Title: Altcoiners, don't give up yet. Bitcoin can't do it alone.
Post by: CryptopreneurBrainboss on September 25, 2019, 09:51:59 AM
The altcoin industry have lost some big percentage of patronizers due to the poor performance of the market in the recent months, this have cause so many enthusiasts to lose interest in altcoins in general thinking the cryptocurrency industry can do without them. There's no denied the industry can do without most of the present altcoins but cryptocurrency can't survive without altcoins been present in general. No disrespect to Bitcoin as it started the journey but the industry have grown beyond just bitcoin.

The achievement and development ethereum as a blockchain has contributed for the industry, if the industry had just bitcoin it wouldn't had recorded such developments. We can't do without altcoins, they have become a part of the industry. The sooner we realized that, the better the industry becomes. Don't misunderstand this post, I'm not advising against investing in bitcoin or encouraging investing in the present altcoins although, all I'm trying to say is, if you think the altcoin industry is going into exile, think again.

The altcoin industry is only going through a phase which won't kill it and as what doesn't kill you only make you stronger, the altcoin market will come out stronger as the good will be separated from the bad projects although bitcoin will always be a household name. Invests wisely and don't forget the best of the best altcoins are yet to be developed, the current ones I consider them to just be, test dummies, preparing the way for future altcoins.

What's your take on this, do you think the industry can survive without altcoins, that's just bitcoin been the only currency in the industry.

I think cryptocurrency will not survive without altcoins. As what I understood, Bitcoin is drawing it's strength from altcoins due to competition on cryptocurrency. For as long as altcoin exist even some or even most of them are not trusted by the public crypto industry will survive.

Its been long since i have come to understand that bitcoin can't survive for long without altcoins, would have been a different case if bitcoin was created to be the mother of all chains, like been able to run other coins on bitcoin itself but without new altcoins there is no way for crypto to reach (its hoped) for milestone

The value of coins is based on manipulation. That's why, for example, ETH can drop it's value 20% in 2 hours. WTH happened to see this? Did the technology failed??? the system was hacked or crashed??? Did ETH network get destroyed? What happened?? Well, what happened was that big whales and sharks wanted their profit.

Now, Would you invest 100€ on a bussiness that moves 1000€??? Yes, right?? Would you invest 100€ on a coin that you don't know how much money it wins with smart contracts??? Hell NO!!!.

What would happen if ETH devs said: Well, our Cap is 18 Billions right now, but our bussiness makes 30 billion. Well....lets invest!!!

But....which is the reason why ETH devs, and all the other coin's devs don't ever share the amount of profit their blockchain generates??? Obviosly, because that amount is ridiculously low.

Would you invest on a coin like ETH with a Cap of 18 Billion, with a 24h transaction number of around 13 Billion in value??? I´ll tell you the other way. Would you invest on a bussiness that moves 60% of the total value up or down in 24 hours?? HELL NO.

So....no do whatever you want. As this bear market consolidates, more and more investors leave. 95% of them, according to statistics lose money in this game. 95%!!!!!!!!

Deal with it. This market is doomed, and will not help any one with this.

As one in the past had said: The more the merrier! Altcoins are actually presenting the marketplace and the people many options or choices and at the end of the day which will eventually survive and flourish will depend on which got a good share of the actions. Of course, there are so many bad altcoins but then this is better than not having anything to choose from. As to the question if Bitcoin can survive without altcoins, in my opinion YES but it can be so lonely at the top.

With the way i am seeing things now i belief that in the future bitcoin will run out of breath because of its decentralized based tech, regulations will have power over only centralized projects so all the centralized coins i know about are altcoins,i think altcoins have a better chance of surviving the future

I'm not trying to bash Bitcoin, but guys we can can all see it' killing the rest of the crypto market. Not that we need to dump Bitcoin, but the fact remains that its' like crypto = only Bitcoin.

I said that more than once in many telegram groups & they probably called me " naif & stupid ".
Let's face it, everything evolves around Bitcoin, even legalization is about Bitcoin not crypto in general.

I can see shit load of great alts & cryptos that solves real life problem better than Bitcoin but they are doomed to failure just because the majority of the market is all about Mr. Bitcoin, most traders wanna trade only Mr. Bitcoin.

I'ma always in favor to see BTC dominance around 20% - 25% at most of the crypto, that way you'll differently notice how important other projects that solve real life problems are & how they solid enough.

What killed this market is that the majority of the money is in Bitcoin, yes it' the king, but if we wanna see a more healthy, stable investment atmosphere in crypto, BTC dominance should be taken down to 20 - 25% like i said so you start notice the rest of the cryptos.

I hope that the trend of altcoins will raise now. After such BTC fall, altcoins should slowly begin to increase their positions on the market. More than 1,5 year has passed science the last bull trend for altcoins, it is slowly time to repeat the cycle.

If bitcoin is the only crypto currency then surely it will never become usable in reality and also can't be imagined by any middle class human being so that altcoins presence is must for the bitcoin's future. But the only issue is scam projects who keep coming with new names everyday to steal money from the investors.

Investors need to educate themselves to get this issues done or else the scammers will stay here with the shit coin projects.

Many altcoins are really helpful for the blockchain ecosystem, but I still think that most of them are still overvalued, they simply can´t have such value for their built infrastructure. Compare Bitcoin and Ethereum adoption.  :)

Both Bitcoin and Altcoin have their own market. Even though some shit coins are present in altcoin, there are some efficient coins like Eth, Ripple, Neo, Monero. So altcoin had their own percentage of supporters, traders and investors. Even though the price of altcoin is decided on the base of bitcoin fluctuations, altcoin like Ethereum was sustained as long as bitcoin from his origin.

Without altcoins, bitcoin is dead too. I don't believe that altcoins are going to disappear. Some are surely disappearing, but not all of them. If people persist to only put money into bitcoin, everything is going to fall little by little, as blockchain companies are going to go bankrupt. And without any blockchain companies, bitcoin is going to die too.

Altcoin is definitely needed for the development of crypto, this is very clear and indeed must be recognized. bitcoin cannot move on its own without mutual support between them. very convincing that altcoin will grow better in the future.

