Post by: porkandbeansboy on July 30, 2019, 08:40:36 PM
I don't understand the concept of Smerit or the incentive to receive or how to receive them or what reason there is to Send one to someone. I received 2 Smerit and Sent one to someone who helped Me is that the purpose bit confused about this?

The intent as I understand it is to encourage quality posts, educational, informative, detailed, helpful, etc. Basically to try and grow the content here to be less spam, troll, and scammer filled.

Smerit means spendable merit.

2 merit you received = 1 smerit.

And in your case, you have received 2 merits so you have 1 smerit which means that you can send 1 merit to any valuable post in your discretion which you already did.

And if people find your post valuable, helpful, informative and worth to receive merit then expect that it will get merited.

Over a year ago I created an article about the merit system -
https://talkmerit.com/the-source/index.php/articles/the-bitcoin-talk-merit-system

This is based on ther perspective of a merit source, but I haven't updated it for quite a while. I'll try to review it in the near future.

Not possible since you don't even get any merits yet.

For having one sMerit (spendable merit) you need to be received two merits.

Yes, you're exactly right. And you spent your sMerit exactly the way its supposed to be used. You need merits to rank up in the Bitcointalk world (and Activity). You will be a Jr Member any day now. Next rank after that is Member, Full Member, Senior Member, etc. (Jet Cash probably described it well in his... website about merit??? wow).

I've only received 1 smerit in my life.

If you think the post is helpful as what you have said then that’s the right way to do since merit is really hard to gain now..you don’t have to be confused because you actually understand the way you asked this thread.
And besides we don’t have to hoard our merit because as what Theymos there’s no point in holding for in future this can be taken away from us again
