Title: Merit Giveaway
Post by: lighpulsar07 on August 22, 2019, 09:42:55 AM
I have 23 smerits left on my account most of my smerits were decayed since this account was hacked and locked, now i've decided to give all of my remaining smerits to the most deserving person who wants to rank up especially hero members who are short in merits to become legendary since it would be a waste of smerit if didn't use it. DT members can suggest a member who needs to rank up that is helpful to community and of course a constructive poster.

And for the other members, please post your links here i'll check it to see if fits in my criteria

Criteria:

1. The post must be constructive I MEAN CONSTRUCTIVE.
2. The post must be on topic and helpful to community.

P.S. Don't pm me and beg for merit i will only ignore you...

edit: i should've make this thread self moderated so, unwanted posts should be deleted :/

I see people are creating giveaway thread in Beginners and Help board, not in meta. You can move the thread over that board. However, you will not get much attention unless you are allowing newbie and jr member. I had created one of this kind but got no response. I would recommend you to create merit giveaway for all of the users, not for any certain rank. It's a discredit to them.

These would be likely candidates. They are (26) Hero members that are within 20% of reaching the 1K merit requirement for Legendary as of last Friday (*), that have been active since June 2019. Note that some of them may be a bit distant to the activity requirement (775-1030), but I’ve listed them nevertheless.

I see people are creating giveaway thread in Beginners and Help board, not in meta.
Ah, that might be why I haven't seen such threads in a long time--I have B&H on ignore.

Whether this thread gets moved there or not, props to OP for trying to help people rank up.  I'll keep an eye on this and try to lend assistance if I see any good posts and/or members deserving of merit who need it to rank up.

I support this 100%:

now i've decided to give all of my remaining smerits to the most deserving person who wants to rank up especially hero members who are short in merits to become legendary since it would be a waste of smerit if didn't use it.

I used up all of my source sMerits, but I have over 200 earned sMerits that I need to hand out.  It's so damn hard to find lower-ranked members making solid posts, so threads like this are awesome.

Why i'm not there too? ahh 4 activity blockes me.
Props also to you for recommending other members, and I know you're a good poster so I've given you some merits.  You're so damn close to Hero, bro.  You'll get there.

I want to suggest looking closer to TytanowyJanusz (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1925869) I have quoted above because he is a key member of our local community which published a lot of very high-quality posts and many of them are not merited.

Of course, TytanowyJanusz (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1925869) is posting across multiple boards if somebody finds it difficult to translate from the Polish language.

I will not link any of his threads or posts here because is enough to check his account to find many of them only on the first pages of TytanowyJanusz (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1925869) post history.

Its good that people will get merit through this thread but i have another point of view on the merit giveaways threads.

It is the responsibility of the person to keep on distributing the merits while being on the forum. If he like any post, he should give merit to it (provided he has the smerit). Now by creating such threads, you shift your responsibility and ask people to show your posts and then you make selections on which to merit and which to not. It makes you look superior as you have some precious items and you are distributing it.

Secondly it sometimes give a wrong impression that merit is so difficult to get that first you have to post constructive and no one will give you merit and now you come on these threads and indirectly beg " Please see the my post, i'll deserve merit on it. please give me merit".

OP have rights to use his/her sendable merits in the way (s)he wanted. If (s)he send smerits to good posts and good posters, there is nothing wrong here. my friend. You can not blame that you (or others) make good posts (for instance 100 good posts, and no one see or send merits to one of your 100 good posts). There are probabilities for your good posts to be found by others (due to garbage posts burried good posts), but there are always probability to get merits if you constantly make good posts. 10/100 good posts found by others, and some of them will get merits. I think it is fair.

There are merit contests, people have free rights to join contest, and try their luck. Importantly, luck only comes to good posters.
If in merit give-away contests, you or others can not win a single merit, from OPs, or from threads' readers, it is your/ their faults (mainly come from average post quality does not good enough to satisfy OPs' or readers' qualification)

Threads like this should be outlawed in this forum, doesn't send a good message and it's beginning to look more like abuse. If you have Merits to give, nothing stops you from giving them quietly to the deserving posts.

1. Posting here, asking for recommendations suggests that you're incapable of deciding which posts deserves Merit, and somehow, needed help to decide. That makes you unqualified to hold those Merits.

