Here is a story of a vlogger and co-host youtube Australian woman (Jailde Barclay) who actually travels 7 countries and 16 diferent cities alone using only cryptocurrency. If we are asking how did she know those countries she went to, accepted crypto payments, with the power of "google" it is very possible.

She attended at London for London Blockchain week and since she never uses her digital assets before, it is a big challenge for her to spend it now without using cash.

Her 12-weeks challenge spending crypto paying hotels, restaurants and shoppings is really difficult because bitcoin is bullish at the moment she is travelling.

This is also my dream, to travel and see how possible to spend cryptocurrency in my journey as well, if not in outside the country I would like to spend it at least here jn our country. The works of bitcoin payments indicates that it is started to grow, started to adopt well by many. I can see the future aheads with it. This woman proves that despite of the volatility of the market, she took the risks to not to HODL but to spend it.

I will leave here the  link  (https://www.google.com.ph/amp/s/www.newsbtc.com/2019/07/06/australian-woman-travels-to-ten-countries-in-12-weeks-on-cryptocurrency-alone/amp/) for the article and her youtube video is also there. It's exciting and amazing to watch her travel using crypto payments only.

This is interesting but the YouTube videos are so little. She can motivate people to do that by uploading those but she did not do that. I don't even know if this is legit true or not.

How it is a risk to use Bitcoin. Is it safer to hold? Isn't Bitcoin supposed to be currency and payment mean? Not everyone is holding their bitcoins. Many use it a lot to buy kinds of stuff, pay bills, whatever,

This lady is just trying to get the fame lol. And she googled before? not once she's in the country? :D What a challenge

But what about booking tickets online ?

Maybe she was lucky that her country and the countries she was travelling to were actually receiving the payments in cryptocurrencies.

If one would travel in a developing country like India , one would only be able to maybe buy a coffee using it , same is the condition with ukraine.

Unfortunately she would have suffered a huge loss actually because of the volatility in the few months now .

I am glad that this lady is have a good time traveling around the world and spending bitcoin (maybe some other crypto also?), and that she managed to survive swimming with sharks (more then once) :)

I do not know why problem for her was fact that bitcoin is going up with price, logically it would be just the opposite - you can get more in value of fiat when price of bitcoin is $10k instead $5k. If she spend for example $1000 in one country (probably more), this is around 0.08 BTC. But if she start this challenge 3 months ago that amount of fiat was worth around 0.24 BTC, so where is problem in fact that price is almost 3 times up? You can buy more for less coins, and because of that people buy at low price and sell at high, or they spend bitcoin directly.

The problem here is that physiologically it feels like killing the goose that lays golden eggs - it's great that your coins are worth 3 times more than a few months ago, but they will likely be worth even more in the near future, so she is experiencing a fear of missing out. It's a practical case of well-known criticism of deflationary currency, that says that no one will want to spend it. But the fact that she did spend it, despite the regrets, shows that people can value the present more than the future, and the hoarding is not absolute.

Slowly but surely, it is now quite possible to rely only on Bitcoin as your currency to enjoy the whole world. There are now many merchants or business firms accepting Bitcoin as mode of payments and of course we just use Google for help in locating these shops. Do we already have a clear-cut and easy directory of these business outfits accepting Bitcoin and even other cryptocurrencies worldwide...that can be of big help rather than just rely on Google too much (though it is quite powerful too). Now we can say that travel = bitcoin (or is it the other way around?) for sure. The bigger challenge for me actually is saving more bitcoin so that 5 years from now when the price can be hitting millions (am I dreaming for this?) then I can use mine to travel to exotic countries. Wanna travel with me, guys?

This could be easier if there's a traveling agency which accepting crypto currency so that you haven't encounter problems during the tour but anyway there's no problem mentioned during the tour , and it would be more appreciable if we can view more videos in every country .

Great thing she did her homework on countries that are cryptocurrency welcoming she could have been stranded at some point though.
Traveling is part of my hobbies and cryptocurrency has become a darling to me as well so combining the two for a good course would be a complete climax for me

That's amazing though but quite hard if you aren't techy enough to search those important applications.

I think she has its main bitcoin wallet on her phone then installing the local wallet of each country. She will just easily convert it to fiat after installing the local wallet and will get a transaction. Most of the people are accepting payments through online wallets now even here so I think it's possible.