Bitcoin will definitely not die without altcoins, but I think that no one in this market, specifically large players(whales), will not allow the altcoins to die because now it is their main source of income

This year was a really bad year for the Crypto market especially for altcoins.  It seems that very few altcoins survived the storm when BTC dropped dramatically by $ 2k.  BTC has mastered the market, and altcoin seems to have no chance to return, it's a pity unless there is a trend.

i disagree.
i believe the main reason why everyone (apart from newbies who only care for money making) have given up on the altcoins has nothing to do with their price and its decline. but it is all about lack of any half decent project with any kind of innovation for a very long time. all we keep seeing is copies that are repeating the same exact thing under a different name.

i personally have been very enthusiastic about "Alternative CryptoCurrencies" but the more projects i checked out the more disappointed i got which is why i have given up on seeing anything good and my purpose in altcoin market is only to increase my bitcoin wealth by using them as tools for bitcoin-profit.

Bitcoin and altcoin is a motor for the cryptocurrency even if in the cryptocurrency, many bad coins that will scam many people. But out of that, the cryptocurrency needs bitcoin and altcoin to increase, and both bitcoin and altcoin will still exist for a long time, no matter we like it or not. There will be many new people who want to join in the cryptocurrency as we know the trend will always change, the people will always change, but the money will still exist in the cryptocurrency.

We need both altcoins and bitcoin to make the crypto market. Currently, due to the large market capitalization of BTC, the price of Altcoins still depends too much on BTC, causing the price of Altcoins to be highly volatile whenever BTC price fluctuates. In the future, when the inflows come to Alts, the Alt market will no longer depend on BTC as at present.

As far as I am concerned, we really only need around 2-3 cryptocurrencies of the following five types;

1. Pure cryptocurrencies, e.g. Bitcoin, Litecoin and BCH
2. Stablecoins, e.g. Tether, Circle and Libra
3. Smart contract coins, e.g. ETH, TRON and EOS
4. Privacy coins, e.g. Monero, BTCP and ZEC
5. Corporate liquidity tokens, e.g. Ripple and Stellar.

Overall, that means there should be around 15 cryptocurrencies. Can anybody convince me otherwise?

this is actually just a matter of demand from the market. when the market is still showing the demand for altcoin then they will survive, as well as bitcoin. the principle of their market that is sought after and desired by the market will surely get more attention from the public.
altcoin conditions will not continue like this, altcoin season will occur. it's just a matter of time that hasn't come yet. be patient and keep waiting with attention to market movements.

Its think that altcoins need to depend on their own and not on bitcoin anymore also this is the best way to make altcoins as good as bitcoin is today, im sure we will get there slowly but surely, as a matter of fact altcoins demand are still low compare to that of bitcoin

There is no doubt in my mind that altcoins are necessary for the development of this market, bitcoin has to be a coin in which its development has to be slow because there are now billions of dollars invested in it and I have no doubt that in the future we will be talking about trillions of dollars, so the developers cannot risk to make a mistake that could cripple the confidence that investors have in it.

But altcoins do not really have that problem, they can try all kind of new solutions and models and see if they work, the problem is that many altcoins are not really trying to do that, the developers behind those coins are only trying to get money and become rich without bringing anything to the community and those are the type of coins that we don't need.

And those are the type of project the bear market is out to eliminate, many investors don't see the good side of bear market, not only does it offer an opportunity to buy your fav projects tokens or coins at discount rate but it also offer the market an opportunity to eliminate worthless project just disguising themselves as profitable project under the bull market hype. When it comes to bear market, quality project utilize that period to engage in developing their project the more since there isn't much pressure from investors in regards to price value increase since everyone is aware of the market conditions.

But since worthless project has nothing to develop, their project dies off in the bear market leaving just the surviving projects to benefit from the bull market that follows.

It's true that altcoins have contributed a lot to crypto space, although there are more of invalid altcoins than valid ones. I really think in future just very few altcoins will survive, those with real world use cases. Bitcoin alone can't do it alone, although 70% of my portfolio remains in BTC. I'm looking forward to seeing altcoins with zero fees, which solve scalability issues, extremely high TPS and other features backed by a valid project with real world use case which will be adopted mainstream.

After bitcoin, a lot of other cryptocurrencies appeared, which are commonly called altcoins. The bulk of altcoins are tokens, which have very diverse narrow functions in various areas of human activity. It is unlikely that anyone can stop this process. Bitcoin gave impetus to the development of cryptocurrency. Altcoins are already stronger and are able to develop further with or without bitcoin. Therefore, altcoins will constantly appear and the worst of them disappear. According to probability theory, many of the altcoins will bypass Bitcoin in its development. It is difficult to say what will happen next, since the cryptocurrency is far from perfect and is developing rapidly.

Totally not, ETH is leading by example and is so focused on platform development which is ETH 2.0 comparing it with BTC which has been stagnant for so many years but is still the King. There are alts in the market that are aiming to help mass adoption to get cryptocurrency/blockchain in a better place. Korea's biggest wholesale (https://www.coincurb.com/news/apm-coin-rewards-and-payment-platform/?utm_source=lx) will already be utilizing blockchain to level-up their payment system and is better as it provides transparency. But at the same time, we can't blame people to give up on alts because of how many scam projects that participated since 2017.

The community just have to be patient in terms of the project's progress and at the same time, the projects who are well funded should do their part in maintaining a good reputation and delivering their promises.

Yes, I agree with you that bitcoin cannot do it alone, and it is because bitcoin felt fiat cannot do it alone, that it came as an alternative to the fiat system, and this is how altcoins are also supposed to be an alternative, we can see how both fiat and bitcoin are functioning together to give a better financial transactions, but altcoins have failed us all in their own part.

We understand that we need some alternatives to bitcoin, but not in such a way that every project wants to establish a coin. if we need altcoins to assist bitcoin in its vision, I must confess to you that we really don't need more than 10 altcoins, same as we don’t even need more than 10 exchanges in the market, but you see majority of shitcoins and shit exchanges flooding the market because they are all after the money and not the help they want to render to bitcoin, so tell me why people would not give up on altcoins?

