Title: I bought 4 mother boards with 4 gpus to it help please!! help
Post by: Joztissi007 on March 15, 2014, 07:57:27 AM
Hi guys

my last question was bit unclear so i tried to post here again.

I'm a newbie here for mining..

i bought hardwares for the rig -

4 moherboards
5 gpus for each motherboard
power supply
memory sticks
ssd
optical drive
cpu
rig case

Now the problem is i'm new to this rig building and putting it to work.
I tried to assemble all hardware to build a rig.

but there are some questions i ran into.

1. Do each of the rig needs to have monitor connected to it ? if no how do i install the mining software and wallet to each rig ? without monitor the rig might sleep.
2. if i can use only one monitor for all 5 rigs so how do i do it ? please little stress on this please..
3. do i need to have mining software and wallet installed in each rig ? or do i need to make different mining account for each rig ?
4. if i don'T need to make separate mining account to each rig so how do i connect each rig to my one mining account?

please help me with your explanations it will help me to understand how to assemble the rig and install it and connect it and use it as workers.

regards.

Just grind it all up and extract the gold with an aqueous cyanide solution.  ;D

I'm not a big specialist but I will try to give you some answers:

1. You need only a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse
2. You need a KVM Switch (monitor, keyboard and mouse switch) with 4 monitors wires and 8 usb wire (for keyboard and mouse)
Here is an example of KVM switch: http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/kvm-switches
3. You need only an operating system and a mining sofware (Kncminer) installed on each computer (motherboard) of the rig
4. Create an account in a mining pool and create 4 miners (1 miner for each computer)
5. Configure Kncminer on each computer an start mining. The pool will provide you informations to configure Kncminer.

I hope you have some RAM for each motherboard as it isn't in your hardware list.

It seems a little risked to me to use SSD hard disks because they will be very requested.

I recommend you to compare several mining pools and to consult forums on this matter. If you decide to mine altcoins, some mining pools are able to switch automatically on the most profitable coin.

You need only an adress to receive the coins from the pool. You can use a computer wallet installed on your personnal computer, a Blockchain or Coinbase wallet.

Sorry, my english is not so good but I hope that my response will help you.

Hi guys

my last question was bit unclear so i tried to post here again.

I'm a newbie here for mining..

i bought hardwares for the rig -

4 moherboards                            <----- Which ones? Do they have enough PCI slots?
5 gpus for each motherboard        <----- Which ones? do you know the power consumption when mining? I have an 80+ Gold 1250W PSU, and that was not enough to power 4 x 7970s
power supply                               <----- What is the power rating? You will need enough power for 5 GPUs.
memory sticks
ssd                                             <----- USB drives would be cheaper, I run mine on 8GB drives
optical drive
cpu
rig case                                       <----- Normal PC cases not ideal for airflow

*** You also need PCI raiser cables. These are cables that connects to a PCI express slot on one end and the graphics card on the other end. They allow you to lift the cards further away from the MB and from each other. They look like this:
https://www.hashratestore.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/powered-pcie-1x-16x-16x-riser-cable-molex-13.jpg

--->No, you don't need a monitor. When I installed the OS on my rigs, I attached a monitor, keyboard and mouse to one rig, installed the OS and software, then cloned the harddrive (USB drives in my case) to the other rigs. After that there is no need for monitors. I used Linux Mint 13, but I am sure there are mining specific ones around now. I would recommend using Linux, at the very least it saves you to licensing headache from Windows.

2. if i can use only one monitor for all 5 rigs so how do i do it ? please little stress on this please..
--->If you run Linux, I can tell you what command lines to use.

3. do i need to have mining software and wallet installed in each rig ? or do i need to make different mining account for each rig ?
--->You need mining software on each rig. I recommend CGMiner. It is best not to have any wallets on the mining machines, for security.

4. if i don'T need to make separate mining account to each rig so how do i connect each rig to my one mining account?
--->Same pool settings for all rig. But, most pools allow you to have multiple workers for your account. I think it would be better to have 1 worker for each rig, so you can see their performance on the pool individually.

please help me with your explanations it will help me to understand how to assemble the rig and install it and connect it and use it as workers.

regards.

Not necessary on Linux.  ::)

GPUs are no-longer a viable method for mining SHA256 based coins such as BTC. If your cards are Radeons then you'll be mining Scrypt coins such as LTC or DOGE. If your cards are Nvidia then you'll be mining Script-Jane coins such as YBC or CENT.

If you're good at the secret handshake then you should get some ASICs for mining BTC.

OP,

We offer both USB and Ribbon pci-e risers at www.hashratesolutions.com (http://www.hashratesolutions.com).  Enjoy mining!

Hi  thank you guys for taking time..

I really appreciate for taking time to help me out.

let me list my hardwares here for you to have more better understanding of my rig.

Please let me know how good or bad my rig is going to be in terms of mining. and also help me to choose which type of currency i    should choose to mine.

do you think my litecoin mining will be good with these rigs ?

1. 4 X Motherboard (Gigabyte each with 5 pci slots)
2. Memory stick x 4 (Each of 8GB)
3. Pci-e 16x risers + 1x risers
5. 15 x Sapphire radeon R9 290x (4GB DDR5) (
6. 5 x Sapphire Tri-x R9 290 (4GB GDDR5)
7. Power supply 1000 watt 4 pieces + 850 watts 6 pieces
8. SSD 60GB x 4 (for each mother board)
9. Optical drive 1 piece
10. cooler fans 8 pieces.

Regards

I don't mean to worry you, but if you can send all your items back and get a refund that is probably going to me your most profitable options.  Based on the following reasons.

1, Profitability of scrypt mining has halfed over the last 1-2 weeks, you will be very very lucky if you see ROI
2, It's only going to go down hill from here with the first asic scrypt miner out.
3, Which I think is my main concern is you've gone out and spent about $15,000 - $20,000 on mining rigs which you've asking some basic question about how to use and set up.
