In my local, any kind of activity related to BTC is illegal. Before 2014, there was no law about Bitcoin, but in 2014, Bangladesh Bank applied a rule and asked people not to do any activity related to bitcoin. For doing so, one may get jailed and/or a fine.

why would i want to do that?
as much as i like bitcoin and use it in as many occasions as i can, but i still can not use bitcoin in my day to day expenses such as paying the bills and buying groceries. getting paid in bitcoin (fully) means i would have to convert it to fiat (pay extra exchange fee) just to be able to spend it!

there is an additional factor that you should never invest more than you can afford to lose. going full bitcoin means i would be risking more than i am willing to.

i prefer keeping the balance of investing my excess fiat that i don't need in bitcoin.

And get jailed  ;D

then you are already doing something illegal by just being here not to mention getting paid in bitcoin already, if you are really living in Bangladesh.

the fact is they don't accept bitcoin as payment and they don't have any plans for the foreseeable future.

the second point is still valid by the way, considering the high volatility of bitcoin.

Yes, I do but I'm interested in bitcoin, not doing any illegal activity with that like money laundering (for which bitcoin is banned here), not paying for any illegal service. I have the right to adopt the technology.

I asked them to subtract 5% of my Net salary and to pay that into a Bitcoin address that I provided to them and they agreed. <My boss is a Bitcoin fanatic> I would have converted 5% of my salary into Bitcoin myself and now they are doing it on my behalf. < I do not have to deposit Fiat and pay Bank fees on those transactions or the conversion fees at the exchange >  ;D

It might be a bit more difficult with other companies, if they do not have a Bitcoin friendly CEO.  :P  It will also help if you can influence the HR and Finance guys, because they execute the tasks to get the bitcoins into your Bitcoin address.  ;D

As much as there is good intent behind this post, I don't think there is really a point - BTC isn't at a point right now where it is ready for mass adoption, as hard as that might be for us to admit. The lightning network was a really good addition and made making microtransactions a lot more viable and affordable, but we still aren't ready so far.

As much as I love BTC and hold some to this day, but I prefer holding it as excess money, instead of keeping everything into an unstable source of money, I prefer fiat!

Still waiting for the day they start accepting bitcoin at my place. Why the hell authorities are mad for crypto? simply because it cuts down the tax and stuff?
Probably due to lack of demand, high TX fees and regulations.

To answer OP, problem with me is that I do not have a boss. I am a self employed but whenever I get spare cash I buy Bitcoin.

For daily life shopping, I think Bitcoin will be too expensive unless we see something like Lightning Network become very popular.

Well, I try to troll my boss like this. Here is in my place Bitcoin is well known and my boss also aware of that cryptocurrency. Crypto enthusiast people will understand if you are just kidding only not being by serious. I do not think what will be the reaction but for sure he will never get pissed off. Indeed, this is a nice try to promote Bitcoin even our boss. Who knows our boss will become big investors of bitcoin at least we help the supply of bitcoin get lesser and make the crypto market healthier.

I don't have a boss. But to many of my countrymen who are employed in a government or private office, most probably their boss does not have an inkling as to what Bitcoin really is. If at all, it is some kind of a scam or something used for illegal schemes.

The grocery stores do not know Bitcoin either.

The best way to do this is for Bitcoin supporters themselves to do the first step. Create stores and accept Bitcoin, hire staff with Bitcoin salary, accept tips and give rewards to loyal customers in Bitcoin. Bitcoin supporters will have to rally behind such business initiatives and flock there. Otherwise, the store beside you won't follow suit.

I believe we are still far aways from being paid in bitcoin. First, there must be real demand and usage through stores accepting bitcoin as a mean of payment before we can try to receive our salary in bitcoin.
And there is additional paper work to be done for the company if they switch from fiat to btc.

Further i believe that this is quite bad while bitcoin has this high volatility.
Having 5% less the day after the payday, just because of volatility is quite bad. Once prices will be measured in btc instead of fiat, that will work good though.

The idea is great but not all the governments are in favor of bitcoin or crypto currencies so other people might find it difficult especially if they are in strict country that prohibit the use of crypto currencies.

But for those country that freely accepts crypto currencies especially bitcoin then this might be the greatest idea that will bring the digital payment into another level.

Asking for a pay in bitcoin might make the boss know about bitcoin. We've reached a good level in the market, and further we need to have patience till the day comes for us to buy everything with bitcoin. As more countries are in the event of regulating bitcoin right now something we do relative to cryptocurrency need to be kept confidential because corrupt governments always look for someone to expose news to the public.