I would be concentrating on your exchange example but before than, lets take a look at the current fiat currency used around the world. Are they limited nope, all independent nation have theirs some even shared similar names like Canadian dollars and US dollars. Point I'm trying to make is, the cryptocurrency market is a free market and from my recent understanding of importance of the free market (in this past few days), it does contributes much more to the development of an industry. The more altcoins we have the more competition the industry will produce as a result benefiting the market in general.

As for your statement of the industry needing fewer exchange, I don't support that as it does no good to the development of the industry. Power will become centralized to very few exchange which will then dictate the affair of the industry (which we're already experiencing). Onces again the power of free market comes into play. We need as many exchange as possible to decentralized the distribution of power within the exchange industry.

The percentage of shit projects is undeniable being higher than those who have good usage to work together with bitcoin, developers who envisions the realizations of their created projects and not stopping after listing inside the exchange. Those teams who have a broader knowledge with how the system works and how it will be usable to work along with bitcoin. There are projects that can move forward without relying with bitcoin, it's the product that being offered makes the project to continue and survive then achieved its goal inside this industry.

Exactly what many disagreed with that, Bitcoin can't live alone without the presence of altcoins, altcoins are the taxis on the high way of Bitcoin and will ride along with Bitcoin. Most investor are disappointed in some improper projects which they were scammed and stick to Bitcoin that they have known. My reason to come back into altcoins domain in 2019 was my investment in altcoins late 2018 MB8, this investment gave me hope for the future of altcoins. Bitcoin cannot do this alone, and must go along with altcoins, so, don't give up on altcoins.

You're right, feels like the market capitalization move opposite to bitcoin dominance Irrespective of bitcoin gaining some price value. When the dominance is high, total market capitalization of the industry reduces. That simply means Investors are taking money out of the market which proven my point once again that the industry can't survive without altcoins. Not just because of the utilities they contribute to the industry but also because of the wealth (inflow of money) they bring into the industry.

But seeing the market situation where only bitcoin is taking off, I am forced to believe that altcoin season will never come. It may be my illusion I wish.
l would really like to point out, by and large, l can not imagine altcoins without BTC or BTC without altcoins. It is a something chain reaction, in the crypto industry, there are two parts, BTC and altcoins. But l don't agree with your speculation and we must believe it that, altcoin season will come, it is my candid advice. It is not an illusion, it is highly likely that it will happen. Don't worry about it, a bit more patient. It seems it will take heaps of time.

I was just going through the comments again then realized I haven't replied to this post.

In my opinion, BTC maximalists are just hawking their viewpoints because either they have a weird notion of how the marketplace works or are just looking for a short term gain. To them, BTC is all that is needed, and every other coin is a 'shitcoin'.

Which is a totally weird way to look at it. I agree, BTC probably wouldn't survive without altcoins, at least not as we know it currently. Where would volume come from? Where would crypto innovation? Or real world use (which admittedly even alts haven't done much of yet, but they tend to serve different functions than BTC)? Or hype?

BTC is compared to digital gold, and that probably will be its eventual function. But has anyone here looked at gold as an actual investment?  It doesn't tend to do the crazy parabolic hike thing, nor is there much hype outside of survivalists and late night infomercials over gold. So it's not exactly a world changing thing if btc becomes 'digital gold'. Yes, it serves a purpose, but it's not something folks will get overly hyped about.

And as a currency BTC is kind  of like using the worst debit card ever devised by man. Tons of alts would make better currencies than BTC.

So to those who feel BTCs should be king and that's it, alts not needed, I think either they are deluded or are looking for a short term spike and exit strategy.

The altcoin industry have lost some big percentage of patronizers due to the poor performance of the market in the recent months, this have cause so many enthusiasts to lose interest in altcoins in general thinking the cryptocurrency industry can do with them. There's no denied the industry can do without most of the present altcoins but cryptocurrency can't can't survive without altcoins been present in general. No disrespect to Bitcoin as it started the journey but the industry have grown beyond bitcoin.

The achievement and development ethereum as a blockchain has contributed for the industry, if the industry had just bitcoin it wouldn't had recorded such developments. We can't do without altcoins, they have become a part of the industry. The sooner we realized that  the better the industry become.

Invests wisely and don't forget the best of the best altcoins are yet to be developed, the current ones I consider them to be just test dummies, preparing the way for future altcoins.

What's your take on this, do you think the industry can survive without altcoins that's just bitcoin been the only currency in the space.
yeah i agree with your point. I believe that the altcoins market will thrive in the future. Because the projects behind those altcoins are very potential. Those projects will be very useful in the future. So, I think altcoins will thrive and become indispensable for the crypto market in the future

As far as I am concerned, we really only need around 2-3 cryptocurrencies of the following five types;

1. Pure cryptocurrencies, e.g. Bitcoin, Litecoin and BCH
2. Stablecoins, e.g. Tether, Circle and Libra
3. Smart contract coins, e.g. ETH, TRON and EOS
4. Privacy coins, e.g. Monero, BTCP and ZEC
5. Corporate liquidity tokens, e.g. Ripple and Stellar.

Overall, that means there should be around 15 cryptocurrencies. Can anybody convince me otherwise?

Competition brings out the best on every participants, I am into giving every developer a chance to showcase what they got to overcome other competitors. More options, more choices and possible development will be available. At the end of the day, it is the investors and supporters who will decide what is best for them.  Though I am not trying to convince  you, it is just my POV.

Altcoin had been one of the pillars that supports the Bitcoin market.  Most of its campaigns leads to the advertisement of Bitcoin since most of altcoins are paired with BTC on the market.  Imagine a cryptocurrency with just Bitcoin in it?  Investors often looks for variation to take advantage of the trading system.  Though some is ok with fiat currency to BTC trades but we all know many of the community that get involved in cryptocurrency prefers cryptocurrency trades to escape financial institution's grasp.

