Title: [ANN] BTCDir.net - Bitcoin Directory
Post by: coolindark on September 07, 2019, 03:24:42 PM
Hello everyone,

I'd like to announce:

BTCDir, the Bitcoin Directory

BTCDir is a simple directory which helps people to find Bitcoin related services with webmaster contributions. It's based on a simple directory infrastucture which is register-free, easy to use and clean.

Our system does not need any registration for both navigating and website contribution. We check all sites manually and add to our database.

BTCDir is a great resource for people and a free advertising space for webmasters! Everyone is welcome to add their websites and have a place in this simple but useful project!

Thanks.

The directory contains thousands of sites and a lot of information, it seems that you need to develop your database.
I checked your site and you need some work to make an attractive interface.
Also, you need to remove some of the components like tokens/coin section, I mean it's a BTC dir, you don't have to talk about tokens.

Thanks for your feedback. Site infrastructure can easily handle thousands of websites, no problem.

You have a point about altcoins, i thought that it's also related with BTC anyway. I'll think about removal.

Also i'm open for category ideas.
Thanks again for your time.

Your service name is similar with http://bitcoin.directory/ (http://bitcoin.directory/) which also list merchant which accept Bitcoin and list popular bitcoin website.

I'll add few popular merchant when i have free time

Agreed, however my service is free and will always stay free. I hate the idea for paid listing which is entirely againts the idea of equality...

I prefer community will decide the quality of listed websites...

Merited you for this, thank you for creating this one for the community, this is going to be a big help to the community, I also hate the idea of paid listing just like what the ICO rating has been doing it is indeed against the idea of equality.

With your services being free the community can indeed decide the quality of each submission, will definitely invite som eof my friends who operated a website that is Cryptocurrency related to listing their site here.

I agree, i just mention name similarity and don't recommend you to add ads/paid listing anyway.

I tried submit a service and i'm glad i could do it from Tor Browser. But you might need to be wary of people who abuse Tor to spam, especially because you use very weak CAPTCHA.

Not a big problem because i review it and then it's listed. But if you mean spam with hundreds of submission, well let's see what i can do  ???

We check all sites manually and add to our database.

I already see some spam links in there.  A webpage containing an image and email address is not a legit service.

Also, it would be nice if you could have a link in each category listing to add a new listing to that category.  That will grow important as the site grows and people forget what category they were interested in.

If you think it's a spam, you can report / rate it. That's why it's an open directory. Also i'm trying to be careful with removing links / email addresses in details. Would you kindly give me an example for scam lookalike listings? That will teach me.

About link for each category; i'm going to investigate and look what can be done with the infrastructure i use.

Thanks for your feedback.  ;D

Stores section is quite poor. Are you going to make any marketing program to attract sites on your platform ? Yes, understand that this is an open one, but if I travel and want to find shop where can pay in BTC it would be wonderful to see a bigger list. Maybe you should place some ads on the main page to monetize and get some funds for development.

btcdir.net website is slowly growing.
I remember when I saw it first time last year, and now is much better,
but I think there should be more exchanges listed, and more links in general (currently 316)

I agree with you. However i prefer webmaster contribution instead of personal listings. Site could get easily 1000+ links if i add websites only.

I would suggest you to check this thread by Yannik (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5196251.0) he has added more than 15 ads networks. It will help you to add more and trusted ad networks on your ad network directory. https://btcdir.net/ad-networks/

Also, I don;t think adhitz is really counting clicks and views properly. It would be better to use a-ads only.

Glad to know that your website is still alive. I remember when you started it.
Something here is slowing down your website. it is very possible that the problem is with some of ad network banners.
raw text is loaded first then after some time (up to 30sec) loads CSS and all other stuff on the website. it is very possible that it is up to the directory script which you use there.
In the end, you always can test it, for example https://tools.pingdom.com/#5d24e82561800000

Thanks mate! I've checked the site with Pingdom and got a B grade. The directory script is very light and simple which makes things extremely fast "if" there is no ad scripts :)
Very few quality ad networks approved the site due to it's related with crypto; so i had to use lot of multiple scripts to cover hosting. Time to time ad networks really kicks the website's ass. It's unfortunate but i have no option for now.

I've dedicated this website to all Bitcoin community; so i keep the site updated everyday with checking requests and add some minor things. Also, as i promised from the day1 it's free and will be free forever.
Just waiting a little support from community with participate to directory, that's all! More participation means more visitors, better search engine return and then i can use good ad networks.  :)

slow page loading is not good for ranking.
Did you ever try to add Google AdSense on your page? when you already have to have ads, why not them, they have the best payout still.
What is your server requirements, and how much cost you, if it is not a problem to write? maybe I can help you a little.

Do Google adsense approves bitcoin related sites now? i think they stopped accepting such sites and if they even approve then such sites must have millions of views.
Speed is OK from my side, it takes around 2 second to open the site fully.

Adsense directly block your account if you even intend to add your Bitcoin related website to their systems. I had this opportunity  ;D

AdSense accept almost any regular website, no matter if its crypt related. I have one forgotten website with AdSense ads there, everything still stands though I didn’t even touch this site for years.
Google banned crypto advertisers when was ICO hype because too many scammers there, but still we can see many crypto companies and services promoted on his add network.
I guess there is a problem with newly created AdSense account to be approved on new website without any history and as an unknown source. Also, they have some changes in his policy in last year or two, not strictly related to crypto websites, then for all branches where there are worthless and pointless sites.
My account is 15year old and fully approved, no way to take my time and establish a few websites where I planned to put Google ads, maybe this will move me to test Google ads on crypto/Bitcoin websites.
