Title: Ethereum update
Post by: javadsalehi on August 23, 2019, 07:52:57 PM
I heard Ethereum will be updated to Ethereum 2 in early 2020.
I would appreciate you if you answer my questions.
1. Will there be a fork like we had for bitcoin cash? Or we will have to deposit our Ethereums to an address to get ETH2 in a new address? Or our Ethereum will be updated automatically?
2. What do you think about regulations? Is it possible that we will be forced to pass KYC to get ETH2?

The fork was already completed back in Feb. 2019 (Constantinople). AFAIK there will be no "ETH2" coins that will be issued, it will be the same ETH since it's a network upgrade. I'm curious how the migration from POW to POS will be.

They will just upgrade ETH network and they promised to do following: to reduce the miner rewards by 50 percent, to increase the transaction speed and to lower transaction fees. If everything would be realised it could help ETH to finally raise in price.

Definitely no KYC. As of the fork, I believe Ethereum developers are trying to migrate in a completely new chain hence a swap would be a probable in which case, users need to prove their holdings but that would be a large hassle. They may opt out for a fork where user has to do nothing.

There will be no KYC to receive future ETH  hardfork if there will be any. Requesting for KYC to receive a decentralized forked coin is just another scam. As for the upcoming eth upgrade, there will be no new coin created.

No there is not going to be any ETH fork which is called hardfork, the update is just a normal update for eth without splitting or giving birth to another coin,ETH going to ETH2.0 is not a swap to another coin, its just like a network upgrade is all

There have been talks on the ethereum block chain upgrade for quite some time and I think it is particularly on the scalability, because that is the problem that has been confronting Ethereum network. So, another token will not be created, but that there will be an improvement in the network. If the issue of scalability can be solved, it will then be singlehandedly agreed that ethereum network is the vest, when it comes to smart contract.

I think there will not be any other or newer eth coins produced even after all these upgrades simply because they are using different techniques to resolve scalability issues that do not require hard forks, im just waiting for all these upgrades to complete and see eths new form as a highly advanced and modern blockchain network with realtime solutions.

So moon will be after the fork then?

Halving usually makes its price shoot up and so if they adjust the transaction fee then this will be good for the ETH fans and the projects using their network too at least this time the gas will not be such a burden. I haven't read the update. Did they mention about their TPS also?  It will still have the same problem if the congested network is not going to be solve with this update.

1. There will be no more fork will be generated through the future fork of ethereum and QDAO was the only one the case that created the fork chain of ethereum called ethereum classic.
I thought if it's enough to hold your funds or ethereum in your personal wallet and ethereum will be updated automatically based on how much nodes will be upgrade its client to the future clients that contains the update
2. Please, there will be no more new ethereum fork coin and you can forget ETH2 because it's stated so many times if the next ethereum fork will not generate a new coin and ETC is the last one.
You don't need to pas KYC and it can't be disturbed by the regulation.

I reckon Ethereum 2.0's release might be similar to the SEC's approval of a bitcoin ETF. Many delays.

I may think about your 2nd questions :

Oh yes, we will be forced to do KYC before using ETH service. That's fair to tracking scam projects, but somehow, it made ETH is not anonymous network anymore.

Ethereum fork again? Why then is the price doing down? Akm seriously hoping for ethereum moon.

The answer is clear, because this version of Ethereum is not working as Vitalik had promised. It is not scalable. It failed.

Also, where is the hard fork to proof of stake? I reckon Vitalik should address this. He might be avoiding it because it will highlight his team's failure.

The digital ledger behind the supposed better version of Bitcoin is running out of capacity.

That was the warning last week from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who noted that the cost of processing transactions done in the digital token Ether on the underlying blockchain may get too expensive for some users.

Ether’s network utilization has spiked into the 90% level, according to tracker Etherscan.io. As utilization increases, transactions costs could follow suit, possibly making potential corporate users hesitate to use Ethereum, Buterin said.

