It feels great in my hand. I have in my possession, a lovely Recalescence Bitcoin (00189 of 200), with its intact security seal which holds the private key to 1 BTC. The coin is worth 1 BTC plus $200 USD for the premium 1 oz silver round. I was very happy to store value in this coin but am wishing to part ways with it now. i think your going to need some photos, along with the certificate with the public key that proves its funded.

Its labelled 00189 and looks the same as Recalescence coin photos on google. If you email me I can send a pic of me with it and my user name. I have no certificate. I'm also Mystery or Erik von Markovik the author and tv show host (of VH1's The Pickup Artist), as the photo would show. I have a physical bitcoin and instead of destroying the security seal (its on there good, untampered) and redeeming the bitcoin (and ruining the coin) Ive opted to sell the coin, perhaps to you. I trust the code is under the seal. Quick story: I got the coin from a friend who has many coins (this coin's sister coins). He took the security seal off (you can't put it back on if its torn off) and redeemed his bitcoin. So I trust the whole batch of Recalescence bitcoins are labeled with a good private key. Again, I can't check to make sure its there without destroying the face of the coin. Its really a luxury item. I've carried it to gatherings and had something to show and tell. Back before it was worth the asking price of 1 BTC=$11,274.50+$200 for the silver premium coin. So Im asking for $11474.50 USD for the coin, or 1 btc+$200 (in bitcoin). Prof. DeLusion.

these coins were sold with an accompanying certificate that provided the public key as proof of funding, looks like  you did not get that from your friend with the sale. i would ask your friend for the certificate as will help greatly with your sale. unfortunately this is the only way to verify funding as firstbits are not shown on the hologram.

Some of these were sold DIY right? Is there no difference in an assembled DIY and one that was loaded by the creator?

diy version does not have a hologram, any coin with a hologram is considered funded.

First off, welcome Mystery to the forum  :D 

I am familiar with your TV show and did not know you were into BTC. That's pretty cool. 

My recommendation, since you are looking for such a low premium $200, is to go ahead and peel this coin and redeem it for a full bitcoin (along with bitcoin cash, bitcoin SV, etc), and then sell the peeled coin for $200.    The reason I say that is because you are going to have to find a buyer willing to trust the loaded value of the coin. They will most likely want to escrow the transaction, which adds time and cost to the deal.  It seems like you could save a lot of time and potential headache by avoiding this and getting roughly the same amount in the end.  You should be asking more if you plan to sell it loaded due to the costs involved. 

That's just my advice.  Good luck.  They are nice coins seemingly trustworthy, but are less known than the Casascius coins. The lack of COA is going to really hurt the ability to identify its funds on the blockchain, which is a requirement for most buyers. 

Presuming the private key is under the security seal and I wish to destroy the seal, where do I put that key to redeem the 1 bitcoin? I looked online and the procedure is thwarting me. Would I commandeer your mind for a moment to work this out with me?

I so far downloaded a couple wallet apps onto my iPhone but they don't accept a key (only a scanned QR code). how do I redeem a physical bitcoin when I don't get a QR code but rather a mini private key?

There are different ways to go about it, here are at least a few options that come to mind:

1) Download a trusted application that can generate QR codes from any text. For Mac, I use "QR Factory". You can then input the mini private key into the QR generating app, and from there scan it into a wallet with "Import Private Key" feature, such as the "BRD" app.

2) You forego that QR generation step by using Electrum. Be sure to only download from electrum.org, as there are many malware-variants out there. If you already have an old version of Electrum installed, DELETE, then reinstall the new one. Older versions have security risks. With Electrum, you can simply enter in that mini private key to access the wallet (and transfer from there).


Edit: After sweeping your BTC balance, you would then proceed to claim all of the forks. Similar process, but with whatever software is available for that fork. I don't have any recommendations for this unfortunately. You want to be sure to claim your BTC first, and transfer it to a different account, since the forks and their software likely come with more security risks.

I downloaded the BRD app and got acquainted with it's QR scanning function.
I downloaded QR Factory and got aquatinted with the free trial ($24 CAD).
Would this site http://goqr.me not provide the same QR code?
I would enter the private key text into http://goqr.me and use BRD to capture it from my screen.
Do you have high confidence that would work? Id hate to peal off the hologram sticker and be stumped not knowing what to do with the code to redeem.

Don't enter your private key into any online QR code software.  Get the official wallet from electrum.org and enter private keys on a clean laptop/PC.  Or use a trusted bitcoin mobile for android/ios that allows you to enter a plain text private key (they exist, try mycelium or greenaddress). 

I would stay away from the Mycelium ios app.  It's very buggy atm and having issues with withdrawing funds as well as viewing transactions (crashes every time you click transactions).

I would trust bitaddress.org over any QR code generator. You should be able to complete the mouse move/type thing to 100% and then go to Wallet Details, enter in the private key there and it will generate a QR code for you. You should be able to "save page as" onto your hard drive and then unplug your internet connection to complete this aswell. Then sweep the bitcoin onto your phone/hardware wallet.

*I trusted this website in 2015/16 but am unsure if anything has changed security wise. Careful typing in the address, I believe there is a phishing site that only uses one D.

