Title: Will cryptocurrency soon be an alternate payment option?
Post by: growthincrypto on June 28, 2019, 08:56:41 AM
Just a month ago, giants like Starbucks, Nordstrom, Whole Foods, and AT&T announced that they accept cryptocurrency as a payment option.
With the  popularity that cryptocurrency is growing there is no doubt that it will soon be among other payment methods. Especially for the international payments, with its ridiculously low fee and time taken for inter-border transfers it is surely the favorite among the traders.
Also, with giants accepting it as a payment option there is no other need to prove its authenticity.

Do you own any cryptocurrency yet?

Yes cryptocurrency is already another option of payment and it's spreading like wide fire.
Alot where initially critical about cryptocurrency some labeling it all sort of names like a ponzi scheme, fraud etc but it has actual caught there interest

But want thing I can say is that we might see this giant companies like the OP has just mentioned that accepts cryptocurrency or some that has not yet started following the same way as facebook and creating there own coin.

Should there be a limitation to this yes cryptocurrency has created an avenue for a whole new way of trading and transaction should any company just develop there coin just because they had already gained fame and altcoins that has been in cryptocurrency for a while would die out this would cause competition and might build of to an avalanche of coins in the future.
bitcoin and some good number of altcoin are my point of fancy in the cryptocurrency community. am not interested in Libra coin(still sceptical about it)
If this faint want to venture into cryptocurrency there should make use of the existing coins and not corrupting the whole system

It already is. Sadly I still can't use crypto for one of my jobs. They still require my bank details and charge me around $4 for every transfer that I made (not to mention the services fees). If it's possible I'd rather accept payment in crypto and if it was needed I'll cash out immediately, rather than 'giving away' +$5 for fees.

Yes, there are so many of my contacts who have started accepting Payment in crypto. Even at the place I work few interns asked whether they can get stipend in Crypto. The upcoming generation is more interested and trusting in cryptos. It is great to see the adoption.  :D

But, I think there was no need of authenticity of the technology(behind crypto) past then or in the future.

Cryptocurrency with its blockchain technology has great potential to replace the current conventional payment method, but in some countries, there are still problems with existing government regulations. several other issues such as price volatility and hacker problems are also still things to consider if it will be used as a payment method to replace fiat money. For now, the cryptocurrency struggle to become an alternative payment can be fairly heavy, but it does not rule out the possibility that in the future it can happen.

For BTC I guess more companies are going accept it but for most altcoins, it will take a lifetime before they will consider accepting.

Where did you hear about AT&T going to accept cryptocurency? There is DENT token which is busy making partners with mobile and telephone companies on every country. I followed them on twitter, they were announcing they are working with telecoms in each country. There isn't a way to confirm their claim but its been said and their followers are all praises to the team. I think I once read AT&T was working with the DENT team.

It is currently accepted as a payment method in some small companies. But of course it will take a while for it to spread.

I don't think the credit card has become available worldwide in just a few years. It took time ... In my childhood a lot of local shops did not want to use credit cards. They was just pressuring people to shop for cash. In fact, there are still small shops of this type.

Moreover, the use of credit cards can be a bit problematic for foreign travels due to exchange rate differences. Bitcoin and other crypto coins have no problem with this type.

Cryptocurrencies are currently accepted on big companies like you've mentioned, but yeah, perhaps we will still see these companies accept a compromise that will require a third-party service integration to ensure that bitcoin will be converted immediately to fiat once a sale is made. Some independent merchants could accept crypto as is depending on their business model, though I don't see big names in the industry would ever do it. They'd save even the last penny for profit, so bitcoin's volatility somehow defeats that, or scares them to lose every penny they make.

First it has to be regulated by government but im not sure if this will happen  :'(

why do you keep repeating "cryptocurrency"? as far as i remember those companies announced the possibility of them to start accepting "bitcoin" as payment in the near future not "cryptocurrency".

in any case bitcoin has been an alternative payment option for many years now. i think from the days that it was used to pay for Pizza it started being one and stopped just being virtual money. ever since then it has only grown.

If you will analyze the happenings today, crypto's are already being used as a payment.

Accepting crypto as payments is not really bad in business and in cryptocurrency. It has a mutual benefits among the crypto users and every establishments. It encourage others to join in cryptocurrency after finding out to.what good could.it be made after seeing other users using cryptocurrency for payment. It will be less hassle and it will be also easier to do transaction. But sometimes, the cryptocurrency would also be needing a platform that will help the ease in payments.

As a alternative payment options, I would say yes, but globally accepted? I think we need like 5-10 years before merchants will truly accept it in their stores whether online or off-line. LN might be a good solution, but then again, not all are still in the boat. A lot of them have qualms and doubts as whether they will accept Bitcoin or crypto in general.

But as crypto enthusiast, of course we dream that one day, it will generally be accepted, however, as I have said it might take years before it will be a reality.

Yes, cryptocurrency has become an alternative payment option in some countries even though only a few stores can access alternative payments using cryptocurrency but that is one of the proofs of excellent development.
and lately there have been some news that I have heard that large or small traders have adopted bitcoin as an alternative payment option.

For us, people who likes and earn money with technology, cryptos are being used already

I pay a lot os services with cryptos, like servers, digital good and some services, it's incredible and very useful, because I can pay some guy on Europe without any other service, directly to the person and I just have have to pay a small fee in some coins like XMR, LTC etc

Bitcoin will get served as an alternate to the traditional fiat based payment. We've got more online stores providing gateway for payment with bitcoin and few other top altcoins. Based on the need the advancement is done by the giants, and Facebook entering the cryptocurrency network is an added support for the increasing use of cryptocurrency for all day to day needs. Stated in the Op, bitcoin transactions reduce the transaction fee and the transaction is done in a very short time period.
These days most of the firms that are accepting bitcoin for their services offline prefer to make the payment through an intermediary who serve to convert the bitcoin paid into fiat and give to the service render on small commissioning. This needs to change and direct dealings on bitcoin needs to increase.

