My name is Valentin. I am a 51 years old physicist engineer. I like the bitcoin and what bitcoin has done until now. But bitcoin has also not very good aspects.  

 The bitcoin ticker is BTC. Where I am in Eastern Europe BT were some famous cigars made in Bulgaria 50 years ago. When i was a child everyone was smoking starting with the age of 7 (years old). I am not joking, this is true.

My father was an MD, my mother is an MD. They cured thousands of men of tuberculosis. I have not followed them as an MD because every day when I was a child I was listening for 3 hours for the medical conditions that they had to cure that day.

My mother says that what goes around comes around in medicine. Because the ticker of the bitcoin resembles the cigarettes in the Eastern europe, bitcoin is bad.  One can get intoxicated by simply reading the bitcoin ticker BTC.

 90% of the people in this world do not know what bitcoin is. It is sufficient for them to come to you smoking, believing that they make you a good thing. You will become afraid of them. I experienced myself this fear.

More than 50% of the world uses USD, which again harms them. But nobody warns about it! It's pointless to compare cigarettes and bitcoin.

If tobacco is harmful, bitcoin gives us convenience, it won't be long before it reaches people and I see that comparison is unnecessary.

I have been into this past couple of years and recently I have also started reading books like Mastering Bitcoin, Articles on Blockchain and cryptocurrency etc., Tilldate I have not smoked or have done Drinks. I feel happy when I get to know more and more about the technology behind the BTC development. I admire the minds behind this development and would love to work more on such projects.

I do not think there is any relation between smoking and Bitcoin. Everything is in mind you can drop the though.

most elderly are scared of new technologies. they are even afraid of using computers and i have heard one even say they were afraid that if they used a computer they might catch a computer virus and become sick! and i am not joking about this...
you can't blame their simple way of thinking and it is not much of a story to tell others. you shouldn't force them to change their way of thinking either. most people are set in their ways after certain age and nothing can change that.

It is completely nonsense and has nothing to do with Bitcoin. Even though you claimed as an engineer, but it does not come to my mind that you problematize a BTC ticker and associate it with a cigarettes company. If you really worrying kids to be intoxicated with cigarettes you should do something more rational instead of blaming BTC ticker, FFS, it has nothing to do with BTC.

At the age of 51, you are comparing Bitcoin with Cigarettes. Either you have lost your mind or you are completely drunk while writing this topic.

Let's take the same example that you have used in this post. Since I am not a Doctor I will be using plain and simple terminology for you to understand.

Money can buy Cigarettes and Money can buy Bitcoin. Therefore as per your example, Money is the cause of all pain and suffering in the world. Money is being minted by the government and controlled by big financial institutions. Thus money is a Cancer that is affecting everyone living in this world.

Bitcoin was invented by Dr Satoshi Nakamoto to cure this cancer.

Also don't forget that XTC the drug is like BTC but with an X. Clearly the work of the devil himself. When you look at the BTC ticker you immediately get insatiable lust for the drug ecstasy ticket XTC.

Also, reefer madness is entirely 100%  factual and accurate. Once a smoked a joint and I had this need to steal and behave badly and sleep around just like the highly factual reefer madness films warn us.

There are many exaples like this one. MS for example is  Multiple Sclerosis but people use if quite oftern refering to MicroSoft for example. Those a just superstition. No need to bother.
I know those cigarettes, but I really doubt that when people see BTC the will think of cigarettes.

The generation gap is shown in this thread and we should respect both sides, bitcoin is money and it's not addictive, but we can say that it can lead to loss of profit or bankruptcy but bitcoin works on its own and can be beneficial for its users, it was not run by a huge company to manipulate and gain for themselves. Fraud is inevitable but it can be identified easily in today's internet by securely checking of its legitimacy

That is just your personal fear. Maybe you developed a phobia because of your childhood experience. But I am sure that BT as a cigarette has nothing to do with BTC. And as addictive as bitcoin can be, it cannot give you tuberculosis.

I am not sure what you are trying to imply here, whether you have some psychological issue which is to be sorted because you have a deep wound from child birth  :P. Economics is all about profit and hope you have heard about Altria, Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco, Imperial Brands, Turning Point Brands, these are tobacco companies listed in the stock exchanges and what makes you think it is a negative sign  ::). No one is forcing anyone to invest in bitcoin and it all comes to individual decisions whether you want to invest in it or not, if you think it a bad thing, never invest in it, it is a simple process to take decisions for a normal human but not sure if you have some psychological scars  ;).