We need both altcoins and bitcoin to make the crypto market. Currently, due to the large market capitalization of BTC, the price of Altcoins still depends too much on BTC, causing the price of Altcoins to be highly volatile whenever BTC price fluctuates. In the future, when the inflows come to Alts, the Alt market will no longer depend on BTC as at present.
this is actually just a matter of demand from the market. when the market is still showing the demand for altcoin then they will survive, as well as bitcoin. the principle of their market that is sought after and desired by the market will surely get more attention from the public.
altcoin conditions will not continue like this, altcoin season will occur. it's just a matter of time that hasn't come yet. be patient and keep waiting with attention to market movements.

It's truly a matter of market demand. If there's a continuous need for altcoins, they will remain prevalent but I am not sure most of these cryptos will be around for long so I will be looking forward to seeing major altcoins offering smart contract services, privacy and stable coins becoming the foundation of contemporary crypto market

I think that in the future it will be so. we will not need altcoins in 10-15-20 years, but now the market is not  ready yet to leave the only bitcoin. everything that happens with prices is just a classic market manipulation
Altcoins innovation was a very impressive one, the cryptocurrency technology that is open wide area of acceptability on different platforms. We have seen used case at different aspect of life that bitcoin cant. Bitcoin success is beyond any governance but they have largest numbers of maxilmalists with huge fund to push it around. Scam also cause the loss of confidence in altcoins, while most teams involved in scam are on the run

I give more credence to altcoins that grow organically and not pump and dump altcoins. Such pumps and duo's quickly dies and those are the bad eggs among others. If the best will be lunched, it means it must also grow organically.
The question the is, are we really ready for this?
A lot of investors prefer the pump and dump, which is why we will not stop seeing shit coins and they will continue to lunch.

Bitcoin isn't only digital currency in cryptocurrency world. As old and exoteric coin, Bitcoin is the most valuable coin in cryptocurrency. From this list coin of Coinmarketcap, only some coin will survive then this coin profits is more than any top coin. Because of rumors don't give up your favorite coin.

well, maybe you are right about all your words in bitcoin
but remember altcoin help bitcoin to grow higher from the past,
because when somebody created an altcoin, they will mentioned bitcoin as the first decentralized cryptocurrency mate

Altcoin actually sucks the value out of Bitcoin, but it happened because of so many things, e.g., trilemma, low utility, speculative mentality, fees, etc.

Regarding your question about "do you think the industry can survive without altcoins." Nope, the cryptocurrency industry is based on what? Trading (P&D) in exchanges and gambling. How many traders deposit/withdraw their fund in BTC? I think not many. The retail one (like us lol) would prefer altcoins (like XLM) for cheaper and faster transaction.

I agree that not all altcoins are bad. Altcoin's performance which has plummeted at this time could have been because investors prefer bitcoin as a safe haven due to uncertain global economic conditions. Investors might not be dependent solely on bitcoin because investors would think it is too risky to only hold one portfolio.

I really liked this thread @OP, I think this is genuine concern. Altcoins are truely the backbone of crypto industry. You can't expect everything from Bitcoin. It is first cryptocurrency but surely not the best one in terms of specification. Other cryptocurrencies like ETH, Tron, LISK, EOS provide comparatively much better blockchain to create DApps. And we surely don't want new altcoins stop coming. This market is still new and there is much more scope of improvement.

And for the altcoin investors I think this is the time that all of you waiting for because based from history when bitcoin will fall this is the right time for altcoin so have more patience.

Very difficult to put it any better than this. We can expand this list a bit and add another 5 categories to take the total number of categories to 10. 3 cryptos per category would mean a total of 30 different coins. And right now we have more than 10,000. IMO, sooner or later, we'll be witnessing a major consolidation in the altcoin market and many of the smaller coins are going to vanish.

Bitcoin and Altcoin are helping each other and we can't deny that because of the altcoins the name of Bitcoin breaks. Because of that, many in different parts of the world or countries are well aware of bitcoin and the countless lives of the Bitcoin and altcoin industries have changed countless times and this is the truth most of them know.

Altcoin is definitely needed for the development of crypto, this is very clear and indeed must be recognized. bitcoin cannot move on its own without mutual support between them. very convincing that altcoin will grow better in the future.

Bitcoin and altcoin are two indispensable sides in the cryptocurrency market. Altcoin addresses the limitations of bitcoin, without altcoin we would not have the electronic market today.

I think Cryptocurrency will not live without altcoins. Cryptocurrency can be as famous as now because of the large number of altcoins that have sprung up.

At this time altcoin is down sharply but that does not mean altcoin will die. Altcoin will still survive because until now altcoin is still in demand and favor. There are still many altcoins that have good prospects.

I think it is a good time for us to buy potential altcoins so if it's time for the altcoin season to arrive we get profit.

Thinking about cryptocurrencies and thinking only about BTC is wrong in several aspects... this is a world that started small with BTC paving the road, but it has grown far beyond that and the alts became an integral part of it...
Although there are alts that seem to compete with BTC in terms of use case, there are a lot of alts that are used for different purposes than BTC...
The alt market has boomed in shitcoins, P&D schemes, and copies over copies of the same projects.... so, it is necessary that a whole lot of these alts dissapear so that the market can regain it's strenght

Cryptocurrency portfolio? Seriously in 2019 you still believe in such thing? Altcoin got REKT because simply the majority of it doesn't have value in the first place.

I could not agree more than this, pretty simple yet it is hard to understand by most people.
the reason why Altcoin exists is due to Bitcoin, not the other hand.
Altcoin is created to be a subsidiary of Bitcoin itself, even if altcoin is gone. It will not affect Bitcoin that much, even it probably helps Bitcoin to reach its new ATH or a new goal.
we have a lot of altcoins right now, and almost all of them are nothing but copy-paste project without any benefit to the community or Bitcoin.

With regards to your last statement, I guess that bitcoin cannot survive alone if there could be no altcoin. I mean, since alts were created, bitcoin and alts are meant to live at the same system and IT IS STILL GROWING! Another one is they are creating competition. Alts are creating competition. There are some alts that are focusing in card payments, some are exchanges coins and many more.

