no,

silk road burn because of the bitcoin existence, not the other way.

hate to say this but it was healthy for bitcoin in some point.

i dont support places like this which drug our kids and us with deadly chemicals like heroin and bad shit.

to smoke hash and grass its ok and different but the other shit is deadly bad for us and our kids.

While it probably was one of Bitcoin's first "Killer Apps" and helped spread the word, Bitcoin probably would have started to gain traction even in a world where Silk Road never existed.

Keep in mind that the Bitcoin exchange rate never broke USD 280,- during Silk Road's lifetime. Also Bitcoin was starting to see acceptance by clearnet organizations (eg. Reddit and WordPress) when it first reached a 3 digits exchange rate so it was probably the move from legal grey areas to legit companies that kicked off Bitcoin's upward trajectory.

Like HeRetiK said, bitcoin would rise regardless. It just so happens that the Silk Road was it's first platform that actually gained decent adoption. Without the Silk Road, it would've gain traction elsewhere. I guess most probably a couple of years later if Silk Road didn't existed, but that few years difference really wouldn't matter in the long term.

What "great marketers" are you referring to? And also, do you mind showing us a link to an article of the "history" you're referring to? Not sure if I 100% get what you're trying to say though.

Not really, and if you read the history (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4322078.0), it was Wikileaks and not Silk Road that put it first on mass media. Besides Bitcoin leaves more traces and is unsuitable for these activities. Don't forget, the blockchain is public...

top answer and if people know to trace it right bitcoin come by the team of wiki leaks as some experts even said that cicada 3301 is operation done by wiki leaks and its very realistic compare to all the fiction and other shit people spread.

bitcoin and cicada 3301 and wiki leaks heavily work with peer to peer tech and cryptography and have the same vision in other words.

people think its some crap of information when in reality its the most realistic one which mean wiki leaks did million times things which are more" cpmlex and the biggest operation in the entire history.

someone else said here that the definition of bit: A bit (short for binary digit) is the smallest unit of data in a computer. A bit has a single binary value, either 0 or 1.

33(01) = bit'coin

The price rise simply due to one reason, it’s profitable, and I don’t think Silk Road is profitable, they can make some quick bucks but it’s risking too much and the market is also very competitive, they can easily get out of business, and they are using bitcoin to stay relevant, I’d say bitcoin help Silk Road not the other way around.

Of course Bitcoin didn't exist in a vacuum.

But name one project that came even close to be the p2p equivalent of cash prior to Bitcoin.

Just one.

It definitely made a contribution but for me it is way insignificant compared to other platforms which used the same coin. Deepweb got a strong relevance to btc back on those days and until now. Since it is is the way of making transactions there, btc gained popularity until it reach where it stands right now. However, how ironic to know that the place where btc shines is the one which also destroy its image. Many prospective investors got scared of buying not only btc but crypto in general because what comes to their mind first is that it was connected to deepweb — a place where you can found all the evil things you could ever imagine — and this is true because I experienced it personally. Some of my classmates that I tried to persuade to invest in btc share the same sentiment.

So if we compare Silk Road's or any deepweb related stuffs contribution into others, there will be a huge gap and anticipate that disadvantages are always greater than advantages.

So, where is the question here? It can be or not. We never can't know exactly.
I think you are missing something for Bitcoin. It is not directly related with something. Reddit also used Bitcoin a long time. Was there any reason Bitcoin prices? I don't think so.

You know they say even bad publicity is good publicity, well it was also true for Silkroad. While the Silkroad debacle was "Clickbait" for the media, it also gave Bitcoin some free publicity. People who might not have known about Bitcoin, could have read something about Silkroad and Bitcoin in the media and that might have sparked interest in the technology for other uses. <Legit or illegal>  ::)

There are also a lot of people who thought that Silkroad was a brilliant idea for drug deals to be made in a safer environment. So instead of going into some back alley and getting robbed, people could order their drugs from home and get it delivered to their doorstep. <I am not saying I agree with them, but it makes sense in a weird way.>  ::)
