My favorite wallet, is the Bitcoin Core desktop wallet, is very easy to use and at the same time, allows you to maintain a Full Node to contribute to the Bitcoin network, in my case it works 24/7 and also because I consider it very safe.
I do not rule out buying a hardware wallet one day, but for the moment not, maybe with the answers of this thread someone manages to convince me, we will see...

Desktop Wallet Bitcoin Core, no hesitation.

Currently there are Bitcoin users who also use paper wallets, the safest way to generate the wallet is to download the github file and generate the wallet on a computer that has never connected to the Internet and will never connect, now we have a cold wallet.

Electrum. It does the job fast, with or without hardware wallet, depending on what you want.
I know that Bitcoin Core would be ideal, but I just I don't have the patience to leave it sync.

Mycelium has been so good for me and I have some level of sense of security using the wallet. But that is for small amount of Bitcoin. The moment my coins begins to go up to 5BTC, I'll have to switch to cold wallet. When that time comes, Trezor is my number one choice.

The true beauty of cold wallet is that you will have your Crypto secured in your Trezor and tuck it into your back pocket with absolutely nothing to worry about, since it's not connected to the internet. You can easily put all your wealth in your pocket and still sleep peacefully at night. The possibility of hacking into cold wallet is almost zero.

To save coins for a long time, it is better to use a paper wallet.
But hardware wallet is best since downloading blockchain in the future is not a good idea.
If I use permanent transfers, then I will choose electrum, for its mobility which allows me to use the wallet on my computer and phone.

I keep my bitcoin for long term investment using paper wallet, this is safest way for me, and i backup keys with many paper  :D :D. But for weekly trading/business purpose i used electrum. I never want to use hardware wallet, not because of security but sometimes i forget mini things such as USB etc. Bit careless

I use multiple types of wallets, but hardware wallet Ledger Nano S is my prefered option. I have it for almost 2 years and it was one of the best my investments in crypto world so far. Previously I held my coins on web wallets and I was sure that nothing bad won't happen to me. But later I realized that's not safe place to keep coins and bought hardware wallet.
But I still use web wallet sometimes. I'm just too lazy to connect my Ledger to PC every time when I want to send my BTC. So, I keep little BTC on web wallet for my daily needs and I also have Coinomi wallet on my mobile.

For Bitcoin and all supported altcoins i have i'm 100% for Hardware Wallets. I personally use a Trezor one and a ledger nano S. Both are very good hardware wallets, balance between safety and usability is perfect for me.

I would say that the type of wallet depends on what we need to do with cryptocurrency. For example if I want to just hold for long-term, then a paper wallet is the best choice, but private key/seed is always better to save on more durable materials like steel (engraved).

For daily use of small amounts almost any desktop/mobile wallet will serve the purpose, but for bigger amounts used on daily basis hardware wallet is the best choice.

I avoid mobile wallets, too many exploits. Air gapped hardware wallet is the best solution for me with handwritten paper being a close second only because it is less convenient.

You left off one category in your list... exchange wallets. I would bet that most people use them the most even though they are the least secure.

Yes, it is good to remember this, exchanges are surely the worst place to store your stash, whether small or large, it is a very repeated phrase but it is the reality:

As the market and Bitcoin move forward, more wallet proposals will come, I think there will be more competition in hardware wallets, easier to use, more intuitive to make work easier for new adopters.

paper wallet is the best wallet in terms of security. It is all so easy to set up so you don't have to worry about losing your Bitcoins as long as you remember where you keep it and you keep it safe from potential intruders.

Actually I don't understand this question. Why we should use wallets? What is wrong with Exchanges. Yes sometimes exchanges get hacked but. Holding your assets on Binance, Huobi, Coinbase. What's wrong with it? Why do I need to use desktop wallets or mobile wallets? What are the benefits of using it? That's just my opinion and maybe someone tell me why should I use a desktop wallet instead of exchange wallet.

Well, it all depends. I have almost all type of wallet, paper wallet for backup for some of my wallet which I made for vanity type, while for ease of use I much prefer using a mobile wallet which is mycelium, I keep using it even though its buggy wallet af.
Web wallets are for my altcoins that nano s don't support, no BTC save there, while hardware wallets is for my long term savings which I know its secured as proven, and I have the core desktop wallet though I don't store any bitcoin there, just want to contribute to the network.

im using exchanges and diffrent wallets , i move my money around much from site to site, and im a firm believe that btc should be used and not just hodled so online wallets works best for me, but if i would be a hardcore hodler i would go for a offline wallet of somekind.

