Title: Chinese Ghost Month
Post by: nydiacaskey01 on August 01, 2019, 03:10:08 PM
So the Chinese Ghost Month is about to begin (August 15, 2019). Asians follow such tradition that when Chinese Ghost Month begins, people should stop entering new business because of bad luck. In the crypto world, do you guys think that we should avoid going to their direction. Ghost Month or not, there should be more.

Oh I didn't know that

In the crypto world, do you guys think that we should avoid going to their direction.

imagine that on August 15th the bitcoin price dropped to $5000 and you figured that in 5 years the price will reach $30,000, would you stop taking your money and buying more bitcoins? would you lose such a big opportunity to buy cheap? Many people like to believe in supernatural things so they can have peace of mind

Because of supernatural? Don't think so  :P Could say that can affect on crypto market somehow tho.. But IMHO nothing huge. There is no way that this event could put some influence on the general crypto situation.

China is unclear on its crypto policy anyway, but I believe the market is not so deeply affected by these changes of heart anymore. So if some people from China decide not to buy more BTC, I don't think it will be a big deal. Especially so since the Ghost Month doesn't seem to suggest to stop the business you're already started (=sell your coins).
I don't think now is the right time to sell. Surely, it largely depends on the price at which you bought, and on your plans and needs, but even though $10k is a nice level, it seems clear that Bitcoin can do a lot better in the next year or two.

No matter how much so-called analyst try to see some price movements by picking random dates and random percentages, nothing happens on the Chinese New Year neither in 2018 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2985020.20) nor in 2019 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5097856.0)
, nothing happened on Eid (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4473102.0),  Easter or Black Friday.

Anyhow, what China does has stopped mattering a long time ago and so should their practice.

In the crypto world, do you guys think that we should avoid going to their direction. Ghost Month or not, there should be more.

If we take into account every date and number that is unlucky for every culture, every aspect of every color, we would stay in our houses naked all the day, between 2 and 2.11 meters from both window and door facing south south west , fearing something bad is going to happen to us

Well thanks for the advise. Under this superstition its best to hurry and finish any business with Chinese people, who would probably go silent for a whole month without really telling you why over any (major) proposal.

Although i doubt they will all stop doing business, i wouldn't be surprised some would rather wait a month before committing into any large enterprise. Its always good to be aware of these cultural traditions.

Well am pretty sure that most of the people including me were unaware of this , gladly due to this we don't mind investing whenever we want , therefore I do think that this is of little or no relevance at all.

If there is a ghost month let it be , the market follows its own suit and I bet China doesn't have that much influence , they are not even allowed trading and investing therefore I don't think any other country follow the Chinese tradition.

If we look at price history of Bitcoin
July 15, 2016 $664.74 then by August 15, 2016 $569.09 that's minus 14%
July 15, 2017 $2,064.93 then by August 15, 2017 $4,125.31 that's a positive 99%
July 15, 2018 $6,385.32 then by August 15, 2018 $6,410.34 its still a positive 0.39%
However, Chinese Ghost month starts and ends on a different day every year I will research further on what are those days in 2016 to 2018 to give an exact price of Bitcoin on those days.

I respect their belief but this doesn't affect me in all aspects mostly with my crypto investments. I think that the traditional investments that has a belief on Chinese Ghost month would follow the tradition. And the crypto is already immune with these kind of events.

discussion about the ghost month comes up every year, like clockwork! :D

with only 9 years of exchange data, the truth is we have no idea. we need a much larger data set to garner any confidence about a pattern. so with that in mind, then historically, august is a bearish month for bitcoin---with only two exceptions, 2013 and 2017.

Those Chinese who invest in or speculate on bitcoin don't give a shit about this tradition.

In other word, those who care these superstitious traditions are too stupid to understand bitcoin.

Hahahha, actually the crypto trader has no respect for any holiday or special traditional month. His only concern are his TA and FA. I will never follow any superstitious believe.

Chinese are very superstitious and they intend to follow that for traditions from generations to generations though it's all  really depends on the faith and hardwork to be able to succeed in such businesses in my opinion especially in crypto it doesn't give negative effect and because of that ghost month nothing can stop crypto.

I agree with you, this is just a custom. China's GDP is still growing this month. So in fact, they will not mind.
