Title: Bitcoin market dominance, Good for altcoins or Not
Post by: BayAngelo on August 12, 2019, 08:35:10 AM
The cryptomarket keeps on fluctuating with current market cap below 300 billion at the market. the bitcoin market dominance has reach all time high of 68.6% as time of writing. what effect does this have on altcoins. i think think it spell doom for altcoin if bitcoin will dominate the current market leaving the entire altcoins with nothing.

Just look at the market and you will answer this question by your own. While BTC is raising in price nearing to hit 12k, all other major altcoins are not moving at all. One month ago ETH was around 300 USD and dropped by 50 percent.

The bitcoin market dominance will eventually go down. There is no doubt about it. That doesn't mean we will have an alt-season right away. The biggest problem with altcoins are excessive inflation and dilution. It will take time for the market to absorb all that.

Both the positive and negative impacts happens due to the fluctuations in the price of bitcoin.Actually it decide the price of rest altcoins in the market. The dominance of bitcoin will be good to the altcoins. If the price of bitcoin reaches maximum, many will start to inverse on bitcoin and other potential altcoin.

unfortunately i do not believe that the growth of the dominance (currently 70%) of bitcoin is good for the altcoin, rather the contrary many will be delisted and will disappear, and the main ones will go down a lot of value...

Focusing more on your subject matter; bitcoin dominance is a positive vibe for altcoins but equally a negative influence because the more bitcoin pumps or dumps; it leaves altcoins in a limbo causing drop in prices and panics

You are right and this scenario is most like developing where alts can suffer even more but the good thing is that even if the btc continues its uptrend and dominancy in the end the bulls impact of btc will definitely transfer to alts resulting in massive alt boom as well so there is nothing much to worry it is just about being more patient.

The all time high dominance of bitcoin is higher. Just look at the charts.
Any way, I remember bitcoin dominance was about 90% l, but altcoins suddenly started to rise. So, everything is possible.

It does not really matter much because even if the bitcoin dominance grows to over 75 percent but market volume also grows with it then there is no real threat for alts but yes if volume stays the same or lowers while btc dominance increases then it will definitely impact negatively on the peice of altcoins.

The Bitcoin dorminance shows the that Bitcoin is the key leader in the blockchain. The effect of the dorminance have negative impact on altcoin because 99% of altcoin are trade with btc . This dorminance is good for altcoin and Bitcoin get corrected and stabilize ,altcoin will then rise . Only altcoin with use cases will rise, that just my opinion.

Bitcoin creates leadership and control over altcoin and this is why every coin has pair with bitcoin. The dominance makes other coins predictable in the since that, we know that no coin would just fluctuate and go pass bitcoin for now. If there was equal competition, it would have made prediction difficult.

on the contrary , bitcoin price increases and it is rising faster than the dominance % in relative figures
this means that alts will eventually increase in price because of this , bitcoin will drag it up
the vast majority of the coins are traded not only against  USD but also against BTC and their value correlated to btc price movement
altcoin prices will rally once the bullish fatigue sets in for bitcoin , this is  working for both  established coins like etherium and litecoin and the relatively unknown shitcoins out of the top 100
at the moment the future so bright for the altcoins , many of them are losing value  lets wait when the bull dust settles
but I see this as the nearly biblical distinction between "clean " and "unclean " alts - the ones that have no substance behind them will continue to lose  value
while the top alts like ripple, eth, ltc will keep up with bitcoin

bitcoin gets more dominance, that means more people are trusting it and it will change the altcoin holder's opinion. These altcoin holders will start to sell some and move that amounts to the bitcoin.
Altcoin will get less domination that means if the demand for altcoin has already changed to the bitcoin. It's about a suggestion that has been made by the increase of bitcoin domination to the altcoin.

