Title: How important is the name of a cryptocurrency project?
Post by: Rockie1234 on September 11, 2019, 03:32:27 PM
Just wanted to get your thoughts on this matter. Can the name of a project provide significant benefit or detriment to a project if it is appropriate/unappropriate or unattractive/attractive -sounding?
I am not sure how much of an impact it has.

For me its that important. However if it is easy to understand pronounce in a good way, it would be nice. Also if the name is a self explanatory for the intended purpose of the project, then it would be awesome and this is what I would look for.

The name doesn't matter a lot but it can give at least the popularity among the user if that platform uses or try to mention the popular coin on its name just like bitcoin fork coin which has used the name of bitcoin to gain the popularity.
But i believe the name gives nothing to the new coin which created its own unique name and it's not using a part of the name from the popular coin.

Of course it does. For example: Billionaire Token, fetish coin, JasonEdwardsCoin,  Fonziecoin (FONZ), Selfiecoin, Pizzacoin,  President Johnson coin, Putin, Putin Classic. The name alone you know you wouldn't take it seriously - a real shitcoin.

No.
Example, those altcoins that named after bitcoin. Most of them are spam coins and are made of fork but most of them failed.

It's true that all the  coins you mentioned are really shit coins. But cannot judge a coin on its name.
If a project has a good team and a good concept, its name looks good too.
If any one of these coins had a good team, its name wouldn't look that bad.

I am sure that the name is important for marketing reasons, but in my opinion it does not matter at all. A project that has a good team, working product, healthy community and is traded on leading exchanges can be named shitcoin, but I would still invest in it.

As long as it does not sound like other existing cryptocurrencies then it should be fine I guess. Or maybe you should not choose a name that will trigger some groups. There was this crypto called Fuck Token and they had issues getting listed on some exchanges because of their name.

Well name is equal to branding
Branding is kinda important when comes to ease of memorizing the name

The shorter the better, the easier the better
Look at
BitCoin, it is easy
Ethereum, it is tough

Thus, yeah it is important but not until the extend that it will affect the entire thing

And the branding itself explains how will the project survive and strive for the future, even some project used their brand to explain the project itself from different set of view.
for example Baskin Robbins, they are using capital B and R to tell us the name of the product and if you look at it closely you will see a number of 31.
that means they have 31 flavors.
so It is very important to choose a good name because it can help you in promoting the project and explaining the concept of the project itself.

A project name is a crucial part of it's branding. One tends to remember the name of a project when it appears simple. There are also names that sound so appealing to the ears. A good name doesn't guarantee returns, but it has a great influence in a crypto project.

I have no problem with the cryptocurrency. All I see is how its progressing in the market. If the crypto has a good roadmap with proper plan execution then I don't think the project name is important at all.

For example, Ethereum is tough in pronunciation but since its popular because of its market value. So, I really don't think the name of a cryptocurrency does matter at all. Rather, projects objective and its execution matters most IMO.

A project name can be a significant fact. For example Facebook had the name The Facebook it was harder to pronounce it and it was not as smooth as Facebook is. Superficial it seems not special but this change had some advantages so is the readability easier and the memorability got improved furthermore the search engines can find the name Facebook easier than The Facebook. So based on this example you can see some benefits on a good chosen name.

Hope i could help  :)

The name of the project for each participant seems to me to be perceived subjectively.
Of course, big words and promises can attract participants, but I also always check the development team to make sure that these are serious real people.

If the copied name doesn't explain the idea of the project with a single world then using it is the foolish first step by the team. There are famous crypto brands and everyone knows the meaning, applying case of the brands. If the name is not fresh, unique then thinking twice may help the team to launch the project or not. Dressing the project is important and unique brand project will be successful if they stick to the rules which they thought about it.

Of course, it's quite important. As with most products, the name gives a specific description and philosophy that the developer wants to convey to the user. Names that are easy to hear, say, and remember or are unique, will give a positive impression.

I believe the name of a cryptocurrency project is very important.  It is the initial step for branding the project.  It also define how well the project developer thought about it and how they value that project.  It also gives an initial impression to the project and the team.  Aside from that choosing the right name can give your project a boost especially if the project have a name that can be easily remembered or can be retained in the mind of the reader for very long time.

The name of a coin isn't very important but it would be better if the coin has a easy and self explanatory name so that the investors can always remember the name and it's usecase.

Can the name of a project provide significant benefit or detriment to a project if it is appropriate/unappropriate or unattractive/attractive -sounding?