Bitcoin already IS an alternate payment option. It's being added to multiple payment systems like every day. Those who try it become impressed by the simplicity and fast speed of the whole process. It encourages more and more payment processors add bitcoin as an option. I believe soon we'll be able to pay for everything we need with bitcoin.

In times like these, one can really see that cryptos are not very appropriate for small transactions. At least, Bitcoin definitely isn't. You buy 1 coffee in Starbucks for 3 dollars, and pay the same in fees, also waiting for half an hour for the transaction to receive the first confirmations? However, you are right about solid international money transfers. It is indeed very fast and cheap to send money in BTC in these cases. And there are banks that realize it and utilize this feature of blockchain already.
I, of course, support the wider recognition of Bitcoin as payment in various areas, but we really need something for small transactions. At least, wider adoption of the Lightning network.

It is an option that's for sure. The only weak point of bitcoin as a payment option is its acceptance. It is an option you can use but every 1 per 100 stores will allow you to do it.

Maybe the question should be rephrased to when will bitcoin be a widely available payment option? The answer is nobody knows :D Maybe in 2 years but maybe never. It can be a popular savings solution but never be a commonly used payment system.

As fiat merchants discover the benefits of using cryptocurrencies, I have no doubt cryptos will be a more preferred form of payment over fiat as we are seeing some of industries big companies ready to accept cryptocurrencies.
And as far as I can tell cryptocurrencies have more benefits that sellers will enjoy more than the buyers.

Cryptocurrency is slowly but surely making its way into our society even though there still much progress to be done, it is still a huge progress that we have made considering how a new concept and a new technology it is, i that it won't be too long before we see it in every store, especially since next year we will see Facebook launching their Libra coin which i have a hunch that it will be usable as a payment methods outside of Facebook since they are a huge company and have the ways and the ability to do so.

Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency has been used as an alternate payment option before in some businesses. The only difference is that these bigger company names don't want to get involved in any cryptocurrency as a payment option yet. And now look at them, they might back if they see the transaction fees during the bull run and i know some company retreating because they can't handle the volatility and the transaction fees.

It is a hassle to wait for a confirmation.  Maybe it isn't an issue on cheap purchases where they can take the risk but if it is a significant amount the merchant will surely want to wait for at least one confirmation.  As we have seen in the past, you either have to wait a very long time or pay a ridiculous fee when the network gets congested.

right now long term holders are keeping their btc as much as possible. many of us are looking at btc as investment rather than money for day to day expenses. we cash out when we need to but as much as possible we don't want to spend the btc that we have. this mindset might be owed to the fact that increase in price is overwhelming. but when it comes to the point that its value stabilised and price volatility is not that much, we might see the spending of btc will grow tremendously.

Although the big companies are accepting cryptocurrency as payment, if the government still not approve, then they could not apply cryptocurrency. The important thing is we need approval from the government so the big companies can be free to use cryptocurrency as their payment option. Besides that, if the government can approve cryptocurrency, people will use and know about cryptocurrency, and if that happens, then we will going to see the growth of cryptocurrency in real life.

Most people actually understand the potential crypto has. What you are hearing is a cliche concept of someone who does not know something and thus they go around calling it scam. What maybe a scam is a ponzi scheme or a failed trading method which that person probably was fooled into thinking would double their money. That is nothing to do with crypto being a scam.

What is good is that big industries and companies are starting to recognize crypto as a force to be reckoned with so this will push the governments to accepting crypto as a trade-able asset and thus reduce the mental barrier that people have while thinking of trading then in fiat.

It is already a great alternate payment option for now. One of the main reasons why it does not move forward in strides is that cryptocurrencies are being traded. Their value are moving up and down the charts all the time. It could suddenly leap high or dive deep down in so short a time. It could mean a lot of confusion to businesses. There needs to be a certain level of stability of these currencies' prices in order for them to be better payment alternatives.

Yes I do own some crypto, and it is already an alternate payment option at many places. You can pay server costs, buy giftcards, pay bills, etc using it.
I'm also experiencing a good service like this, its already working well though not at all but i see great future. Cryptocurrency will be use online for many purposes, with so many options in the future I see bitcoin to still lead cryptocurrency on many businesses. I just can't take the fees on our local wallet every time you use your bitcoin or any coins to transact, its pretty huge honestly especially if the price of bitcoin are rising.

I do think that it might be a problem for us investors , if we choose to buy things using cryptocurrencies then more or less we are loosing money .
It might be a good option for things involving , some off seas transactions which if done in fiat is something that gets problematic and then there are all these government things you need to clear too.
Therefore other than that I don't think I would like to just go and buy coffee and other things with Bitcoin as long as am not getting a very good deal , because more or so , even when it comes to lightning network it does take some fee , even if it's minor , if we keep using it daily it might actually account to something big.

I'm very optimistic that in the future, there will be more bitcoin transactions that will be accepted. That banner of 'bitcoin accepted here' will be everywhere.

Its gonna take a while for cryptocurrency to be considered as an alternate payment option for all kind of transactions whether online or offline. Considering the entire population of the world, just a hand full of people know what cryptocurrency is and those who are aware of it see it as an investment venture rather than an alternate payment option.  Due to this, its gonna take a long period of time for people to use cryptocurrency as their payment option.

I believe it is already an alternate payment option.  My country the Philippines already acknowledge Bitcoin as a payment method way back 2017 (https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-philippines-officially-legitimize-bitcoin-as-payment-method).  I myself had been using it to pay for my utility bills and other stuffs using Coins.ph.

I am not sure where you are sitting, but it has already become alternative for many and there shouldn’t be any surprise with it. Now one can use Cryptos on many places. One can use it easily as many sites got Buy With Crypto (https://cryptolinks.com/buy-with-bitcoin) facility, it really eases out everything for many having Cryptos. But of course, with that we also need to be careful to do with many sites having it but are not trustworthy, so this is what we need to plan wisely and carefully.

For BTC I guess more companies are going accept it but for most altcoins, it will take a lifetime before they will consider accepting.