I think that so far, Bitcoin is always dominant than altcoins, moreover, about the price on the market. This first crypto really influences the prices of all altcoins. The volatility of BTC so far sometimes makes the altcoins dropped easily, after increasing a little bit. It is not good. But this is normal and the condition of the exact market. For me, it doesn't matter, if the price of BTC is dominant and stable enough, I believe that the price of altcoins can follow increasing. Hopefully yes.

I am thinking that if btc dominance went up to more than 70% it can be a good sign and might see some sideways on the graph and because of that alts might have pumps and that's what I am waiting for. All of my holdings got rekt and hoping for a come back but still market is unpredictable that we can even see dump within an hour.

for now the dominance of bitcoin is still not good for altcoin. because altcoin is still showing a declining trend, it can be seen in the big altcoin, etherum. but when referring to the chart in previous years, etherum still has a big chance to go up high by more than $ 1000.

if BTC still dominates market capitalization, then altcoin will be difficult to go to the moon,
because all market references are still based on bitcoin, and whatever happens BTC must dominate at least under 50% of market capitalization so that altcoin can go to the moon.
and of course this also affects the continuity of altcoin in the future.

yes indeed the incident always happens throughout the year, BTC continues to rise leaving Altc. but when BTC dropped, altc also dropped. maybe rising BTC prices have an adverse effect on altc prices. I also don't know why it's always like this whether altc might need investment supplies to catch up with BTC. but I think this is just a result of losing popularity between altc and BTC, which makes investors prefer BTC as their best investment place.

Not good for altcoin, but it depends on how you look at it. If you only have a little capital, you better buy bitcoin. And sell when bitcoin dominance is low. Follow the market flow. But if you have a lot of capital, you better buy altcoin gradually.

the only difference that this so called "dominance" does is to fool newbies into buying or selling altcoins. when the dominance is small they are fooled into thinking altcoins are good so they invest, then they get dumped on and as prices fall that dominance rises and they again are forced to sell this time.
in the end there is no real effects on future of altcoins because newbies don't affect the market that much. and altcoins are on the same dying direction because the are pump and dumps. as a result we will keep seeing this marketcap ration go up and down as altcoins get pumped and then die.

You can see your wallet, is your altcoin going up or not? if you invest with altcoin which is close to bitcoin rankings, it is likely that the price will follow the bitcoin chart. yes but not all of them but altcoin usually follows the bitcoin price chart. but believe that there will be time for altcoin to grow prices again.

In my opinion, if the dominance of bitcoin at the 68% level continues long, it will not be good for altcoin. Investors will be more inclined to choose bitcoin because there is no certainty of market conditions. In addition, new projects will be hampered in collecting funds from the sale of tokens because each investor prefers to hold bitcoin

All market parameters are oscillatory. The time will come when Bitcoin will lose position to altcoins. It would be nice if this happened because of improving the quality of the average project, and not because of the number of projects.

Of course, the dominance of bitcoin in the market adversely affects altcoins. If this situation continues, we can see the massive closure of many projects. I would not want events to develop according to this scenario.

Bitcoin dominance is not good for altcoins. this makes altcoin easy to manipulate when bitcoin moves. especially now that there are too many altcoins on the market. so this makes altcoin difficult to develop.

When Bitcoin market dominance start coming down then altcoins will start their up move. It is very difficult for altcoins to rise till the dominance of bitcoin will not start dropping or stay at any level.
More simply, bitcoin dominance is not a good thing for altcoin because of the energy source that gives bitcoin more dominance and power over time, all generated from altcoin, whenever the dominance of Bitcoin achieve at high levels, altcoin always going down and losing the green season. But besides, it's not good for altcoin but it's good for us when the value of bitcoin increases, we hold more bitcoin will be a good thing, almost all of us have certain expectations on bitcoin, so hopefully bitcoin dominance should be reasonable, it should still create conditions for altcoin to be balanced, everyone will be happy.

People tend to wrongly use market domination (bitcoin, altcoins). This indicator should be used in combination with at least one supplementary indicator: total daily volume (bitcoin, altcoin).