Considering the value of Bitcoin for most of small holders is really expensive. The speculative market lift it up and gained this value. Investment wise, you need to have a huge amount of money to enjoy higher profits. While like what you've said, Alts offered much lower investment capital if you are able to find the right project and the timing of your entry  is perfect, the outcome is really beneficial.

With good judgement and trust with the project that you support, everything will turn out good for long-term success.

To me this is not about old altcoins versus new altcoins, this is about whether or not a coin brings something of value to the community, if a coin is a copy of other projects or it is just a derivative project without any merit then that coin is going to fail regardless of how much time it has been on the market, the coins that will survive the current market conditions are those that have active developers that are actually trying to do something new in the market.

Even if the coin is not as good as the developers thought it would be at least that will give us an answer to the question of how we can improve the market of cryptocurrencies, it will tell to us that is not the way and that is as important as knowing which is the correct way to implement a cryptocurrency.

How many altcoins do you see in coinmarketcap ? Only around 2900. Now consider if every business / project has its own coin, there are still very less altcoins available in the world right now.
In real life, we see many people doing the same business, so why can't two different coins be working on the same project prototype ?

Bitcoin can survive without altcoin and altcoin can not survive without Bitcoin. But altcoin will not disappear and never, that is for sure. Altcoin will not disappear because people will always try to find something after they get one. just like what a Wiseman ever said, if you get one mountain full of gold. You will not satisfy and you will try to find another mountain.
and the rise of Bitcoin is not because of the altcoin. Instead, it's happening because people started to realize the importance of technology.

My understanding is that bitcoin develops with the existence of altcoin, every altcoin rises always has competition or competition in cryptocurrency, but there are some of altcoins who no longer gain trust because they do not have vision and mission so they cannot survive, I think that altcoin has a great relation to building the price of bitcoin
You have the right understanding, BTC definitely develops with the existence of altcoins. More than that altcoins depend on BTC but  BTC doesn't depend on altcoins, it is a chain reaction. l would say altcoins is the thing that makes more meaning in the entire crypto space. As you mentioned every altcoin has not the same progress, some of them can not survive, all of them don't have the same vision and same advantage for the crypto investors.

For me even some users don't like altcoins still they have different worth like they are also useful and helpful here in crypto world

Then if you base in the past i think altcoins now run for so long period of time so that's trusted already and we know a lot really have development then still continue another thing i think in future they much useful and helpful than Bitcoin now then actually we already experience this because they brings so much convebience now

of course that means when the project is truly consistent to continue to build better then it is a struggle and effort that will definitely be appreciated for the users themselves. so even though this is an alternative coin, the project behind it is proof that this coin will be more useful for many elements

Bitcoin is what it is now thanks to altcoins, a lot, lot of people join to crypto thanks to altcoins like Doge, and that since years ago.

Just imagine a nocoiner trying to send bitcoin to a wrong address, or made a mistake writing the amount to send like a fee instead.

A nocoiner trying to upgrade his bitcoin wallet without backup up his wallet dat file.

Nocoiners need altcoins to learn about crypto and how to send transactions without fear, altcoins are necessary to practice.

Also the point on just telling a nocoiner to invest +8,000 usd to buy only 1 bitcoin, nobody likes to have .01 or .001, 8k usd is a lot of money for most people around the world

Global population distribution by income
15% are totally Poor
56% survive with Low income
13% are Middle class
9%  Upper-middle class
7%  Highest income

Forget about Poor and Low income people, the income for middle class is around 50-60k usd per year, we really think they can spend 8k usd to buy a single bitcoin

Thats leave only 15% of world people able to invest in 1 bitcoin.

But thanks to altcoins around 29% of world can afford to buy 1 ethereum or 1 litecoin

Thanks to alcoins 85% of world can afford to buy 1 Ripple or 1 Doge

Altcoins are necessary for Bitcoin to survive.

Invests wisely and don't forget the best of the best altcoins are yet to be developed, the current ones I consider them to be just test dummies, preparing the way for future altcoins.

What's your take on this, do you think the industry can survive without altcoins that's just bitcoin been the only currency in the space.

yes, you really right that the market will not be able to develop only thanks to bitcoin, and of those coins that are now on the market, only a few will remain , this market still needs time for development

I agree that Bitcoin cannot do alone, however its sharp moves make alts dead nowadays. When I see an increase in BTC, I just stop trading because it makes alts collaps, when I see a decrease in BTC, it still makes alts collapse. It needs to be a bit less volatile and go sideways. If alts do not survive, this crypto market makes no sense to us.

- Although we all know that this market will not be perfect without altcoin, even know that bitcoin will go before then altcoin will follow but the collapse of altcoin really makes us unable to control emotions because every time it collapses, the price goes down too deep, it's not just a decline with only a few percent of the value, it drops to almost half the value, even more. And waiting for the price to return is a long journey for all altcoin holders, and very few can succeed, giving up in the middle of the road is very frequent, patience is not possible when bitcoin shows up

The major problem here is bitcoin market dominance is at around 67% while the entire altcoins have 33% of the cryptocurrency market capitalization. that shows Bitcoin is on the bull run while altcoins are on the bear market. So the best thing to do is move to bitcoin where people are making profits.

it will change very soon. bitcoin dominance is very slow but getting smaller, so altcoins will soon take their part of the market

Actually, there is a chance Bitcoin dominance rate will reach 90%+ and the most altcoins capitalizations will drop significantly, but it is rather unlikely scenario, so if you believe in altcoins from your portfolio, it is okay to hold them.

Still many readers aren't getting the point of this thread, I'm not just suggesting you go hodl some shitproject wanna be next bitcoin all in the name I said altcoins will always be part of the cryptocommunity. The current altcoins aren't capably of withstanding the future projects that'll be developed so think twice before investing your funds on some random projects out there.

Always long bitcoin but instead of totally shorting altcoins general, trade them. Use them to accumulate more bitcoin

No doubt, Bitcoin's dominance is one we cannot begin to argue about, but I believe that even with all that power, Bitcoin cannot do it on its own. Altcoins are here to stay, and they have a huge part that they play in the market, and also in the advancement of the industry. So there isn't really any need for altcoiners to begin living in doubt or thinking that the time to give up on altcoins is now.

