Title: Twitterarians can you weigh in. Does @Bitcoin support Bitcoin again?
Post by: Steamtyme on August 20, 2019, 09:28:36 PM
I don't use twitter, and really only check anything out if an article or post points me that way. I did find this interesting though it's about the twitter handle @bitcoin (https://www.ccn.com/bitcoin-twitter-handle-controversy/) essentially whitewashing it's prior support for BCH.

I remember them a little, but always chalked it up to the same propaganda machine as Bitcoin.com promoting their somehow original and true Bitcoin. That's another million previous threads though. I personally can't tell what changed there, but it almost seems like someone snapped and is just enjoying playing up a game for now.

It would be nice to see well known resources... if you can call them that, using the Bitcoin name to be just that a resource.

I've checked the rest posts of @bitcoin, and I think it's too early to say anything for sure, all we can know is that something has changed, but we don't know exactly what. Maybe the person behind the account parted their ways with Roger Ver, maybe there's a new owner, maybe the account was sold again, or was hacked. There's also a theory  (https://wr.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/ct50de/a_word_of_caution_concerning_the_twitter_handle/)that the account is still affiliated with Roger Ver, it's just Roger Ver abandoning his anti-Bitcoin rhetoric because of how profitable Bitcoin is.

Doesn't look like it, judging from Roger Ver's most recent reddit comments:

https://old.reddit.com/user/memorydealers

Instagibbs just revealed himself to be the new owner using the @Bitcoin account to retweet his tweet:

Roger resigning as CEO of bitchcoin . com after announcing that he's busy working on an exchange was highly suspicious. Seeing how @Bitcoin suddenly starts behaving weird makes it even more suspicious.

I strongly believe that this is another scam attempt where they try to gain people's confidence, promote Bitcoin without bashing it, then refer people to their exchange to buy BCash while noobs think they are buying Bitcoin. Roger did it once already, but in a very amateurish way that got quickly exposed. This is this next improved attempt to unload his bags.

Look at the media album of @Bitcoin; there are still pro BCash and anti Bitcoin/Lightning images.

I really hope that the lease contract of the @Bitcoin handle doesn't have a clause that makes it impossible for the one leasing it to reveal himself. If that's not the case, we should be seeing a reveal announcement pretty soon.

Roger always denied to have access to that Twitter handle but the way he constructed his Tweets and his wording was identical to the Tweets of his main Twitter account. Not only is he a scammer, but also a pathological liar.

I like the fact that it makes the Bcash community feel bad about this playing out. The whole community apparently finds Roger's scamming practices not unethical, which makes them untrustworthy as well. We'll see where this goes.

Looks like all old Bcash tweets where deleted from @Bitcoin tweeter account,
and here is the latests tweet from Charlie Lee regarding this:

Haha, Imagine how great shock it woupd be for Roger Ver when he saw that twitter's @Bitcoin account changed support from bitcoin cash to bitcoin. This is the time when he needs someone to stay with him for solace.
Imagine Bitcoin.com's writers decided to troll him and they publish all posts which are supporting to real bitcoin and not roger's btc cash.
This man will do everything for money, that's conclusion.

Apparently it's owned by instagibbs (https://twitter.com/theinstagibbs/status/1163837511287869441) now, who I have a generally positive perception of as being trustworthy and pro-Bitcoin. (Though I don't know him well.)

There are several good things about this:
 - When BCH pretends to be Bitcoin, it's annoying and could cause confusion.
 - It's nice that @Bitcoin is controlled by someone who is more technical and lighthearted rather than some finance person who doesn't know what they're talking about and is just trying to collect suckers. I like the bio.
 - It was funny to see @Bitcoin trolling BCHers.

But I think that some Bitcoiners are still unconstructively vindictive about the whole BTC vs. BCH thing. It was settled years ago, and I'm content to let them thrive or (more likely) fail on their own. Expending any effort on it now is a waste of time, and could alienate some of them who are not totally lost. If it was me who'd gotten control of @Bitcoin, I probably also wouldn't be able to resist trolling the BCHers a bit, but after a while I'd ignore them near-completely and try to use the position to elevate the overall Twitter dialogue on Bitcoin. I hope that this is the direction instagibbs takes it.

Also, if there was any top-down meddling from Twitter here, then it leaves something of a stain on the whole thing. (I don't know why people subject themselves to Twitter, which has proven time and time again to be a terrible platform...)

Twitter is a nice platform tho, but most users are completely-almost like dumb facebook users and spammers.l who continuously spam both platforms. I remember a time when twitter user handler @bitcoin , promoting BCH and i was just like, "what a complete full of crap" and didn't give much time to clarify who's handling the account at that time.

Selling Twitter account is against Twitter's Terms of Service. ;D
If the account was hacked, the previous owner would definitely try to recover it.
I think that Roger Ver will "forget" about his anti-bitcoin core views, because BCH is a complete failure.
This is only temporary for sure.People like Ver will continue to spread their propaganda bullshit after bitcoin core hits a certain price.

if we consider BCH goal to be an altcoin that they sell to newbies who think they are buying bitcoin and also to have a centralized coin they can fully control while they pump and dump it to make profit, i wouldn't call it a "complete" failure.
that is why they have not yet given up on it and if you visit their hangouts you can see they are still spreading pretty much the same nonsense.

We will eventually take control of all the Bitcoin platforms that was hijacked to confuse people into believing that BCash is the real Bitcoin.  ::)  We will see a total collapse of BCash and then a gradual shift towards the real Bitcoin <BTC> over time.