If talking about the significant benefit to the project, I don't think that it will give the significant one.
However, the name of the project can be one of the points that will make the investors interested, it can be from its uniqueness, interesting name, or even a name that is easy enough to remember.

I am not sure how much of an impact it has.

The project name is very important and what makes me interesting is the project with the word name  "Coin ". In my opinion and that during this time I experienced, the project's existing word name  "Coin " can usually succeed.

But not only the name we have to pay attention to, but you also have to do research. Many projects are fake and they also have unique names. Stay before joining the Cryptocurrency project, let's do a check.

An appropriate name is required to a project in my opinion. Nowadays, people take cryptocurrency seriously because of how many dollars are involve in. If you name your coin inappropriately, for example "thanos coin" or "Le trollz coin", do you think people will take that seriously? I would not.

Yes, we do have a meme coin like "doge coin" that succeed but the only reason it succeeded was because it's one of the first coin created as a joke so people had fun on it until it became too big. Well doge coin has a purpose because it has one of the smallest fee and fastest transaction in the past so it's not really irrelevant.

But a name is a name, the real thing that would still drive people is its purpose.

A good-looking, beautiful name is also very important to the success of the project. It gives the customer a good impression and allows the customer to better remember the project, so a project can be wise to take a name when it starts. Make the project more memorable.

The name of the project is important because it is the first thing received by the potential investors, and should be attractive for them. But it is not the most important factors, in my opinion, there are more important factors like the product, the team, and the whitepaper.

as "currency" you want the name to be easy to pronounce, remember and in general you want it to be friendly all over the world so that people can easily use it without twisting their tongues! but the importance of name is not really something you should even spend that much time about. it is such a small thing. the most important thing is the project itself and whether it is really providing anything useful for the users to use it!
in short a shitty project with the best name would fail just like a shitty project with a terrible name.

Does it really matters? i guess not, i have seem weird project names in crypto space like en-tan-mo , taklimakan etc but the fact is they are good projects doing very well so names doesn't matter at all, investors must not pick projects because of names but what the project what created to deliver to users

Well, especially name is unique and has a clear philosophy towards project they are developing. Indeed, name of project is only 1 or 2 words, but a professional and real project will not only develop product, but they will think long about branding name they made.

It's not even a matter just branding names, but logo that they will plan must be in accordance with objectives of their project. So a branding name will explain everything about their project, of course, a name must be easy to remember and unique.

For me it's important, just like any business, a name should connote something about the business, I have seen a lot of useless and shit names in the ICO's in the past, I have seen one coin named Fartcoin, Barrabas coin, now who in the right mind will invest in this kind of coin.

Even if you have a very good concept, investors will not see that if you fail to give your coin a good name with a good recall and something that will represent your concept.

The first thing that came into investors' minds is the impact of the project's name. The target venue and the potential names are the very important as it will attract people to read about the project. If the name sounds great, it will have a certain recall and it will be able to catch interest, and it will be added from the list of possible targets to bring your money in.

Aside from its first impression, name also caters the weight of the project. If there's anything that will make investors to get more details about the project, it's the name that will work for them to come out.

Name of the project has a huge impact, in fact, some investors will readily invest in a project with a good name on it, and so many domain name is being reserved for projects, because it is one of the first that attract investors to a project, I remember one coin that has a name BIGUP and it created a stir because the name already has an impact and goal.

contributing more brand awareness that will be beneficial to the project itself. Imho.

I think Ethereum is a cryptocurrency that has a lot of positive impacts which I think is very significant for crypto life today. one example that is currently being discussed is the STO system on every current orogram. I think this system is very helpful for investors and especially like us bounty hunters. This system prevents fraud or a scam program. yes maybe it still exists in cyberspace as well as any system can still be misused by people who are less responsible.

The name of a project is an important element only if the project itself is good. The fact is that if a terrible project has the best name, it will still be a terrible project. It works and vice versa, a good project can have a terrible name.

Even though I would like to say no, it has some impact. Name and logo play essential role as a brand, and let´s be honest, we like nice things. I can not deny that a project with unique/appropiate/eloquent name make me to look at it deeper, so they have bigger chance to gain my attention. Such a small thing can be a starting point of the butterfly effect which can bring you to a total failure or a long-term success  :) Not the most important one, but no one is capable of studying every single project and we filter them by some attributes which are often not logical, but it is what it is  ;D.

To be sincere, the name giving to a brand or new project doesn't have any impact in the success of a project because what determine the success of a project is the concept and the outstanding features prepared by the project team. An example is Binance which is the combination of binary and finance. Mind you, the name was not what give Binance it current popularity but I will advise the OP just to make sure the name use is neutral i.e not use by an old project/company.

