Title: Manny Pacquiao has own cryptocurrency called Pac
Post by: rdbase on September 13, 2019, 07:22:02 AM
Never knew the former boxing champion had a cryptocurrency created for his merchandising and promotional licensing.
https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/2/20844831/manny-pacquiao-cryptocurrency-pac-merchandise-gcox

There have been some other celebrities doing this but didnt know about this athelete having his own coin. :)

added for more info to the exchange and the timeline of the coin
The "Pac" token will be listed on Singapore's Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX) and counts Pacquiao and ex-Liverpool and England soccer star Michael Owen as private investors, along with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling family. It is the world's first celebrity cryptocurrency. Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki, Owen and singer Jason Derulo also plan to launch their own crypto tokens with GCOX.
Okay lets put up some link on here https://www.zdnet.com/article/manny-pacquiao-launches-his-own-fan-backed-cryptocurrency/

https://medium.com/@gcoxofficial/michael-owen-joins-gcox-worlds-first-celebrity-crypto-exchange-as-investor-advisor-and-5d2e098f87bf
https://www.dayofdubai.com/news/gcox-signs-mou-his-highness-sheikh-khaled-bin-zayed-al-nahyan-expand-global-celebrity-token

No doubt that this GCOX would create some buzz into this crypto world yet its been backed by heavily rich and popular personalities.

Do you think such would ever go anywhere? Who wants to invest in a Cryptocurrency that is owned by one individual? Curious to see how the general public would look at it, coming from a sports personality who probably knows very little about the workings of blockchain.

When you already know who the creator of that crypto is and you know even more what this individual does for a living you would at least think twice before starting to use that crypto or even if you will invest in it.This is some great undertaking by Manny but I think it is more than he can handle.

I've heard about it since last year (2018) of first quarter and the launching has been delayed and now that it was final and there will be no more delay or any interruption for the launching.

Others might also think that Pacquiao coin(PAC) is the existing altcoin also named PAC but they are different.

There have been some other celebrities doing this but didnt know about this athelete having his own coin. :)
Yes, Akon too.

He can hire people to work on the project he has the money and always has the motivation to explore a lot of things, Pacquiao is a very enterprising guy he will explore everything that can help people and make him richer, even more, let's give him a chance, we have given chances to fake developers and admins, this one is an honest guy and God-fearing too.

Pacman launching the coin at the right time because he might retire soon and he can focus on managing his life after retirement, you know, he can still make money with his coin as even if he retired, his life in boxing does not end.

With his money, he can promote a lot of fights and this coin will be introduce to the boxing fans, it's like buying this coin to be a member of the fans club to be updated with the life of their idol, this is a pretty nice initiative, but @sunsilk is right, it was already plan last year, but they just find the right timing to launch it. We will see how this coin will be develop then.

This has been discussed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5180879.0) in our Local Board (Philippines). Manny Pacquaio is one of the truly aspiring filipino in our country and in fact lots of filipino are proud because of how he makes the philippines economy improve more. This token has got a lot of criticism and even me myself I don’t think manny needed to have his own coin.

In fact lots of filipinos said that if you will look at the use cases of this token at their website, this token is clearly just using manny popularity and I agree with it.

the problem of crypto owned by one person, in my opinion, is not a problem, in this case, Manny Pacquiao. because in my opinion ETH, BTC is also owned by one person before it is widely known, I see Manny wants to build an application regarding him, I think token Pac will develop, especially if supported by the financial he has, of course, the price of token Pac will experiencing balance.

It is certainly a nice and original way to do promotion; obviously, I don't think these coins will ever have value, but anything is possible.
Obviously, when everyone does it, it will no longer serve any purpose.

Yeah he probably knows little about blockchain technology but he has the money to hire specialist and experts in it. For it to be successful, he would definitely bring guys that has more knowledge about the business. It's not as if he would run it by himself. Anyways, why does people jump directly understimating Manny on the ways he does and in the end he became successful?

Exactly. It kind of weird for an individual to own and control Blockchain-based coin. It could be mere token though which is probably more appropriate for an individual like that.

I guess the coin was made for speculation. A coin should be much more useful than that

As far as i know this idea has already planned to be launched from last year but i have been forgetting to keep the latest update about that and another celebrity have already failed to launch their crypto due to the regulation problem.
But that token has on purpose and it's become a way to purchase merchandise but it looks strange why this token not even getting published by big press in the crypto.

I do not take such coins seriously. I think this is just a joke, these coins have no future and cannot have one. Hopefully someday this will end.

It' too early to tell and to judge. But yeah, with so many coins that are being created, hope this one can be useful in the future. Not because it is owned by our beloved countryman Pacquiao but because of it's main purpose and goal. Some said it was some usual coin that will not be successful at the end, but let this coin a chance. If there is a future for this coin or none, let us see what will it takes.