The countries she went through were the ones with developed economies and of course the adoption of crypto would not be too difficult. For me this is  not an exciting challenge.   ;)

According to me, to complete the challenge, it depends on where she goes, if she goes to some Asian countries, she will have difficulty using cryptocurrency.

Agree because she could have not be able to visit my country due to their inability to accept cryptocurrency as.payment. method. Although, it's not illegal but not legal, use as or at your discretion. The most challenge in my country in respect to accept cryptocurrency is they still looked at it as svam, hope they realizes the potentials in cryptocurrency.

This is an adventurous way to check the extent on adoption of Bitcoin as a currency. Although due to it's high volatility, majority of people hold it for it's huge ability to grow and not as a means of exchange and hence they'd be less willing to spend their bitcoins as a means of payment for daily necessities.
This also shows that there are women in the cryptocurrency space.

i think there are a number of us who wish to do something like this but the only problem with this kind of plan is that the world is not yet ready for it! we talk about spending bitcoin but unfortunately there aren't enough places that are accepting bitcoin payments, in some countries it is even harder to find such places not to mention that for instance the hotel that accepts bitcoin may not be to your liking.

Her 12-weeks challenge spending crypto paying hotels, restaurants and shoppings is really difficult because bitcoin is bullish at the moment she is travelling.

the exact opposite is actually true!
for example imagine you take $1000 worth of bitcoin for your travel and then bitcoin becomes bullish and your $1000 is not worth $1500. how does that make anything "difficult"?

Hahahahahah
So greed took the better of her.
Common, this is really funny!

Imagine the guy from Mercedes before running a crash test:
- this is the first car of its kind, we could sell it for a few million to a collector!!! Let's not crash it!

But I really understand her, I mean it's so f** difficult to:
Spend coins and with the extra fiat you have because you didn't spend it buy bitcoins and top up your stash again.
And if you don't have enough fiat to cover a trip, why the hell did you start it in the first place? Just to become a yt celebrity? Meh!!!!!

This is a very inspiring story. A female traveler is not a very common thing, but traveling without using fiat - WOW! I didn't even think it was possible already. I do suspect that it's way more expensive than if you chose fiat, though. For one, Bitcoin fees are very significant these days. Apart from that, I bet you don't have many options if you want to use Bitcoin, and lack of options means lack of competition and thus potentially high prices. And I'm also wondering whether she managed to pay for literally everything with BTC, by the way. Like, what about transport around the city as well as from one country to another? And what about wanting to buy a bottle of water is a small shop kind of situation?

I wonder how is it difficult for the vlogger to spend Bitcoin becaust it is surging?    I can't see the relationship in there except the vlogger does not want to spend BTC.   But if she did not want to use it, why does she do this kind of challenge?  ???.

Anyway, the success of this challenge simply means Bitcoin is really a mode of payment.  This simply shows those people who keep on saying that Bitcoin is worthless that they are wrong.  Bitcoin have an intrinsic value and it was shown by this challenge.  You cannot use anything that is worthless to pay for a hotel accomodation, foods, transportation etc.  So from here, I think Bitcoin had established itself as a mode of payment.

There is nothing amazing and exciting in this "challenge" if we can even call it that way. It's like travel in countries with money, not huge difference especially if we consider the fact that she had chosen these countries and knew where to hire hotels with crypto, where were shops and etc which were accepting cryptos. Even the statistics of those videos shows that it meant almost nothing in people.
Challenge will be if she go in countries where bitcoin isn't accepted and find some ways to somehow find people who will wish to get bitcoin.

Well, it takes time before a vlogger upload a video one after the other. It takes time to edit, which to include and to exclude and other stuffs. I'm not a vlogger or anything but I have done simple video editing before and it took me several days to come up with the video that is good enough. My point is, let's not pressure her though. Just saying. ;D

Anyway, that was an interesting journey using only crypto. Thanks to Google for allowing her to know the countries open to crypto. Hope I can do that too in the near future. Guess this will trigger other crypto users who also want to travel.

And hoping someday i do that also in my own to travel using crypto currency to show to all people didn't believe the capability of crypto currency as new form of many use in a different country.