- Total market cap of bitcoin, altcoins (by excluding bitcoin)
- Total volume of bitcoin, altcoins (by excluding bitcoin)

I meant if dominance rate of bitcoin increases, it implies people spend more money to invest in bitcoin. However, this indicator itself is not enough to judge that investors reduce their capital invest in altcoins. If total daily volume of altcoins still increase or even stable; I don't call that altcoins have been on their downward direction. Because demands on altcoins remain stable or even rising. It is a good signal, in my opinion.

Let's recap, to neutrally assess market condition, we should apply a combination of two indicators:
- Total market cap of bitcoin, altcoins
- Total daily volume of bitcoin, altcoins.
Let's observe their trends in time series plots before jumping in conclusions or making forecasts.

It's a tie now, bitcoin is dropping at these times now if you will notice it. But the bitcoin dominance remains stable and strong at 68.5%.

The more bitcoin dominance grows, the interest for altcoin investments will fall, and this is of course very bad for those who have invested or want to invest in altcoins.
It's not literally falling but the movement for altcoins is stagnant. They aren't falling IMO, the increase that everyone expected for them was sort of delayed because of btc's dom. But you are right with that pattern, if btc's dom. keeps rising, more delay will come for the rise of alts.

I think this is the true state of the cryptocurrency market today. As far as i see it more investors are jumping on Bitcoin bandwagon and selling their altcoin holdings resulting in Altcoin price dump, and because of these the bitcoin price was rallying againts most of the altcoins. I think the accumulated growth of Bitcoin was organic and not a bubble this time and sadly its not good on the altcoins side. This is just my personal opinion and im not an expert!

I believe that you are right, the growth of BTC dominance clearly affects the price of altcoins. Of course, there are some altcoins that show more or less positive growth dynamics, but altcoins suffer from the total weight of the product. Let's hope that in the near future we will still see the altcoin season and this will refresh the crypto market.

The present Bitcoin dominance of the market is very bad for the entire market. It is the percentage in dominance that I often check whenever I visit the coinmarketcap site. I feel bad knowing that bitcoin controls 69%. Altcoins will not rise well with that level of dominance by bitcoin. I hope the dominance goes down to create room for growth for Altcoins.

altcoin will have the same time as BTC today, the thing that has to happen in altcoin is altcoin must really control the real market and master each of their sales targets, if altcoin is really really accepted in the real market then I think altcoin will be king in various target markets.

This bitcoin dominance would not be the first of its kind, bitcoin has had series of dominance in the past and we have seen its effect on altcoins already and how altcoins later bounced back, this also happened in 2017, while bitcoin was dominating the market, altcoins were going down in value, it was not very visible then because most of them were very high in price because of the hype of ICO.

But this time around, bitcoin dominance came when the altcoins were still in the bear market, so it added to why majority of them are having very discouraging value right now, but altcoins season will come very soon and we will see some of them spike in price once again, but before their season, we have to still depend on bitcoin to go sideways for investors to start putting money into altcoins.

In brief:
The more pressure on altcoins to burry them into deeply mud, the bigger momentum they have to bounce back. Altcoins simply need a right time and a trigger to bounce back. It seems that we already have a trigger for altcoin season, that come from SEC. Bitcoin started to fall, why not seriously and positively think of altcoin season, started from today?

I can't lie that it has been HORRIBLE for altcoins so far, its not even remotely close to have a silver lining in it and so far it has been just pure awful drops in price for all altcoins. That is why I am not sure if we can really find a good thing in this for all altcoins.

