Title: Correct and polite behaving on the forum.. could lead to nice things THX theymos
Post by: El duderino_ on October 03, 2019, 10:24:50 AM
A small part of my experience on BTC-talk.

My date of registration on this forum = July 14, 2017, 02:41:47 PM, as this is my very first registration on a forum.    (Just to show I'm a late registered member on the forum, and a lot can happen in less that 2 years .... )

As many do know i'm not the most advanced online living person and the most I know from being on a forum, writing posts, having some computer skills (still very poor computer skill) are coming from being on BTC-talk.

But what I do have to say is that from my time being I have read from all kinds of people, I have read the most kind persons, the most polite persons, i have read BTC-related the most helpful and bullish persons, also I have read BTC-related person who are bearish or didn't support BTC (NOcoiners) but still in a polite way, then of-course I have been reading the worst as well from being extremely annoying, spamming, talking nazi sh*t, talking real bad stuff etc... Don't fall in those last groups of members ...

As newer members you can have your opinion on the matter, but please write with common respect as we don't know each other and we are all RL persons just talking to each other.... and don't let the worst of yourself come out :D You can easily insult others and I don't think thats what should happen.

We all have very different reasons of writing here (I think I write a bit of myself in here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5166448.msg51865038#msg51865038), but as I say some come here to try and learn, some to share there knowledge and help others, some for both, some for trying to make some money, some for sports and gamble things, and of course some to spread FUD and spam the place Again please don't be the last mentioned group....

Probably when people start writing in here notice they will start as a newbie and are able to rank up over time (this will require amounts of activity from being active on the forum and require merit, earn those if another member award it towards you, can come from good content or when someone respects your opinion etc).... for many its a goal to become Legendary but keep thinking thats only a rank on the forum, don't let this discourage yourself from writing content and learning from very knowledgeable people on this forum, cause there are plenty of those.... the merit that one can earn and activity will come over time, don't be bothered to much with that (just stay a bit humble and kind towards the other people in here, cause existing members do take this place very serious as this is a great community, so join with respect)

Now besides of my start of being here and besides of learning in here.... I have been writing with some extremely kind and fun people that I respected and got respect from .... From a few years of writing even some friendship was born (Yeah I know online friendship...), but indeed as I remember a member on a topic I write on made a joke/statement like "Mic this are non real persona's" or something "they are nothing like friends...", You will NEVER meet those people!
Of-course I have proven that specific member he is wrong (as he was with a lot of things he approached me with, like I wouldn't pay a prize a awarded etc), but as I was saying I have met with at least 15 people from this forum IRL where I do believe some real friends came out of and who I will keep seeing IRL more as that one meeting I had with them... If people are kind and have a mutual respect for another some nice things can be build on that. I do have a lot of people I know IRL and I didn't need to search for friends etc but from writing long periods also some kind of friendship happened and i'm glad with that.

So I really have to thank Theymos for creating this amazing forum, cause it attracts the people of the BTC community who are amazing people...

(Of-course at all places we will find the rotten F***s as well but don't let them discourage yourself of building your own important things in life)

Besides of myself, I know a lot of other members have meet up IRL as well and I think its amazing, places like this gets BTC'ers together and thats a good thing !!!!

This forum was created by satoshi nakamoto himself!
You can check it here:
Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5.msg28#msg28)

This forum is amazing indeed. And being created by satoshi makes it even more amazing, imo.
Theymos is certainly doing a great job, as this is still the best place to talk about bitcoin, and he is the one responsible for this!

I'm not sure he likes being called "thermos" but is probably used to it.

I registered a long time ago, but never really posted, just lurked all these years. But I figure I should contribute a little bit even if it's every few months or so.

If users (from old-era to new-era with cutoff is when merit system began) keep obeying rules of the forum, and give their hands as small contributions to help to build up the forum as shitpost-cleaned as possible, the head admin and the community will feel much happily to stay here.

It is important for themselves, and for the forum. For themselves in aspect of risks of signature disabled (there is risk to see it happens). For the forum in aspect of preventing users leave and join other forums.

No one can be perfect when they are born or join any forum, but over time they should improve themselves and contribute more.

I try to be polite and respectful in my posts but I can't help it sometimes.

Anyway, congrats on the new rank!
We were only three months apart but look at that gap  ;D

This reminds me that there's so much more to learn and do.

I agree that being Polite in the forum is good. But I saw a Rule which says "insults are allowed in the forum as long as they contain any kind of constructive opinion".

Q: Someone insulted me. Why aren't you deleting his post/thread?
A: Possible (since we don't have the time or resources to check) insults are also allowed as long as they contain any kind of constructive opinion, info or something else substantial and aren't off-topic. For example, posting something like "you are dumb" will be deleted as it contains no meaningful content. However, if the post is somewhere along the lines of "You are dumb. This is wrong because this website/thread/etc. has explained it's not right", it's in most cases accepted.

Does this mean Insulting a user in a constructive way is allowed? Is this correct?

