Title: New way of scam, be aware
Post by: RapTarX on June 27, 2019, 05:23:38 PM
Someone knocked me on telegram couple of hours ago and asked me if I know about cryptocurrency.
He said he is from China and can't withdraw his bitcoin from an exchange due to the ban. He asked me to withdraw the bitcoin for him and offered me 30% of the withdraw.
Exchange- nentrade.com
He asked me to create an account there. Later, he will deposit. This is a bit fishy. First he said, he has BTC on exchange. Now, his tone changed and he is asking me to create account and give address.

Deal- He will deposit me 3 BTC in nentrade.com and I will give him 2 BTC out of my pocket, prior to this, at some point he asked me if I had any BTC.

Later, I searched about the exchange and saw the site was created 14 days ago. See the screenshot.

This is the second time I have read about a random guy sending private messages. Again, just report this people as spam and telegram will ban this people from sending pm's to scam others.

This story sounded familiar to me. This is similar to a story about a Nigerian prince/princess that's asking for help to withdraw his/her funds from the bank because they cannot access it (something like that).

Anyone or anything which says you need to send or deposit coins in order to be paid is a scam. This includes:

Twitter scams - "Send 0.5 ETH to get 5 ETH"
Gambling site scams - "You have won 0.1 BTC! Deposit 0.01 BTC first to unlock your account."
Trading scams - "You create an account, and also send me 2 BTC, and I'll fund the account with 3 BTC."

In this case, the site was a fake one created by the attacker. I've also seen cases where the attacker gets a newbie to set up a new wallet with a seed, private key, or password which the attackers gives them, then immediately steals the coins back again after the newbie has paid up.

In the same way you wouldn't hand over hundreds or thousands of dollars in cash to a random stranger who approached you on the street, don't have other your crypto to a random strange who approaches you online.

This process is absolutely not new. Mind you next time don't let curiosity get the best of you. How on earth out of the billions of people in the world and the millions on telegram you his choose one it's not your lucky day my friend it's your potential doom no need to even give it a second thought block the person ASPA

Probably the website has nothing to do with this whether or not the exchange is a scam. This kinds of scam are purely done by the individual where you are somehow offered “more” by just doing some kind of favor for him but the thing is you won't receive that 1 BTC income but instead lose the 2 BTC he is really aiming for. You really don't need to go far with this especially when he just contacted you through Telegram where a lot of members are being targeted.

It is clearly a scam attempt from an single person. There is no such thing as free BTC that you can get from other person who needs your help like the one you mention. It is okay to give wallet address since it cannot be stolen from you unless you give the UTC file or your private key. Don't ever send any btc to the scammer's wallet address.

After all, you still entertained him and try to give it a shot where it should be obvious already that the whole process will be sh*t.

Well then, I understand that it's your first time you encountered it and good thing you realized on the way that something is not right. Good.

Honestly, this is not new. If the intention is sincere, just imagined why you are being chosen out of several friends or known people of that user. Common sense indeed.

Good thing they asked you BTC2. Because I think the other way around will happen if they told you to give them BTC0.01 lol.

A simple whois search indeed reveals a lot about how legitimate a site is given most of the scam sites out there are only very recently made, and Telegram as a whole is a pretty popular platform at the moment for scammers to target. Being more careful about talking to people on there and having some common sense usually helps you to avoid common scams. Most scams are very obvious and clear to see and involve the various scenarios already mentioned above.

Its already obvious that it is a scam attempt, do not fall with  this kinds of offers  ,no one will give you free and huge amount money without doing anything , theres is also a person offering free btc ,he said he can make me a winner in a gambling website  , cause he is one of the moderator with that offer i knew that the person is a scammer.

This modus operandi is not new. I recall the same thing has been posted multiple times in various media since last year. Either this was done by the same scammer group or a lot of scammers share the same method to scam someone.

That being said, anyone should've realized by now that any website requiring you to deposit before withdrawing is clearly a scam.

Deal- He will deposit me 3 BTC in nentrade.com and I will give him 2 BTC out of my pocket, prior to this, at some point he asked me if I had any BTC.
Basically such deal is clearly a scam one. He have BTC stucked on one exchanges (not sure how much, for example: 5 BTC). Then, he send to your account 3 BTC, and wait to get back from you with onlyl 2 BTC. It means at start he might get 8 BTC loses if you can withdraw 5 BTC and run away. He might ask you to go first, and such thing is another reason to point out scam efforts.
I think only greedy guy might fall into that stupid trap. Personally, I don't see reason to take risk with my 2 BTC just to get back some promised bonus.

I guess you have messed up the point.
He initially said he has BTC stucked on exchange but later, he said he will deposit me BTC in nentrade.

This had been one of the most stupid scams I came across. I've had a comment in of the threads with the exact same issue and there I told this that the name of the exchange I was told by the scammer was something else. It's utter non-sense and like harizen said, even I thought that why is he being so much generous on me by wanting to give me ~BTC0.2 for nothing but just redemption of his coins? At first stance, I thought that he must be wanting my KYC to get his funds withdrawn but no, his intention was to scam me for just BTC0.02 (yeah, it was JUST 0.02 for him as he was iterating it like 0.02 against 2 BTC is a drop out of an ocean). It's not necessary that you need someone to spoonfeed you to make you aware of all such types of scams, you need brain in order to think and act instead of taking action immediately under the effect of greed.

