I've read that they've had to fork the testnet a couple of times because people were trying to monetise it. When you're done it's considered good form to return it to the faucet. I've seen him giving 5 tBTC at once and even offering to get 50-150 BTC to another user. Never pay for them tho.

You can see the block situation here - https://tbtc.bitaps.com/blocks The last block found was 1 hour 20 minutes ago but it's pretty similar to Bitcoin's block generation times usually. actually it is the only thing that is different between bitcoin testnet and bitcoin mainnet. the difference is in difficulty, it is set in a way that it can drop to 1 if there hasn't been any blocks found for a while. this is done to help keep the testnet chain alive. but then it has been manipulated a lot which means there are times that we don't see any new blocks for a long time and then as the difficulty drops we see hundreds found within a short time. |