I just want to invest also in this project because this was another cryptocurrency named and owned by celebrity. I just want to see what will be the outcome to this another unique and experimental project that made by the team of Manny Pacquiao. In the field of marketing PAC tokens are really fired up and has no problem in marketing because the name itself is already popular and no need to market at all.

Why not Manny Pacquiao has been known as a very enterprising guy, he is very charitable I'm pretty sure he will be successful on his new venture, the guy is preparing to leave boxing and he wants something to work on when he left boxing.

Since many people are coming in the Cryptocurrency, maybe he was adviced that there is a huge profit to be made, if he entered the market being a very popular and iconic athlete.

That's good to hear if Manny has in own cryptocurrency. I would love to invest in it since Manny is a good person(but unfortunately they are not raising their fund for investors) and I do believe that his crypto is legit and I know I can earn from it. There is no need for you to think twice. Every time Manny won a fight he will give money to a lot of poor people in his country and he spends millions on it and he doesn't really care as long as he can see poor people smiling and thank him for what he did. That what makes him more popularity.

Well you are right about it Manny is known to be a really good person who love's to help and donate to the poor.
And always share's his blessing who knows maybe everytime that he would win or get a huge profit he would give some of it to the PAC holders.

Looks like an attempt to cash in on his fame, I don't see why this shouldn't go straight into the sh*tcoin bin.

However, knowing that there are a huge number of Filipino cryptocurrency users, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually achieves some semblance of success.

I don't see why he couldn't just use something like Patreon for the exact same purpose...

Yeah I agree with you there. He is thinking of making money from his legacy after he eventually retires and I would think it would be soon as his last fight showed this. He is slowing down and can not take anymore punishment from the younger boxers.
This is used more for promotional advertisement with offering them to his fans then anything to do with advancing blockchain technology. ;D

It's really interesting. From the one hand, new coin from one man, but from the other hand, this guy have a Big and famous name, and token, he made, may will be famous too, and we all know that cruptocurriency is really depend of popularity. And from this side, this cruptocurriency can be interesting, but truly I don't believe in that.

I will not surprised if  Senator Manny Pacquiao will launched his own crypto. Because all we know that he is very big interest about polictics and business. And all we know that he can provide enough fund to provide his own project and his own crypto. And as a world boxing champion I think marketing is not really a problem for him.

The only reason anyone would even consider buying this is if they are interesting in buying his merchandise/goodies. Probably going to get a discount for paying through the token in their gateway.

exactly. because that its the purpose of this coin at the first place and not meant to bypass other cryptos or for the people to make use of it as an investment tool.   there are other athletes or sports personalities that does this idea and some are now seeing positive results when it comes to thier earned profit.  if we want to support the people behind this brands then we should buy thier coin but if not then better go only for those traditional cryptos because its more beneficial to support them.

This is a clear example of a coin created only to have a coin with your name, there is nothing that you can do with this coin that cannot be done with fiat money or other traditional means. It's clear that, in view of the boom of cryptocurrencies, the man wanted to associate his name with them and join the trend, which is not a bad thing for cryptos indeed.

Well if you really a die-hard fan then for sure you will buy this token to support and buy the merchandise of Manny Pacquiao. In fact, he conducted a free concert in the Philippines when he officially launches he's own cryptocurrency and I think that was a good awareness in the Philippines about cryptocurrency and blockchain.

I heard this last week, which will be list on GCOX. This is no wonder that the popular boxer and senator to his country will
make his own crypto. This is showed that crypto space has a big impact now in the entire world so far, So I think PAC coin
will become one of the potential coins in this crypto business especially if PAC coin will be list on top of the exchange at CMC.

With regards to the technology and the cryptocurrency in general, I think Pacquiao has a little knowledge about it but since he has a lot of money he can hire experts and some people who can manage his coin.

I want to support the coin he wants to create because he is a helpful person and helps many people in our country but if we will see the purpose of the token, I don't see any significant benefits of it to the user. Just my opinion.

I prefer watching on how it is  unfold.  Since the coin is still in a planning stage, it is too early to tell what it will be when it launches.  Manny have the money to organize and build such project.  He can easily hire resource persons that can deliver the goal of the projects.  With or without crowdfunding, with his stash, he can keep this project running.  Though I agree with you that it is better to choose a project that is started by a famous person than those who are unknown since if ever he messed up, it is a huge set back to him and I believe he will do all he can to avoid such tragic thing (investment lost) to his supporters and followers.

I respect Manny Pacquiao as an athlete, but it seems to me that creating a coin was not necessary. Practice shows us that the coins created by famous athletes do not bear any value and no benefit to the community, so they gradually die. It would be better for athletes to wear T-shirts with the Bitcoin logo and start using it in everyday life.

The timing to promote crypto currency is indeed a great time as sportsbet already shown its interest and begin to bring crypto inside football industry,. With this Manny Pacman's coin, things will be added to crypto space. For sure, those who are idolizing him will also support this crypto once being learned.