I technically use desktop wallet like bitcoin and I also have a hard wallet which is the myetherwallet also at my current state or nation rather, im using this called wallet gcash, and coins.ph, since it's have two way sign in it has it own pin so I think its better to have. But nevertheless it's I prefer also the hard wallet which is MEW it has its own key, if im not mistaken it can printed it served as a password which is only for you, it can be printed, or save.

So technically we have tons of wallet but this are just wallet that I prefer you to use, feel free to surf and try more wallet and just know what suited wallet is for you.

I prefer using paper wallet, desktop wallet and mobile wallet(for faster transaction) because using those wallet are safe for me and i have their private key and anytime i can transfer my funds to another wallet and much faster and secured. And the only problem using a mobile wallet is when not synchronizing properly but still good when its online.

And i used desktop wallet since i am staking some of altcoins which is really good for me and passive income and to support their network.

I prefer Electrum, and use it for almost everything.

Cold Storage:
I used an air-gapped pc to create a seed.  The advantage is you have many addresses to which you can send your coins, which helps preserve your privacy.  You can send any amount you want to each address, and if you need to spend them you can choose which coins (unspent Tx) or address from which you want to spend.  You can easily keep an eye on the whole wallet by using the master public key to create a watch only wallet.

Hardware:
I find Electrum much more useful than the native UI offered by Trezor, Ledger, and KeepKey (the only HW wallets I own.)  I have more control over my unspent transactions, addresses, and fees.  Again, I can use the master public key to create watch only wallets.  Electrum can be used to manage every aspect of a hardware wallet with the exception of firmware updates.

Hot wallet:
It's nice to have a hot wallet that you can access from your desktop quickly and easily.  I use the same wallet on my phone, and only keep a couple of hundred dollars worth of bitcoin in it.

Watch only wallets:
One of my favorite features of Electrum.  You can create watch only versions of any wallet you own.  I find it very convenient for my hardware and cold wallets.  I can extract public addresses for receiving bitcoin without having to start up my air-gapped PC (and restore my cold seed,) or go through the steps required to access my hardware wallets.  I can easily confirm incoming transactions, and check my balances.

Sure there are other desktop wallets with many of these features, but I haven't found one that I like and trust as much as Electrum.

I prefer paper wallets purely from security reasons. I know I may use and I also have a hardware wallet, but since I don't use BTC regularly and I also don't trust 3rd party apps I keep my BTC in a paper wallet. Maybe I am a bit paranoid but it is just the way I am  ;D

I prefer Electrum for Bitcoin and MyEtherWallet for ETH (+ERC20 tokens) and other Ethash coins. Both wallets offer possibility to use cold storage of assets. I don't beleive in Exchange wallets after Poloniex stealed about 1000 USD in BTC from my lending account in June 2019.

I trust the Electrum wallet for bitcoin and is one of the oldest software-based bitcoin wallet, and so far I feel comfortable using the electrum wallet and as long as I feel comfortable and there is no problem I will continue to use it.

I prefer hardware wallet. I have been using trezor wallet for a long time. It is quite useful and very easy to use. I have never had any problem with it since beginning.
On the other hand if i had a bigger portfolio and larger amount of bitcoin, i would prebably prefer paper wallet.

Hardware wallets are still not 100% safe. There have been exploits on known brands such as Ledger and Trezor

My best wallet so far for mobile is huobi wallet while my best desktop wallet is atomic wallet because it is allows you manage several assets with different blockchains. It also allows for swap that allows you to exchange your tokens for other tokens or coins.
My best hardware wallet is trezor Wallet by the way.

i prefer web wallet or online wallet because its easy for me. i know web wallet or online wallet has high risk from hacker or anything but you can set google authenticator to more safety. the advantage of online wallet are you only have to save the private key not hardward like you know that hardware can broken, and easy to use for me.

For coins that i want to lock away for years to come i use paper wallet but for coins that use from time to time especially in trading i use mobile wallet e.g trust wallet and coinomi wallet, honestly hardware wallets are way better, i just can't afford one for now

I store my assets on my android tablet. I prefer using it than my mobile. For Bitcoin I have been using Mycelium wallet for a long time now and for other cryptocurrencies I prefer using Atomic wallet.

For Ethereum based token I prefer using Metamask. Earlier I was using MEW but the new design and layout is complicated for me.

