There are many. EOS, Cardano, Neo, Waves, Stellar, Tron just to name a few. More and more next "Ethereum Killer" will come out.

On your own list i am fine with ETH and BTC sharing the same crown but in crypto space today as per Coinmarketcap bitcoin is still taking the lead and no other coin is close, ETH is the second highest performing coin on the list while ripple is in the third position,the 4th is BCH, you should use CMC cos coins are rated on CMC base on marketcap and volume

don't forget about BNB, because now BNB run on its own chain
so, Binance coin now a part from "ethereum killers" group mate, maybe this coin is the strongest competitors from ethereum
because a lot of project move from ethereum blockchain to Binance chain

Do you have to ask that obviously it's the second popular coin in the market with its innovation and support from the community

I don't argue on what's showing in the market cap, it is a one guide for us not to get lost in investing

Right now yes, Ethereum is the second ranked coin on the coinmarketcap and other ranking sites to have the highest market cap after bitcoin.

Actually this make no sense, if a coin is ranked 3rd, 4th or 5th that's good but what matters is on how they can keep their rank there. Few years ago it was the spot of other altcoins but now, where they are?

Many altcoins has made already their own network like BNB and TRX but I don't think that they are par with Ethereum. We have to see it first that they have to replace Ethereum on its current rank.

I agree that ethereum and bitcoin are number one in the hearts of fans and their use. but in reality bitcoin dominates nearly 70% of the crypto and etherum markets in second place. and I think for the third rank that will reach the podium is binance because in addition to having its own exchanges, binance has fast service capabilities and the ability to stabilize prices so well. so even though BCH is a part of Bitcoin, it's still inferior to the function of binance in the crypto world.

Nope, I think BCH will start to fall behind other cryptocurrency.  Remember when it was first forked out of Bitcoin?  It was so popular but it was short lived.  Reason, it has no new technology to offer to the crypto industry.  I do agree that BCH has troubled matching Bitcoin with regards to adoption and being approved and accepted world wide.

I do agree with OP that ETH is second of the most accepted/adopted cryptocurrency, but who knows, somewhere in the near future a new cryptocurreny may take over ETH the same way it took over the place of LTC.

It's clear by market capitalization, bitcoin is number one and far outweigh others in traded volume, which means it's in a class of its own, no form of competition whatsoever. We can conveniently say that Ethereum is in number spot and the head of altcoin in terms of market capitalization but not in anyway in league with bitcoin.

He's probably not using any metrics but is instead just speculating wildly--just like most people here seemingly do.  Everybody has their favorite altcoin, sometimes for illogical reasons.

Yay, NEO!  Speaking of favorite altcoins, this is mine.  I'm not confident it's going to end up being an "ethereum killer" but I very much like the concept of earning GAS simply by owning some NEO without even having to have the wallet open.  I don't think there are any other coins like that, and if there are I'd love to hear about them.

I'm well aware of market caps being used as a metric for deciding which coins are the "best" but I tend to think it's a poor indicator.  That said, I would agree that a list of best coins below bitcoin would have to include ETH and probably at least the top ten on Coinmarketcap.  All of that could (and probably will) change with time.  I'm hoping NEO will move back up the list, but I'm not so sure these days.

Aside bitcoin, there are many promising coins that are doing relatively well on the market. In  terms of market dominance, bitcoin would always be number one since  it has the  largest share on the crypto market in terms of capitalization. Ethereum also has a great influence on the rest of the altcoins due to the high competition it gives to bitcoin.

Bitcoin remains the number one crypto followed by Ethereum. I personally prefer Bitcoin Cash to Ripple, but Ripple has established itself to be third best used crypto for sometime now.

BTC's absolutely first. There's really no denying this at this point in time, though there's a chance this could change in the future. ETH's second in my eyes and by market cap, though if you're going by market cap even though XRP's third, I'm not a fan of it at all and I'd put maybe LTC or Monero behind ETH. They've both been around before I even knew about crypto, and I love the more anonymous aspect of Monero, though certain exchanges seem to not like it as much.