Good work, but can you provide a source of your information?
Yeah, the alts are great for beginners as a training feature, but the main goal for which new coins are created is to interest investors with an attractive idea and possible rapid growth after IEO or ICO. 2018 and 2019 showed how crypto developers can punish gullible investors for substantial amounts.
In fact no difference whether you buy 0.1 $ BTC or 20 LTC for your $1000, this is all just a psychological factor. But the risk of extinction of any altcoin is quite high.

But in view of this, individuals become smarter, unless of course they have the ability to develop. In general, yes, the market is becoming more complex, in view of all that is happening on it. Thanks to all the good and especially the bad. I think the market can completely die out only if the development of new ideas stops, which I can’t imagine.

Well there is surely the tendency of having the altcoin market increasing in the future but only sold projects with working products would rise after this fall. Hence the reason why you have to do a good research about the projects you are investing into so as to not lose your funds. Most of the ICOs that were launched have failed and team members have abandoned their projects.

Some altcoins are still have a uses and be a help in crypto industry. Some altcoin's platform is very potential aiding the problems like ethereum's platform. If you are asking if we can still survive even without bitcoin? Yes, of course. It's just that we need some altcoins that can provide some lack characteristics of bitcoin, we need alternative coin aside from bitcoin which has high speed in transactions with lesser fees.

I agree, only Altcoin which already has a large product and liquidity will be able to survive against the dominance of bitcoin. I agree that bitcoin dominance will not last long and altcoin will be able to rise but in my opinion not all altcoins will be able to last for the long term, only altcoin with a solid developer team will continue to survive

To be sure, my opinion cannot be used as a guide, but I see without altcoin, maybe bitcoin will not work as well as this. The altcoin industry with the price condition that many people complain about is currently very large influence exerted on Bitcoin. That is, the two things need each other.

yes I agree with you, as we see that bitcoin is one of the coins that has an important role in this industry, the ups and downs of bitcoin can also affect the price of altcoin and vice versa. so I think the crypto space is still wide open for bitcoin or altcoin to return to the price as before, it's just that the current market situation still dominates the bitcoin market but that doesn't mean altcoin will lose its value onwards. exactly the altcoin holder is being tested, and in my opinion for altcoin that has good growth, that is one of them that will survive in this market.

Both bitcoin and altcoin need to support each other so it could change the market to recover the price. When one of bitcoin and altcoin cannot moves, then we will not see a bull run comes. I am sure that bitcoin and altcoin will rise at the right time, although that means, many altcoins cannot follow to increase because of the lack of support in their project. There are still many good altcoins that will support bitcoin and bitcoin do the same. By the way, I like the title, and it shows support for bitcoin and altcoin.

This is exactly my take when the issue of bitcoin vs altcoins is being brought up. Imagine how the market will look like without altcoins. There won't be innovative projects coming up, no diversity of portfolio and the entire crypto industry will be in the hands of the few. Let's not forget that altcoin is another entry point to the crypto industry by which many adopters who could afford BTC at the onset came in. Bitcoin and altcoins needs each, but with only solid and excellent altcoins can we move forward.

In the market, there must be various coins. If the market only there is Bitcoin I think it will not run. Bitcoin needs an Altcoin because if there is no competition, the market conditions that I think will be empty.

Altcoins are much needed as there are many people who are interested in trading. Although more altcoins certainly these investors experience splits. But like the real world a market should provide a wide variety of goods and crypto markets there is a wide variety of digital assets. Altcoin will continue to grow and have a good future.

I don't consider altcoins to be a competitor of bitcoin as I haven't seen even one project that could out perform bitcoin both in adoption and trading. Ethereum showed some positive signals but when it comes to trading and gobal adoption, bitcoin still outperformed ethereum although in utility, ethereum is the no1 blockchain. Libra could out perform bitcoin as no1 most trading coin just as Tether is trying to achieve but that's a story for another day.

The altcoins market should compliment that of bitcoin instead of been competitors  that's why I'm emphazing both coins are needed for a faster and profitable growth of the cryptocurrency industry. Altcoins providers utility while bitcoin provides global adoption of the technology.

why is this an unlikely scenario? I think now is not the best time to hold altcoins, many will still update their bottom and only after that some coins will go up and some will disappear.

Altcoins will not disappear, it’s a fact, because you by yourself can see how many top altcoins work with big companies that need altcoin technologies such as ethereum, ripple and it is worth noting that there are a lot of such companies and there are more and more such companies constantly, so the top altcoins will have a good future, but the new altcoins that appear every day in the cryptocurrency sphere will experience enormous difficulties and many of them will disappear after some time,
To me this is not about old altcoins versus new altcoins, this is about whether or not a coin brings something of value to the community, if a coin is a copy of other projects or it is just a derivative project without any merit then that coin is going to fail regardless of how much time it has been on the market, the coins that will survive the current market conditions are those that have active developers that are actually trying to do something new in the market.

There are other sites and in some of them I can see almost 6000 coins, and those are the coins that are active right now, how many coins have been created through the first 10 years in which this market has existed? I would guess that number is very easily above 10k, and how many of those coins were any good? It is impossible to know but at best a few hundred.

I am not against having several coins performing the same function but when you see many coins trying to do the same and their approach is no different from each other then what is the point? Most coins are copies of the top coins in the market and are trying to sell the idea that somehow they are better when they are only disguising the fact that the developers behind those coins could not figure out how to create a better coin.

Altcoins are our future and our profit-makers in fact. It is obvious that BTC moves are effective in prices of alts but alts give us the most profit by moving up and down. When they are so volatile, we can get good amounts of money. We just have to follow the market closely and pick the best time to enter and sell that asses.

bitcoin dominance increasing doesn't necessarily mean that the capitalizations of these altcoins will drop significantly. If BTC capitalization is peaking and the price is rising so high the dominance will automatically adjust and increase meanwhile the altcoins will stay the same if not is affected by the bullish aswell.
The scenario itself is not highly unlikely, kinda hard to happen in the real life but there's still plenty of chances. If BTC could build up the hype like it was back then it could possible the dominance of BTC to increase until 90%.
However, the most possible scenario is if the altcoins losing the capitalization as you said therefore automatically making bitcoin dominance even higher.

