfettered capitalism produces ever-greater inequality, leading to huge sections of the population feeling disenfranchised and disempowered. People want someone to blame, and right-wing populists are enjoying huge success by appealing to people's baser prejudices. They create some arbitrary scapegoat, often 'foreigners', and then instead of coherent policy they employ effective soundbites (and increasingly social media) to rail against this imagined opposition. It is being replicated across the western world. Where the US leads, others follow.

I hope Trump doesn't win, but I have a horrible suspicion that he will.

Trump will easily win four more years as those who’re contesting against him are not strong candidates, and they’ll keep on fighting within themselves which will give further advantage to Trump. Hillary wasn’t a terrible opponent, but she lacked support within her own party which led to her downfall. If you wish to see his fan base then just type trump fans on Facebook, you’ll see he has millions of fans in various groups which are supporting him.

Short of some catastrophic economic collapse or WW3, there is no one who even has a chance of beating Donald Trump. Even if these things happen I still think he has a good shot.

I can confirm, the people will not win, but a person, and that person will do things they said they would not do, and the things they said they would do they won`t. That person will do what they want to do, when everyone could just vote on issues rather than voting someone to vote for them.

Obama: I will remove the troops.

There's very little chance that any of the Democrats will beat Trump. He has his base sown up. The Never Trumpers on the Republican side see that business is going well. The economy hasn't tanked and will hold their nose and vote for him. This means that he can win with the same coalition. The Rust Belt Dems see that Trump has kept his promises and if the Dems go farther left than Biden, and if they abandon the Pro-Life Dems as it looks like -  then Ohio will turn Red. It won't be a toss-up. And Pennsylvania and Michigan would turn from lean Blue to lean Red.

I think Trump has recaptured Virginia (it was a close loss) and toss in the troubles the Virginia Dems have I put that state in the Trump column.

That means Trump needs to win only one of Michigan, Pennsylvania or Florida.

It's a Trump win - and big - if it's any body but Biden. And even with Biden it will be a Trump win.

Not only that but the Republicans win back the House and hold the Senate.

I think Trump. I am not seeing anyone that is putting any formidable opposition to him.

American always give a second chance to their seating president and it is clear that Trump will win the next election. I do not believe in the media propagation about the current administration and to me Trump has really done well and he deserves a second chance to complete what he has started.

Trump is so old. Will he even be allowed to participate?

I am not even American and I can see this is the most logical choice. Do not vote for the "I like math guy" Andrew Yang he will escalate the internal bleeding more by giving everyone 1k. Do not vote for Trump he will use over 100million on golf trips and hamburderdgs. Do not vote for Hillary unless you would like to die in the next 4 years.

The thing is, the elections are 100% rigged LOL! I want Trump to win, but I am afraid that his chances are lower than what he had in 2016. Here are some of my concerns:

1. The rust-belt (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin.etc) have shown a clear pro-Democrat tilt during the recent senatorial elections. GOP is very weak in this region now.

2. States such as Arizona and Nevada have become pro-Democrat, due to the rising Hispanic population. Even Texas is not 100% safe territory for GOP.

3. Amendment 4 has restored voting rights for 1.4 million felons in Florida. As we all know, this is a very loyal Democratic voting bloc. And Florida elections have been always tight, with the margins usually lower than 100,000. Some 1.4 million votes can make a lot of difference.

4. Democrats are pushing forward with their plans to register as many new voters as possible. Regardless of the race, younger voters have a preference for the Dems.

5. The GOP voters are not that fired up, unlike the case in 2016. Back in 2016, many of them were fed up with Obama's 8 year presidency and were determined to get a Republican elected as the president.

6. This time I have a feeling that the Democrats will not nominate someone who is simply not electable, as they did in 2016.

The swing States that helped trump win aren't in the favor of him, atleast that's what is observed recently.

I also feel that many took the 2016 elections granted for the dems as they knew it was a cake walk for Hillary and didn't even bother to vote due to laziness...