Title: Re: Hey Tomorrow ask your boss if you can be paid in bitcoin.

My boss is already aware of Bitcoin, but they wouldn't use Bitcoin to give the salary because the company doesn't get paid in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, to be precise. I think it would be a great way to be paid, but the value is going to be different every week.

For the grocery, there is a way to use Bitcoin, but first, it would need to go to a credit card then pay using a payment provider that accepts Bitcoin, which is not bad. There are other payment gateways that you could go thru, so it agrees and accepts Bitcoin. Maybe, in the long run, there would be more payment channels available.

We would soon be free from this slavery called "fiat"!  We just need to keep promoting bitcoin to our employers or employees, mechanic, institutions, schools, restaurants, churches or mosques and hotels. I will rather be in control of my funds and in bitcoin than keeping them in the bank and if I have the ways I will rather buying in bitcoin that fiat currency. since I read the story online how our governments do manipulate the fiats to favor the rich, I have been having miss feelings about faits and the fraudulent financial system.

Lol. You do realize that Bitcoin's price is directly a reflection of how much fiat dollars you get for it right? If you are being paid out in Bitcoin, your salary is basically $1500 worth of Bitcoin, set at Bitcoin's fiat value at that specific day. You will no longer be a 'slave' when everything is priced in satoshis and not fiat dollars.

Your bank gives you a piece of mind in the way that you have a certain percentage of your wealth in a centralized ecosystem that's pretty much impossible to lose due to hacks and whatnot. I never had a coffee/grocery payment censored at all. It works perfectly for day to day payments and bill settlement. Not everything requires decentralization.

I read the story online how our governments do manipulate the fiats to favor the rich, I have been having miss feelings about faits and the fraudulent financial system.
Is it manipulation that makes the rich richer, or are they just smarter with their capital allocations? I go for the latter. :)

That might be the cleverest way to pay and bring Bitcoin in the mainstream market. From salary to grocery market if the flow becomes smoother then the future is near when Bitcoin become a primary currency for all.

For argument's sake, please do not answer me with I prefer fiat but I will use it to buy BTC.

No, for real man, I won`t accept the fiat I will actually think about hurting you if you try and take my time in exchange for it, I will accept the bitcoin for now, but know I rather accept something else that is fairly distributed to all of humanity. (a limited but unlimited supply bitcointime) it is not created yet, but it would be KYC addresses that run a side chain on the bitcoin network, that duration is dispensed into them. It would be like the bitcoin fiat, except it can`t be printed out unlimited, it can only be distributed via duration and if you are alive to a single address that only 1 person can have 1 of.
I like to think of it as bitcoin silver and btc being bitcoin gold.

The reason I would accept the bitcoin over the fiat, is I know one is a limited, at some point in time you will have to work to get your bitcoin back, but you can always enslave me with the fiat forever.

But the reason I would accept bitcointime or bitcoinsilver  or whatever you wanna call it, is because I know all participants are creating the supply at a fair rate, not just private families creating unknown amounts.

^ btw, this is how you destroy fiat, and make btc king, so take notes satoshi. You can do it, I can`t man, you are the smart guy. I believe in you my dood, you are my only hope.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cc_h5Ghuj4

Now what if the bitcoin you hold at the end of mining becomes like POS, where it is a bonus multiplier to your bitcoin time. (increases the rate in which you receive bitcoinfiattimesilver)
BTC = GOLD
BTCsilver or BTCtime = FIAT

Please watch if you have not, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7TLFyK_3Pk this is how you fix the end game of bitcoin and end fiat peacefully.

Fiat would not be $lavery if we were all making it at the same rate ( That is not to say you could not earn more faster by self working or doing public jobs).  It would also be backed by time or duration, rather than nothing.

I hope some of you can understand this, it is really important and I am the worst person to explain it.

In my local, any kind of activity related to BTC is illegal. Before 2014, there was no law about Bitcoin, but in 2014, Bangladesh Bank applied a rule and asked people not to do any activity related to bitcoin. For doing so, one may get jailed and/or a fine.

Are you sure about that? Indeed, the central bank of Bangladesh warned in 2014 against dealing in Bitcoin , threatening that anyone caught using BTC could be jailed under the country's anti-money laundering laws. But apart from stories in some questionable sources titled like "Police on the hunt for bitcoin users in Bangladesh", I haven't managed to find any information regarding was anybody actually jailed or fined for using Bitcoin in Bangladesh.