The name of the project should be clear to explain the idea of the project, otherwise, it is just a combination of the symbols. The concrete brands have a special name list when they started the business. The brand managers also advise thinking about the name of the project before joining the crypto ecosystem. The real use case of the project is more important for me than checking the meaning of the name in the chosen project. It is important for me to see a working product but the laughable names are not accepted as a legit project by me, to be honest.

I enjoyed reading comments below your post. The name matters but it’s not everything. And don’t forget that perception of it is really subjective.
What is your subjective opinion regarding the rebranding of the old project if you read the many opinions on this thread? The name matters and I am confident about the answer to the questions regarding he investing in the project which has a logo, name called "QWERTY'. The more useful names are there but the funny guys considered the being fame rather than attracting more investors to their hard prepared project?

Indeed, what matter most is the goal of the project, though the name does gives point to it, but it doesn't have the majority of its value. The are some fancy project name kut in the public but the project as a whole is ridiculously a waste of time and therefore its just a trash more likely it could also be a scam.

Project names are just names to be recognize as a whole. Even so it is important for we can just make a project that is anonymous but the team is publicly recognized.

Giving a coin a good name is a basic thing. How can they be trusted with our money if that's giving a good and simple name can be given a serious approach?

Choosing a simple yet catchy name for a project makes the project interesting but do not add any real value to the development of the project. The development and success of a project has got nothing to do with the name of the project but rather the idea behind the project, the expertise level of the team, the product of the project and its demand etc are some of the factors required for the success of a project.

It does matter because if the name is attractive it has an impact for people to became curious to know more about the project.

But this is only one of the factor. The important part is the project itself and the team behind it not just the name.

Because it will determine the success of the project and on how people support it though the services offer and the problem that they can solve.

all the branding, naming and logo are always important for any business, and must be done by professionals. Sometimes it is clear that a project will be a complete failure when you see a bad logo or a name that doesn't sound good for a global brand. You need to do a lot of research to know if a name is appropriate in different cultures. Who denies this does not pay much attention to the world around. Probably those buying "Abibas" shoes ;D

It has a huge impact, in fact, companies are spending time and money to get the best name for their project, we all want a name that is associated success, longevity and sometimes projects, explain why they come with that name, some famous and popular products has a great history on how they come up with their name.

This is ridiculous, you should choose by yourself to know if a name matters much
1. Choose a project with a very attractive name and very worse teams or have no working product and nothing to show for it or

2. Choose a project with a not so attractive name and yet have everything to show for it, they list on big exchanges and they work accordingly to their whitepaper, roadmaps and get listed on CMC

The choice is yours to make but for me, project names have nothing to do with what the project can deliver or its success

the name of the project is more dominant in popularity and usually it is an old project that launches their program again and of course old users who benefit or have participated previously will then participate again with the project, maybe the effect is like that.

I do not think that the name of a project can have a positive or negative impact on that project. Only a project with an interesting name can be catchy. And an interesting names can make us do more research because of the curiosity about that project. But I think the actual event depends entirely on the purpose, vision and team members of the project.

Names are vital, of course, not just crypto projects. Make sure it is a name that you like and is well known to everyone. This is important because most of it is a reflection of your project.

In trading a project their is what we called name of project that is very common to the manager that creates it but where guessing if it is important or not and for me it was slightly important because it is used to determine what's the name of the company and to easily convince the investors to join(if your company name was convincing)but by the use of whitepaper the name was getting useless because if they wanted to know something deeper to that company they can easily see it.

Cryptocurrency projects are no different from their non-cryptocurrency counterparts. The project name is a very important component of the project brand.
Any brand begins with a name. Bad brands have names that do not reflect the internal policy and purpose of the project, and they are also easily forgotten.

I believe that the name plays a big role in the success of each project. For me, the first thing that matters is the title, since it usually dampens the meaning of the project or its direction. You can right now look at the names of successful projects and you will see that they are at least consonant and make sense. I sometimes choose projects to participate based on the name and very often projects having strange and meaningless names already at the start turned out to be scam and scammers.

Most of the people will say it's very important, but it's not
Obviously you can't put any offensive name, but people will not judge a coin by the name

I work with advertising and today we have so many companies that name is not so important as before, think about most of brand names, and it doesn't make any sense, and people took a LOT of time thinking about a name that it's better to focus on another aspects of project

I don't think it's not that important and doesn't have much impact on investors etc. People usually interested on a quality project with an experienced and hardworking team, lots of partnership and attending blockchain events.

you mean speculators. yes these ones just pay attention to prices, to technical analysis charts. Investors are the ones who put money into the project for long term and stick to fundamentals. Professional and corporate investors usually have a higher education level, they understand and care about things like "brand equity". It's a good topic to research before giving opinions.

and usually the name has a certain philosophy that the project wants to convey. If there is the same name as another project it will certainly be confusing. A unique name will definitely be remembered more. So, choosing a name as the main door of a project is very important. However, many ignore it and are more concerned with the quality of the project. Each person has priority.