Almost two years ago, Ethereum was getting clogged up as the digital game CryptoKitties took off. Then thousands of initial coin offerings, which turned out to be mostly scams, took up space on the network. More recently, though, as a majority of the ICOs went bust, a new tenant is taking over Ethereum: The controversial coin known as Tether.

In the last 30 days, Tether paid computers which process transactions on Ethereum’s digital ledger $260,000 in fees, according to data researcher Ethgasstation.info. That’s about 17.5 times more than CryptoKitties and six times more than the world’s largest distributed exchange, IDEX.

As Tether takes up more capacity, that leaves less for other developers. Ethereum was touted by enthusiasts when it was created as a better Bitcoin -- one with extra features that would let people automate tasks and even set up so-called autonomous corporations, ones that run themselves via software. But most of the most popular so-called dapps -- apps designed for such networks -- currently run on competing digital ledgers, according to tracker DappRadar.com.

This is just an update of the network for a better performance and more scalableness. And equally for the redcution of miner's reward and no new coin is going to be created. More-so, forked doesn't need KYC.

You can learn more about upgrading to Ethereum 2.0 from the documentation on Github.
Here, for example, are the transition phases: https://docs.ethhub.io/ethereum-roadmap/ethereum-2.0/eth-2.0-phases/
And here the process of ETH1 migration to ETH2 is described: https://docs.ethhub.io/ethereum-roadmap/ethereum-2.0/eth-1.0-to-2.0-migration/

This will be a regular update that will not spawn any hard fork or, in other words, network offsets. There will only be a technology update and a change in the mining method. With this update, Ethereum will be mined using POS mining and large node holders with a large amount of Ethereum will receive it.

Title: Re: Ethereum update

@furball64. Ethereum 2.0 will not be a regular update. It will be a new platform coded from scratch.

I reckon that it might be a risk for Vitalik to do this because all the projects that were made on Ethereum might have a difficult task of migrating to the new platform.

With regulation in place, I bet that ethereum users too will at a point be forced to go into the kyc agreement irrespective of that fact that they are decentralized, there is absolutely nothing called regulation without the KYC because that is the basis of the whole regulation.

They might not be implementing it now because we have not really gotten a legal regulation that will be enforced by the government but in future when the government is ready for the regulation, then they will surely enforce it just like we have exchanges that has been seeking for regulation enforce it now. Ever since exchanges has enforced this issue of KYC, virtually everyone has complied with it already and nothing has been done about it, so nothing will still be done if ethereum enforces theirs too.

AFAIK, next scheduled hard fork is Istanbul that is expected to happen around November this year but it is still within framework of Ethereum 1.0. As to Ethereum 2.0 its zero phase i.e Beacon Chain is planned for the end of 2019 - beginning of 2020, also via hardfork  on the understanding that all ETH addresses remain valid;  KYC, this is not the case here.

Ethereum 2.0 will not be a hardfork. It will be a new platform not connected to the original Ethereum. What the users will do is transfer their wallets from Ethereum 1.0 to Ethereum 2.0 through a smart contract.

I shake my head at this. Why did Vitalik not release a proof of stake Ethereum from the beginning?

The poor performance of  ethereum in recent times has really caused many people to lose interest in ethereum. The coming update on Ethereum is just a blockchain system update without any hard fork to improve service on it's blockchain network. This would really help bring back the interest of many altcoin holders in ethereum.

It is not an update. It is technically an Ethereum reboot because it is beginning a new blockchain with a new genesis block.

The users will transfer their coins from the old Ethereum 1.0 blockhain to Ethereum 2.0 blockchain through a one way smart contract.

It looks like the plan will take place in early January 2020. Usually there are several exchangers or wallets that provide the service, and of course we must have an ethereum balance on the wallet, I think it will be announced before implementation, like the previous ETH hardflok plan, although it failed.
I hope the future plans can be successful, in order to lift investor confidence in ETH

ETH 2.0 is very much expected. But most likely we will be forced to exchange our coins. If we don't change them, they'll burn. It is a pity that so Buterin relates to their community. I doubt if there will be any further fork as the fork happened early this year. Also the upgrade will not warrant new wallets, it's a means of scaling the Ethereum network further not to create a new chain.

hopefully we are not forced to get ethereum 2.0. because what previously happened for the fork was a certain designated exchange. and if in the exchange must require kyc, to withdrawal, then we must follow it, and not from the ethereum party who kyc, which as far as I know is like that
I think if this event is carried out, ethereum will quickly increase

I have a feeling that the team is addictive with the release of the update. You can now go on the process of accumulating Ethereum at a low price. And in the next year, Ethereum will already be more expensive than $ 500.