To OP, I agree with you. I asked, and they said no.

If you randomly asked a grocery store owner/worker to accept bitcoin, not everyone knows it and how bitcoin works. So if you just randomly said it to someone, they would just probably ignore it. Unless if most customers would tell them or request that. Since the demand is high.
Still need to promote bitcoin to a lot of people, for them to consider it. (unless the owner knows bitcoin)

yah, I agree, that is the entire point of this post brother friend! spread the word, asked to get paid in bitcoin, ask anywhere you shop if they accept bitcoin or if they can, explain it to them, anywhere, hairdresser, car show, etc etc.

be like, yo I would buy this, if you accepted bitcoin or hey can I pay for this with bitcoin please, oh no you don`t accept the future yet, well ask your boss if he knows about the future? Tell your manager my dood. I do it every store I walk in.

Well, developers of Bitcoin anticipated this bans..that is why peer-to-peer trading with bitcoin is emphasized more on Bitcoin whitepaper.
I believe what will help when Bitcoin is banned is a very large autonomous cryptocurrency communities . We could trade peer-to-peer with one another on censorship resistant virtual stores/marketplaces scattered around all countries.

I actually do it from time to time. I have an official job, and there I receive my salary in local fiat and only local fiat according to the legislation. But I also do quite a lot of freelance. And when it comes to payment options, I regularly mention that I don't mind getting paid in Bitcoin. Employers usually ignore this phrase, but at least this way they hear it more often and slowly get used to the idea of Bitcoin as money.
As for grocery stores, we have chains of supermarkets, so the decisions are centralized... And honestly, considering the current priority fees, I would not want to pay for my groceries in BTC.

Title: Re: Hey Tomorrow ask your boss if you can be paid in bitcoin.
Post by: bryant.coleman on August 08, 2019, 01:54:53 PM
The idea is good. But the problem is that you are at least 10-15 years ahead of time. Right now it is not practical to receive all of your salary in the form of Bitcoin. Because for 99% of the expenses, you need to convert the Bitcoins to fiat and then use the fiat cash. This situation will definitely change in the future, but we need to be patient enough to wait until then.

For the grocery stores, accepting Bitcoin is not going to be a simple task. They need to update their billing software and if they are not using a third party processor, then they may need to deal with the volatile exchange rates and delays in getting confirmations. But the biggest headache is going to be the tax liability. The presence of Bitcoin can increase the paperwork by quite a bit.

Post by: MonsterV on August 08, 2019, 02:19:03 PM
I know there are some companies that have option to give paycheck in Bitcoin. Personaly I wouldn't like that. Bitcoin is too volatile and I like to know what amount of money I'm entitled to. Also, I have some fixed expenses every month. I still prefere my salary in fiat and after all expenses are covered I can decide how much of leftovers I will turn into Bitcoin. This is much better option for me.

It is true, when viewed in terms of its effectiveness, fiat is superior to bitcoin. Bitcoin is known as a digital currency so it is more suitable for online transactions, not payroll. I understand we all want higher adoption of bitcoin, but we cannot rule out fiat, fiat also has an important role here. Bitcoin and fiat in my opinion have their own privileges, and bitcoin is not suitable for paying salaries, I hope they understand that.

And I also agree with you, when all dependents of daily needs are met then I will invest the rest in bitcoin. Fluctuating bitcoin may be more suitable for long-term investment or daily trading, but it is not suitable for paying our salaries unless we accept with all the risks the value will not be fixed.

Well you belong to that oppressed small group of 15 oppressed countries (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory). In there you have no choice but to trust your friends only, or trust no one and stick to online activities preferably avoiding local transactions completely; with proper protection (Use Tails (http://tails.boum.org/)).

But, you should campaign and join/start an awareness movement of this misguided policy, that is only turning wealth away from your country.

I wont bother to waste up my precious time on convincing these grocery store owners to accept bitcoin since there would be still lots of explanations would be needed for you to carry on like;

-Countries laws towards crypto
-BTC volatility

These 2 thing alone will really greatly affect such owners decision.Would you have the time to explain anything? ;D

If I get money in usd, why am I slave? What's the point of your statement? And please can you clarifiy why bitcoin is salvatory?
Seems you don't know well how system works. For example if your job pays in specific bank, you can request to get payment in another bank but that will be with delays and possibly withdraw fees but you can't ask them to get cash. If you'll ask, your question will be ignored. Same on asking bitcoin too. Just tell me some reasons why your "boss" has to agree to pay you in bitcoins.