Bitcoin is the cryptocurrency most popular and famous currency and there is also an altcoin who are balancing the threshold of the crypto market. Bitcoin and altcoins are almost the same because they are depending each other.
Altcoins nowadays become more less importance because of having so many shit and trash coins producing by the poor organizational planning of the projects, that's why it is the reason why they are becoming volatile. But don't be afraid to those altcoiners who are still holding those altcoins because the time will come that altcoin will stand up again.

I think that everything will be alright with altcoins. At the beginning of the year, we watched how Bitcoin was pumped. Now there will be a phase when altcoins will be pumped. Therefore, I am now investing in promising new altkits. For example, as in the new YUSRA GLOBAL coin (https://yusra.global) with a POS-mine. Now mining in this YUSRA coin has just started and you can earn up to 30% per month only from POS mining. It seems to me that this is real and promising!

It is not as simple as you make it out to be, just because a bitcoin recovery happened during the last months this does not somehow mean that an altcoins season will follow, the performance of many of the top altcoins has been very weak and when you think about this it makes perfect sense, many investors lost a vast amount of money by investing in altcoins and they do not want to go through this again.

So most of the old and new investors have decided to only invest in bitcoin and while I have no doubts that an altcoins season will eventually come I do not find possible this will take place anytime soon.

CryptopreneurBrainboss, I've seen your posts all around the forum and I respect you and know you're a smart guy.  I also respect the question you're asking, which is a valid one.

I have to disagree with you, however.  Bitcoin could carry on just fine if the entire array of altcoins went to zero tomorrow.  In fact it would be a huge boon to bitcoin if that happened, because all the money tied up in alts would be funneled to bitcoin.  This isn't going to happen of course.

OTOH I do believe there is a need for altcoins and it is a good thing indeed that many of them are attempting to improve upon bitcoin, because that's how things progress.  Altcoin traders are fickle, just like you described, but this is why most of them probably lose money.  They pile in when prices are going up and then lose all interest when prices are decreasing or are flat.  But times like now are when they should be buying.  Altcoins aren't dead at all, and the market has been thru periods like this in the past.  It may take a while, but they'll be on fire again.

Without altcoins in the world of cryptocurrency, it would already be boring. A variety of functions is provided precisely by altcoins. Moreover, tokens provide cryptocurrency narrow practical application. Today, I think that both bitcoin and altcoins could already exist independently.
Altcoins are currently experiencing a very bad period of sharp decline in their price, however, in any case, this is all temporary. For altcoins, the growth time will still be many times.

Altcoins are creating more awareness, for example as big as bitwings project is in colombia today many people are starting to know what crypto is all about because of bitwings from wingsmobile, the fact is bitcoin can't really do it alone

you could say we should be together. but actually between one coin and another that in my opinion there is no definite connection. for example when bitcoin falls then altcoin also falls, that is an upheaval, in my opinion it's wrong. because when we see bitcoin go up, altcoin doesn't necessarily go up. this is only a matter of demand in the market, namely bitcoin as the coin with the highest demand thus affecting everything.

the current market has not gone up overall, but at least it has begun to stabilize. if bitcoin can't do it, altcoin can indeed be the top in the market. when the demand for altcoin increases and then the price goes up, it will be a positive thing in the crypto market, regardless later bitcoin will rise or not because bitcoin or altcoin has its own market cap, not simultaneously.

The scarcity of Bitcoin along with potentially high fees may make it not practical for every day use.  Not only this, but other altcoins have specific utilities that make them better for a particular use. Ethereum for smart contracts or Monero for security, etc.

Is there proof? i can't even say if that was creating a big awareness in colombia. Bitcoin can do it alone and when bitcoin was created and it didn't even need the altcoin to get its value. bitwing is a new altcoin and so many people are still asking about the credibility of the project itself. Just because it was created an awareness doesn't mean if bitwing can be taken as an example of how altcoin helped bitcoin.

Don't give up (bump)
This thread skipped my sight when it was made(by you obviously)but I'll still love to give my honest opinion on it, I don't know if it has already been said, of course this is the sixth page. There were times when diversification was necessary in the network, that was when altcoins were doing very good, as bitcoin lead the way. I bought so many altcoins then for side investments, as my bitcoin is always my priority, so many of those altcoins gave me profits, as I traded, held, and invested them in other areas, but this was all during that good season.

But what about the ones I still hold till now, they are just in my wallet as shitcoins that have no value. I believe altcoins can come back stronger, but for that to happen the industry needs to see less of the creation of ICO tokens, they are so much, and many more are created everyday, this just increases the number of altcoins without developing the ones that are in the market already, so I think altcoins can only improve if there are less/fewer ico tokens, we need just the few good altcoins, so the altcoin holders can focus/concentrate on them and before you know, they would grow and improve gradually.

We are aware that some altcoins has a great future too, although in the future there were majority of the altcoins that will be valued at Zero. Still, I don't give up with altcoins, I know that Bitcoin will not be the kind and most powerful and will be famous just like it has right now without the use and help of altcoins. We don't need to give up in altcoins, we just need to be more careful and let the project which has a real value will remain.

I think the industry can survive it without the cryptocurrency I mean it does when no cryptocurrency was not yet created the industry was still running in away.
The thing is cryptocurrency and bitcoin was already popular in the past year and it created a lot of history, in my opinion, the bitcoin could do it alone without the other token or altcoins in the market I mean it does run in the past years and it is the first created cryptocurrency and i think it will be more valuable if no other token was created. I think a lot of investors are already invested in bitcoin and altcoins so I don't think that this cryptocurrency is going to die soon in the market because they are already popular in the market and some are already getting implemented as digital currency like bitcoin that is already used in other countries.