There are some great people on this forum, but there are also a whole bunch of a$$holes. As with anything in this world, you have to chose if you want to associate with the bad or the good. I decided very early on that I would embrace the good and step away from the bad.

Do not get into a confrontation with people, because some people thrive on attention and also in creating drama. Avoid contact with those people, because they will pull you into the mud and you will get dirty too. Concentrate on the positive people with valuable inputs and comments and reward good constructive posting with merit.  ;)

Haha yes seems so, but I just prefer never to be insulting to others, of-course there are a few that really scream for some hard words, but even then, I mostly avoid them when it gets to crazy.... still a lot of people do read what we write and maybe some of young ages etc

A person who only insult other person is not the kind of person to become a role model for this forum and won't do such good things. Sometimes, people are lazy enough to help someone who needs help but instead getting insulted for not doing their research ( have a good point though not all you can search had all the answers which is why asking/looking answers from other person who knows more.

I have a slightly different approach: you'll need to realize it doesn't matter what someone on the internet thinks about you. Once you don't care about someone else's unfriendly opinion, you'll realize your own opinion doesn't matter to them either if you're attacking someone. That's the point you stop caring about their opinion and end flame wars (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flame%20war).

Some users made an art out of being offensive though, see Poetry, by TMAN (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138619.0) for example.

Does this mean Insulting a user in a constructive way is allowed? Is this correct?
Yes. It's allowed. And I love that this isn't Social Justice Warrior Forum where thought control is enforced! I love that people can speak their mind, no matter how unpopular their opinion is.
But it's up to you how you use these freedoms, and your behaviour says a lot about you. You also have the freedom to make yourself look bad by what you post.

Remember: being friendly doesn't cost you anything!

Stunning, Hero Legendary member with 2000 Merits. It seems that you are posting on the wall "isolated world," so many have not noticed your account.
I noticed this when you created two consecutive replies, a behavior that rarely occurs in the rest of boards.
I hope that you explore more boards as this forum contains a lot of sections that make you continue to post.

I'm a week older than you, but is this the first time you know cryptocurrencies?

migoossens is a fellow from WO and the other boards in Speculation, Trading, etc. The game he is reffering to is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5188987.msg52609651#msg52609651 and some others.

You should visit WO sometimes hugeblack, and the Speculation board. It is not a spammy board.

WO thread already helped me a lot, when I was in FOMO, in some hard times when BTC crashed.

@smyslov you’re wrong as this forum has evolved into other topics too, if you don’t believe me visit the politics or gambling section the arguments you witness there are pure drama and at times I spend hours just reading them. When I joined this forum all I was expecting to meet the usual spammy forum posters, but within days I realised this was the ultimate forum and I love spending time here.

A small part of my experience on BTC-talk.

Just have to second the title of your thread as I'm a living witness to it. The problem with most new forum users is, they just don't think about creating a relationship with other users of the forum, they see a thread they are interested in, drop their reply and off they go without returning to that thread to see if someone was interested in what they wrote via replying to their reply to start a conversation. We have to learn how to interact with one other and not just post randomly on the forum.

Create relationship and as you're doing so, be polite (just as OP says). Simultaneous conversation is what lead to relationship buidling, engage in such and you would enjoy the forum. What I love about the forum is, there's no discrimination. The opportunities aren't restricted to some fav type of citizens as everyone has equal opportunity on the forum. Great thread OP.

As per this rule -
Quote
Posting multiple posts in a row is not allowed.
posting in a row is not allowed right? ???

But I can see a legendary member posting like this. As he is a legendary member, I think he would know the rules of the forum.

I believe that OP didn’t  mentioned about Insulting is Prohibited in this forum but what mic says let’s prevent from doing and be polite in any ways for our own goodness and for others as well
Quote

Does this mean Insulting a user in a constructive way is allowed? Is this correct?
Well in this case let’s use our common sense mate if you don’t want to be insulted then don’t do it unto others not unless you meant to love insulting other people then that’s another scenario to discuss.

But I hope we find all peace not unless necessary to do

I used to be a polite, kind and a joyful person in real life but here I can say that I'm a polite and a behave person too although there are times that I say bad things to other people, it is just around 1/100 of my posts :D.

I know that there are respectable people here and I consider them as the good people here (even some don't) and there are some who are against them. I want to be on the good side and want to share my opinions sometimes but still I'm not that fluent in English like most people here.

Anyway, what I am in real life will be the same here. I don't want to be a person who is good right now but after few hours will become bad. I'm not good at technical aspects of crypto like the other members here so what I can contribute here at least is being a polite, kind and a behave user. :D

Indeed creating some kind of relationship, mutual understanding etc is very important as many are using the forum on daily or weekly base.... And when you come across with other users you will meet them more as once especially when writing in the same boards... I think when you are a kind and normal user then everyone will help you out whenever you have a question, of-course when somebody acting like a complete tard then its obvious people treat them that way.

And yes some just throw in random comments and never turn back, thats a bit wrong as well....