But there are still few companies who are already open for some coins as a payments like Ethereum, bch and others. There is a bar here in our area where they are already accepting not only bitcoin as a payment but to the other coins, too. Punta Mandala Resto bar is the name. You can see it here. https://bitpinas.com/shop/punta-mandala-mandaluyong-accepts-btc/

I am very positive that it could be an alternative payments. It is starting now, just in a selected businesses for now but later on it could be adopted by all.

Yes, I think crypto currency will be an alternative way of payment, because the old payment system that uses cash is considered very old and less practical and efficient. Crypto currency is considered as an alternative method of payment that is far more modern, practical and efficient, now you no longer need to carry your wallet and cash now, you just need to bring a smartphone that is connected to the network to make practical transactions without cash.

Bitcoin is already alternate payment option in some parts of the world, like Africa, or Nepal, for example.
I have some friends there and when I tried to send them some money, they explained me that they can't open Paypal accunt, WU and Bank transfer fees was to high so finally I sent them money with bitcoin.
In the future, I expect that many more people will accept bitcoin as the best way to send or receive money because it's fast, secure, low fees and transactions are anonymous.

It's already an alternative payment option. Maybe, small in scale but is nevertheless. With the introduction of Libra, crypto would become the default medium of payment on the internet and soon would take over the non-internet based goods and service markets.

We must know the real condition.  As a digital asset,  yeah it wi be spreading widely.  But for transaction,  it need more times to grow and develop to be accepted in many more merchants in the world.

But we are not giving up, soon, when they understand why crypto is a good alternate payment option, I'm sure they will, in due time.

I live in Indonesia and for us here, having cryptocurrency as an asset is not prohibited but using it as payment is still prohibited by our law. Acceptance of cryptocurrencies as assets is a step forward for the development of cryptocurrency itself. Extra effort is needed for cryptocurrency to be accepted as a payment instrument that is accepted throughout the world. And in my personal opinion, this will not happen in the near future.
I also live in Indonesia and it is true that Cryptocurrency is still illegal as a means of payment but is legal for investment.
However, the latest news from our government if Bitcoin is currently legal as an instrument of payment and recognized by the state, but not yet for other cryptocurrency.
I only hope that as soon as possible the cryptocurrency can be legalized in my country as a whole, not only Bitcoin but other Altcoin.

There are already merchants accepting cryptocurrencies as an alternative payment to their products/services depending on your local wallet provided. In fact, this option enables and attracts more customers.
Although there may be merchants present, be wary that about the government's stand into cryptocurrencies. Some countries prohibit the usage of such and this may lead into problems.

I do hope that more businesses would accept cryptocurrency as an alternative option for easily accessibility and convenience in both the consumer and the producer.

What do you mean? Bitcoin is already an alternate payment option for possibly a long time. Many online services these days have been accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment. Let's take an example on Steam. This giant game video game company once took a choice to accept Bitcoin for video game purchasing (although they did revert this some years later). Not only online services, just like your example, a big coffee house chain like Starbucks have also accepted Bitcoin. This literally cryptocurrency have already been an alternate payment option. The word 'alternate' is derived From the Latin word alternō which means take turns. Have you grasped the concept now? Cryptocurrency has taken a turn as a payment option.

Now I think the real question here is Will cryptocurrency soon be a primary payment option?.

I am a crypto currency lover and strongly support crypto currencies used for transactions internationally. I think this crypto currency will be a solution for transactions that cannot be done with fiat currencies. The large number of large companies that partner with crypto currencies will trigger other companies to work with crypto currencies. By using crypto currencies, payments can be applied internationally without thinking of taxes. Transactions can also be done easily, quickly, and practically. I think that crypto currencies, especially bitcoin, are ready to be used as alternative currencies in making payments.

Using some cryptocurrencies as an alternative payment could speed up the adoption especially bitcoin and this give crypto users many options on where to use their coins. Some bitcoin exchanges have already using bitcoin as an alternate payment option because there are already available shops, government agencies and utilities that accept bitcoin. But is still limited to wealthy countries where bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are accepted and used. The future for cryptocurrencies as a payment option is still promising and I believe it will happen soon.

You are correct. While some people object they can't buy a cup of coffee fast enough, it is vastly superior to wire transfers and foreign money exchanges, or even credit cards in many transactions. And a bitcoin is still a bitcoin no matter where you are. Tourism is one of the main venues where crypto will become popular, also international transactions of any kind.

Next time you visit $random country you will be glad to find a shop that accepts your crypto directly instead of just $random fiat. And, that your fortune is always with you without needing to declare it to anyone.

This world is changing, fast, post Satoshi.

The fact that cryptocurrency is said today everywhere is very good.
Looking from a broader perspective, yes. But getting the wrong type of attention and bad names on media does hurt the market which is again temporary.

Quote
Very often, the statements of famous people who really influence the popularization of cryptocurrency in the world.
That is the bad effect of Black PR. We have seen how badly bitcoin has been bashed by famous people and then some trading waves had set in.

Quote
That's just the real use of cryptocurrency is possible after its full legalization, at least in the leading countries of the world.  If this does not happen, many businessmen, taxpayers will have problems with the government.
I dont think either of that is going to happen. Legalization of crypto would mean those who are using crypto for black market purpose will move away from it. That would drop the market demand for bitcoin. Taxpaying on crypto is still something that has not be cleared out - since the system does not make provisions for taxation and only those who want to voluntarily give taxes are going to do so.

Isn't it already an alternative option for payments? Most merchants already know Bitcoin exists. Some are eager to learn more about it and incorporate it into their payment options. Still merchant adoption was on it's peak when Bitcoin was stable at around 200-400$. Price fluctuations probably cause more problems for corporations.

Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Bitcoin is here to provide solutions to disabilities that exist in transactions through banks and fiat so far. Not that bitcoin is without notes, can transactions be done by the internet? Well, the logic is like that. I think fiat, bank, or bitcoin will continue to grow and improve the system in each without having to restore or be replaced. if to replace the bank, it seems the possibility is very small. But if the bank system uses blockchain technology, it can, because as far as I know, there are many large outside banks that have begun to study blockchain technology.
Maybe it could be possible for a country to change currencies with bitcoin, but it would be difficult also to buy daily necessities using bitcoin, especially for places that are difficult to reach with the internet, and whether all people understand, it would be difficult for older people to use bitcoin and children therefore need paper money. see the increasingly modern technological development of cryptocurrency currencies like it seems will be used and developed as a modern transaction, and it is quite appropriate besides being more efficient and more transparent, the future of the cryptocurrency era will begin.

