You can only merit if you have sMerits to spend.

You get 1 sMerit for every 2 merits you receive. Thus, you need to receive merit to be able to merit someone.

How can I merit and how to send?
First of all you need to earn merits, only those can earn merits whose posts are positive, good and helpful.
Here is the Announcement thread of Merit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

When you receive 2 Merits then you get 1sMerits it means for every 1 Merit you receive you will get 0.5 merits but you can send only 1 Merit (minimum) to one person.
You can not send merit your yourself.

On how to send merits:

Click on merit button given on every post (even on yours, but you are not able to send yourself) new tab will be open now enter the amount of merits which you want to send that's all.

Do not do following things to earn more merits:
Never ask anyone to give you merits.
Never purchase merits.

I would like to advise you to visit this thread as people already discussed about it so many times. You can use search option or spend time on reading before asking a question.

The merit button will be visible only if the person has atleast one sMerit to send that is why OP not aware of that sending merit.

Your account are too young to get merits. Make possitive post/comments everyday on different threads. You might get some merits if you're lucky😆

This is not true, as far as I can remember, I have seen merit option when I didn't have smerit and when I was a newbie.

Members who have never obtained merit cannot see the merit button near the quote button.
You can try to prove it by using a new account.

I still don't understand why this article has merits. I find it nothing but a question? And I know people who want to get merits, they know how to get merits.

However, I think this is the best answer to this article's question.

And I hope someone can help me explain that "why does he receive merit? Is this unfair?"

There is nothing unfair, in giving the newbie a few merits. Merit system was introduced with main goal to curtail shitty posts because of the signature campaigns, not to curtail the growth of the community members. A forum is place where a group of people share their knowledge. So anyone is free to contribute to the forum.

I think Ognasty gave fantasticbaby2605, as a welcome gift to the forum. That doesn't mean that he should give every newbie a few merits. Like it's informed in the forum. Just make your valid contribution to the forum and the forum will give you merits in due time.