The Dems will avoid the mistakes they did in 2016. Hillary was indeed a very overconfident candidate. Her entire campaign was full of only anti-trump talks. And she even posted "happy birthday to the future president" to wish herself happy birthday prior to election. So, if another Hillary is avoided to win nomination, Dems have a good chance.

Kind of obvious why trump won. If the Dems avoid the mistakes of 2016, I wouldn't doubt that trump will get a tough fight or even lose.

Outside of the youth vote, anti-socialist sentiment in the US is too strong for a Sanders win, in my opinion. Biden has more of a chance and his association with the Obama administration will benefit his campaign, but he is also a weaker candidate compared to Obama. Incumbent presidents tend to have an advantage when it comes to winning elections so I think a Trump win is the most likely outcome.

Also with Sanders being 78, Biden being 77, Trump being 73, and Warren being 70 next year, this will probably be the most elderly US presidential election by far.

You can't just base the whole logic on previous elections because Sanders on the ballot would change the map completely.  The people turned off by socialism are already voting for Trump and will ultimately label any democrat even biden as a socialist.  Obama was a muslim socialist in their eyes.   You have to remember that most of the left don't vote and haen't voted for a long time because no one in contention in our lifetime has been anywhere near the left. Sanders is the only one who combines populism with an economic approach that appeals to everyday people.  He can do the same thing as Trump but capitalism is the scapegoat instead of mexicans.  

That is actually the only way they can take back the senate.  2008 Obama brought out new voters like no other and changed the map.  Biden is just as bad as Trump.  He's also promising to cure cancer if you elect him because he knows no one is excited or motivated to replace Trump with a dem Trump.

If it were a bet, I would put my money on Bernie. He may be old but he's really got his shit together, enough so to motivate the youngest generation of voters. There's no doubt in my mind that if Bernie would have been the democratic nominee last time around, he would be president right now.

The debates will really help sort things out. If Bernie shines there and brings a message that really resonated with people as he did last time, he's gonna squash Trump. The only reason Trump won is because there was such a bad reaction to Hillary being the dem candidate. She turned off a lot of dem voters and inspired a lot of repubs who otherwise might have sat on the couch to go out and vote against her.

Bernie will be helped by a contingency of voters coming out of the woodwork who want to ensure that we won't get Trump again. I doubt Biden fans would sit the election out if Bernie became the nominee, however, if Biden is the nominee a lot of Bernie fans will probably sit it out. Biden is too crusty and establishment-entrenched. He's a turnoff to anybody who is inspired by the thought of "real change".

As we can see with Obama and now Trump, there is no "real change," only the illusion of change. But Biden doesn't even carry the illusion.

Bonus points if he picks Tulsi Gabbard as his running mate. Think about it:

- first Jewish president
- first female vice president

That combo has to inspire a lot of people. The people who find it uninspiring would probably vote Republican anyway.

I think Trump might win but if he does, it's likely due to the backlash from the very obvious attempt by Silicon Valley elites and the MSM to stomp out conservatives on social media. People are stupid, they'd notice. Might be enough to push people on the center towards the right.

Yes, people who call Obama and Biden socialists will always vote Republican. However, centrists in swing states who would vote for a moderate democrat like Clinton or Obama might instead refuse to vote at all if Sanders was the only option.


Left-wing populism might work in South America and Europe but I doubt it would work in the States.

The American white working class who probably stand to benefit most from socialist and social democratic policies is also well known for voting against their interests. They are the kind of people who drink beer, shoot guns, and go to church on Sundays. As Trump shows, it's easy to convince them that illegal immigrants taking their jobs are the source of their problems. Convincing them that the capitalist class structure is what failed them is going to be a much harder sell.

I agree Nutildah that Bernie Sanders and Tulsi  Gabbard would be a dream team, and would have the best shot for the democrats to win the election. Bernie's age doesn't detract from his appeal and in fact might help. He has a lot of energy and he's crystal clear about what he stands for. I think if anybody can reach the republican working class, he can. He's so passionate about the working class and gets people fired up with some hope and enthusiasm.