Before the trip, Barclay claims she had never “had never actually purchased anything with” her cryptocurrency, but through her interest in the digital asset class and through her love for travel and passion for learning more, she decided to challenge herself and see if she could “live on crypto” throughout her travels.
So that's why she said that spending is hard.
Quote
Spending Crypto is Hard Because HODL, Not Because You Can’t

Quote
Towards the end of her 12-week challenge, though, Barclay admits that she stopped spending as much of her crypto holdings because the price of Bitcoin was going up so much towards the end of her journey. Despite curbing her own spending due to the HODL effect, Barclay does believe that each passing year “we will see more and more places accepting it and more people knowing what it is,” and that as the “market matures and prices become less volatile, more people will start spending it.”
Yeah, sure. But you won't even spend them anymore because of the "HODL effect".
Look, I'm not saying that it is a bad thing to keep on HODL-ing. For the matter of fact, it is actually what we should do. HODL. But that doesn't mean we have to be crazy about it. It doesn't mean we have to stay away from spending our coins just to keep on this philosophical perspective. Especially if you made a 12-week on spending Bitcoin. It just doesn't suit with the idea of the project itself in the first place. To be honest, I'm quite impressed by the method she was using to find all the Bitcoin-accepted places along the way. Like seriously! How could you possibly manage to survive on this time of the year just with cryptocurrencies in your hand?

Although you can search information on google, it's still quite hard to do it in real life. Imagine, everything you'll spend are through bitcoin. An applause foe her for finishing her challenge. But I was wondering about her transpo, if she's also using crypto for travelling from different cities?
But regardless of that, it's still amazing that she was able to finish her challenge. And just like to what she said “we will see more and more places accepting it and more people knowing what it is,” I'm also looking forward to the time where more businesses will accept crypto as a payment because it'll also help to increase the recognition of bitcoin.

Well, it is not the first time that this has been done and I also know about people who sold their house to buy bitcoins and when the price skyrocketed in 2017, they sold more than 80% of their coins and made a huge profit. They then used that profit to travel around the world.

Some people do this, but they still had to use a credit card or cash in some countries, because they could not find Bitcoin merchants that accepted Bitcoin as a payment option.

The crux of the matter is, that it is becoming easier to travel the globe with only using Bitcoin as a payment option.  ;)

Is there a way to verify that she's actually paying with bitcoin for all the goods and services that she gets?
Maybe sharing transaction IDs or posting some screenshots to her wallet. This still isn't trustworthy, but there must be a way to verify the purchases. ;D

You are wrong about India as their is no shop or place where you can do cryptocurrency transaction apart from converting to fiat currency. Even now India have banned the cryptocurrency usage so it is not possible to use cryptocurrency in Asian country's. I think she has mostly travelled in America and Europe country where only it is possible to do anything through crypto currency.

This is a clear picture of the world getting into cryptocurrencies. This goes to show that crypto is now ready to take over the role which was once held by fiat. And it is possible. However, the problem is that there are still isolated spots which might be very hard for crypto to reach. There are countries that are really very tight against crypto. Not to mention some countries that are really left out by advancing technologies.

Well that's demanding a bit too much, after all, we strive for privacy here but I'm on the same page as you
To me, this looks like a publicity stunt and the way she abandoned her quest hints as money being her only objective for this so-called adventure.

Also, I checked her videos and a few places she uses 3rd party payment processors, so it's not actually paying with crypto, I could do the same basically by using my Wirex card:)
I spend crypto the merchant gets fiat.

And never trust youtubers, I remember how some channel that was building huts or pools with "primitive" technology was caught using excavators and power tools to actually doing their job.
I would believe more the story from China, when that girl was not able to get some food and she filmed herself eating leftovers. Everyone can make a pretty face while faking something, look at what I was able to do, but too actually humiliate yourself in a way that doesn't serve your goal, there is no reason to fake it.

Her 12-weeks challenge spending crypto paying hotels, restaurants and shoppings is really difficult because bitcoin is bullish at the moment she is travelling.
You never expect every place to accept bitcoin at this point but she can find places where bitcoin is accepted but i am not sure what you mean by the difficulty she is going through because of the bullish trend  ???. If a merchant accepts bitcoin what is the difficult if the market trend is bullish  ::).
The only difficulty will be finding more places where you can spend your coins, i will not take up a challenge like that if i am travelling as i need to relax and enjoy the ride rather than straining myself while travelling, it is a good publicity stunt by that lady  ;D.

