Title: How to properly report ban evasion ?
Post by: bob123 on June 19, 2019, 07:21:48 AM
Since more and more people are getting banned due to plagiarism currently and quite a few of them just create a new account to further participate / spam this forum... what is the correct way to report ban evasion ?

Simply report a post of them with 'ban evasion' in the comment field ?
Post into a 'Ban Evasion' thread (e.g. [Report] Ban Evasion [Requesting Admin/mod to check those and ban] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5094661.20)) ?

What is the consensus here? What is the most efficient way which creates the least workload for the mods ?

You can report one of their posts and include in the report message any evidence you have they are evading their ban. You can also create a thread complaining about the ban evasion.

While looking at some old threads, I have noticed some have bee allowed to participate under new accounts even if they were banned.

I would appreciate links to those old threads, to know who 'allowed' some to participate in the forum. AFAIK, a permaban is a ban on the user. Some do create accounts but it's done covertly. And they should be reported when spotted.

I would rather post in the ban evasion thread, as you would need to provide evidence or hints linking the account to one that has been banned. This would help the mods make a decision. A simple ban evasion message would not cut it.

<.snip.>

How do you report a reporter in this case @PrimeNumber7 for Ban Evasion. A ban account opened another account for ban appeal, and before then he or she has already made some post before dreaming of ban appeal, hope this is evidential enough for report?

This is probably the best way to report. I just don't think the community or the mods are really focusing on ban evasions. Notice that the thread you mentioned is already six months old but there are only few reports. Some of those reported were not even banned despite some good proof of evasions.

I usually just report one of their posts with something along the lines of:

this user is an alt account of <banned user> (banned user profile link). ban evasion.

I dont really know if the mods pay much attention to the threads, and reporting pretty much guarantees a staff member will take a look at it eventually.

You can't reduce the workload of mods, mods will have to do their check before taking any actions so if someone tries to reduce the steps involved in reporting accounts that evade their bans, the mods will only have more work to check and if they don't find enough proof, of course then the report is gonna be marked bad or unhandled which many people find hard to swallow.
Just elaborate however you can so the mods can understand what you're reporting, with suffice proof in the form of accessible links.

Mods do not have access to IP logs, so this will often be insufficient, and no mod has the time to trawl a user's post history to try to find the evidence. In the comment box you need to include proof of ban evasion. If it is as simple as the user admitting to previously being banned, then link to that post. If it is something more complicated like both using the same bitcoin address/twitter handle/etc., then you may need to create a post in the Ban Evasion or the Known Alts threads, detail your evidence there, and then link to that in the report comment box.

I think ban evaders are the most difficult culprits to spot, you just cannot have sufficient proof to claim such users has been banned previously except of course if such users shoots himself on the foot by unknowingly saying he or she has been banned before, to me that's the only smooth and easy way for such users to be banned(again)
Every other evidence must be put under scrutiny, leaving the mods with a very difficult decision to make, most times they just simply leave it unhandled since IP checks wouldn't come into play.
Really ban evasion rule isn't so much implemented on the forum, wonder why it's still in the rules.

Ban evasion needs clear proof so what can be the best way to report a ban evader:

1.Make a post in Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III (2019 Q2) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2544574.0) with the proof of why they are alt accounts.

2.Then report any of the posts from ban evading poster with the link to the post you made at post at point1.

3.Then check Bpip or mod log after a week to know that evader has been banned or not.

I uh... forgot to include that part in my post.