My father always said, "A lie runs fast, but the truth eventually catch up to it." and that is exactly what is going to happen with Roger Ver and all his attempts to confuse people.  ;)

I think this strange spontaneous change of support just goes to show that all the supporters of BCH actually know the truth, but they just decide to live in denial.
@Bitcoin probably fell out with Roger ver and most probably lost his "pay check", so I guess he sees no reason why he should continue to lie to himself with no gain/benefit anymore.

BCH is simply trying it's best to stay relevant, but it'll slowly fade out, it's not the bitcoin, and even deep down in Roger's mind he knows the truth, but just has to play dumb.

@Bitcoin twitter changing hands and becoming a Bitcoin promoter, not an anti-Bitcoin altcoin .. something.. is a good news.
Just, as said, since selling is against the rules, there may be issues there. The cover up written by @SatoshiLite is, while funny, could help though.

The bigger news should be the bitcoin-dot-com domain. Almost every newcomer tries that site instead of the correct bitcoin.org.
If that Roger Ver resigning news is not fake (which I also doubt), then it would be a great news. But this would mean he gave up, which is a big "hmmm"

Twitter is platform where you can get banned super easy,
but I think it is still better than Facebook, and sadly I am not sure there is better alternative social media platform yet.

He is still Executive Chairman
so I don't think anything major changed there.

Some of the twitter trolling has been top notch:

https://i.imgur.com/UcyzSBX.jpg (https://twitter.com/JihanWho/status/1163809475590967300)

And there are posts in the BCH subreddit calling for legal action against twitter. ::)

Interesting to see that according to this site (https://socialblade.com/twitter/user/bitcoin/monthly), the @bitcoin account has seen a huge upswing in the number of new followers over the past 24 hours, somewhere in the region of 20-30x their daily average over the last month:

Do we have any more information as to how instagibbs ended up in control of the account? Who controlled it before? Was it bought, sold, traded, given away?

Seeing that just made my day, top notch trolling right there indeed  ;D
About time that this happened, their hostile takeover of the name Bitcoin was one of the tackiest things I've ever witnessed in the whole crypto-space.

I saw yesterday actually when @Bitcoin posted that friend unfriending of Justin Sun, not sure why I didn't really find it so funny, guess my sense of humour's been taken apart by reading all the crap on crypto.

Not as tacky as the latest Satoshi reveal and pics of broken laptops and fake nostalgia... but yeah, right up there.

Imagine, all that money they spent on buying the handle and this is the extent of what their money can buy!

Instagibbs just revealed himself to be the new owner using the @Bitcoin account to retweet his tweet: https://twitter.com/theinstagibbs/status/1163837511287869441
Thanks for being first out the gate with the info. I still wasn't sure if it was fact or fiction at the time. This has sort of peaked my interest and I may begin to do a little twitter scrolling to at least familiarise myself with some of the more worthwhile noteworthy twitterers.

This really stood out to me. I've been expanding my views a little recently and have been taking in content from various platforms. I find myself gravitating to the creators that aren't overtly negative, or purists. Lighthearted trolling is nothing that's fun and interesting, not to mention great for exposure. Even if you disagree with he idea it creates a space to talk or discuss when you are likely to receive a civil response and not get flamed.

I am a big fan of bringing levity into as many situations as possible. I know nothing of Instagibbs but it appears that's their approach to this account and I'll probably keep an eye on it from time to time, not creating an account yet.

Regarding the bolded part, was this an option?

I know nothing more than what theymos brought to the discussion about them. I am interested in this account though and how it changed or changes hands. I can't imagine what price someone would have sold it for that Ver or another BCH supporter wouldn't have paid to keep it towing the line. I did briefly wonder though if it isn't an account that a group of early coiners have agreed to swap off every few years. Maybe in the end whoever had it just didn't like how things went with BCH and it's own split and decided to hand over the reigns. Might never know, but it was good to at least get the "who" answered.

I feel like this is the second time I've seen him post/say something along these lines.

Coblee is trolling Roger Ver who is not happy that Jack Dorsey (twitter CEO) is interested in the Lightning Network1, 2 having previously insinuated3 his interest in LN stems solely from Dorsey's alleged romantic relationship with Elizabeth Stark, LN CEO.

From recent tweets the account @Bitcoin is no doubt pro Bitcoin and a little bit anti BCH.
Regardless of previous situations I would hope the current handler keeps a level head, and connects with Bitcoin enthusiasts on Twitter, from all over the world, relating it to their government policies and economies.
Social media would be a very efficient tool in pushing the Bitcoin agenda, if handled properly.

@bitcoin has changed hands before. Even got deleted once. See below.
It can be only positive for the real Bitcoin community.

So, looks like the official @bitcoin account was deleted and someone has just resisted it again.
Looks like a noob to me but he's gonna make some money for sure.

Here is Roger talking about @Bitcoin Twitter Account in his latest beach video from 08:30min,
Hearing him talk about the "nasty, dirty, horrible tricks that BTC maximalists play" , when his entire business model is to disguise his trash, centralized altcoin as "real" bitcoin and try to trick newbies in to buying it, is the best example of hypocrisy I've seen in a long time.

and you can skip the shilling part before that
Watch the first minute or two though. It's hilarious. Best laugh I've had in a while.

"A whole barbecue area filled with Bitcoin Cash people behind us here" - camera pans over about 10 people and loads of empty tables. ;D

"Tell us about something exciting happening with Bitcoin Cash in Japan" - blank stare and confused mumbling ;D

Yeah... all his videos are hilarious with his hired girls from Japan and people claiming they will never get back to BTC  ::)
but what can we do about it.... nothing.
Sometimes I just have fun watching his videos  ;D