It is not so easy but it would not be a bad idea to do that really, because I am sure that when such word is spoken, to whom it is spoken would be curious to know what the system is all about, though it depends on the relationship of such staff to his boss, because that could get some staff fired, but if such staff has a relationship with his boss, he could juts use that as an opportunity to expose him to the system of cryptocurrency, and that is how the awareness starts from.

For the grocery store, they have policies too and to amend the policy would take much more than just one customer to do so, except such customers takes it upon himself to serve as a marketer and then introduce the system to the management of the grocery, and if they buy the idea, they will first think of how to implement it because it is not easy to just pay in bitcoin like that without going through some processes first.

I won't ask my local store to accept bitcoin because that will become a debate and I don't have any strong support that could help me to explain about bitcoin to them. I prefer to use fiat to buy anything from the local store until my government accepts cryptocurrency as the new payment method because the government will arrest me hahaha.

I prefer to wait until there is a local store in my country to accept cryptocurrency than to ask them to accept bitcoin. I still want to earn more bitcoin so I can sell the bitcoin at the high price ;D

Why would anyone do that, basically you will have to change it to fiat, as of now bills can be paid in bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency and i think that country with strong government like the US won't allow it , or at least not until they got no other choices.
i think the ability to pay your bills and other services = mass adoption, cause online your can pay almost  for everything or find a third party that accept bitcoin, but you re still not able to pay bills, i think in the end mass adoption will still depend on the government at least in some country.

I'm hoping it's early because I believe in blockchain and bitcoin, it wipes out all the channels and doesn't cost too much to the old bank system. But unfortunately in my country I have not allowed to trade with coin in private and general encryption money. I hope I don't have to wait too long to see that coin is accepted across the world.

I can ask my boss to pay me in Bitcoin if I have a hint that he knows about Bitcoin or a holder of Bitcoin, but unfortunately, he is not there's a lot of groceries here in our locality but they do not know or accept Bitcoin.

I can easily convert my Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to a local currency here in our country but I do love to buy things using Bitcoin and receive payments through Bitcoin, but I guess I will have to wait for more years to make this a realization, I know it's possible our country is very open to adopting Cryptocurrency.

Some people in this thread are saying that it's pointless to ask your boss to pay you in BTC or to ask store owners to accept it because they will never do that anyway. It's true that chances are very slim, and I personally think they are close to zero currently, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't ask questions as it is suggested in the OP. By asking such questions we are raising awareness about Bitcoin, and I think that the impact of such actions on Bitcoin adoption is underestimated.

Then ask your grocery store to accept it.

I`m serious, if you want to become non $laves.

Not yet practical, as much as I love to get paid in bitcoin it isn't just yet accessible and acceptable in most store in my country and would still need to exchange into a Fiat
just so I can use it. although there are numerous online stores and company that accept bitcoin in my country most of them are not a priority to be spend on. also bitcoin
still has a bad image since there have been news that involves bitcoin in a scam in my country so most people that are not familiar with bitcoin tends to avoid it and not engage
to it in any way.

Here in our country, they will just laugh you if you ask them to accept Bitcoin, so many people here are so ignorant on what is Bitcoin and it also adds that there are a lot of bad news here about Bitcoin being used by scammers in their MLM HYIP activities, and mainstream media always broadcast it.

Hey even better reason to bring it up to him. Don`t say anything about investing, just say, May I start getting paid in bitcoin instead of fiat? Is there a way we can start doing this?

constrained by rules in countries that still have not given permission for bitcoin payments for work and quite complicated too if properly paid using bitcoin because the price keeps changing so maybe our boss doesn't want to bother ,that's also if our boss knows what bitcoin is, if you don't really understand well it will be difficult

You cannot just do what you want in some country cause most countries like China have a strict policy about bitcoin. so you cannot just say what you want or you will face the bad consequences.

But thankfully, in our country, there is no reason to hold back on what you are suggesting. but it's only up to those people if they want to accept what you are suggested.

The Phillipines is a free country, Bitcoins can be used here to pay many things there are lists of the restaurants who already accept bitcoins and some other store too.

Retail stores are not going to accept cryptocurrencies anytime soon, because they need to change the billing software and it will add more complications while auditing and tax filing. So getting the salary in Bitcoin is not preferable for me now. If I get my salary in BTC, then I may need to convert it to fiat to take care of my utility bills and daily expenses.