Tulsi would add the perfect touch to the dem. ticket. She' a intelligent, bright, attractive, and comes across relaxed and graceful. She doesn't appear to have any of that excessive confrontational snarkiness,  so I don't think she would be ridiculed as Palin was.  

And she hasn't been around long enough to be as polarizing, and hated as Hilary was. Plus Amerca can more likely handle a female Vice President, first.. Baby steps.

Also Tulsi, with a Samoan/European, raised in Samoa, a practicing Hindu, and an Iraq war veteran, to boot, is huge plus for a diverse cross-section of voters. Hindus and Vets that are Trump supporters might be persuaded to switch and support her. So I agree this would be an excellent democratic ticket. And I will be excited and have hope for a victory.

I'm not sure the Dems would be that daring. But I Hope so! If they wake up and smell the coffee instead of trying to play it too safe with Biden, or one of the other lackluster candidate. I don't have anything against them but I don't think they would win against Trump either.

So, your argument about class interest and Trump's appeal falls flat.  Trump has taken a 1980s Democrat position of being against globalization; that companies should not be rewarded for finding the cheapest place for labor, with the most relaxed labor laws etc... Right now the tax code enables companies to leave and set up shop elsewhere. For the first time since NAFTA and the explosion of globalism in the 1990s we're seeing a president that is in favor of the US working man.

I don't live in the US so it's not easy to gauge but I think Trump have a greater chance. The Dems can't see to get their house together.

The push to censor social media could also have an effect. Sure they might be able to better control the narrative but these content creators had backup channels and people will find out whenever they had a video taken down.

It's starting to look like a witch hunt and that could push even centrists towards the right side.

Right now the governors of the States meet via communications on a regular basis. They discuss and implement all kinds of things based on their communications.

It's much easier for the people of the States to control their governors than it is for any of them to control the president. In fact, the media spotlight focus is the thing that keeps the people focused on the Federal Government, so that they ignore a lot that goes on in their State.

If the Federal Government were gone (Kokesh platform), people would focus on their State governor more. Most things would become way more advantageous for the people because of the greater control they have over their governors.

IIRC Fox News also showed Hillary beating Trump through much of the election, so make of it what you will. The only poll that was consistently correct in forecasting the election results was one done by USC and the L.A. Times, interestingly.

Considering how awful the democrats candidates are in their majority and that the stupid US system is basically a 1v1 Rep vs Dem I don't see how Trump could lose.

If Trump keeps nixing attacks on Iran and sending John Bolton to Outer Mongolia when he meets with potential bombing targets he could easily lose what's left of the 2016 election.

I agree with you.
Democrats have to many candidates for the presidential election, around 20 if I remember well.
I think they will be exhausting each other in an intra-party war while Trump will watch it quietly and enjoy it.
They will get tired from pre election conflicts and I'm not sure how much energy and power they will have left to fight with Trump, specially ''sleepy'' Joe :)

 

Williamson is wise and definitely has a lot to offer. I hope she gets more exposure,  and what ever happens I hope she stays in politics. I was thinking she'd make a great secretary of state, or another member of the cabinet...For instances, she would make a great Sectrtary of Education. She has a real grip and clarity of the real history of the U.S. and how it impacts us.

Gabbard is a favorite, I think she will go far. But also every day, Harris is looking very insightful. When said she wants to concentrate on the things that keep us up at night with worry, like our health, our families health, or how as are going make ends meet, and have enough to retire on, so we are not below the poverty line, she hit the nail on the head.
So for me Gabbard Harris, Williamson, and also I am keeping an eye on Michael Bennet. He is sounding really promising.

Biden, should step down. He's is a good guy, but needs to retire...into the background and be a consultant, if anybody needs one.

I do have to hand it to the Dems, to front a groupthinked club of candidates who succeed in making Trump look like the voice of sanity and reason.