Is your ranking based on market capitalization? If so coinmarketcap already has that data.  BTC remains first obviously and ETH second, even a noob is aware of that. Third for now is XRP and the ranking continues. You can check other sources like coingecko to see ranking based on market capitalization. If its based on project development or how valid the coin is, personal research  is needed.

These cryptos were founded from the developer who made such a drama at cryptocurrency. You remember right, because of the drama at BCH they making a hard fork and creating more a shitcoin (BCHABC VS BCH SV) These 2 founders make a disaster at crypto market went they doing a hash war. Lets us not include BCH for the rank.

If your ranking system is based on how awesome the project is, then BTC is king, next is ETH like you mentioned and then others will be based on personal opinion. My third will be LTC, then next is EOS and XLM. My ranking is based on project development and what I look out for in a good project. If based on market capitalization, then use coinmarketcap, its that simple.

You can check coinmarketcap for the correct statistic information and for finding the dominance value per altcoin. Altcoins are only dominant less than 30% in the crypto market, checking the altcoin index will let you calculate exact dominance value. The current ranking system is not 100%  right, the fake volume generated by the trading bots is also added to the coinmarketcap values. If you have a diversified portfolio, you can list your favorite altcoins which have higher ranking too. The new altcoins listed on the coinmarketcap.com have an incorrect marketcap calculation due to the lack of the exchanges which the altcoin listed. Just keep it in your mind if you see such a contradiction.

Yes, no need to guess here. Head to cmc page and he will get data and information that he needs. Though there are data like the fake volume that you mentioned, yet, you can use that as a general basis of what you want. And if you are really serious in investing to a particular altcoin, then, you can study more the trading behavior and other development updates for that specific coin.

Why do you need to know this? Third, fourth, fifth place, and so on are constantly changing places because of the price change and coins capitalization. I do not see any reason why this is followed.
The opportunity to earn a coin does not depend on the place in the list, and from the growth of the price coins after you bought it.

I don't think you understand the dynamics of the marketcap valuation, I can decided to create 1 trillion tokens and pump it one exchange and make it number one of the CMC. The most important thing to me is the sustainability of a project and also the ability to attract users which would result into revenue generation long term

You can make your own ranking based on your own analysis and criteria, but the data showed in the site I provided are just ranking based on their marketcap, and it terms of coin real value, it could not be accurate, so like I said, you can make your own with proper research.

Last thing, there is no such thing as 2 coin in number 1, it should be one coin per rank.

If you are talking about Market Capitalization of Cryptocurrency, you can look at CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko for that kind of thing. They have complete data of so many popular coins and they rank it based on the coins market cap.

Among other altcoins, ETH is indeed the most prominent and popular. The most widely adopted technology and products by projects in cryptocurrency are quite evident. Until now, the ones that have other strong products, I think, are Waves and Ripple. These active products and teams provide their own strength for the formation of markets and broad networks.
That's right, for more accurate results based on statistics, it is indeed more appropriate to analyze it through coinmarketcap or coingecko.

Bitcoin is number one. That is pretty much beyond any argument. However, there is not a single altcoin that deserves to share the throne with Bitcoin, not even Ethereum. Ethereum will have to be at the second overall spot. But it is the number one spot in the altcoin sphere. The third place down to the lower spots, any other altcoin could vie for it. Definitely Bitcoin Cash is not the third in rank. Ripple and Litecoin are much better than them.

There's no knowing which is second, which is third fourth or fifth as they're all dependent on their market caps which can increase at any given time. Sometime last year Eth was third now its second it can still go back to third if any other token gets trded more than it which is most likely to occur.

Just look at coinmarketcap and you would see which coin is competing will ETH  ;D The rank is fair in my opinion and I am only disappointed with the 3rd position. How can people push a centralised crypto currency to the top, I still cannot understand it.

Bitcoin is the king of crypto and will remain there, because no other crypto is even close to Bitcoin and will probably never get there. Bitcoin is by far leading the category. Eth is the next to follow but I think it will be beaten surely.