Cryptocurrencies are already accepted as an alternative payment by some companies. Here in our country, we can use cryptocurrencies as a payment to load credits, for paying games and others, but only limited people and establishments knows cryptocurrencies and I think that is the reason why some do not see its potential as a payment option. Also some countries are against these cryptos, they want to put regulations to it. If only governments accepts and support bitcoin and other altcoins, more people will learn about these and more companies will use it as an alternative payment.

Not as an alternate payment, but it has been getting added to more services as one of the payments gateway.

How much users make use of the payment gateway is very low, but the usage has begun long back itself.

These days most of the people doesn't have knowledge about the cryptocurrency and its market.

More corporate firms entering cryptocurrency market will let it get used more than an alternate soon.

Over the years the usage and acceptance level keeps on increasing.

it won't be very soon , at least
cryptocurrencies have yet to achieve 1% of the transactions speed VISA and Mastercard offer
this is one of the main obstacles on the way to become a staple payment option
while bitcoin and its Lightning network is taking steps towards it , this is very far from being a valid replacement for fiat and cards
there is a very long way ahead , but with adoption and more businesses trading directly for bitcoin or crypto , this could happen
don't expect it in the next ten years or so , though - its a perspective

This will surely happen in the future but I wonder if bitcoin is a good option for it as it is not suitable for small amount of money transfer.

I will be hoping that there will be changes in transaction fees in bitcoin so it can continue to dominate all other currencies in the future especially in being an alternative payment option in different types of industries. This will surely happen faster once all the government leaders will consider crypto currencies as legal and they will start to adapt it freely.

Surely other big corporations and organizations will see reasons why they would adopt cryptos as a better and alternative means of payment obviously the number of cryptos enthusiastic is growing at an alarming rate and the need to cater for those that falls into that category must be addressed I wont take much time before cryptos will surpassed other digital currencies as a better, secured and faster payment gateway however the only bottleneck as regards usage of cryptos is the cumbersome and some how complex means of its transaction mostly by non tech savvy individuals who are not even eager to learn it.

Yeah, it can be used. Why not? It is actually used as an alternate payment option is various online sites. Not sure of offline stores actually accept them as a payment option but I have heard many stories about cafes and stores accepting bitcoin as a form of payment. As people starts to adopt bitcoin and other crypto currencies, then we will eventually see business accepting crypto currency as an alternate payment option. But before that, we have a lot to develop and solve various issues we are facing  currently with crypto currencies.

There's an exchange site that I use here in the Philippines and its Coins.ph and it allows me to pay my utilities like water bill, electricity bill, telephone bill, cable bills, loans and other stuffs. But, with Bitcoins volatility this past few days, I don't want to use Bitcoin to pay for my bill, I just hold them and let it grow for now.

crazy price swings do not add to the cryptocurrencie's popularity among the retailers
you would not want to accept 10 bitcoin sales worth , say , 110.000$ today only to realize it is 95.000$ tomorrow
this should change when you do not think about converting coins into cash , but able to go and buy whatever you need in your day to day lives
including food and groceries and even a pint at your local pub
until then cryptocurrencies will remain marginalized as a payment option and only a few businesses would try to introduce it as a payment option , sadly
but for everything there is a start and those who come to this market first could reap the profits and benefit greatly ( or flop dramatically )

Most likely. In fact, Bitcoin (BTC) is the most fungible cryptocurrency out of them all and can be exchanged in dollars, cryptocurrency, gold, gift cards, and other commodities. You can do so at Paxful with over 300+ payment methods. Learn how here (https://www.smartbitcoininvestments.com/paxful-review/).

eBay, Amazon, FastTech accept cryptocurrency. Other products and services You can buy VPNs, Microsoft software products and applications in the AppStore for Bitcoin. With cpay.io, you can throw bitcoin on the phone. Strangely enough, cryptocurrency is very popular among individual entrepreneurs and private legal entities.

Here, Bitcoin is first being converted to fiat cash and then this fiat cash is used for purchasing of commodities, gold, gift cards.etc. Here the payment option is not cryptocurrency. The payments are being made in US Dollar or some other fiat currency. Even in shopping sites such as Bitify, the items are priced in USD or EUR, with the option to make the payment in BTC.

Direct payments using Bitcoin may become a reality only if the transaction fee is low enough, and there is no need for getting confirmations. Volatility in the exchange rate is another concern. And I don't think that it will become a reality unless there is enough push from the community to make direct payments feasible.

Those who had registered a few years back may be holding some coins in their wallets, but I am not sure about the ones who joined after 2017. The rules have changed and now you need to accrue a certain amount of merit before you get a promotion as far as the forum rank is concerned. And unless you are a Hero or a Legendary member, the chances of getting a slot in any of the signature campaigns is very low. Bounty contests are there, but the problem is that more than 95% of them never pay. And even when they make the payments, most of the times the tokens are worth next to nothing.

This forum has a total of 2.6 million+ registered members, and I don't think that more than 10% of this number holds a minimum of BTC0.01 in their wallets. I was lucky to purchase some crypto in 2012, when the exchange rates were around $10 per coin.

Actually adoption is becoming slow based on the news that I keep on seeing. Because of other people that only see crypto as a form of investment and for money only. Buti the truth is this is not how it works.. It's kinda disappointing that many people see this to crypto and the true concept is disappearing and I hope that many people will see people not just as a form of investment but also to help us make more conveniency in life and to make living easier.

Even now-a-days Some shops do not take credit card as they want cash money. So the far of the future  that will happen.

Yes, many companies will accept bitcoin as payment methods because this giant or well- known company accept it so it means that the small company will follow their footsteps. There are some many opportunities that bitcoin can make and these payment methods are one of the best of bitcoin's capability.

