Title: What happens if Bitcoin Dominance increases by more than 80%?
Post by: kevinzxz on August 11, 2019, 02:33:55 PM
in my opinion what will happen is :
1. the price of Bitcoin will increase very high, because there will be many investors who are interested to investing in Bitcoin, thus making the price of Bitcoin will increase very high
2. many coin whose prices will go down or even those coin will disappear, because no investor will invest in the coin
3. exchange between Bitcoin and altcoin will have a small volume, because investors will definitely be more interested in exchanging Bitcoin with currencies (EUR, CHF, USD, NZD, YEN, and others).

that is my thought if BTC Dominance increased to more than 80%, then what about your opinion?

Thank You.

If Bitcoin dominance will be higher than 80% than altcoins will start growing an d will show a good raising in price. So neathing fantastic. Circle of altcoins crypto price will return again and again from time to time.

The investors will be putting more and more their altcoin to the bitcoin but not all of altcoins will be going down but altcoin which was having real product related with bitcoin will keep its rate like CRPT or binance. The price of altcoin will be pushed by bitcoin caused by the domination of bitcoin keeps increase even more.
This will create not a good environment for altcoin.

given the current market performance, i think we're going to get 80%, so what's going to happen? that the altcoin will disappear almost all save the main ones(eos, eth, neo, monero etc),and the price of btc will skyrocket

I think domination will be only 51%, this is like a controlling stake. The fact is that if you look at investing, then everyone chooses 50% btc and part of the altcoins. If you look from this point of view, then the domination will be about 51-54%. Because everyone chooses his own portfolio.

If bitcoin really hits 80% dominance I don't think all of altcoins that are not included on top 10 will just vanish into thin air. They will definitely still exist but just with relatively low volume compared to bitcoin but if the market capitalization of the overall cryptocurrency market is rising, huge chance the amount of daily volume will be the same.

I don't think bitcoin will now ever reach a 80% dominance. There are many new coins and many of them are stablecoins issued in large amounts. They'll act as a buffer controlling the prices of all alts including bitcoin. There are many of new coins that are yet to be listed on exchanges or are to be shown by coinmarketcap. Even if it increased in price sharply, bitcoin would not be able to achieve a 80% dominance.

Should the dominance of bitcoin continue to grow at that rate then most altcoins are likely to die in some few years to come. Already most of the altcoins are decreasing in value owing to to the high demand for bitcoin and the rise in price of bitcoin. Clearly most investors would rather put their money in bitcoin than to invest in any altcoin.

I think your analysis is pretty correct.
But the real question is: will btc ever get 80% market dominance?
I don't think so.
BTC is already 9 years old and the crypto market is around 7 years old.

The market and tech has matured to the point where I think it's impossible for btc to have more than 70% market share
Right now, it seems like btc is the only thing that is doing well and just continues to dominate.
But other projects will come to rise and take big chunks of the market.
After all, btc is almost always only an entry point for investors.

I think that he would make the whole market grow and the proportion would remain. If the altcoin market will grow. That bitcoin dominance will decrease. I think that the more coins the less the dominance of bitcoin. And if you consider that not all projects will be scammers, then more than that.

I think many are already interested with bitcoin even with the kind of dominance it has now, And as you see this dominance will just continue to grow but as it grows I think that other Altcoin will surely keep on pressing on and if bitcoin increases so are other decentralized Altcoins, because bitcoin is backing up other Altcoins.

2. many coin whose prices will go down or even those coin will disappear, because no investor will invest in the coin

Well if there are coins that will disappear there will still coins that will surely stay because those coins have already established their own popularity I guess Ethereum is one of them, there is a lot that will surely stay and will continue to increase along Bitcoin dominance.

When this happens, I believe the price of some altcoins will just evaporate and never recover again, because the price of bitcoin will just keep going higher and higher. No one really wants to stay in an investment that destroys their portfolio. And some exchanges may as well just close down due to lack of volume and traders from altcoin traders.

in my opinion you are right if the price of Bitcoin will definitely increase very high if Bitcoin dominance becomes 80%, but it will not affect for the price of altcoin to go down, because if market cap also increases then I am sure the price of altcoin will also increase very high like the price of Bitcoin, although not all altcoin prices will increase (only altcoin has good product and idea whose prices will increase).

dominance already around ~70%, its very high because we have too many altcoins compared to last year. If dominance will rise more - all altcoins will die.

I don't think 80% of dominance is possible for bitcoin. I'm quite surprised to see it rise about 70% in 2019. Bitcoin surely had a head start but it's too primitive in comparison to many of advanced altcoins. Even it's fork Bitcoincash has better technological advancements in recent time while bitcoin remains as an old person not able to catch up with the time. Soon other alt coins would take away the spotlight and the dominance.

