Title: Myetherwallet; erc20 tokens disappear!
Post by: PointHope on July 11, 2019, 01:43:48 PM
So back in 2017 I buy some erc20 token PAY. Seemed like a good idea as it was the TenX visa card thing...

As recomended I stashed them in myetherwallet.

TenX/PAY goes south big time.

I shoulda cashed out, but the wallet was a pita to use so I just hung on.

Then myetherwallet makes a gazillion changes and a new wallet, adds the ledger access.

I never did put any ETH with the wallet.

After a long spell I check on my tokens and they freaking disapeared,

No history no nothing except that I can sign in with my private keys.

I'm just glad I didn't buy any more than the silly PAY tokens.

I think I just became a pure BTC maximalist, and will trade the few ETH I got for BTC..
and screw myetherwallet,

This is an interesting story. I had a little bit different.
In 2018, some token appeared on one of my addresses. This address was not specified anywhere (airdrop, bounty). I did not buy this token. Apparently it was a spam token. In the spring of 2019, this token disappeared from my wallet. No transaction. I did not understand what it was :).

Something you do not say in this story.
You say - there is no transaction history, and at the same time you say that you bought tokens. This means that in the wallet history there should be an incoming transaction (purchased tokens).
Also check if you added a display of tokens of interest to you in the MEW (contract address, name, decimal).

You still have the wallet address?

This is something new to me. I would like to see if there is possibility that it is because there is no transaction that happened after you bought the token or is it because you didn't have any balance in your account.
It could be that, they are cleaning some of the addresses which doesnt have any ETH in it.
Because you need it for gas to get in and out.  :)

i didn't know what do you mean
but, maybe you should check on ethereum explorer first, such as https://etherscan.io
if your tokens still there, thats mean you should add your tokens manually in myetherwallet my friend
but if there is no tokens in your ethereum address on https://etherscan.io maybe your tokens was gone

When I do not believe in this story. Can not cryptocurrency disappear. Perhaps it had to be exchanged. And you missed this event. Or it is not visible to you and you need to keep the values of the token. Check carefully the history of the coin so simply do not disappear. I wish I could get rid of all those useless coins that are kept on my wallet, but I can't.

if there is txid, maybe this story will be a complete and maybe we can find out the cause there, but in my opinion it's clear this is a human error factor,  maybe you entered the wallet incorrectly so you don't get the TenX token

What do you mean disappeared? In the blockchain, everything can be traced and find out what and where it went/came. Most likely in MEW this token is simply not displayed, try adding it manually (as advised above).

My understanding is that your ERC20 tokens were stolen? Tokens will not disappear for no reason. You can query them on the block chain. It is recommended to use this website for queries: https://ethplorer.io/address

Even if token was stolen, it will appear on his etherium transaction as one that was sent out and the address it was sent to too. Have never had experience of a reversed transaction with blockchain but this one appears strange, the easiest way is to search on ethplorer.io

That can't happen on the blockchain. All your transactions are recorded. Please check your wallet address on etherscan as well as all its transactions. You may have missed some of that.

can you share your eth address that has the tokens? because i never saw a person that lost his tokens from his wallet,
maybe you entered your private key into a phishing MEW or you just forget to add a custom token after you login into the MEW

Yes, please check carefully your address on etherscan.io, any single transaction will appear here. Because according to you, if there is no transaction, your wallet has not been hacked. Adding token again, then reload your wallet.

I do not understand you well, but if you are having problem with the user interface, try old version here: https://vintage.myetherwallet.com
If you missed token swap, then contact team and they will surely help you, I think that they will send you a code and you will call a smart contract and you will receive your new tokens.  :)

Im not sure about that but it seems like there was a bug, and i heard that tenx already issued a new token but correct me if im wrong about that. He must be doubled checked or his wallet already hacked by hackers.

Kinda what I'm thinking. Some sort of bug, the only token in the wallet was PAY. And was going to use the history to claim the new TenX token being issued.
If the wallet was hacked there'd be history of some transactions, hacked or not hacked.

There was only one transaction by me which was to put in the tokens.
I was about to add some ETH for 'gas' purpose but now not sure whether to bother.

I'm also thinking I must be doing something wrong, or missing something kinda simple.
Apparently I still have the wallet and an address.

The whole TenX thing pisses me off.
Along with myetherwallet requiring ETH to move the tokens.
But does the wallet now require ETH just to display the transaction history?
Sorta confusing it is!
That said I never could figure out how to make ETH work on the Ledger wallet.
Maybe what I need to do is shoot a tiny bit of ETH into the myetherwallet address and see what happens!

No transaction is a kind a weird , Blockchain has all transactions the in and out of your wallet. I don't consider a bug either, check it in ethplorer or etherscan maybe it's the wrong wallet .

I found this strange for token to disappear without any case of hack, maybe you should check ethexplorer or etherscan before concluding your token has disappeared, it has happened to me before and i was able to see it on explorer while i can't see it in my wallet.

Is there any outgoing pay token transaction from your wallet ? If not , then it is still in your wallet mate . Maybe you need to add it manualy to a list of tokens in order to see it in the list . Press "add custom token" button and enter all necessary data for this token .

Upd .
Just checked mew and seems that PAY token is in list of standart tokens . Press "show all tokens" and then find a "pay" token in the list and press "click to load" . Now it will show your balance of PAY tokens

Many complaints we got this forum about losing funds in myetherwallet. Most of the time people lose the funds on accessing the phishing sites which is similar like MEW site.
We need to be careful while accessing the wallet by checking its URL first.

Found my tokens!
I'd transposed two letters on the private key...

Well I feel really fooking dumb

I'd checked several times and missed the mistake..

Big OOPS!!!

:D This is why you should always confirm via etherscan or ethplorer if your tokens are really gone before posting. Your stress could have been avoided had you taken a few minutes checking. Anyway, glad you had it figured out now.

EDIT:
Maybe you can now update your original post and indicate that you were able to solve the issue.