2. 23 Merits is way too small to warrant all these punishments, making people scout through posts, just to find recommendations for your mere 23 Merits. Highest you could give is 1 Merit per post for 23 persons, and what do you think that is going to solve?

3. I see this as lacking in sincerity. An attempt to collect more Merits, disguised as a giveaway thread.

If you have merits to give out, give them and get over with it. The only time this could be warranted is if you have thousands of merits and are ready to give 50 or more merits to each person just to help them rank up quickly. Making unnecessary noise for less than impressive number of merits leaves bad test to your credibility.

I need merits quite a lot.

I'm trying to be able to post images of a product we are launching. but I cannot do it as my rank is too low.

Our product aims to put a blockchain computer in every home.  crypto adoption by the masses is being held back by my lack of merit on bitcointalk.  mass adoption is at stake here and I cannot post an image.

You can upgrade your account to copper member, and then you can post images. It is not free though.

Here is explained how you can do that

Making unnecessary noise for less than impressive number of merits leaves bad test to your credibility.

lol!!! okay i will answer questions and criticisms since you are a "NEWBIE"

1. I am not incapable to decide which post deserves merit i just want to help someone to rank up i needed some recommendations from the trusted community members because they have the list of people who deserves to rank up. and also, these merits were airdropped when the merit system was introduced.

2. way too small? do you think i am giving 1 merit per 1 person? no. what trying to do is give the needed merits to the person i picked to rank up. this is also the reason why i needed the list of persons who were close to rank up to hero member and legendary members.

3. Nope. i just want to do this as a thank you for the bitcointalk admin and their team to recover my account. honestly, i don't want to be given nor receive any merits for this giveaway.

As theymos said in merits page:
Quote
There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

I hope you'll be satisfied for my answers for your questions, criticism and allegations against my giveaway thread and thanks for stopping by

with my kind regards,
lightpulsar07 :)

List of users that collected at least 80% of merits to rank up to hero or legendary (from original list I've deleted those who already rank up). Why i'm not there too? ahh 4 activity blocks me.

Take a look at him:

He has lots of technical knowledge that he shere with community if needed. In his last 20 post i've fund at least 5 worth to merit. 16 merits short to become hero.

edit: More complete list of users close to legendary was posted below by DdmrDdmr - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5177856.msg52233498#msg52233498

If I'm not mistaken, Jr. Member can post images already (correct me if I'm wrong) so you need only 1 and not "a lot".
Well, I'm assuming that this post is both a begging post and at the same time an advertising post since you are advertising your "project". Try to post one constructive post so you can get 1 merit then you can post images already.

Well, this guys earned more merits in his 35 post history than some of legendary members with 3000 posts (like this guys:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=436371 - 5000+ posts - 4 merits. Active today
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=891131 - 2700+ posts - 4 merits. Active today
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=658163 - 2000+ posts - 1 merit. Active yesterday
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=410589 - 4200+ posts - 3 merits. Active yesterday

I whould not treat him like average newbie. Perhaps he is (or will be) more valuable BTT member that those above.

Yes! I've checked his post history he is deserving to rank up meriting him now.

I see you pushed him through the line. Great to see that i could help you and him :)

Don't be so harsh. No one is an expert in any field and every board has its small society. If he is not technical he would not be able to reward quality posters from technical boards (such as Bitcoin Technical Support). If he does not speak French he would not merit quality poster from French local board etc.

Thank you for these warm words. I felt really appreciated

...person who wants to rank up especially hero members who are short in merits to become legendary...

I think OP did all he can to make his opening post as short as possible but still, some members are not able to read it before posting.

OP clearly said that he wants to help: especially hero members who are short in merits to become legendary.

Please don't spam this thread there are/where enough merit giveaways for newbies and beginners, just look for them in proper sections.

I am not strictly against these merit giveaways threads and this forum recognizes  the efforts of the people who are willing to send the smerits. :)
Also most giveaway are for Jr. Members and Members and high ranks are mostly ignored. I hope OP will distribute all the merits to the deserving hero members.
Also it will be good if he could update in the OP how many smerit already send and how many left.

Not getting the whole gist but I understand this is a giveaway with main focus on Hero members above. Well it's been a while since I applied for giveways so let me give it a try. Mostly after the smerits as I hate been out of smerits, just spent my last earned smerits early hours of today.
