Title: Do we really need trading discussion section?
Post by: shield132 on June 20, 2019, 11:47:58 AM
Hello guys, this question just came to my mind because every time I see this section, I see threads like how to keep calm during trading, how not to get angry, how to get much profit and etc. Well, that's ok but what disappoints me are comments. Everyone on this section acts like professional traders. Imagine for example I asked how to get profit with trading? Now answers will come from thousands of users, almost everyone repeating the same: keep calm, analyze charts and etc. So after all, do we really need such section? I think it will be better to stick some threads and that's all or review trading websites in this section.

I used that section a few days ago for asking about a portfolio manager, there was no thread on that on at least the first page so I think things like that are helpful.

Generic questions are fine if they're answered quickly. What you're asking for is more moderation and not deletion. Even if you don't trade (I guess you don't) others will welcome direction...

Every section is ultimately useful regardless if you had encountered the opposite at times that should be expected when a forum has multitude of users.
And activities of spammers can be seen on multiple board
And  also the question you asked(there is an option of searching the internet) is one that give rise to numerous spam reply maybe we should first start making the post attractive to enable educative interaction

The problem with removing sections of the board is that all the posts currently made there would just end up being made in other parts of the forum where they would be considered off-topic.  Even if you don't personally see the benefit of a particular subforum, you would probably notice the deterioration of all the other boards, effectively turning into dumping grounds, if Trading Discussion wasn't there anymore.

We do need such section and if you take time to skimmed through those spam you speak off, you might actually encountered some quality conversation that might be useful. The average users of that board don't engage in advance trading, all they do (if they actually trade) is buy hold and sell therefore you shouldn't expect much from them when you do ask such questions. The title and content of your topic attracts the caliber of response you get. e.g the title you used in your example only attract spam and nothing more.  So to encourage more quality discussion on the board, the title and content of started threads needs to improve too.

Personally, I think the trading discussion board should be a board more about sharing of real life experience gotten from actually trading so others can learn from your experiences instead of made-up advices without actually experience.

This is in itself a generic question, more so why it gets that sort of answers.
Real/experienced traders come up with more technical questions, discussions and advice on that board and it keeps spammers away since they don't know shit about it.
But asking how to make profits is a lazy question really.

Forum meant for discussions if you find most of them as spams then you can create one if you are experienced and make it as self moderated. The same amount of spams available at all the sections but sometime it can be useful too based on what we are looking for.

The short answer is; Yes, bitcointalk needs a trading discussion section. It's a currency and in one way or the other those involved trade it.
You topic should have been better styled to reflect the issue of spam and how it affects the section. Spam is a problem in many boards on the forum and we have discussed ways to reduce it repeatedly.
- do not post hackneyed questions. A simple search could have given you resources to answer your question.
- report unhelpful comments when you come across them

A bulk of the workload rests on bounty managers to properly screen those who apply to ensure the highest post quality possible.

I think the Trading Boards are still quite useful, but the Speculation boards on the other hand are a real cesspool.
Though I still think they shouldn't be removed either. I've made countless reports in Bitcoin Discussion to send threads to the Speculation boards, if they weren't there anymore, those threads would just have to be deleted.

While I personally do not see the merits of price discussion threads, some people apparently do. Who am I to say that they shouldn't be allowed?
