Title: Why my posts were deleted?
Post by: LTU_btc on September 02, 2019, 09:22:20 PM
Today I got notification that a lot of posts (over 100) on my topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1711002.0) were deleted. Here is one example of deleted posts:
Quote from: Bitcoin Forum
A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by a Bitcoin Forum moderator. Posts are most frequently deleted because they are off-topic, though they can also be deleted for other reasons. In the future, please avoid posting things that need to be deleted.

฿ Blackcoin faucets added;
฿ Dash faucets added;
฿ Dry/Dead faucets removed.
Some of these posts were made in 2017 or 2018, some just recently. Can someone tell reason why my posts were deleted? Because in all these years everything was ok and I never experienced such thing.

Probably because you're posting many posts in a row, without deleting old bumps/updates.

I do this too sometimes when convenient, but your topic still shows the same link many times. I guess a Mod did some cleanup.

Most likely somebody doesn’t like you & spent a lot of time reporting many of your posts. Those posts have been deleted by a moderator.

This happened to me as well and I was told it was because when bumping, I shall delete the previous post...

@LoyceMobile, @efialtis, I thought about bumping. But I didn't made several same posts in a row, these posts were different. Usually I made only one post per week and it wasn't same like previous one.
@LFC_Bitcoin, it's possible. But is it post made 1-2 years ago is so harmful that it had to be deleted after so long time?

Yeah, mine mostly were also different, such as posting a discount or so... not sure why they are deleting such posts...

But were they made in a row? I mean, not the same content or posted in a short period of time, but one next of the other (even if with days of distance).

Some of them were in a row, some no. But if you take a look at my thread, you will see that lot of posts that I made in a row are still here.

AFAIK these fall under the "delete your old bumps" rule. If you need to make a update, edit your last post. Or delete the last post and post a new one.

A lot of them are probably there because they haven't been explicitly reported, or maybe the mod deleting it got tired. Or maybe this wasn't really the reason... Idk tbh.

I saw alot of like your post was deleted by mod because 'undeleted bump' . Maybe people didn't report it before and today someone 'don't have a job'  fund your post and report it.

They're considered bumps. Mods usually wouldn't go looking to remove them but a couple of users are reporting a lot of old bumps from various users so I wouldn't take it personally.

Okay, thanks for the answer.

Maybe they have info that report badge is coming or they will get some special reward for reporting old bumps from 2017. I have nothing against reports that make sense, but something like this is completely meaningless, and does not help the forum in any way. I believe neither mods are happy because they need to delete hundreds of posts.

if that so, why this guy's reports (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5172755.0) are marked bad and none is deleted by mod
the reported thread has a lot of bump posts, and they're all duplicate or very short posts
does it depend on the discretion of the mod of that subforum?

I'd assume that is the case.

My reports against ban evasion in the russian sub got marked bad too without the offender getting banned  ::)
The evidence was clear and this case should have been escalated to the global mods. The report was in english, but i assume every mod should understand english regardless of the sub they are moderating.

I already answered in that thread:

They're obviously bumps so should have been deleted. Not sure why they were marked as bad. Maybe contact dbshck & sapta and see if they can tell you. Also, as mainconcept said you should report them as 'undeleted bumps' ideally.

Yep, that's the likely reason.  I just had one of my posts deleted, though I have no idea which one it was since I didn't get a PM from a mod.  I'm assuming it was probably an entire thread I posted in that got nuked.

OP, I get the point of this thread--that's a lot of posts you got deleted all at once.  But if a mod decides you were consecuposting or that a thread you posted in deserves to be trashcanned, this is going to happen from time to time.  I have signatures blocked so I don't know if you're in a campaign, but if these posts were old then it shouldn't affect you if the campaign manager is counting posts made during a specific time frame.  In any case, there isn't much you can do about it.

Definitely the case in my experience.  Some moderators are way more aggressive in deleting posts and tend to rely on the judgement of the reporters, who could be mistaken.  Whatever the case, they're doing a good job if there's mass deletions going on (no offense, OP).

I get lots of deleted posts.  Many times  I answer a set of questions from a newbie and the mods will decide to delete  all the replies I made all with all the questions asked by the newbie along with any one else that answered the questions.

If I kept track of deletes  I would say 1 in 100 of my posts are deleted  maybe 1 in 80.  But if you made 30000 posts it comes to over 300 maybe 400 deleted posts.

Once in a while I complain to the mod and tell the mod they are wrong, but most of the time I let it pass.

Most of my deletes are done by frodocooper and he is known to delete often in the mining section.

Not even close  :D

If the information on bpip.org (https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=philipma1957) is accurate, you have 107 deleted posts, which makes it 1 in 288 being deleted.

BPIP is tracking deletes only for the last year or two I think.

Bumps aren't a huge deal, but they make a browsing a thread take more time, so they're deleted if reported. But I'll admit I think dealing with reports of bumps in very old and inactive threads is a waste of time.

There were wiser moves than the brute force erasure not only of all of this writer's posts (except this one, for now), but also of his sole thread on this forum.

There were 12 posts, 7 mine. The last one, which you quote, is in response to a question. You should ponder upon it.

I really shouldn't. You tried to troll the Development & Technical Discussion board and you got the boot. You can create a thread here for your "ponderings": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=9.0

The discussion was without exaggeration technical.

Let the lectorate, which notwithstanding your advantageous, *trust* commanding, ostentatious merits, you're not representative of (are there *more than two thirds of the members* as well favored as you are?), let them decide whether trolling I was: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5181493

Well the report badges may never come and certainly aren't a priority for theymos right now. People might also be reporting them just to bump up their report count for potential mod positions, but it's rare these days that mods are made on mere high volume of reports. Bump reports are low priority and don't really matter that much, especially when they're buried in old threads but that isn't going to stop people reporting them. I've suggested before that we have maybe two report queues or reports are sorted into priorities as low-priority reports often flood the more serious ones and can quickly bury them. Maybe if we had some sort of drop-down menu where reporters could choose the reason would help and that sorts them by severity/urgency automatically (for instance malware would be high priority and undeleted bumps would be low. High priority could go into a different queue entirely or low priority ones are just pushed to the bottom instead of ordered by the date they come in).

Bumps aren't a huge deal, but they make a browsing a thread take more time, so they're deleted if reported. But I'll admit I think dealing with reports of bumps in very old and inactive threads is a waste of time.

Yeah, they're a minor annoyance, but they are against the rules so people will still report them and quite rightly. I think some users are probably using bots to report them as well. I just wish people would get used to removing them themselves and most will once they're made aware of that but there's obviously a lot of historical cases that can easily rack up your report score.