By completing the mouse movement randomizer it will create you a wallet in the Single Wallet tab, you can then copy and paste that private key into the private key section in the Wallet Details tab to give you an idea of what it will provide to you. Try scanning it with your BRD wallet and see if when you import the empty private key it matches with the public key.. always experiment and get used to performing actions like this before you jump into a 1BTC transaction. Also set an appropriate miner fee, a lot of the phone wallets have ridiculous estimates.. I have been using 3sats/byte and having it confirm in ~8hours lately.

Using electrum, create a new wallet using private key.  Or, if you already have a wallet, you can import or sweep a new private key.  Note: When spending this coin, always send the full balance to a new address that you control.  Don't let any change come back to the coin (look up youtube video on how change works on paper wallets if you are confused). 

Agree...if you don't take out the full balance of the paper wallet the rest will be lost.

Have you installed and have Electrum working on your Mac? If so you should have a default wallet with a balance of zero. I am a PC guy, not Mac but I assume the interface for Electrum is the same. You would just open Electrum and sweep the private key as explained at https://bitcoinelectrum.com/sweeping-your-private-keys-into-electrum/

Take your time, you don't want to make a mistake. If you get stuck at any point post a screenshot or ask a question here.

OK so it appears to be pretty straight forward.

1. download the Electrum.org wallet.
2. peel off the sticker.
3. Click Wallet, Private Keys, SWEEP.
4. Enter the code from the sticker.
5. SWEEP the bitcoin into your Electrum wallet.
6. move the funds to your preferred wallet.

Does this sound like the basic procedure?

Still, the coin is beautiful. I'd hate to redeem it (wreck the coin) even though the procedure is straight forward. Still looking for a good home for this coin.

Once you get the bitcoin off you'll also have bitcoin cash abc/sv and bitcoin gold to retrieve aswell.

First download the Electrum wallet from https://electrum.org/#home install on your Mac and confirm you have a working installation of Electrum. Then you just follow the instructions from the link I posted earlier (https://bitcoinelectrum.com/sweeping-your-private-keys-into-electrum/) to sweep the private key from your Recalescence coin. You will have to type in the private key. When you sweep into Electrum all the bitcoin will be sent to an address in your Electrum wallet as a transaction so make sure you have Electrum set to use the appropriate fee. I would set the fee slider all the way to the right to make sure your transaction is confirmed quickly. You can then leave the bitcoin in Electrum or send to an exchange or another wallet.

Note I have not done this in ages so I can not confirm if Electrum will subtract the fees from your swept bitcoin. You might need to send enough bitcoin to your Electrum wallet first to cover the fee for the transaction. Some one jump in and answer this please.

Once you have your bitcoin safe at an address in Electrum you can store or send to an exchange or Coinbase to cash out if that is your intent. I have ignored claiming any Bitcoin Cash from your private keys (worth about 0.06 bitcoin I believe) to keep things simple. Someone else chime in on claiming the BCH.

Yes this is a pain to do which is one reason most of us don't redeem loaded coins, just sell them, but you have a special situation.

Yes, you got it! QR method is easier in my opinion, but there is that reliance on the QR Generator software (which in my determination is safe - a malicious app would have to INSTANTLY sweep it. Electrum method is vulnerable in a different way, and that would be if you had a keylogger installed that could instantly sweep.)

Also, you could take your PC offline while you generate QR, nearly ensuring you don’t have to worry. You can’t do this with Electrum since it needs to broadcast that sweeping transaction, whereas with QR method your computer can be offline and your phone/mobile app is still connected to Internet  to scan QR and broadcast transaction.
You don’t have to worry about fee calculation or anything since the app’s easier UI takes care of all of that for you.

The coin is probably fully funded. However on this board I think you will have a hard time selling without the certificate which has the public key and an identical hologram with the same serial number as on the coin. Might be wrong, but if there are no takers you now know how to get the bitcoin off the coin. GLWS!

$200 for the coin is fine since there is no CoA. You should take into account that the BCH that the coin also has is worth $420 USD. If you sold your coin for 1BTC + $200 USD someone would be making an easy $200+

I agree, that this coin would be worth more if It would have had a coa that confirmed the pub key (but I assume you don't have this?)

Can you explain? Once I sweep the private sticker code of its bitcoin, that code is spent. what other cryptos are involved and why?

The main fork happened August 1, 2017. Every address before that that contained bitcoin now also contain 1 bitcoin cash. Since your coin is pre August 1, 2017 the private key will also unlock 1 BCH on the bitcoin cash blockchain. It is most important to sweep the bitcoin first as you are now putting yourself into an attack vector area because the coin's private key is now potentially vulnerable.

minerjones is correct that the Coinomi wallet is the easiest way to get the various bitcoin forks.. mainly bitcoin cash abc, bitcoin cash sv, and bitcoin gold. There are multiple multiple forks but those are the top few that are worth a few bucks.

Prof, if you could get the COA from the original owner I suspect you could sell this coin for 1.2+ btc.  Without the COA best bet, imo  is to peel the hologram and first redeem the btc then deal with the shit forks as discussed above.  Peel value probably 1.06 and a cunt hair more.  Then you can either keep the peeled coin as a souvenir or auction for maybe 2-300 usd in btc here.