Pac-Coin, being name after people's champ, would be a great promotion from this industry. It's best to have a well-known personality to be added inside the market.

All these individual currencies, I don’t really see any essence in them, and I feel they are just using it to exploit people and their fans are the ones that would really fall for this tactics and gimmicks, i have also heard of Akon’s cryptocurrency too and I ask if majority of them really understand what cryptocurrency is all about.

It is a good thing though that we have celebrities adopting cryptocurrency now; it would help us to create awareness faster. like these champion now, his fans will get to know about cryptocurrency through him, and for Akon who is in the music industry it would be easy for his fans too to get to know about the cryptocurrency now, but still at that, everyone needs to be careful about creating cryptocurrency so that we don’t end up creating a junk project that will only make the crypto market congested of coins.

Manny Pacquiao could be the athlete that can successfully get his coin in the top 20, he is a very enterprising guy and a very generous person too, and since he is very popular there will be demands on his merchandise, even if he stopped boxing he can make this project successful he can integrate this to all his business.

Perhaps the communities of athletes and famous people need to agitate them to start using Bitcoin? This will be the best advertisement for Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies, increase the number of Bitcoin users and make it much more popular than today. But such stocks must be massive otherwise we won’t get a big result.

We can't expect that it will happen instantly, Manny being one of the famous athlete in the world are getting involve in crypto is a good sign.
Of course, he would also market his coin to the boxing community and since he is still actively fighting and a very popular boxer, he could influence the boxing industry, actually people just need to be educated to see how useful crypto is and I think this requires time so let's be patient.

I also think that their are just using Manny's popularity in some cases he allegedly has business with his name written on it which he always deny. Pacquiao is old for boxing but not for business, If he wants to pursue on this kind of industry then go, let people who wants to support to their thing. Pacquiao is known across the globe and maybe this coin will do so.

Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki, Owen and singer Jason Derulo also plan to launch their own crypto tokens with GCOX.

i never heard of this exchange  before but its name is simillar or sounds like mt gox ( also an exchange) . is gcox a new exchange?  or i am just not updated recently on whats hot or not when it comes to exchange talks.

it is the world's first celebrity cryptocurrency.
actually its not.   many cryptos before are created or sponsored by popular celebrities before this pac token rumor came out but this should be the first  major celeb that represent the philipine country that has a crypto related business.

This is what use to get me tired about these projects, you have already started with a very good hype that would have made the project a very successful one because of the popularity of the owner of the coin, and the nest thing should have been that he will list in on reputable exchanges like binance and other top ones rather than some of this shit exchanges that will end up making the project dump and become a shit coin later in the future.

I am just suspecting that he has alliance with the exchange and just trying to promote the exchange using his influence. There will actually be an initial hype for this coin and I really see it pumping hard when it is being released, but sustaining this project is what I really cannot guarantee that much.

The crypto-currencies fire is buzzing everywhere . I think it is a question of when will the general public adopt crypto. There is no doubt that soon it will become a household name. May Manny's pac do well when it gets listed on an exchange

Okay lets put up some link on here https://www.zdnet.com/article/manny-pacquiao-launches-his-own-fan-backed-cryptocurrency/

https://www.dayofdubai.com/news/gcox-signs-mou-his-highness-sheikh-khaled-bin-zayed-al-nahyan-expand-global-celebrity-token

No doubt that this GCOX would create some buzz into this crypto world yet its been backed by heavily rich and popular personalities.

While it's commendable that our celebrities are joining the crypto fray and will help with publicity which is very much needed, yet, I am poised to ask if effort on the blockchain must have its own crypto. The last time I checked, Akon is set to launch his cryptocurrency too and some other celebrities. I get we just have to focus on the positive sides of their involvement

Gradually cryptocurrency began to penetrate the sports world today, even now there are soccer clubs sponsored by crypto gambling houses, namely sportsbet and of course this proves that cryptocurrency began to develop positively and of course this also proves that cryptocurrency is starting to be accepted by various communities, I personally strongly support the issuance of coins made by Manny Pacquiao

I know about sportsbet bringing more awareness of bitcoin to the masses with having the official BTC logo on the sleeves of the watford jersey
which I happen to win one in a giveaway (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1458034.msg52463966#msg52463966) they were doing in their ann thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1458034.msg52480346#msg52480346).
But having an face to a cryptocurrency is entirely different. In terms of what it represents.
This coin is all about manny pacquiao and his brand
nothing more..

I heard about this coin and I thought it was a fake that there just using Manny's name
but I got shocked when the announcer said Pac Coin when he about to enter the ring when he is fighting Matisse.
So the Pac-coin was real after all.
But I dont view it as a fake like those who heard of putin coin or trump coin.
As you know very well those two do not endorse those iterations of crypto currencies and were ment to be more of a joke on those two world leaders.

note added quoting from Lanatsa to the first post of the thread.
Thanks and credit goes to them on these links for more information on the progress of this coin.