Besides, it seems They always have third parties to be ready to convert to fiat money on when there are payment transactions by cryptocurrency. So I hope they will accept more and more altcoins

The countries that made bitcoin illegal is due to their unawareness. They still think that bitcoin is just used for illegal transactions but they don't look at the usage of their local currencies. Soon bitcoin will be accepted worldwide although we can assume it already today as a widely accepted crypto.

All Bitcoin holders are expecting the coin to gain full acceptance in countries so as to increase its community.
Massive adoption means massive demand and greater price.

I wonder how it will look in the future. For example, if a giant like Amazon wants it? I have a website (https://grillguru.org/) which leads to Amazon and it would be cool to expand the possibilities of payment using this currency.
There some merchant on amazon which already receives cryptocurrency as their terms of payment. With that been said, cryptocurrency(BTC) has been used as an alternative payment option in some crypto friendly countries where bitcoin was already legalized and what we need now is more country to join the queue.

Crypto adoption is real! and Philippines is continuously working on it :). There are already few businesses and services here in our country which are now accepting btc payments. If you like going to bars and enjoy the night life, Punta Mandala (https://m.facebook.com/puntamandala/?fref=mentions) is the best for you; if you like to travel,  Pinoy Travel (https://www.pinoytravel.com.ph) was there etc. I'm just hoping that our crypto community grows even further by means of establishing even more businesses which accepts btc and also more investors starting to buy bitcoin.

It won't be a payment option any time soon.  Why?  Because Starbucks, etc do not want to hold Btc (or any other coin) rather than USD.  It would be some payment processor that does that, and no one wants to give away money in exchange for bitcoin if the value is going to go up and down like it does.  You could be rich one month and bankrupt the next.

I believe banks and companies will begin to create their own blockchain solutions to keep being in control while doing instant transfers whenever needed, and eventually, there will be some kind of regulations.

As the next market rally begins, I hope history doesn't repeat itself in the form if astronomical charges and delayed transactions. I really don't think is ready for full scale adoption as an alternative means of payment yet.

Crypto is already an alternative for the classical payment options. There are already a lots of merchants that accept Bitcoin.

What crypto needs is mass adoption but this process will take years.
the process can be fast or slow but sure
one of the factors that will certainly haunt the development of cryptocurrency to get mass adoption is the recognition of the government regarding regulation
and the settings regarding digital currencies that are not clear because even then some people will definitely think cryptocurency like money games

I mean a lot of wealth is concentrated in regions which do not need those payments, I see that those cross border payments are needed for large txs not for every day users.

But i see that alternate payment options is coming ( cryptos) , will it be popular enough, we will see.

Some countries already have regulations on crypto, so in the developed world the crypto becomes legitimate. Even like Japan that Bitcoin is already used for the purchase of goods. This will certainly continue to be developed because this crypto has a technology that can facilitate all selling tracers and bells.

Huge demand and acceptance make Bitcoin a price to continue to surge. So Bitcoin is very popular, and various breakthroughs about Bitcoin will continue to be developed, including for online shopping payments.

I believe coming month is gonna make a big change on the cryptocurrency network as well a good thought regarding bitcoin among the people who are always thinking about bitcoin as an asset for illegal needs. The Bakkt futures contract launch is what I meant, this will give more liquidity and the same will make governments legalize bitcoin. If not legalized at least they won't stand against merchants involving with bitcoin acceptance into their businesses.

That would not happen, they want merchants to comply with their policy, so that means they are in legal operation.
Crypto is not illegal and if the government will regulate it, it's good for us because it will give good future potential for the industry, it will grow because people will adopt since they are confident with the regulation.

We just have to accept that reality that we can't be anonymous anymore, when the government regulate us, KYC is the main requirement because they are centralized.

I think yes, Cryptocurrency will be an alternative payment option in the Internet world. I am sure in the future all online shop platforms will accept Crypto as its means of payment. So better than now we have to really learn about this Crypto world in order for tomorrow we can easily use it.
I think it should be this way that bitcoin a an alternative payment will expand in the future because as at the moment now, bitcoin has at least gotten to a stage where the ball has already been set rolling, we have so many store that are now using bitcoin or accepting bitcoin as an alternate payment to fiat.

We also have many governments now supporting it and there is this country that has approved the use of cryptocurrency as payment of salary, I also read news today where it was said that Switzerland banks are already partnering with some cryptocurrencies, so we are gradually expanding and in future, the expansion rate will become very high. One thing I believe about bitcoin is that the development will be higher than what we have in the past come future.

Second, if you believe the news, many countries are already working on a government crypto currency.

But it's good news for bitcoin or another cryptocurrency as an alternate payment option also its a huge step because the acceptance of bitcoin is increasing and the people will have some knowledge that bitcoin and other cryptocurrency is not all about scam and fraud.   :)

The thing is that crypto is still not accepted in many countries and is considered as drug money. So accepting it as a source of payment is kinda tough.
Though many companies have started using cryptocurrencies it is yet to be regulated in many countries.
Crypto is growing day by day and I am sure it will someday be legally accepted as a source of payment method.

Small shops don't even cover the 0.1% of the global economy, instead of purchasing the coffee with 10 min transaction due to the Bitcoin blockchain congestion I will go for the easy option. I also support the growth of the BTC accepted stores but reality speaks for itself. Topping up the phone number can be the best option for spending the crypto, other options look like a over-optimized to me.

In some countries have pioneered plans to close Conventional Banks and replace them with Digital Bank using Bitcoin. In addition, many Bitcoin ATMs have been built that function almost the same as existing Fiat ATMs.
But in my opinion this is only one good side of Bitcoin. Actually the most popular crypto has a very poor performance when applied as a medium of exchange. This is basically caused by very high volatility, which makes it inconvenient and impractical if you have to specify items or services in Bitcoin with price changes that are too fast.

For example, in the morning, you can buy a laptop with only 1 BTC, but due to daily fluctuations (which can range up to 30% -40%), in the end you can no longer buy the laptop at the price of 1 BTC, because the price has changed to 1.4 BTC. Unlike the perspective value on the daily exchange rate between EUR and USD which only averaged 1% and a maximum of 3% only.