For security reason i trust only hardware wallet or paper wallet, i been hack before and i really hope you guys make the right choise for you.

the wallet that I like is nano ledger or trezor because the  nano leadger or trezor wallet is safe and not easy to hack, it's simple and we can carry it anywhere and like having a personal wallet cryptocurrency  :-X

I use 4 wallets actually.

For my "stash" i use ledger live combined with ledger nano X.

For my day to day needs, i use blockchain.info web app, which has nice interface for btc and eth.

For tokens, i use MEW, and for "the rest" i use an exchange like binance and bittrex. I know, not safe, but it's not big amounts.

I use the Internet of Coins wallet. Not only because I work on the project, but also because it's the only one I know that bundles hundreds of coins from all blockchains in one wallet, without too much BS, that lets me keep my own private keys.

I started with Coinbase to get my feet wet.  As a miner though I wanted something a bit more secure.  Today I ordered a lodger nano x.

ELECTRUM is my favorite...
make segwit address very easy, minimal problems, Cheap transaction fees unlike other platforms, and usage is very easy to understand.

When it comes to wallet choosing I don't have a desktop computer so I go mobile wallet, and to be frank am now getting to know the categories of where the wallets belong. Which means I had no ideas before, Thanks for this information.

If you want to run a node just run a node without your coins there.

Get a hardware wallet because there is a chance you want security for your hardware wallet supported shitcoins too.

Only shitcoins that have no hardware wallet support are in desktop wallets.

Besides hardware wallets are getting fancy, they work as a hardware key which is better than time based 2FA., no matter how good the hacker is, he will never be able to press the "authenticate" button on that hardware wallet hehe.

Now..i know you are not getting a hardware wallet ..until you lost your coins LOL so don't be stingy, grab at least 2 for backup purposes. Trezor 1 is a lot cheaper now. Trezor model T have more compatability as a key, just read info on hardware wallets and get the one you need.

In my opinion the best wallet for security is buying a phisically SSD/HDD and install there official wallets of the coins you want to hold . I do not like web wallets . It could happen again vulnerability issue like myetherwallet

Very happy with both the Nano S and Nano X.  The only reason you should go with the Nano X though is if you need more space for multiple wallets or you pay for items on the go.

Actually one shouldn't have a preferred wallet or marry a wallet, but! If I had to do it to the only one that would give those concessions would be the paper wallet.

In reality, your preferred portfolio should not be known by anyone, in reality my satoshis do not make me a millionaire today, but in the very distant future perhaps.  8)

Those of us who are in this world of bitcoin collecting, plowing, and in general one day we trade, another day we go to a casino, another day we sell, it is difficult for me to have a preferred wallet, the preferred one is the one that best suits the moment.

So, even some exchanges become "temporary" favorites, for example, a few thousand, sometimes millions of satoshis, for my security tastes, stay in LBTC, I have others on Atomix which is the one I use on my smartphone.

For me, I prefer hardware wallets to store my currencies for a long period of time, these wallets are very safe and difficult to steal, but if I want to store money for a short period, I store them in the wallets connected to the Internet and the blockchain wallet is among the best wallets connected to the Internet

As far as I know hardware wallet is much more expensive that's why I prefer mobile wallet most. Because it is very easy to access use and control but we need to be aware when using any mobile wallet about security.
So if you choose mobile wallets then choose the best one by doing own research.

Absolutely the safest way for paper wallet user. To be open, I prefer paper wallet because I'm kind of new to this different method of getting safe wallets but I find it easy to create safe wallet with paper wallet.. I use to feel unsafe with third party apps too and since the day myetherwallet.com got compromised and peoples funds were stolen, I've been like how can we be truly safe.
I think this creation of wallet that will never be connected to the Internet is the safest way.

My preference is a hardware wallet and i've been a Ledger customer for a few years now.

I personally love monarch wallet, its a mobile wallet as well as desktop, the mobile version runs on both Android devices and iPhone devices, the desktop runs on Mac and windows though it's been long this two were updated last as the devs are more focused on the mobile versions, the wallet is very safe and supports a lot crypto including bitcoin, ethereum, ripple, stellar, bitcoin cash, neo and gas, litecoin, slp and Erc20 tokens and some others I can't remember, you can earn interest on your crypto which is piad to your wallet every week, it also has a built-in exchange feature where ethereum can be swapped for other Erc20 tokens and vise versa, you can also buy or sell bitcoin, ethereum or bitcoin cash with your credit or debit card though this feature is limited to some countries and kyc is required to be able to. A lot of features plus a very nice UI, check the app out on any of the platforms... Google play store, iPhone app store, windows or Mac version

I think it's possible to keep Bitcoin in all of the wallets listed above. Alternatively, we can keep them on mobile wallets or reputable centralized exchanges like Coinbase.
I don't have a lot of Bitcoins and so I don't matter where to put them as long as it's convenient for my Bitcoin use.