BTC will definitely always be king and I don't see any coins getting pass ETH and btc in the next few years, especially with ETH making constant development and more coins are utilizing ERC-20. Your question is quite surprising to me because i don’t know what you are trying to ask, are you asking based on our personal opinion or grading? Because there is a special place already that has been created that is reporting on the performances of those coins, which you can see them according to their ranking, and of course no one can compete with bitcoin, not even Ethereum, bitcoin is always first, followed by Ethereum on the coinmarektcap.com.

The third one on the list of coinmarketcap is what I actually disagree with and I think it is bch that actually deserve to be there, or binance coin, because sometimes I don’t use all those fork coins, so I would not know exactly their usefulness to me and to the general public in quote.

We have a different opinions and idea of which is first, second, third or soon. But ofcourse we all agree that a successful project and best project can be seen in the marketcap of it. Therefore, if we look them in CMC, it's well organized. We can see Bitcoin is the number 1 and Ethereum is number 2 but because the time is running, there will be a change, there is possibility that Ethereum will be replaced if there will be a new marketcap of a currency that is bigger from it.

It's good you mentioned that you think. everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, there's a certain criteria utilized by many in the space to determine coin rank and worthiness and that is the market capitalization. The higher your capitalization, the higher your rank.

When ranking the coins. for me, it's always been the volume and the popularity, by popularity what I mean is market dominance, and Ethereum is placed at second at 8% market dominance and since Bitcoincash is ranked third at 2% it is likely Ethereum's rival.
Of course, Bitcoin will always be placed first because dominance now is very huge at 80%

Coinmarketcap is the best place to see the rankings of the coins but if you believe into something then so be it. I don't have much time learning what's the top coin because my priority is to look for a best coin that can give profit to me despite of their rankings. You'd better to focus on the technology and not the rankings because a lot of coins on top that is not working well and can't give profit to you.

Bch me a coin that is not strong , do not understand why this coin is so big capitalization , I think bitcoin is and will be the first coin in capitalization , and I agree with you that litecoin needs to be in 4th place.

So the two have almost the same but different goals, the price value is indeed very far but I think Ethereum is able to increase again.

In the third place is XRP and I think XRP was trying to compete with Ethereum in the marketcap although it is too difficult to beat Ethereum. It seems Ethereum wants to make its position stronger with the last pump that happens yesterday.

I guess that if the bull run comes, the position of every coin can change, and we will see a new position later. But that will only happen if many coins can jump drastically on the market because the other coin is waiting from a long time ago to lift their price. Maybe they have a power in the next bull run so they can increase the rate with the volume at the market.

discussing the altcoin problem that has potential, of course it can be a long talk, because developments will always happen, and there will always be new altcoins with more potential. at the moment, we judge the best altcoin in terms of volume, and transactions that occur. because the more transactions there are, the greater the needs of people for that.

The 3rd biggest is Ripple for a long time. But it doesn´t matter which cryptocurrency is the biggest according to coinmarketcap website. They rank cryptocurrencies by capitalization and not by number of users, number of transactions or trading volume. So it can be a bit misleading which cryptocurrency is the biggest.

XRP is not good for long-term investment as the coin is in a correction phase so there will definitely be a lot of big volatility if you invest right now. I think it is best for us to wait for this market to enter a bull phase because it is a very good time for us to make a profit. Maybe not be able to make a good profit on the bear market but if we trust Bitcoin then anything can happen.

Is Ethereum the second coin in this space? The answer is a capital YES, although once in while, XRP overtakes it but it still regains its position. Looking at Coinmarketcap it is evident the closest rival to Ethereum is XRP while in terms of other features, is BCH thus I can agree with you that BCH is the third. EOS is a major competitor to ETH. because these are the two businesses that have a great technology platform in the crypto market.
All are in development and they need more time to improve their technology in the future.

For now bitcoin is still in the no. 1 spot because of the value of this coin is very high and follow by the ethereum.