The payment option acceptance will surely grow especially if more and more countries will start to either accept or legalize crypto curreny in the future. But right now, having the big companies out there that accepts crypto currencies as payment option then other will surely follow in order to widen their payment options and reach more customers if it will be safe in their part.

Safe means, their government didn't ban or prohibited the use of crypto currencies in their country as it is their first step by accepting crypto currencies as payment options.

It has been used as an alternative payment option in some of the huge stores and companies already and more will do this too. Aside from the stores and companies that has been accepting this, criminals and some bad people are using cryptocurrency too ;).

Well, both of them can increase the global adoption of crypto. Whether you use it in good or bad, its ok as long as more and more will use it in the succeeding years.

Of course, if in fact in Brazil the bank of Brazil will accept operations with Bitcoin, as with Portugal where they will accept payments with tax-free bitcoin, and Colombia has some plans for the creation, recently China will also launch its Cryptocurrency that they have been developing for 5 years, in Venezuela also in stores called TRAKI can buy with Bitcoin.

Lately there has been a worldwide awakening about technology, in fact everything has accelerated once Facebook announced its cryptocurrency, immediately after large companies and countries have opened up to this world, it may be because of the immense model of business that represents, because even Telegram will launch its cryptocurrency in 2 months which had been paused since 2018, but due to the pressures of its private investors it is very likely that they have made the decision to be launched.

I believe that bitcoin has aroused worldwide interest that should have been done in 2009 from the moment of its creation, now there will be a rapid increase of many more people entering the market, because they will be quickly educated so that they do not miss anything It comes, including that all this will ensure that bitcoin has a large increase in its price.

There is a lot of problems for the cryptocoins to become an alternative payment option globally. There are many Govt how does not like that situation to happen. Still, we can find there are some options where it been used as a payment option. If the adaptation of the crypto grows day by day then the gov will get pressure to uplift all kind of ban they have imposed on crypto. And then it could become an alternating option.

Even today, some cryptocurrencies can be used as a means to pay for not only services, but also goods.  Of course A full-scale infrastructure has not yet been created for this, but users using the Internet and a number of online stores can use cryptocurrency to pay for their purchase.  Very often there are online stores where they offer precisely digital technology for cryptocurrency.

In this issue of cryptocurrency payment, I think individual acceptance is quite more important to me than even government legalizing it, if we have big companies that are accepting it a your said, this would even create more awareness and also make people to start using crypto, it is when government see the percentage of people using it that they too would be encouraged to consider legalizing it.

I am not even sure if governments has fully place ban on crypto other that the news that we do hear in the cryptocurrency news daily, I only know of 1 or 2 country, but I think so far, most countries has been flexible about the cryptocurrency issue since they have not seen any negative effect of it on their economy or on their governance which they will never see.

Yes, there are some various platforms even here in my country which is Philippines is accepting now bitcoin as payment. You can see a lot of merchants that accepts bitcoin now that's why the there's a lot of bitcoin payment gateways as of now.
  • bitpay
  • btcpay

When it comes to gaming platforms, steam already started accepting bitcoin but definitely stop it because of the stability of the market.
Fyi, we have a local wallet here in PH that accepts and converts BTC to PHP, so basically we can buy or pay bills through bitcoin.

I know that's happening in different platforms right now.

most people dont spend thier btc for payment but there are some that is happy using thier btc and other cryptos for payment use on a daily basis  , this is why these people ask for more companies or shops to support crypto/btc payments  .

For example, steam tried cryptos but nobody were paying with cryptos

i heard of that before  . steam accepts btc and there is that who use their btc on the steam shop however i heard steam remove btc due to outrageous fees and replace it with altcoin  .

It encourages more and more payment processors add bitcoin as an option. I believe soon we'll be able to pay for everything we need with bitcoin.
Obviously cryptocurrency will soon be an alternate payment option. There are many big companies already accept cryptocurrency as their payment method. Gradually the number of company will increase and cryptocurrency becomes the main alternative of payment option.

You need to around a bit more. Governments are attempt to censor crypto in many countries declaring them as illegal commodities and users are getting afraid to use them, gradually culling the good folk here. Merchants who accept crypto are just a handful and would never increase in number unless their governments would allow easy trading of crypto and not poke their noses in crypto transactions.

It would never become a first choice but they can and should become lenient about crypto. People dont use fiat because its bad, but its simple to use and they are accustomed to it. Pro-bitcoin stance would be pretty bullish on the market too.

Only through global adoption it is possible to experience cryptocurrency as an alternate payment option. Until then based on the end users (sender and receiver) cryptocurrency transaction gets priority. Right now global transaction happening through cryptocurrencies doesn't contribute a big volume compared to the fiat and digital form of fiat transactions (debit/credit cards, online banking, payment applications authorized by banking services)

Global change happens slowly, and we're at the very beginning stage. Just ten years away from the day it got used, by this time there are many changes in the economic system happened due to the existence of cryptocurrency. Someday this could get priority as the alternate payment option.

Even most people don't use USDT(stable coin) as a daily payment. It is excellent for digital currency to be used for multinational large-value payment settlement. However, at the daily micropayment level, the market does not have this demand to use cryptocurrency, because this demand has been satisfactorily met by credit card、Alipay、paypal and so on.

I should say yes. let's assume Bitcoin for some reason does become the world's new global currency. there is a non-insignificant chance it will happen. bitcoin can't handle the world's transactions currently on the base layer. No crypto can, none comes even close. But Bitcoin can handle the world's transactions on second and third layers. We can have multiple side-chains all pegged on the base layer serving various use cases. RSK will be used for deterministic contracts, Liquid will be used for high value fast transactions between exchanges and import/export companies, Lightning Network can be used for everyday coffee payments, Coinbase and other similar Bitcoin banks can handle payrolls.

This system will allow Bitcoin to be stay fully decentralized and thus valuable as a safe haven against centralized systems, yet it will also allow for millions of transactions a second, and a very good user experience with instant virtually free transactions. If this happens we won't be counting in Bitcoins anymore, people will be counting in Satoshi as they will be easier to handle. In other words Bitcoin will appreciate beyond anyone's dreams.