Maybe we can say that dominance is so high that eventually altcoins will have to skyrocket and thats how we can make so much money, I know it sounds absurd because we have been saying that for over a year now but since the dominance got super high lately maybe this time it is actually true who knows. I really don't see anything that could be considered good but as far as we know maybe a huge bull run for all altcoins are brewing these days and if that happens than we will say thank god this dominance happened however until than it looks like everything about this is bad.

actually the dominance of bitcoin trading always happens, and it will definitely give effect to the movement of the crypto market. if the demand from bitcoin is too high and makes altcoin not interested in trading, or there will be a dump for altcoin then it will be bad. altcoin disposal if bitcoin goes up it definitely happens, we won't be able to stem it.

actually such growth is also good for investments that will go into bitcoin, but if there is no emphasis on growth and demand for bitcoin, altcoin could be very bad.

I have said this time without number that, Bitcoin dorminance over Altcoins is a good one because this signifies the true meaning if cryptocurrency and the power of the mainstream. This will give the upcoming projects more thoughtful thought to enhance their project in order to be useful to the community and also have a workable product. Many projects lack this and Bitcoin is then taking the advantage of this to dominate.

Good, if you believe that altcoin season will come. I mean you buy now and sell later.
Bad, if you buy now and altcoins will not go up. Is it possible? Of course, still altcoins in top 100 gained thousands of percents from the beginning (ICO).

There's a consensus that the higher the dominance of Bitcoin on the coin market cap, the worse the value of altcoin. Bitcoin holds a large chunk of the coin market cap and that has been since the beginning of time, I only wish that altcoin could have some breathing space to also witness some increasing pressure.

real investors will never invest in any altcoins as long as they remain pump and dump coins. in other words as long as what developers create is junk instead of real cryptocurrencies you can not expect people to treat them any other way, they will also trade them while they get pumped and dump (and abandon them) as soon as they can.

this issue is not new  . even before bitcoin is already dominating because its obvious that btc has the highest demand and thats why it got a high value righ ? now if your still concern especially this year that btc domination have greatly increased , well i could only say that it brings  a positive impact on the btc hodlers because we all can earn huge profits but this will also become beneficial on other coins because they can sometimes go with flow with btc .

That's the reality now, just accept it, it's just part of the market situation and I know you are here not for short term so expect that soon there will be a market change. Sometimes our expectation does not happen but that does not mean marketcap will stay this low, as long as BTC survives, the market will remain and in time, altcoins will also rise and that BTC dominance does not matter anymore, it only matters now because altcoins are not growing.

Now we are not certain if altcoins will ever come back much more attaining all time high as was the case in 2017

It has an effect to all the altcoins as the prices of altcoins will remain unbalance compare to the increase of bitcoin price but it doesn't mean also that it is not a good ideato invest in altcoins.

The market is just a little harsh right now but once it will bounce back and the market will start to revive again then altcoins increase of price will surely follow even if the bitcoin market dominance is still there.

Sorry, but no. They are currently pumping the real Gold and not the fake one. Look at the current price of Gold and you will understand. It is altcoins holders who did pump bitcoin at its current price mainly. If the dominance is not corrected, i predict a big dump of the crypto market as currently price of bitcoin is unstainable.

The dominance of bitcoin has clearly manifested on altcoins at present. Price of altcoins has not increased as compared to bitcoin.
I think this time bitcoin seasons has taken over the market. Altcoin season will come again.
It's still good to know that there are some potential altcoins that are included in the topmost coins next to bitcoin. So if bitcoin will keep its price increased, chances are good altcoins will start to recover but for those who are considered shitcoins, they will continue to lose their value instead.

for now the dominance of bitcoin is still not good for altcoin. because altcoin is still showing a declining trend, it can be seen in the big altcoin, etherum. but when referring to the chart in previous years, etherum still has a big chance to go up high by more than $ 1000.

With BTC dominance, altcoins do not grow or even fall in price. People see it and start investing in Bitcoin. It becomes even more powerful, while tokes lose a lot. Naturally, it is not a very good situation for alts, but I do not think that it will last for long. I guess Bitcoin dominance will be reduced naturally, and gradually, it will reach 52-55% again.

Untill altcoins will not prove themselves and users or investors  will not have enough confidence on it, Bitcoin dominance will increase over the period.
This is very much influencing price of  almost all altcoins.