The name doesn't really matter much, unless it doesn't make sense like "shittoken" as an instance or using vulgar words etc. It's about the team's devotion and project development and not about the name.

Well, a name of a project being commensurate with the services and utility of the project in question, does a whole lot of good to the project. Having a name which is unrelated to the project could be a turn off to the project in the long run. Notably, like in every brand, packaging does a whole of good and the crypto space is no different. A project must have a solid name reflecting what it offers and as such name branding should be taken seriously.

Typically, good projects take a simple name as easy to remember , or take their names and put them in the title , the main thing for me is certainly not the name but the product itself and how it is made !

It has a huge impact, in fact, companies are spending time and money to get the best name for their project, we all want a name that is associated success, longevity and sometimes projects, explain why they come with that name, some famous and popular products has a great history on how they come up with their name.
You have a point but the name does not have any major influence in the project development. Although a nice sounding name with good meaning which may be associated with the goals of the project is catchy on the market, the main idea and product of the project development do not come from the name.  The success of a well developed product and project comes from an experienced team with well structured marketing strategies which will attract investors to the project.

the term project name has an influence on investors, but I would not say that the name of the project is very important. often new projects launch their cryptoqurency based on the name of the previous project, they use the name of the old project to attract market investment.
for example: bitcoin 5000 (BVK), BitcoinRegular (BTRL), BitcoinMoney (BCM), Bitcoin Platinums (BCP), etc.
and for me the most important thing is the performance of the team and marketing their products in the market, because that's what will determine the fate of their projects later.

Also it is very important to have a unique one and the tickle name which might have a same brand to others. that will occur a problem in having an exchange.
I just like to see new ones unlike those project who ride the hype like BTCgold or ETHgold.

Name should not be of concern at all to anyone, the only thing I just disagree with on name is making the name of the coin too long to remember even if it would have a shortened icon but it should not have a long name that would l make people not to easily remember it or call it when they need to make reference to it.

The most important thing In any project is not the name but the product of the project, and if the product is a real use case, there is no way that people will be concerned about name that much, and also the project development team must also be a solid, one, one that people can really reckon with and be proud of, once all these can be solid in any project, they the project will be good to go and be sustained till future.

I saw some projects which name based on their on name. i mean really. ;D ;D  I think it's a better to choose name a name from project what it's based on. For me yes, it can somehow provide us with the feeling of enthusiasm when reading the name of the coin. For me, the name of the cryptocurrency somehow determine its potential, it is the trademark that will be mark on the mind of someone that can read it. But one thing I've noticed, about names, if a project or coin mimics those already established coin name such as bitcoin cash, ethereum classic eth, doesn't perform very well on the market.

First impression lasts. A common statement that we read or heard and it can be applied with crpyto projects. A good name can catch people's attention. Provide a decent and catchy name of your project and it will allow investors to check and be interested with your project. Using lame names will not catch the investor's attention. Keep in mind that there's a lot of competition, so it's wise to have a good impression that lasts.

Yes, it is very important and the team must think very deeply about what will be the name of their project. The main thing is it must really describe the whole project and its name must be catchy and not hard to remember. But the most important thing is the credibility and reputation of the team whether the community will trust and support them.

Well, short and nice sounding names are mostly adopted by companies for their attractiveness & easy remembering by  customers. So if your project name is too hard, "shameful", or "boring" for your users to call/remember, they will find it embarrassing to share. But if you projects is irresistible or too useful, your users will naturally make it sound nice by shortening it or giving nice sounding names combination.
So, the name of your project matters alot as long as it is a good project

From the point of view of marketing, the project's name is important as a brand. Many teams quite successfully exploit the component of "the coin" in the name and are successful both among investors and bountists. Although for me this doesn't really matter-an other evaluation parameters of the project are important. But everyone chooses based on their own principles.

The name of the crypto will help to differentiate it from other crypto. It reflects to the brand and also to the category itself. Without having a name of the crypto, every individual will find it hard to differentiate and explain to other people what they want to buy, it is also important because it is the word what comes first into their mind when decided to buy in the market.