You can even buy a new house as long as the you and the seller had the agreement. In US, BitPay has handled other real estate transactions, including a Lake Tahoe properties i believe.

The crytocurrencies are more convenient than the flat currencies and the big plus you are avoiding bank institutions. The privacy of paying with cryptocurrencies can be as a pron so a con. The transactions are more secure but they are hard to track down. In my opinion, cryptocurencies are the future and soon the main method of payment will be by them.

Here in our country, there are few stores who are accepting bitcoin as an alternative for payment options aside from fiat, credit cards, through banks, or debit cards, though even they have this, I think there are only few people who are using it as a payment method. I guess bitcoin is not ready yet for public adaptation, there is a lot whereabouts that the public need to know before making this a success.

I think cryptocurrency will be an alternate payment option but not very soon.

The crypto currency is now used as an alternate paymet. And if you are not aware Crypto Currency/Bitcoin is used to pay bills and in online stores now . But it's not that popular yet, Because only 10 million of the 7.5 billion people in the world know or hold BTC. So it may take some time before it becomes a major alternate payment like credit cards.

For sure ! While cryptocurrency as a payment method isn’t mainstream quite yet, businesses large and small now contemplate getting into crypto or implementing blockchain technology into their operations. A number of well-known companies already accept or have previously accepted cryptocurrencies, such as Microsoft, Virgin, Expedia, Subway, T-Mobile Poland, OKCupid and Newegg. According to CoinMap, over 13,000 stores across the world welcome crypto as a payment method. Read more about in Cryptoknowmics.

Though many Asian countries are already accepting cryptos as a payment option. But I doubt that will translate crypto as an alternate payment option globally. There are many reasons to that such as security concerns, high volatility, lack of awareness, lack of digital illiteracy etc etc. Also, many countries are pretty conservative when it comes to decentralized monetary system. Also, with giants accepting it as a payment option there is no other need to prove its authenticity.

Although there are still reluctant to use cryptocurrencies since the price is unstable so, it might took a while for the companies to join the hype train.

With the gradual increase in adoption, I trust most of the companies here will integrate cryptocurrency into payment methods.

They have a special app for making payments using cryptucurrency, so not all wallets support the system. Here regarding payment, the owner must understand how the transactions of digital currency work, so for small and medium businesses will have difficulty with payment options with digital currency, but at least as an alternative payment has been reached and I'm sure all users of this forum have cryptocurrency in their assets. In the business, payment features become an interesting view, because we know that technology is advancing, systems such as cash are rarely used because of e-money or e-wallet, we will see whether digital currency will be an option for future businesses.

Absolutely yes, it is much easier and no hassle at all. I totally agree for cryptocurrency to be an alternate option for making a payment since it can make the transaction much faster.

And i think only some of the cryprocurrency will be accepted even though there's a lot of it.
With the fact that we are started to used it already, it is clear that crypto(esp. Bitcoin) will serves as it purpose. It just wondering why people take this a purely an investment but it actually consider as a currency by then.

People will surely be prepared for this since of hassles free and fast transactions confirmation.

Yes it will be an alternative payment option because it can never be the main option.
Though we know that crypto is more efficient compared to other digital payment and the fiat system but no government would allow to destroy their own creation to give way for crypto which is more transparent to the people.

The world is corrupt, every government has their own agenda, that's why as long as they sit, its their agenda that will be serve first before anything else.

It is still very difficult for business structures to switch to the use of cryptocurrency, and so far I do not see any particular prospects in this matter. There are two problems here - the price volatility of the cryptocurrency and the complexity of the practical application of tax reporting. Currently, tax reporting for legal entities is provided by banking services to business structures of all forms of ownership. Banks issue the necessary documents for the tax authorities and the audit, evidencing the details of the financial and economic activities of legal entities. It will be very difficult to do or even impossible if legal entities switch to the use of cryptocurrency.
At the same time, for individuals, I do not see any problems in using cryptocurrency as a means of payment. Now there are a lot of different forms of sharing cryptocurrency and regular currency in the form of payment bank cards, which are very convenient in practice.

It started as a currency, became a bigger store of value than traditional ones like Gold and Silver, so more people started buying it and inflated the price. That with the deflationary supply people are trying to their hands on a couple or more bitcoins every now and then. So it became an investment and it is the reason why so many exchange came up with bitcoin as currency.

Crypto poses a serious risk if it is used as an alternative payment for service or product payment. Price volatility is one of these so the seller may not get the right price for the product he sells. And another is no refund if you send the crypto currency. So if you send your crypto currency to the wrong person you will not be able to recover it immediately.

Actually, the advantage of cryptocurrency payment might be used negatively, one example that I think about it is that the mode of payment for e-commerce that most people choose in our country is cash on delivery payment, this is to ensure that the product will arrive surely, since the buyer will pay once he/she has the item in his hands. With cryptocurrency, we might want to pay ahead for the product not considering the item if it will surely arrive on not.

But the point is that cryptocurrency is being recognized in different countries having their own technology that is blockchain-based making every transaction faster ad safer than ever before, I could believe that in the future it may happen that cryptocurrency is being used as a worldwide currency. It is the best in terms of many features like payment method and al a source of income.

I was using bitcoin though since 2016. Implementing bitcoin as a payment option on the following giants such as Starbucks, Nordstrom, Whole Foods, and AT&T would help promote bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as well. Once they implemented bitcoin as a payment option many companies including their competitors would start implementing bitcoin too. now be an alternative payment option. I hope in the future companies are increasingly accepting payments with cryptocurrency, especially
I expect a large marketplace in the world can accept payments with cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency is rather a work in progress,of course its development and adoption is at the early stages, but give it time,it looks promising and projects itself as an alternative payment option.

Its main purpose at the moment is to make an alternative to payment especially if you don't have cash on hand, but for now, what's happening is they are not spending it as crypto has the potential for the price to rise so they are treating it as investment instead of spending.

Crytpocurrency will definitely be a future alternate payment option. But I doubt decentralized currencies would be given that much freedom. Every country and bank are expected to come up with their domestic cryptocurrency which will be centralized and central bank will have control over that. That would be accepted as a legal tender. Decentralized currencies may exist with them but they will be heavily regulated or banned in some countries.

