Title: Malware and security subforum?
Post by: escrow.ms on March 16, 2014, 04:13:58 PM
I think it will be great to have a malware and security forum where members (whitehats) can post guides etc for users and help those users who got infected/robbed/hacked or post warning about malware/infected files etc.

It's easy to avoid malware/hackers, but most peoples either don't know these things or fail to secure their pc/site etc secure due to poor security practices.

Ps: I know There are many guides article are available on net but either they are not in one place or not related to bitcoins.

If not a subforum, atleast just add a link somewhere of this forum
http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=11  (They are helping users since 2004)
Let me know your opinion.

I think that is a great idea.  Could also be an area for best practices both on the user side and on the service side.  Things like don't hash your passwords using MD5 with no salt (i.e. MtGox).

+1.

A lot of people assume Bitcoin itself is lacking security when they hear about stolen coins but it's often the negligence of a third party or the individual themselves. More education on the subject would prove that it's pretty much the same analogy as looking after a physical wallet.

what HF kids have to do with it? probably you got confused due to title of this thread.
Main purpose of that forum will be "security"

I think it sounds interesting. Besides general security guides/problems/discussions, people could also post news about hacked bitcoin websites, bug bounties, new phishing mails, etc.

Another site I've had a good experience with is http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/
They're very helpful in cleaning your computer but sometimes it might take some time for someone to take up your case.
I'd support the idea of a new subforum here if there would actually be a list of active users always helping out, instead of it turning into a subforum full of pleas and no resolutions.

Many thanks for sharing the link I'd like some input from others who know more then me on what would be my best bet for security these days.  I also support the idea of a sub forum to address these topics and promote discussion.  This forums has been hacked so I don't think it would hurt.

Probably a subforum for bitcoin-related security aspects? Like how to be a total tinfoilhat when using or hodling bitcoins and where to not keep bitcoins.

General security sub-forum would be great.
I can think of a tonne of how-to threads that could be posted up already.