Ethereum 2.0 will change the Ethereum work model from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake. Ethereum 2.0 will implement Sharting and will support Virtual Machines supported by Ethereum which support Ethereum to find out the number of Dapps. For developers, testnet provides a simulated version of the main network that allows them to intelligently use contracts or upgrade without having to pay "fees" (cost calculations) for their implementation.

No fork will happen. Ethereum core innovation is the transition to a new proof-of-stake algorithm. Additionally, the sharding solution used in the system will be updated. Due to this, participants will be able to scale faster and more efficiently.

It is planned that Ether 2.0 will be able to process faster in the system, and the number of transactions per second will be increased greatly.

Why are they operating it like a Ponzi scheme, how can they burn people's coin without their knowledge, this is how many of these projects fail and they don't meet up to the standard of bitcoin. when bitcoin was created, there were many people that bought at the early stage and never take a look back until years later, if bitcoin has done what Ethereum intends doing, would there have been smile on people's face today, would those people who told their story on how bitcoin change their lives and through their testimonies attracted others, would they have been attracted to bitcoin?

Ethereum should please come up with another option please, because like me, I hardly check on my investment and i never even knew about this not until you said it, but how many people would know.

in my opinion ethereum will only be automatically updated, because if you look at this time the volume of ethereum is very large and if you have to deposit funds to get the latest ethereum maybe a lot of ethereum owners have obstacles. and kyc might not be a problem
I do not believe that Ethereum this time can successfully establish its network in timelines. I think that only in 1-2 years will we see the final update.

Yes, there is a planned upgrade in 2020. Of course, there will be a hardfork. But you are asking the wrong question. A hardfork can be smooth with all participants jumping on the new network configuration. While a contentious hardfork may create a separate network like in the case of ETH classic.

KYC is usually enforceable in fiat gateways or centralized services, not decentralized networks.

You will not need to do anything, your old Ethereum will instantly become the new Ethereum 2.0. And on your wallet there will be new coins that for the average user will not differ in anything. Only specialists will understand what happened after the network update.

They will just upgrade ETH network and they promised to do following: to reduce the miner rewards by 50 percent, to increase the transaction speed and to lower transaction fees. If everything would be realised it could help ETH to finally raise in price.

if I were you I would not be too sure about the price rise
Vitalik has promised us one thing , but it seems like etherium didn't deliver , so they are trying to relaunch it with POS and block halving
it is possible that even if everything goes as planned , there will be no price increase and a substantial risk of failing if things go wrong
maybe another Kriptokitties happen to stall eth blockchain to a halt again or simple tech difficulties
I would not store my coins in etherium and suggest you don't as well

The fork was already completed back in Feb. 2019 (Constantinople). AFAIK there will be no "ETH2" coins that will be issued, it will be the same ETH since it's a network upgrade. I'm curious how the migration from POW to POS will be.

Yes! you are right, Ethereum was updated before early this year.
But the Eth 2.0 is not yet completely running.
They just had the fork and update some but we are not yet running in full 2.0 mode.
And that is what we can hold on this token.

I shake my head on Wei Tang's comparison of Ethereum and Microsoft Windows. For Microsoft it is alright for them to do upgrades in their software that are not backwards compatible because their users in total do not hold billions of dollars of their cryptocoin.

Parity developer, Wei Tang, has raised concerns about one of the improvement proposals, Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1884. This “will break at least a few deployed contracts,” he tweeted, continuing that “what worries me is that some participants on last AllCoreDevs seem to classify it as acceptable behavior.”