Well, it's your opinion, but for me, there are lots of coins that has good potential. And maybe BCH is one of them.

Bitcoin is definitely top rated in the industry currently, and is unarguably the first or number one coin. I think if we are to measure pother altcoins that follow suit in no order, then we must make mention of altcoins like Ethereum, Ripple, Lite, to mention a few. I think there are a good number of altcoins doing great in the market currently and I personally cannot overemphasize on the need for anyone to make their research and the one that works best for them.

I don't think that we will see some changes in the top 5 coins. They will remain like that for many years because they have already established themselves.

What's interesting is the top 6-10 coins. There could be a lot of movements around specially that there are coins such as BNB that is good, but coins like Cardano/Monero/Tron who's trying to break into the top 10 so it's going to be some movements around.

Bitcoin will be number 1 in the crypto market. But for the next position is too difficult because every coin has the same potential. So far, ethereum still leads the other altcoin and it can always lead in the next bull run, but I think we will see a change of the position in the next bull run. The altcoin will be ready for the coming of the bull run, and they will make sure to get a better position.

Meanwhile, besides ethereum, I think eos, cardano, monero, or the other coin can replace the position now, but we don't know yet. We still need to be patient to wait for a while because it is hard to predict which coins can increase later.

I do not put ethereum on the second given its performance over the past months. My number one coin is bitcoin which is a real digital currency. Second on the list comes BNB. I find BNB more good and a good investment coin than ethereum from many angels. Other good coins are Beam, bittorrent.

We have a different opinion with the ranking of cryptocurrencies but for me, bitcoin will still in the top rank of all cryptocurrencies and ethereum will the 2nd. We all know that bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that based on that you can be determined who will be sat in the first rank. You can also look in the coinmarketcap and once you see the ranking of all cryptocurrencies you will really say that bitcoin is really suited to call the rank 1 among all cryptocurrencies. If altcoin rank is determined by transaction volume, of course it can change all the time depending on the transactions that occur, I see in past few weeks it seems like usdt is one of the altcoins that has the highest transaction volume in the past week which reached US $21,659,375,795, and this makes usdt ranked first. While BTC experienced a decrease in the volume of transactions which was only around US $18,610,524,628 and this made BTC rank second at the moment. Bitcoin reached the top not because of the value but genuinity and the spirit of cryptocurrency. The ranking changed 2 years ago for a couple of times, and there is a possibility for us to see some change in the future.

Bitcoin is certainly in the first place and will remain so for a long time. As for other positions, Ethereum does not look too attractive to me for the role of second place, just like ripple. But the BCH you called is worthy to enter the top five, in second place I would put Litecoin, due to its direct succession with bitcoin. Also, lightcoin performs quite well during the growth of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the king and this will likely remain this way for sometime because none of the Altcoins is solving the scaling problem in a Decentralize way, Ethereum also will remain in the second position for some time and I will give Tezos chance of claiming the number 3 position, we have not seen the full potential of the project because of the legal issue in court the recent EOS fine makes me to believe their chances of winning the case has increased significantly

That's right about Bitcoin, Bitcoin has always been the first in the cryptocurrency sphere and will always be, because Bitcoin is the basis of cryptocurrency and without Bitcoin cryptocurrency would not have appeared, but about the second place, I also think that Ethereum comes second after Bitcoin, after all, the demand for the capabilities of Ethereum technologies and services are very huge, but after Ethereum I no longer know which cryptocurrency deserves to be in third place.

With so many altcoins aiming for such different goals, it is very difficult for me to put them into a ranked list... if you mention payment/money coins, I would name BCH as the second, in smart contracts Ethereum would be 2nd, in privacy Beam would be 2nd.....

Don`t agree. XRP has the widest network of partners in Japan and South Korea. These countrie are leaders in Hi-Tech technologies, so I don`t expect that Ripple will stay at it`s price, it should grow anyway. Bitcoin is a dark horse, today this currency is mostly using for trading/speculative purposes. It can drop in price without any reasons as well...