I dont have computer thats why when it comes to mobile wallet i choose trust wallet, i dont use other wallet rather than trust wallet because i think its asecure wallet.. And warning to those who download wallet on playstore, be careful you might download the fake one.

Trust wallet is a good choice but you also can consider electrum for storing bitcoin which will diversify your assets so even if one of your keys got hacked then you may have something on the other.

I use trustwallet for recieving eth and ither alts and it also allows me to trade also on uniswap.  But when it comes to btc i use blockchain wallet.

For my savings and long term hold I would use hardware wallets or  paper wallet.
For the crypto that I would be using for time to time I could use mobile wallet.
But the best for me is the hardware wallets since they have the highest security when it comes to protecting our crypto.

For me, it's a matter of going with what your used to as, it feels wrong to condemn that which you ain't used to. I'm very much used to the ELECTRUM WALLET and so far it haven't given me any serious problem except for the fees though, it varies with period and it's dependent on blockchain congestion which is a cryptosphere thing but then, the fee is my only issue otherwise, it's a cool wallet. Easy to navigate and set up. You can recover your wallet with ease so long as your seed phrase is intact and so, I'm okay with ELECTRUM at the moment.

Can you make a list of your preferred paper wallets...?

I mostly use desktop based wallets because I feel safe and secure with it for storing my bitcoin earnings. I seldom use mobile based app wallets because phones were prone for information stealer since we install unknows apps sometimes and mostly of apps access private files on our phone leaving our information vulnerable.

Best for me have been decentralized soft wallets, I mean I have a hardware wallet I barely use and barely got funds in there. Soft wallet works best for me but it comes with a great deal of trust and care

I prefer paper wallet. So far, I've been using paper wallet for every kind of wallet I want to create. I find it easy and safe to create and use.

After my Web wallet was hacked, I started using the Trust Wallet mobile wallet. I liked it, and the storage and exchange of coins and tokens. Tools are always at hand. You can carry out operations at any time.

Trezor, together with their Trezor Suite.

Easy to use, pretty interface and they are still working on it to make it better

Trust wallet is probably the best mobile wallet I’ve ever used. Being able to stake or convert coins right in the wallet is a pretty huge feature. I also like Electrum for the desktop. It’s got a lot of great features without needing much in the way of hardware or setup time.

as far as I know, Trust Wallet is not open-source.
That's the only deal-breaker i see.

At the beginning of my crypto journey, since im just a newbie that time, im only using an online wallet in which is i think the most user friendly for beginners but when i actually heard some sort of people getting hack, i was kinda worried. Recently i bought trezor, im still not use to it but with hardware wallet, im more confident that im not going to lose all my hard earned coins.

I use hardware wallet for savings or long term investment, I used web wallet for micro transactions so my money in my web wallet is just small amount and I use software wallets for regular transactions. I don't choose paper wallet since it's vulnerable to natural elements I think you should also consider mnemonic metal wallets to store your private keys.

I have been using a bit of a mix over the last 7 years or so. Mainly I have been using my Trezor but that was before Metamask was a thing and before BlockFi and other websites where you can earn interest on your holdings. Now I hold a portion in my Trezor and the remaining on wherever it's possible to earn a solid return without a high level of risk.

I will prefer hardware wallet for storing coins. I think this is the best kind of wallet for storing crypto coins offline. Hardware wallets are offline and totally decentralized that we can only open this wallet with private keys. And it is available in hardware form. So, we can store it at a safe place. Where no one knows about this wallet.

If I remember correctly, Trustwallet was acquired by binance in 2018 and they announced trustwallet is an open source project. and I feel secure when using it because this is a product acquired and developed by the team of binance, the world's largest exchange today.

I have used Trust Wallet, it is easy to use and you are right: Binance bought it.
Binance, which is an exchange you are supposed to trust your coins, it is now the owner of a wallet you are supposed to trust as well.

Well, I would like to share my opinion.

Best of the best!
If you're looking to get security and also have a storage for holding crypto , hardware wallet  is one of the best options.
There are also paper wallets, it is an interesting alternative, but the hardwallet is more advantageous in all aspects.