It is meaningless to say that BTC can't do alone without the altcoins, the altcoins need BTC, Bitcoin doesn't need altcoin to exist. The all crypto major pairs have the ask side which is usually BTC and ETH. The entire crypto market capitalization is dominated by the Bitcoin and without the BTC it will not perform as in the old years.
It is actually true. We should keep on supporting the community because we are the only one who can understand what is the condition and what we must do at a time like this. We should have courage to earn and urge to earn more than before, but before we can do that we should keep supporting even if the market is on a downfall, it is actually a better time for us to support every project, we as a bounty hunter, we must promote more of altcoins for us to have more investors, because the more investors we have the higher possibility that every project will be successful.

I believe that Bitcoin alone will not be able to survive in the crypto market. Altcoins fuel BTC's life and develop blockchain technology. Based on this, we can conclude that altcoins are of great importance for the crypto market as a whole, which means they cannot take and disappear like that. I believe that the crypto market is developing in stages, which means that you need to wait for the next stage of growth and you will see the growth of altcoins.

but as of now, it is still better to wait until we see which altcoin will survive
by doing it we will see which altcoin has a real goal and real supporter.

I can't imagine if there is only one crypto in this industry (bitcoin), but that doesn't mean that bitcoin can survive alone. knowing that altcoin is another investment alternative besides bitcoin, it can be concluded that bitcoin and altcoin have different but complementary functions. such as altcoin which is easily accessible by anyone and also bitcoin is a profitable investment in each period.

Complete agreement. It is altcoins that help bitcoin to survive.I think it would be boring if there would be no choice from cryptocurrencies and there would be no development. With the advent of altcoins, the market is still alive.(Bitcoin hold on.) 8)

I've created Bitflate, a crypto with constant inflation. Inflation discourages HODL. But that doesn't mean the coin will be worthless. Its supply is still limited by inflation. Bitcoin is Store of Value. Bitflate is transaction coin. I think the idea has potential. So far, it's been slow. Not many cares about it. Most people are scared away by "inflation." I think it'll take a long time for crypto to shake off their Austrian economics.

My opinion is completely against you because altcoins need bitcoin in every aspects. Bitcoin is the mother of crypto and like every young children, altcoins need a caring mother to survive. If Bitcoin dies it becomes a common knowledge that the original idea has been in some sense flawed. Once the investors learn that the security of the altcoins like ETH and Litecoin rests upon the same fundamental idea, but with much weaker, less reliable, realization, the fate of every single altcoins out there is simply a death in exactly the same way the Bitcoin died. sooner or later Altcoiners will realize blockchain technology is best suited to one chain to rule all and undoubtedly will migrate to Bitcoin.

Altcoins are causing more frustration for investors because this year more than 90% were wiped out of this market and not attracting new investors is the main reason why these coins can not exist in this market. Currently, there are not many good options for investors so it is best to trust Bitcoin only and should spend all of your assets to invest in this coin.

I don't know when the altcoin season will reappear but it will take a very long time and don't expect too much of this investment.

No Bitcoin can't do it alone, it needs the help of other altcoins. But the only issue is that, most altcoins aren't worth it therefore can't be said that they can actually help. Taking a look at the growing number of altcoins and the percentage that really offers value one won't be mistaken for saying they aren't helping but bringing bad names to this space. But nevertheless, we have the likes of ETH, and I believe with more team like that of ETH etc, altcoins will surly help in piloting this space higher.

Many altcoins will disappear in 6 years and only strong altcoins with real use cases will survive. 10+ years is a long time and the threats of quantum computers will grow year by year, the security of the SHA 256 will be outdated on that day, in my opinion. Best altcoins never stop growing in capitalist, competitive markets and they will adopt to the changes.

Bitcoin need support from investor and looking many companies want to adopt bitcoin as legal currency payment for their currency, will give higher price for bitcoin later if have many companies have adopt and legal using bitcoin as currency payment, so far many investor use bitcoin only investment assets and keep bitcoin for trading only, there are not have available using bitcoin for currency payment.

I think this is partly due to the fact that the prices of most Altcoins still depend too much on the price of BTC, so every time BTC fluctuations affect the entire market. In the future, when all altcoins have trading pairs with stable coins, I think they will not be as much dependent on BTC as they are now.

It is all about knowing the right alts to hold really, even though btc also needs the presence of alts to flourish not all alts are worthy of this mention, some alts are more like a liability to the market than be any good, although alts gives a better chance to increasing profit i.e if you hold the right ones, so this is a point of importance to investors.

Of course all coins other than BItcoin are altcoin if Bitcoin is the only coin in crypto that is used as the main coin, well the case is there are some disadvantaged altcoins due to intense business competition in crypto of course it's still altcoin but how do we choose a good altcoin that we must pay attention to.

Nah altcoin is for other use. Or at least that what it is meant to be. You would need altcoins to act as stocks in your companies and things like that. That's what altcoins are supposed to be about. Not a bunch of silliness. Not sure why people even pay any attention to half these shitcoin. Unfortunately, there sr not so many good examples of other currencies working as well as bitcoin or working as worthwhile having stock options.

Bitcoin has undeniably generally better public image than alternative cryptocurrencies. Yet, it is also the case that not everyone prefer to use btc in all online transactions. Bitcoin is great and useful but we cannot monopolize the market because will make the market more dull than it is now. Altcoins gave more dynamic actions in the market than bitcoin.

in my opinion the cryptocurrency industry will not last long and grow rapidly like now if there is no altcoin. bitcoin is the main coin in the crypto market but bitcoin also needs altcoin to make the crypto market more crowded and has a large trading volume. and with altcoin can be used as a competitor of bitcoin. the presence of competitors will make bitcoin developers continue to try to improve bitcoin technology. if there is no altcoin then I am sure bitcoin will not develop as it is now.
these two years the altcoin market is indeed bad we have to be patient waiting hopefully in the next year the situation of the altcoin market is getting better.

Bitcoin and altcoin are both needed in cryptocurrency, there will be no cryptocurrency if there are no new coins that continue to emerge, other than as competition it also becomes an option for everyone to invest in coins that they think are good and can generate profits. And if there was no altcoin, I think bitcoin might still be there but of course the cryptocurrency market would be boring because there is no choice to buy which coins.