Bitcoin market dominance is good for altcoins but at this time only good for BTC becuase most of investors are investing in Bitcoin not in other altcons that's why Bitcoin market dominance is not good for altcoins at this time.
Altcoins have failed so many investors and they are not interested in making their investment into Altcoins but ensuring they investment in Bitcoin. What ever we are seeing now.in this industry is a direct impact of the happens that took place in 2017 to 2018, people invest into Altcoins and at the end disappear to tin air.

I do not see how altcoins will survive this brutal dominance from bitcoin's movement. The only positive I take from this is that many shitcoins will die totally before the next alts season leaving only those with real working projects standing

unfortunately i do not believe that the growth of the dominance (currently 70%) of bitcoin is good for the altcoin, rather the contrary many will be delisted and will disappear, and the main ones will go down a lot of value...

do you know the rate at which new tokens pump out. it is quite unbearable that new altcoins hit markets on a daily base. this is not good to the market. quite disappointing  to most developers. it think what is actually happening with new projects is the rebirth of old and deleted projects by the same owner.

I think this makes the parameters, with the greatest liquidity and far adrift from their closest rivals, the logic of bitcoin being the most trusted by investors. I think this is what makes bitcoin go up on its own, without being followed by altcoin, and without trust, altcoin is hard to up like bitcoin

Unless the market decides the fair price, the BTC dominance will dictate the price of the altcoins. Active markets are traded with Bitcoin pairs and there is no another option considering the current market situation. Supply and demand increase the market dominance of the Bitcoin. The dominance problem still exists in the bear market but we don't feel its existence as much as in the bull market. Altcoin traders can't scalp the small market flows, so they look for alternative trade options.

The level of bitcoin market dominance continues to increase, and this causes altcoin to go down and difficult to pump, hoping that market dominance returns stable so that it allows altcoin to go to the moon.

Exactly. Bitcoin is the only coin that has 100% proven itself to be resilient and to be the only coin that maintains a use and a strong community who have everything invested in it. Very few altcoins have it and those who do will not have the same level of passion, level of use, even level of security in terms of hashrate.

Price is a reflection of that and we have to deal with it.

High BTC dominance is of course pretty bad for the alt market. One just has to look at the prices compared to like 2 months ago to see that.

As for it reversing, it's of course possible. Basically if BTC falls back and consolidates, and whales feel they can make more in alts than BTC, money will move back to alts.

I find it weird sometimes when BTC holders think super high BTC dominance is a good thing. Now it's good in the short term, but long term it kind of kills most crypto hype  ( and BTC trading volume too). And that doesn't count any tech advances in crypto, which tend to occur in alts, not BTC ... no alt market means little incentive for coins to introduce anything innovative or new.

if the market is in a bull market, the dominance of bitcoin is good for altcoin. but on the contrary if the bear market, this will only make altcoin worse off.

basically people only invest in crypto trading and nobody really holds coins. so every time bitcoin moves altitude will be affected. as now bitcoin is undergoing correction making altcoin red. and when bitcoin is good, altcoin capitalization also increases because of the average altcoin pairs with bitcoin.

I don't think it's a bad news for altcoins. But anyway. Still a very struggling time for them. And for cryptocurrency cause of too long down time for most of them
But I Believe which aim for good purposes would standstill. After 10 years, this is not bad for a new market. They have prety much potential.

I think this is not good for the altcoin's price. We can say that every crypto's value are always moving but if we talk about bitcoin's price that will increase this is the time that people will have a panic buying to buy bitcoin because they hoping for the bullrun so they dont buy altcoin and worst they will dump their altcoin to buy and invest at bitcoin.

Why do so many people talk about the death of altcoins? Bitcoin dominance will go down and everything will be fine, stop panic.

I am also sure that this is a manipulation of the situation and Bitcoin is now overvalued for its domination. I think that we will soon see a fall in the dominance of Bitcon to the level of 45-50%.