DESKTOP
Better options, Electrum and Wasabi, if you don't have the purchasing power to buy hardware wallet, these two are good alternatives.
Wasabi being focused on privacy, it has the option to mix the coins to preserve user anonymity.
Electrum, on the other hand, is good, one of the things I like most about Electrum is that it can be used by an inexperienced user, but it also has several relevant features that can help from the less experienced user to a crypto specialist.
By the way, getting away from the theme, if someone wants to use a wallet for ETH (and other tokens, including ERC20) MeW is an interesting and valid choice.

MOBILE
Mycelium and Electrum, both are good, I don't advise to store huge amounts of crypto in mobile wallet, I think it's interesting you have a certain amount of Bitcoin in these wallets, because depending on the situation, it can be useful nowadays.

Imagine trusting a wallet that's basically called Trust.

If it wasn't for Binance, I wouldn't even know it existed.

As attacks are made on crypto stuff in the coming months, only the most decentralized wallets will survive. These wallets can not be identified as being controlled by any identifiable group of people..... who can be leaned on by the attackers.  I believe EXODUS will lose massive amounts of people in the years to come as it is not a decentralized wallet anymore....

Electrum wallet no hard feelings. Very easy for me to operate that is why i prefer it for exchange.

Honestly, for now I used mobile wallet like trust wallet and Tron wallet apps in the mobile.
Aside from this matter, Nothing else unless I have Bitcoin of course I will use Electrum as my cold wallet
for it. Then most of my coin was stored at Binance exchange and Kucoin just like that.

Both desktop wallet and hardware wallet which of the wallet have the highest security level, I don't know about this wallet except this popular trust wallet and wallet we can derived from all this exchange and my mind go directly that they are the strongest  place we can keep our coins.

Paper wallet is it, it seem to me to be the best and safest way to keep my crypto asset. So I literally don't joke with it.

It is if you use an open source, secure program to generate the keys on an air-gapped computer.
Even if you do it correctly, you have to be careful and not to spill your coffee/water on your paper-wallet.

If you are holding more than 200$ please get a Trezor or any other harware wallet, they are worth it.

Well when i started off using bitcoin, web wallets were the go to option for me but since I got to understand that if your dont control or have control of the private key then the coins are really not yours... Hence i was forced to move to mobile and desktop wallets which give you total control of your coins with access to your private keys.

I use a paper wallet where the Bitcoin that I save is intended as my retirement fund later, and I store it in a safe box.
For trading activities I have a hardware wallet (Trezor) which I bought in 2018, but yesterday suddenly my Trezor died and I couldn't access my crypto there.
I just regret this, where my hardware wallet suddenly died.
As a consideration, paper wallets are the best choice as long as you can take care of them properly, because paper wallets are very vulnerable like paper money.

When do you connect it to your computer to access your wallet does it prompt the option to introduce your Pin?
Perhaps it is just the screen, which you could replace if you are tight on money.

When I connect Trezor to the laptop, the screen on the hardware wallet does not turn on. That's why I can't access it at all. I still keep the pins and phrases safely.
Can I replace the screen by myself, without having to do service to Trezor? if possible i will take the risk to replace it myself here.

What I meant is: if you connect your Trezor to your laptop normally the wallet will show you the pop-up for you to enter your pin, if this still happens with your broken screen, then it means your device it is fine and it may need a new screen.

On the other hand, if you connect your wallet and Trezor Suite does not react or detect it at all, perhaps it is something else broken besides the screen.

The only difficulty I see is you will have to improvise to seal off the wallet again, after the reparation.
And for God's sake, do not hire anyone to fix your wallet for you, it is dangerous.

I will try again later, when my Trezor screen does not turn on when I connect the Trezor to my laptop I immediately unplug it without seeing if a pop up appears on my laptop screen. Thank you for the help and advice given. I will see the link you provided

I have never owned or used a hardware wallet, but they look so cool, hopefully one day will get to buy them ;D , for other wallets, I use trust wallet for in phone because almost every coin and chain is supported I guess? Mycelium UI for phone is cooler but it's only for two major coins at the moment I think. For desktop, atomic wallet I used to have, but hardly use it anymore. Exodus desktop wallet I love because the UI is so nice and friendly :)

Electrum is my favourite. maybe because I'm used to this wallet. In terms of its fast operation, it is the main attraction for me not to move to another wallet. but somehow in the future

Mobile wallet, Electrum with ease and certain level of convenience for me.