This is a very typical scam that has been known for years, they will ask you to deposit later after promising that you will get a decent profit from "his" balance.

Don't deposit any amount for a stranger, simple as that.

Yep this is also the 2nd thread I've read about a SCAM offering return to users in telegram PM. This is why I prefer to be the one who will send PM than the ones who will PM  me.

Scammers are everywhere. You wanna try fooling around with them? If you have joined for the first time to a telegram for exchange support, like the support of CREX24 or the gate.io telegram support. You will be bombard with PMs from representatives of the exchange but on the pin post they give warnings about PMs.

I was spammed an year ago. I still remember the days when the market was bearish and I was trading even in that market conditions. One person(say person X) pinged me stating that there is a person(say person Y) who has built bot that seriously earns sound profit and asked for the funds. He sent me some order book photos and said he will set bot on exchange which would earn and then we will go on with % profit sharing.

I created and account transferred funds(0.8 BTC) and gave the account to him. Initially there was sound profit that is the funds were ~1BTC in a span of 7days. He constantly kept pinging to increase the funds and out of greed I increased it to 1.5 BTC by then we were really good friends over telegram. One fine day account has no funds and the telegram account not responding.

When I asked the person(person X) who introduced me to the scammer(person Y). I got to know that the person X was also scammed and had lost more than what I lost.

It was the biggest learning for my life time.

I have read similar stories about this months ago, it is not new. The only thing that changes are the websites that they create to scam people.
There was some talk about these methods in our local board as well several months back.
Never deposit any money and dont reply to people who contact you and ask you if you have bitcoins, it is none of their business and they are never legit!

Indeed! If we think that those proposals seems "too good to be true" then we must already be alarmed by it since it has a very high possibility of a scam ploy and knowing the signs in advance could help us not to become a victim of it. I think alertness and vigilance is the key to help us fight this types of schemes which are rampant in the whole crypto industry.

Obviously that scammer is only targeting newbie in crypto or some greed that can be easily lured by offering high profit in return.
And I believe that this is also  a tricky strategy to reverse the situation from being sender to a receiver since at first he will promise providing the amount but sooner he will ask you to do it for him

It is indeed intended for newbie, let's imagine strange people who ask for help and he will pay a huge money to make an account in an exchange.

The normal person he will find his close friend and make it an account in the exchange or even he can create his own account by using his family's identity if the exchange ask KYC.

However, I like what the OP has done he seeks information first before making a decision. More than that he creates his experience on this forum in order to most member now the way a scammer does to cheat crypto users.

It is the point, because even 1 BTC worths lot of money nowadays, even when Bitcoin dumped hard today. IMO, there is no reason to take risks and ask for help from strange guys in Internet while that guy can ask for help from his/ her relatives or close friends. It is not too hard to ask for help with people around that guy. Therefore, at the first glance, it is clearly a big trap for greedy guys.

These kind of messages used to come daily in my mail box, where it was claimed someone had left me huge sums of money and I needed to pay some fees in order to claim it but luckily I googled it and realised that it was a scam. Indeed this was intentionally targeted towards the newbies because they’re bound to send bitcoins in anticipation of receiving that huge sum. The worst part is newbies won’t be be able to recover their money once they decided to send it, hence it’s about time newbies start using common sense and stop falling for such scams.

I think the part where he immediately entrusted you with 3 BTC is what I can consider an immediate red flag since he probably haven't even met you in real life yet he is willing to hand you over $30k+ worth of Bitcoins.

Seems scammers are really working doubly hard at this time. As the market recovers, scammers are also recovering their oldest tricks to delude people.

Just don't trust anyone.

This is so simple to not be scammed, just don't answer to this scammy PMs from Telegram and other social media services.

Easy money doesn't exist and if one offers insane amounts of money, you can be sure, you will lose a few times more in the end.

Such an attempt is just pure scam, to take your money or to involve you in illegal business, which will end up very bad for you, even if you get paid

They ask to open bank accounts on your name and hand over all access data or to take credit cards and let them use it.

Of course, scammers have very well made up stories, they will tell you, but all this is a pure lie, just to get you in.

One more time there is no easy money and if something looks too good then is almost always a scam.

Its has always be whenever there's a rise in the price of Bitcoin, but for this type of scam; it's not too hard to detect becasue of their offering of profit. Basically, this's intended to scam nobs around the world of cryptocurrency and not an average Bitcoiners. More reason why we must educate this community against such attacks. Gone are those days where they acted and many fall as prey to their scam, not now again.

I was in Italy meeting with a potential investor and I was approached by the person who introduced me to the investor and he said he needed some Bitcoin to pay off someone and he did not have enough.  So he offered to meet me in person and give me in cash the cost of the Bitcoin plus 10%.  He wanted 3 Bitcoin.

I felt something was wrong but I could not figure out how the scam would work. Since he was giving me the cash in EUROs first.  My only thought was maybe it was counterfeit money.  So I told him if I were to do it I would want him to go to a bank with me and give the bank the cash and they would convert it to USD. This way they could see if it was counterfeit.  He hurriedly said sure.  But in the end, something just did not feel right, so I said no thank you.

I don't know about the other, but for me. This kind of trick won't easily get me fooled. Cause it sounds so fishy at the beginning.
Why would he have assets in a place he doesn't know well. And another fact, he's willing to give a stranger some of his asset just by doing a simple thing. Too weird