For me, i consider Bitcoin as the father of cryptocurrencies and the remain altcoins as the sons and daughters of bitcoin.  I don't really classify altcoins, i see them to be the same; as trying to use bitcoin algorithm to create something better than bitcoin.  But if I'm to rank altcoins in relation to their idea and technology, ethereum is the next coin after bitcoin..

I don't understand why may people always place Ethereum as the second in position after Bitcoin.
It's not because it ranks second in CMC or may seems popular after Bitcoin, but there are some better coins out there which are way better Ethereum.
Talk of Cardona, Stellar, EOS and other; these are coins which are capable of taking the position of Ethereum in the long run.

Giving a number depends on what point of view will be calculated. If calculated in terms of price and daily volume, then Bitcoin ranks 1. If calculated based on supply, maybe Bitcoin ranks to 1000. If calculated based on prices, bitcoin number 1, number 2 Maker, and  BCH number 3.

I am not sure that binance will still be able to use IEO hype to increase the value of their coin again, because it seems like the hype for IEO is drastically dyeing down unlike the initial time that it was introduced, and this is quite too quick, many people right now are so much relying on IEO after the ICO industry has been tampered with already and has lost its trust.

With the way that IEO started, so many investors feelings towards IEO was revived again, and it is surprising to me why binance is really not going full force into this like the way Ethereum did with many ICO in 2017 which we can see was the factor responsible for the altcoin bull run then, so if binance can do same, i think this will help the new bull run and also help binance coin too, and make them eventually displace ripple and become the 3rd most used coin.

I think most of crypto users are agree that Ethereum is the second. 1st Bitcoin, 2nd Ethereum. About the 3rd, it's hard to choice, there are so many good altcoins like BCH, LTC, XRP, BNB and else to get the spot for 3rd but if we compared them all with the market cap then XRP will be the 3rd.

In such a volatile market, ranking are often changing. This is mostly ordered by market cap, and volatile price prevents fixed habitation. Only BTC was always there, and will be, and all those who came after it found their places as time passed. Recently, most of the stable coins are placed in the first places, and the useful ones went to the back, and that shows the sequence have to be renewed.

You can always look at CMC or coinmarketcap.com to see what coins are currently competing. Although it is a paid site by managing and changing volumes of different exchange sites, it is still a good statistics for cryptocurrency. I remember that TRX made it to top 3 at some time. It was the time when TRX was from 500 sat to 2000 sat.

BTC leads among all cryptocurrencies and ETH indeed follows second. You can check sites like cryptocoinrankings.com and coinmarketcap.com or any other site that is on the top when you use google. The industry of cryptocurrency is very dynamic and slight changes in the market reflects immediately in the rankings. So, before you invest on one or two of those, always check and analyze on your own if you need to change your strategy. Changes in ranking also of course reflects on the potential income you can get from investing.

Open coinmarketcap website looking there which one altcoin on second, third and fourth position after on the top place by bitcoin, there have altcoin position based on how much volume transaction in daily day of altcoin but for bitcoin never any altcoin can replace of bitcoin on the top first place in coin market cap forever.

Do you have your favorite site like market cap or you are not aware that there is a site like Coinmarketcap where you can check the standing, volume and price of variosu coins in the market I guess you are not aware of these things, the standing will clearly answer all your questions and give you insight on various coins' performance.

I can't really tell who is going to be the first, because btc is firmply placed in that position. Eth makes me feel doubtful lately, though.

The records state the position of each coins according to it's market cap, Bitcoin and ETH still holds the number 1 and 2 spot consecutively, we seen both bch and xrp able to snatch the place from ETH but afterwards the coin regained it's place. We do have a tough judgement picking what coin to be next in line, but things should be decided with how the coin performed and what addition it can bring inside the industry.

the crypto market is very unpredictable and price fluctuations can change at any time, but I think ethereum can be considered the second best altcoin after bitcoin. but some other altcoins like 3,4,5 and so on, they all compete with one another and even have the same expectations as ethereum. but it all depends on how the developer in developing their project so much better than before.