That's what I think too if Bitcoin dominance of bitcoin increases to 80%. Certainly altcoin will follow the trend of bitcoin. At least altcoin such as Ethereum, Litecoin, BNB and other top 10 altcoins will definitely increase.

That's very high and could be the highest gap Bitcoin had over altcoins, we will see many altcoins dropping their value and probably losing their market share and if that happens we will see developers abandoning their token/coin.

One thing that has remained constant over the years is unpredictability of the cryptocurrency market, in my opinion, if we see a BTC dominated market of up to 80%, I would not fully discount Altcoins because we might see a sudden push back that might lead to the greatest altszn of all time, I have learnt never to underestimate Altcoins.

What happens if Bitcoin Dominance increases by more than 80%?

For that you only need Bitcoin at $16000. How hard you believe that can happen?

This will be a disaster for many holders of Altcoins as more and more people will start pouring their unprofitable coins into Bitcoin in the hope that the coin will continue to grow and people will be able to recapture their losses. But I hope that bitcoin will never capture the market over 80%.

BTC dominance level doesn't affect anything. This is a consequence, not a cause. And I doubt this figure may return to 80% someday in future. There are too many altcoins now.

Your thoughts are absolutely right mate.  The BTC dominance seems to head to hit 80% too. Already it passed 71%, only 9% left and after that many altcoins will lose investors and traders. Because everyone will move to Bitcoin. I love altcoins too, but if it really happens then maybe I will sell my 80% of altcoins.

I don't think Bitcoin dominance would increase by 80%! Because it's huge, even when ABTC price hit 19K USD, altcoin had good dominance too. But I don't know the future, so, it happens, I don't assume that the top 100 altcoin's investor will leave it to invest in Bitcoin. Because some altcoins have very good potential with very good technology.

Nothing, only altcoin hodlers will have hard times to keep the selling pressure.
Remember, we do not know which altcoins will survive, but we could be sure, that some of them will change the world.

if you are asking what will happen if the "magical" figure of 80% dominance is achieved , the answer is - nothing
it is not like there is a switch that goes off if a certain dominance threshold is reached , its a process
bitcoin dominance means that more people trust/buy bitcoin than all of the altcoins combined
and there is a reason behind that , bitcoin is called the gold of cryptocurrencies and serves as a standard to which all of the challengers are compared
bitcoin earned the position it is in because no altcoin has offered anything revolutionary that could dethrone bitcoin , it also has the first market presence advantage
if bitcoin dominates with more than 70% ( which is highly unlikely ) , it would signal its price increase
no , like this - the price will skyrocket! and all of the altcoins will share the success inevitably , just on a lower scale

This will mean that there will high manipulation from whales , majority of other coins will vanish , they will simply become a pump and dump coin because it will be very hard to see investors, bitcoin price will be very high !

*  You're quite right about more investors to be interested in bitcoin once it dominant 80% of the crypto market.
* Number 2, Many altcoin will vapourize but some altcoin will still follow the momentum surge in the price of bitcoin and that depends on the altcoins level of support, concept, utility etc.
 * For number,3 the decision made by the arbitrage will determine that.

I believe it is possible that BTC dominance will reach 80%. The question is for how long it will stay above 80%. If it just touch it and return to 55-65% it wont make any issue, but if it stay for a longer period, it could harm many altcoins.

It's not far from reality, we are almost at 70% BTC dominance now. But as to what will be the effect on altcoin market? Obviously, it will continue to bleed and altcoins investors are going to suffer more. Unless they quickly decided to move out and just put their money on BTC.

But as for altcoin's smart investors, I'm pretty sure that they already shift their funds when the price of BTC touches $6000 this year. Remember that after hitting a all-time-low (ATL) of $3200, BTC suddenly went on a mini-bull run. So for those altcoins investors who get out early, it's a bold move but it is very rewarding. Not saying that the rest of altcoin investors to jump on the BTC bandwagon today, but it you can't make money out of the altcoin market right now, you need to think of other options, IMHO.

Bitcoin dominance is already high and achieving 80% would not be too far from happening. The adoption is increasing day by day because of the merchants, shops and big companies which are starting to include btc as their payment method. So I would not be surprised if btc will increase its price in the coming months. However, altcoins should establish their use case or applications in the market to stay relevant in this game. Many will disappear as most of them were created for the sake of devs' profits and the likes.

I think bitcoin will become extremely bullish and this bullish moment will transfer to alts sooner or later as well so i think that market volume will start booming too reaulting in growth in alts as well something like we saw in last bull season.

If the dominance of Bitcoin increases more than 80%, we are sure that the price will really reach the bullrun. And when the bullrun happen, it means that it will be also better for the altcoins seasons. Probably at first, this will really influence the price of altcoins, decreasing maybe. But of course, if the BTC price is stable on that increase, altcoins price will also go up high and reach another Bullrun for several coins that have good hype and progress.