It is very likely that cryptocurrency will be an alternative payment but only as an alternative and not completely replace fiat currencies, and maybe in the future there will be many shops or sellers that provide payments using cryptocurrency and fiat currencies too.
cryptocurrency especially bitcoin will be more effective as an alternative to gold. It is a store of value, a store of speculative value, like gold.

As far as I know some of the countries already started taking payment in Bitcoin. So, obviously there is a trend of using cryptocurrencies as an alternative method of traditional payment. I think this article will clear all of our notion that most of countries started taking payment in bitcoin https://all-stocks.net/australias-origin-kebabs-enables-crypto-payments-in-talks-with-coca-cola-to-boost-credibility-of-cryptocurrency/

There is a country who legalize Bitcoin already and it is Japan and is adapted massively as another mode of payment and you can even pay an airline ticket there through Bitcoin. Also, in our country you can pay for your electric bills, water, loans and other bills with either your fiat, Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies that are available.

Cryptocurrency's adoption is now being enormously done it is not surprising because cryptocurrency is really very advantageous and convenient to use especially for people whose schedule is really hectic. The acceptance of the society with bitcoin being a payment method have been seen in various institutions and businesses, not only in the giants like starbucks, Nordstrom and everything mentioned above, but also in small scale businesses like small tech store. Even in developing countries like Philippines,, cryptocurrency is widely accepted as payment option. All in all, cryptocyrrency has a high possibility of being a payment option cause at this moment it's actually alternative, but it can't still replace fiat.

Well, everyone has been talking about cryptocurrency being the future money that everyone will be using all over the world so there's a possibility that it might occur someday. Large companies are already collaborating with the use of it which can indicate that it is very near. Take your investment as something that makes you ready if ever that happens and not just a normal investment which is the goal is to make money out of it. The world is changing and advancing so it would be better if you are set ready for the changes that may happen in the future.

Oh, I must admit you are very optimistic))))) of course I believe in the brightest future of crypto, but I am afraid that mass adoption will not come very soon. Of course there are services that already try to use crypto for payments and so on. I even saw on the clothing market market in my city such a nameplate - "you may pay in crypto")))) it was really funny to see something like that there in that place)))) but still fees for transactions and lots of nuances hold people back from using crypto in ordinary life...of course I have some assets in crypto and believe that some day this will be the means like may be some other money...the question is that it is more likely that it will not happen very soon...

Many payment integration application started their investment on fiat based international transaction possiblities. I am not sure how much this can work with the Bitcoin payment mode. There are people here also having some payment app and they aren't made the big impression towards us.

I also think it will be difficult to implement the bitcoin payment method because people still use crypto as an investment and to make their payment transactions using Fiat. so it took a long time to change the fiat payment method with crypto

Yes, I strongly believe that crypto is the next-generation payment option. Already, it's gaining foothold and popularity amongst the younger generation due to its largely anonymous nature of transaction, low transaction costs and speed. All in all, cryptocurrency is set to fully enter mainstream, it's just a matter of time.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have long been alternative payment options. Since 2014 I received bitcoin as payment at my clothing store because I like modern payment systems like this.

Cryptocurrency is already an alternate payment option. Cryptocurrency can be used for all your daily spending habits simply by using innovative technology like Tap.Globals' (https://www.tap.global) prepaid Mastercard.  Cards like these allow you to spend your cryptocurrency without having to convert it to fiat.

Why not? May be somebody says "Nope, is is impossible to imagine that I will to pay in a store, on a gas station or even in a village by using cryptocurrencies" but I admit that it is possible. Anyway I am realist I know that there are a lot of unsolved problems. The fact is that crypto technologies outpace the current society state. What does it mean? It means that crypto technologies will come to our usual life just in time when we are ready.
Well in the furst place bitcoin is intended to be a replacement or in this case an alternate for fiat currency so it should not come as a surprise that bitcoin is used for commerce and purchase. This is a great step to innovation and hopefully if all things go right, bitcoin will be able to dominate the currency industry and in the end become the new form of money Satoshi Nakamoto intended it to be.

There are already so many places where u can use cryptocurrencies as payment option therefore ofc where the soon is now.

Is some places you can only use cryptocurrencies. But due to not 100% of the population knowing what cryptocurrencies are they still have to make all other payment options available.

In the future i am sure something like this will happen as globaly and uniquely without fiat at all.
Even after a total fiat system collapse.

Yes, cryptocurrency is already an alternative currency since we could already use it in some stores online and even in some physical store you could also use bitcoin as an alternative currency. But still the number of stores or even online that is accepting bitcoin was just so little so I guess we need a lot more time for the bitcoin to influence a lot of big companies to make them it an asset or a method of payment. I think bitcoin and some popular altcoins in the market is the only cryptocurrency that is going to be recognized by big companies as an asset since there are so many altcoins in the market that has no value at all.

Agree bitcoin still needs a lot of time to completely influence a lot of places in the world also not all of the people are expose to technology like this bitcoin most of the time they are just aware of the traditional money.

I think cryptocurrency being use as payment for services, that does not use P2P process doesn't benefit it at all, because when you pay for example Bitcoin once you pay BTC for a product it will be then be converted to fiat currency and why it's really bad is because BTC is known for its limited supply, so if people keeps using it and converting it to cash, will probably bring end to that crypto currency.

Some of you people are putting the cart before the horse. The Lightning Network is still in its infancy and the scalability problem is not yet resolved. As soon as we have made progress such that the leading blockchains can handle thousands of transactions at a time, then, maybe then will we be able to talk about mass adoption.

Can not say soon but it will be in future,Cryptocurrency lovers now mainly use crypto as alternate option where they can access. In future cryptocurency will not be alternate option but first medium of exchange. Cryptocurrency is big innovation of the century and growing rapidly just need to create awareness in people.

Cryptocurrency is big threat for traditional banks and the government so still need to sort out the things and create ways use cryptocurrency legally. This is reason it will take a long time to be legal and access of common people.