He goes on to say:

For software engineering, if you’re developing something that many people depends on, then backward compatibility is one of the top priorities for making any design decisions. This is especially important for blockchain, because a lot of money can be involved.

While Tang’s concerns may seem valid, there is, of course, a counter-argument that obsessing over backward compatibility is counteractive to progress.

Tang makes the example of Microsoft’s Windows gaining popularity because of backward compatibility. Whilst it may have gained popularity in this period, it arguably fell into a technological black-hole.

Apple’s insistence on allowing old-tech to fall into obsolescence was (and still is) widely criticized. However, it took Microsoft years and many iterations of Windows before it caught up to the advances of Apple’s OS X, losing backward compatibility on the way.

KYC for the user is okay but to my opinion i don't think it should forced.

what is the reason if KYC for users is okay mate ? i believe no KYC to get ETH 2.0
because its far away from the main purpose why cryptocurrency was created buddy

for the withdrawal process on the exchange, sometimes the exchange that provides ethereum 2.0 will require kyc. if it is not verified, then we cannot withdraw our assets. but I don't think kyc is really needed to get ethereum 2.0

You guys are going to be waiting much longer than 2020 for this to ship. Just think how long they have been delaying the sharding update, proof-of-stake, zk-Snark integration etc.

Until Ethereum does something to fix its bloat, there's really no point wasting your time looking at it. Unless you want to waste money paying gas for expensive smart contracts!

I also think that we will see the updates of Ethereum only after 1-2 years. Large players must now buy a lot of Ethereum and other Altcoins.

Frankly speaking, I would not even be happy if Ethereum does not introduce kyc in their Ethereum 2.0 because this same decentralization is what Ethereum has been banking on that is making them have lots of scammer that are raising bad projects through their platform, so to me, enough of all these third party coins anonymity, let bitcoin be the only anonymous coin that we have.

There is need for Ethereum to introduce KYC so that all these scammers and bad developers can easily be traced when regulation comes in, I am quite sure that in future, Ethereum will have no choice because government is going to impose it on them, if we want them to regulate the cryptocurrency sector to clean it of every bad people that is destroying its reputation on daily basis.

I believe that, as mentioned earlier, 2019 will be the year of coin accreditation at all levels. Ethereum for me is a coin of the first level, so I am sure that in 2020, after the update, it will see rapid growth.
Although, I contradict myself, but  I will add that the market is unpredictable, and to be 100% sure of something is impossible. The market is being manipulated, and very strongly, volatility does not play into the hands of everyone. The growth in 2020 is quite real, provided that 2019 ends in some recession.

Ethereum is the best network in blockchain in my opinion, I traded ETH when it was at $ 20 and saw it till $1400. I believe there is no need to launch ETH2 and that will not be done as per update from one of fellow member on this thread. ETH is widely used, may be it can surpass BTC,trust ETH is the fastest network widely accepted as of now. Keep holding ETH, it will fly soon.

I think you understand absolutely nothing in technology. If you look at the Ethereum blockchain, then you will understand that now it is in a very difficult situation and it is not possible to use it by large amount of users. an update for him is very important

project casper is still a work in progress since last year there are still issues with the ethereum network, its slow and with projects using the ethereum network, makes it more slower I think,
while vitalik still have not find ways , to make the network faster
I hope they will fix the issue,

Don't misunderstand the updates made by Ethereum in early 2020.. because ethereum will not make and launch new coins as you mean ... and there is no way we will be asked for KYC to get ETH.. because the updated that will be done by ethereum later is only to make ethereum better in the future .. and some of the other reasons that have been mentioned by others from various posts in this thread.. but for sure, after the update is done then I'm sure ethereum will increase again.

I will think positively on the etherem 2020 update, maybe after the update it will be easier to send tokens in a short time or even a second, and this is just a mere issue so we'll wait.

The aim is to improve the transaction speed making the mining service fees to become cheaper. I don't know if this is the promise that they have made before of Million transactions per second so hopefully this is it as it will help the Ethereum to become great platform once again.