In my opinion, the name of a project would really affect the investors whether they would invest or not. In the first place, what should a project name should imply? Ofcourse the platform it of the project or what the project is all about. Some projects' sponsors are even indicated. The tendency in this case is that, investors would trust a project more which is backed with a popular company or sponsored by popular personalities which would give a higher tendency for the project to succeed.

Every name has an impact especially if you are using a project name that is very popular world wide. For example, you are launching a project with a name of nike.

As you know, nike is well known world wide and it can give positive response the investors especially if the nike company will honor the launching of that certain currency. The name of the project has its role for sure as you can't name it without representing the project. Also before you find the name you must be sure that there is nothing similar or near it ad the acronyms are available.

Another step would be to find catchy names as you see "Ethereum or Bitcoin" are both catchy and well think names. The last step would be that your tech to be similar with your name so people will know in what they're engaging it just by seeing the name.

I don't think that the name has a big effect unless the name contains negative elements and makes some parties feel disadvantaged. But for cryptocurrency, I don't think the name is a big influence, because I personally see projects based on the product and the team behind it. So, I don't really think about the name as long as the name doesn't contain negative elements or contains something that is misleading.

As long as the name of a coin is not offensive or violates a copyright law I do not see how the name of a coin could influence positively or negatively the long term success of a coin, what you must care about is whether or not a coin is being developed by serious people, if they have a plan, how trustworthy they are and if their project has any chance to be profitable if you invest in it.

However while the name of a coin should not have an effect on the long term it can have a short term effect, that is why there are so many coins with bitcoin in their name since they want to make you think that somehow they are improving the code of bitcoin and making it better and they do this to create hype.

The name of a cryptocurrency can speak a lot about the project but however most of the coins on the market have technical names which are not English words. A catchy name is nice to pronounce but do not really determine the success of the project. The success comes from the expertise of the team, the product, it’s use case etc.

the name of the project plays a great role. call it shit, and people will just walk by no matter what team they represent. beautiful names can come up with a lot, but still have to answer for this name!

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this matter. Can the name of a project provide significant benefit or detriment to a project if it is appropriate/unappropriate or unattractive/attractive -sounding?
I am not sure how much of an impact it has.
I think it makes an impact but it is not very essential actually. Smart people tend to look on how good your whitepaper is and the benefits they can get from your project. You should really name your project properly but most importantly, you should have a great whitepaper and team background.

The name might give you some significant clues about the motivations of a project.

Any project that uses a well known mainstream name / activity / reference in his cryptocurrency (like pizzacoin, or fitnesscoin etc.) should be approached with great reservation I think because chances are good that such a team is coming from completely outside the blockchain industry, and merely trying to piggyback on the marketability and coolness factor of crypto currencies for their mainstream business...

Nothing at all i think. If you have a good idea thoughtful plan and great team management then i don't think it's matter at all. But that not means you give your project name what ever you want. I saw some projects which name based on their on name. i mean really. ;D ;D  I think it's a better to choose name a name from project what it's based on. And choose small word and maximum two words is the best option i guess.
Why do you think that the name of cryptocurrency is nothing important? This is the first step in creating a cryptocurrency that's why the name is really important. Every crypto name is important, to know its differentiation and its use comparing to other existing cryptocurrency. Its name is the basement of its existence, it is like a mother naming its child.

If i'm not wrong if you go CMC website then you can see many good projects which name is not too much valuable. Like UNUS SED LEO, Crypto.com Coin, Basic Attention Token, ABBC Coin, Synthetix Network, BitCapitalVendor etc. Those are not cool names at least but those projects achieve their goals anyway.

And i totally disagree with you that line "Its name is the basement of its existence, it is like a mother naming its child". Great team management, thoughtful idea, huge communication etc should be core for the project. Just think without those thing you have a good name, should your project will be success one..?

I personally do not think the name of a project plays any role in the success or failure of the project. Even if it does it would be very minimal.
The success or failure of a project is determined by how hard working or lazy the team is and how they are able to market the project to the public and their targeted audience.

Naming is significant for cryptocurrencies just like every other product out there and that is because the name has to have a meaning and represent something for the platform and its users.

Also a catchy and easy to remember name is good especially when introducing the project to the offline or non Blockchain marketplace.
Good projects all have names that are easy to remember.

Unless you come up with an absurd name or offensive in popular languages, you are good to go. Investors would be more focused on the whitepaper than the actual name but it would be better if the name doesn't give a different meaning than what the project is trying to achieve. Many projects also use the names related to the project in a different language.
It would be better if the name sounds original, a name like litecash coin would not thrill people.