This is possible as long as the places that she visits are all accepting Bitcoin payments. I think she planned well her travels and expenses as it is unwise that you will just tour any places directly with just depending on Bitcoin only for all of your future expenses on the road.

But this is some good encouragement for cryptonians specially Bitcoiners who’s expecting this kind of luxurious activities in future using their digital assets
And ofcourse my dream as well since when everyone I wanna spend my crypto for traveling,I need to convert to fiat first before spending

I think this is a great story. I am happy for her, this is a very good experience. She gained knowledge about bitcoins and cryptocurrency, and also made an interesting journey. I would also like to make such a journey

It's possible but risky, you have to be educated and well acquainted on the country or city that you are going to visit if they Cryptocurrency friendly, of course, Google can help but you need more reliable sources like a friend who is also into Cryptocurrency  from that country so he can tell you if you can use and where to use your Cryptocurrency.

It's a risk, yes, and even if country is cryptocurrency friendly that still doesn't mean you can use crypto for everything you want. We all know how limited is the number and variety of goods and services that could be bought with cryptocurrencies.
The only solution for that to my opinion is crypto debit card. Is not direct use of cryptocurrencies but it's the only way you can be sure you could use them everywhere you want.

An excellent story, which shows that it is possible to travel and perform multiple transactions with cryptocurrencies, of course, for now this is only possible in certain countries where acceptance is considerable, but still a great challenge, there is much to be done so that more companies accept cryptocurrencies.

It much better if you have known someone from that particular place who already have experiences using crypto so it's not hard to find where to use it or exchange it into fiat just in case, this adventure is challenging if you'll perform it without any good knowledge to whatever place you are heading and you don't have any ideas if the place is already accepting crypto.

This is a real test for a real cryptocurrency fan :) I think it was not always easy to find a place where they accept payment in the form of cryptocurrency. I can only be glad for this girl or woman ;) 8)

Well, the good thing about her experience is that she was able to travel around the world with just Bitcoin/cryptocurrency... which is part of what makes Bitcoin great. I guess she wouldn't have done that easily with fiat.

I understand her frustration about volatility but she needs to understand that it is part of the feature... It is part of what makes Bitcoin unique. When you really need to buy something with bitcoin you wouldn't worry about volatility, in my opinion.
I think we should work towards moderate volatility instead

Sooner it would be like the movie of Jackie Chan's 80 days around the world, most of the countries would be accepting crypto for sure in terms of payments, tickets to food and accommodation. You will have nothing to worry about, only your PK or your phone is enough to cover your travel expenses.

Although traveling using crypto existed already but the real challenge is how are you going to spend your crypto when you are inside in the said country. I believe the lady uses a credit card or something to pay the services especially in booking a hotel for a night. But with the surging price of Bitcoin, she still thinks that it would be a waste to spend it when in fact most people don't know her YT channel but thankfully to these articles she might be fishing some future crypto enthusiasts.

That is great of the woman. She is living the dream. I keep spending my cryptocurrency instead of always holding to expect some profit, I realize it's a currency and I need to spend it otherwise I may starve myself and my family of necessity. It's the frequent usage that gives it its needed value.

And she googled before? not once she's in the country? :D What a challenge
What is wrong with planning ahead? Every traveler does that.

Is called sarcasm.
She described an activity a 6yo could do it as some achievement.
Look at me ...I can google!!!!!

Her fame will be good for bitcoin adoption. What's wrong with wanting to be famous? At least she goes out of the house.

Nobody likes attention whores!

it seems that bitcoin is something that is in the rock bottom and that then needs an advertising campaign. Eventually all the countries of the world will accept bitcoin as a means of payment, we do not need to be doing this type of advertising

Nope, Bitcoin is ok and hasn't reached anything.

The problem is with all the morons that have flocked to it and they do everything for attention, to make every usual thing look like a miracle, trying in an evey way no matter how ridiculous to pump bitcoin to the point that is becoming so damn annoying. Check the DB article (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5162818.new) in the press section as an example of how low users can get.

But there is a new trend I start to sens and I really like it.
Old guys who have been for a while in BTC are starting to laugh at all those attempts and only noobs who have to make their daily quota are posting wow, great, such much wow, bow wow, lols.

