Title: BTC Unable to transfer
Post by: faravin93 on July 08, 2019, 05:21:02 AM
Hi!

We have 2 adresses with bitcoins "trapped" which we are unable to transfer to other adresses or convert it to any currency.

We would really appreciate some guideline on our situation and if we can ever recover from these 2 adresses.

One address is the following: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/112797aokkr29PDoVE3Gu2VsSHPfa68eM7

If there is more information i can provide regarding the situation, we're more than willing to express it.

Thanks guys!!

define what you mean when you say "trapped"?
do you have the private key to 112797aokkr29PDoVE3Gu2VsSHPfa68eM7 or is it just a random address that you chose (maybe sent 0.0012871BTC to it) and now try to spend the funds in that address?

I highly doubt you own the private key to the address that receive 50 BTC in 2010. Just a guess: did someone try to sell you a read-only address some way? That's a common scam, but usually happens with much lower amounts. Can you explain the story behind why you think this is your address?

we can't help you if you don't explain your problem and post contradictory replies. if you have the private key to those addresses then there should be no problem with spending those coins. again explain what you mean by "trapped", what wallet you used to spend the coins and what was the steps you took and what was the "error" you saw that led you to believe you are "unable to transfer"?

If you have the private keys, then you should:
1. Download Electrum or another wallet. If it's electrum make sure you get it from the official site: https://electrum.org ; it would not hurt to also check the signature (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1836004.0) to make sure you don't get a fake wallet.
2. Import the private keys: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/importing-your-private-keys-into-electrum/

Then you can send the coins wherever you want (make sure you also pay the correct/required transaction fee).

PS. Make sure the computer is not infected; make sure the wallet is the correct one. 50 BTC is a huge amount of money and would be a shame to get it stolen by some hackers.

I still flind that hard to believe, so I'll ask again: what's the story behind this, and how did you obtain the private key?

I seriously doubt OPs story here.
This address appears in lists of addresses created in the early days of bitcoin and it is believed that the owners simply lost access to them. I believe OP found it in some of these resources.

More about that here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2691123.0

It also appears in this table titled 'Dormant Bitcoin Addresses with a balance of 25btc or more'
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xTROekDerP1TPOB3SOD_1bbQr580BPqbhF3YHdO96pw/edit#gid=189298223
No bitcoins have ever been spent from that address.

If OP had the private keys there would be no need for this thread. I could be wrong but I am going with my gut feeling on this one.

WOW! and there are in total 3,380,582.41BTC stuck on those addresses so far! What a waste of bitcoins. The good side is that - we are lucky with whatever amount of bitcoins we have. The lost value adds up.

Anyway, I was about to ask OP to sign a message using the address but seems like he does not know how to even use the address then how is he going to know to sing an address LOL

There are no way to know if the OP is trolling or really in need of help. Very sad.

What a waste of bitcoins.
Lost Bitcoins are a win for all Bitcoin holders: it becomes more scarce which means the value of the remaining coins goes up.