Well BT means nothing in my country, it certainly doesn't mean cigarettes. Is the world supposed to accept your imposition? If you start digging, all the tickers will have hidden meanings elsewhere, just like language words. Too bad you are associating cigarettes with bitcoin, but you are wrong there, and Satoshi wasn't at fault.

If it feels you better (or worse) the official accepted ticker in some circles is XBT :)

You're comparing addiction to bitcoin and its price to the destructive habit of smoking cigarettes. I really don't see anything in common here. Smoking is bad for your health but in what way bitcoin is bad.

 Being addicted to harmful substances is unlike being addicted to watching TV or working. One has a direct impact on your health and the other one can result in you wasting your time and money but it won't damage your organs.

It's just a ticker so why bother about the meaning in Bulgaria? it's different. Don't compare things just because of their ticker, well indeed cigarettes can harm people but did it stop people from buying it? I salute your parents for helping and curing thousands of people but it's completely nonsense to say that bitcoin is harmful base on your explanation. You are defining 'BT' as it is but bitcoin is BTC. Though we have freedom of expression but I guess this is an odd explanation and comparison, you are comparing orange and apple.

that is a wrong assumption about BTC, there is no relationship between cigarettes and BTC.  but the reality is someone who is comfortable and understands the BTC concept, even if he often benefits from every trade and investment, then someone will be addicted.  and it's like cigarettes.  BTC is very good and cigarettes are not good.  BTC only needs regulation to be perfect.

I am a smoker, and I enjoy it, why do people blame tobacco, when many people enjoy it, and everyone likes Bitcoin, and many people want to have it, even Bitcoin is a good thing for the future..

This is just BTC "bitcoin" and it actually poses no harm to an onlookers and users and has no direct health effect. If we are to talk about its production or mining process, then we need to discuss manufacturing of goods and services in other sectors. Just let people know that bitcoin is just a digital currency that can change their lives.

kinda weird topic hmmm are you pertaining to something you think good from the beginning but sooner it might cause you something bad, thats the comparison that i understand that you are pointing. But obviously from the start you know smoking is bad for you and i really cannot think of something good you can get from it , compare to BTC  people invest in it because they see something good and positive outcome from it.

I think it's good for cigarettes or bitcoin, the users who know better ... can't be compared between one person and another. whatever you choose, if it's not good for what to go on, so does bitcoin if it makes you better it would be better to continue

Cigarette is bad because you can get many disease by smoking however, i don't see the connection of it to bitcoin? Just because the ticker has BT people in your country categorized it also as bad, they must be mature enough to know the difference between a physical and digital things.

Got to read your story and your country is not the only one who think bitcoin is not a good investment. Most of the people in our prestigious country also thinks that Bitcoin is just a fraud thing. Otherwise, I still believe and have a high hopes that this blockchain technology may be a solution to some of the economic problems of country.


OP just compared bitcoin to cigarettes which means that some people may think bitcoin is not good in our lives. People think that the reputation of bitcoin is like cigarettes  it may be addicted but not healthy.

It might be that history. But I would say. History never stops. People accept education from history. Similarly, technology does not stop in the past. I think bitcoin is happening. A new discovery of the current technology.

Well, with that, I must say that everything has its pros and cons. It just depends on the user really on how he will apply it. Personally, I haven't experienced something bad because of bitcoin. Worse for me so far is its volatility but who doesn't get affected with that right? And as years go by and as development occurs, then bitcoin is something that we should embrace since it is the future of currency.

Patient, maybe he was confused by what he said. I think he doesn't really learn about bitcoin and the BTC ticker. Indeed there are many of the same tickers, but they have different meanings.

He's actually making an even crazier comparison. He's saying that since this Bulgarian cigar company was named "BT" -- and this shares two letters from BTC's acronym -- both are bad:

Sorry for your case, and alao sorry and do not be offended, I think you need to learn more all about Bitcoin, because Bitcoin isn't a harmful depend of the holders know how it to handle well,  cigarettes is giving harmful to our health.

Many people are afraid to invest in bitcoin because they know it is risky. Until now, many says that bitcoin is a bubble thing. However, they are eager to invest in real quick rich schemes. A lot of my countrymen have engaged in scam investment and it has been a news nationally.
The ironic thing is that, they are misled by what they are thinking of with bitcoin.

OP may have had some worst experiences in the past but that doesn't mean Bitcoin is like that and there is something blurry on the side of comparing Bitcoin to his past. It doesn't work that way, the more we read about Bitcoin the more we know what, how, and why it is being created by Satoshi. Of course, it's risky if you single-handedly invest it without the proper knowledge i'm sure you will lose.