Sounds like a fairytale, but if it's true I'm happy for her and btc current adoption :) we can do better!

This has nothing to do with the fairy tale. It's all about where he went. Especially in most Asian countries it is possible to pay with crypto in many places.

I will not try what she did because I am not sure that I can travel to different countries using cryptocurrency only. It is not easy to find a local store or the other store that accepting cryptocurrency even if we are stopping by in the Asian countries. But if our destination in the country which accepting cryptocurrency, I guess we can go to that country and spend our cryptocurrency to buy anything. For me, it is better to exchange cryptocurrency into cash first so we can go travel to the other countries and enjoy our time. But that is a challenge for people who wants to use cryptocurrency and they are curious about how to use cryptocurrency in different countries.

not many store accept payment with bitcoin, but she can proof that bitcoin is acceptable everywhere. it means they believe that bitcoin is exist now and in the future.
i think its provide in big country or city, i dont know if in small city, but bitcoin member will be more confidence if they want to travel arround the world and use crypto as payment

This is possible as long as the places that she visits are all accepting Bitcoin payments. I think she planned well her travels and expenses as it is unwise that you will just tour any places directly with just depending on Bitcoin only for all of your future expenses on the road.

I heard about the lady who traveled only with and for cryptocurrency. Finally, she was placed into a hospital as she got problems with her health through weight loss. She could not find places often where to use crypto. Pity.

I some kinda agree that she just wanted to get some fame on the internet and crypto world but I also believe what she is doing is cool and also helping to promote Crypto Currencies as a means of payment for traveling in different countries all around the world.
I believed that she googled everything before she started to travel and made a list on what and where to go ranging from hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls that accepts Crypto Currencies to save time and effort.  8)

It is only a waste to spend coins when you don't replace them. Bitcoin has always had a bias to the upside, so you know that replacing spent coins is very important. I'm waiting for exchanges to provide these services because it will help do the work for you in the background. That way you can spend coins without having to worry about missing next weeks rally.

People spending Bitcoin to regret it a month later have themselves to blame for. It's not a unit of account. It's a new type of money with a heavily fluctuating price. You would expect people to have figured that out already, but nope. ::)

if he travels using crypto, he must show that at least he shows us his crypto assets, and he has to record videos when making transactions using crypto.if just talking in a different background, it can make others assume that it is  lies.  I prefer the video of Felix Weis who traveled with Bitcoin for 365 days.  and Felix videos is more perfect.

This is a good story to inspire other people to start collecting and using Cryptos. Its very seldom that we meet people who are actually using Cryptos in their daily lives. Most are just holding them, keeping them until they reach their target and sell. In other words, for investment purposes only. I hope there is a site or a directory where we can spend our Cryptos so it will be easier to find establishments who accepts it.

Traveling the world with Bitcoins is absolutely possible with some prior planning and preparation. There are a lot of countries which legalize it and support its use. The currency is not limited by any government rules, so you don’t even have to focus on getting it converted or transferring it to a particular bank.
However, Bitcoin prices are also a factor of effect. A sudden increment or decrement can change the whole scenario of the travel.
But with some research, you can find the hotel, restaurants, and other spots that support Bitcoin transaction use them for your travel. The travel was a great initiate to show the potential in Bitcoins and proved its worth.

The story of the woman's journey attracted quite a lot of people, especially fans of crypto, but unfortunately she did not give tips on how to spend crypto in each country. We know that not all countries legalize crypto and not all countries have Bitcoin ATMs. Which is still my question, how does he spend it? whether he is only on vacation in a country that legalizes crypto or he holds crypto and pulls it in every country through the bank.

She could also buy things that are valuable while at somewhere that allows crypto payment and she can trade those things when she is in a place that doesn't use crypto. I think that selling what she buys for cash is not allowed so she will have to keep things people want.

If she did able to spend out his crypto into 7 different countries then its clear that bitcoin into that place is considered to legal and hence she wont really tend to travel into a place where she knows that bitcoin/crypto is illegal or she cant find any atms or merchants into that place.

For now i can say that there would be places where we can spent out our crypto but somehow we can still draw exclusions yet these things are not
still adopted on lots of places. It maybe somehow limited but at least we are seeing some progress which is good.