It is never that simple, even if there are coins out there that can match ethereum or even surpasses it in terms of their technology ethereum has gained the trust of a significant number of people in the community and they are not going to stop trusting ethereum just because a new coin appeared that claims to be better, so I'm really confident that ethereum is going to remain at the top of the market for years to come especially when the developers of ethereum are working very hard to improve their coin.

That is my point also. No coin can replace ethereum or bitcoin because they are the whole reason why people started considering digital currencies worth of their investment. These coins have large community support. They have laid the basis of crypto market. Ethereum is a slow mover but they thing is, it has been able to survive from the toughest of the situations. Also, everything keeps on evolving with time and so will Ethereum.

I agree with you . If that coin has big news then its value tends to increase and recently ETH is considered the best option in this market. I think the price decrease of Bitcoin will not affect much on the value of ETH in the future so now is a very good time to buy some ETH. I don't know what will happen to this coin but ETH is getting a lot of support and they are willing to spend money to invest this coin.

Its depends on the market capitalization, In my opinion is for the future. For me only thing that needed in the market was alt coins with a lot of use-cases so people are start making interest on the alt coins. All we need is wait the progression of one of the most cryptocurrency that will be most market cap in the future.

If seen from the market cap value in coin marketcap, I think the competition in the top 5 is very tight. The cryptocurrency market is very dynamic and ethereum could go down to rank 3, everything can happen in the market. The most important thing in my opinion is that we invest in coins that are in the top 10 or coins that have large daily transactions

Bitcoin on the first and at second place have ethereum and ripple for third place, place on market cap depend how much transaction volume for some coin every day, some time Ripple become on second place because they have much transaction and now ethereum back to second place and ripple at the third.

BCH, XRP, LTC, NEO, BNB and the likes I think, would follow the lead. But the bottomline here is market volatility  How can I say? The market itslf is becoming more unpredictable as days goes by. There will be days in favor for some cryptos and days which are not. This implies, in my opinion, that predicting which one would be on top when pumps took over the market would be difficult at this moment. Determining which one would be profitable is a bit blurry right now. We should rather focus holding and prolonging our patience at situations of such.

Generally speaking yes, they always go to second place. But for the place of 2nd, there's ethereum that has ever been consistent to that spot.
They have been rivaled with XRP and replaced it's position a few months ago but it didn't stay there for a long time. @OP 3rd for BCH? no.

Bitcoin will always be on top and we can't question its position. It has been very consistent and investors put their focus on it. Ethereum is following its footsteps but it still has to go through a lot. Ripple, Bch and other altcoins could be considered as top coins but their spots might change based on every market situation. All in all, nothing beats Bitcoin because it's the most trusted digital currency for now.

Bitcoin will always remain in the lead. Now there will be a war for the second place. But I think that Ethereum will lose this war. ETH will remain the second coin on CMC, because there are no real competitors. XRP is centralised, LTC is not doing anything exciting. I believe EOS should be the third crypto, because this coin is very underrated nowadays and should become more popular within the upcoming couple of years.

BTC will always be number one even though market capitalization will change at any time. He is a pioneer in the crypto world, will not be replaced. For the second one might be Ethereum. I disagree, bitcoin has a very high chance of remaining in the first place forever, most other coins are based on bitcoin and its technology, if there is a flaw that could make the price of bitcoin to crash to zero I can assure you that 100% of the altcoins will go to zero as well, so no coin will surpass bitcoin in that scenario and if you are thinking about a coin eventually surpassing bitcoin then that will not happen either as whatever innovation is implemented in a new coin it could always be implemented in bitcoin if it works making that coin obsolete in the process.

In this market, Bitcoin is the coin most held by people so this is the coin always in first place. I think there won't be any altcoins that can be compared to this coin because when people mention this market, they often talk about Blockchain and Bitcoin technology. I personally still choose this coin as a long-term investment because it brings good returns to investors and there is always a huge price increase on special events. Of course this investment is still very risky if you are not well prepared.
