Title: What's next for bitcoin ?
Post by: Wysi on October 04, 2019, 09:06:01 AM
We have been through a rough ride but what's next for bitcoin ? It has survived some brutal sanctions which were implemented by regulators but still manages to flourish (sustain), but don't you think bitcoin can earn more reputation by doing something good for the community like donating for environment cause, could pledge to help Amazon rainforest to recover from the recent disaster which will create more bitcoin sympathizers. Don't you think bitcoin community needs to focus on world affair so that we can be a part of mainstream and recognized by people ?

Well, there are charities that accept BTC, and maybe a handful of other top altcoins. Bitcoin can't donate anything to anyone, but anyone can use Bitcoin to donate to many different charities. The question is if BTC community members are interested in doing so or not. Even so, i don't expect that to help. The exposure comes from the media, and the media doesn't publish 'good' stories. If it doesn't shock — it doesn't attract clicks/views. So, when there is a ransomware where the hacker wants to be paid in BTC, you can bet anything that it will be on the news. But, if a BTC user donates X amount of money in BTC to a charity, nobody cares.

Bitcoin isn't controlled by anyone so a plan to donate would need to be talked about by the community and only those who agree could join the said charity donation. I don't expect the majority to partake in that kind of session though. The community doesn't need to partake in charity to become famous since it's basically just a matter of time. And bitcoin won't be the one featured, it would most likely be the user who donated, or could be labeled as an anonymous donator.

Bitcoin is not controlled by anyone since it's decentralized but when I say bitcoin I am referring to the bitcoin community and it's not individual donations but as a community and it's not just a matter of time but rather how we create impact on lives and betterment of this world. If we can form a community and donate then it will make a difference, yes the identity will be anonymous but still it will be from bitcoin community.

While it might help a bit, I don't think it will do anything significant. Remember the Pineapple Fund of 2017? It was definitely a huge event in the bitcoin community, but it didn't even get that much traction outside our community. I don't think big news sites even made an article about it at all.

Bitcoin will gain traction with time. When people realize the importance of it. Unfortunately, it looks like people in countries with healthy economies wouldn't understand the need of it unless they experienced economic crises themselves.

I am suggesting that there should be an organization connected in some way to Bitcoin and this organization can be acting like a charitable/developmental platform to help address some problems affecting humanity and of course this can be funded by Bitcoin coming from regular donors all over the world. Now, I am not saying it can be like a super-government type of organization but just a normal one but can be able to reach as many people as possible using the money (cryptocurrency) it has on its hands. This can be the best way to enhance the reputation of Bitcoin especially since there are still people who are wrongly associating it with scams and frauds.

As to the question: What can be next for Bitcoin? I think or rather in my humble opinion, the next three months of 2019 will see Bitcoin going into limbo or lull maybe there will always that attempt to get back to $10K level but the bearish influence can be too strong. The year 2020 can see many good developments (including the scheduled halving, of course) that can pull Bitcoin out of the quagmire and we can finally see the chance for Bitcoin to reach the $15K level again. Beyond that level, I would rather not think ahead.

Yes, maybe that will provide something more beneficial for the environment. But does every bitcoin user need to pay attention to the environment?
In my opinion to pay attention to the environment one must realize that the environment is the most important thing in the life ecosystem. Building a charity community is a very appropriate thing in my opinion, and not only crypto users but the government must also be involved.

For people who have a large amount of bitcoin, they can donate it into a fundraiser or as a charity institution. But people are not just donating their bitcoin directly because some people already donate some of their profit to help humankind.

Bitcoin community already moves by themselves, and maybe we have seen some people in this forum giving food to the homeless or other people who really need it. Some of them don't want to expose themselves while they help each other. Soon, the world will know about bitcoin, and we only need to spread the news about bitcoin to them and let them do what they can do.

What can be next for bitcoin? We need approval from the government so they can admit the existence of bitcoin is to help people to get a new source of income. Yes, bitcoin price will increase soon or in the future, but still many things we need to do to introduce bitcoin to the public.

I think the next move for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, in general, would be to establish much more fairer regulations and clear cut rules for businesses, consumers and others. Regulation of crypto has been pretty new and often extreme in cases and with a set rulebook and laws, everything will be made much clearer.

Another thing that desperately needs to happen is way more adoption of bitcoin and other currencies if we truly want blockchain technology to do well in our society, companies and governments need to help make that happen.

We have been good in bitcoin. Now in this case, we should have another one like in bitcoin and for this, we can be added in making some money and earnings like in bitcoin.Adoptation with another cryptocurrency will br the key for another good future and another thing that will get our income.

Bitcoin doesn't need to be used for donations for any cause to increase it's reputation.

Bitcoin is money, and money's reputation doesn't require good will, it just requires that there's consensus on it's future value.

To that effect, what Bitcoin "needs" is more liquidity, more adoption and it's reputation will naturally go up with time.

Why does a currency need to prove itself?

It's money! We do all donate for charity but BITCOIN is not an IP that can do it.

Personals should donate when they can...

The only next step for Bitcoin is mainstream adoption of it in the financial ecosystem. I totally agree with you on the fact that the entire bitcoin community needs to help the world know and understand what bitcoin can do when it is adopted into the financial mainstream. All bitcoin needs right now is mainstream recognition and adoption. That is the next step for bitcoin.

Bitcoin has to evolve into something bigger and I hope it will happen in the coming years otherwise things may not go according to plan

I don't think I quite understand this; evolve into something bigger like what?? Bitcoin don't need evolution right now. All bitcoin needs is mainstream adoption and recognition. Once it is in the mainstream, evolution will automatically take place with minimal efforts.

What you are hoping for with Bitcoin has already been happening. Many times was Bitcoin used for charitable donations. If you have read the news about the Amazon forest fires and crypto, there was a particular controversial piece there because a huge donation in BTC amounting to $100,000 was blocked by BitPay. Here are some links on the news:

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitpay-blocks-100k-bitcoin-donation-to-amazon-rainforest-fire-charity
https://www.coindesk.com/100000-crypto-donation-to-amazon-rainforest-charity-blocked-by-bitpay

We also have some charitable initiatives in this forum alone.

The next for Bitcoin in my mind, partly an inevitable future yet partly a wish also, is that Bitcoin is going to become the main currency of the world. I imagine a world in which people are doing transaction with smart phones and digital wallets, and without the use of physical cash.

Bitcoin is already popular so I don't think it's necessary for it to make noise again. What we need is more adoption. We all know that online business is now a trend so it will be a big advantage if most huge online businesses and companies would accept and adopt Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Charity donation won't change the current situation of Bitcoin so we must think of better and bigger possibilities.

I'm completely against this. No organizations, we had enough of those already and it didn't end well. If you want to do it, do it on your own personal motivation or your own separate organization that could happen to accept bitcoin. But never "something representing" Bitcoin, ever again. Leave Bitcoin free of human corruption, Bitcoin is working as intended and needs no special group attributing themselves "leadership".

Price is easy, it will go up, because fiat goes down, but price will tend to go less and less up, until it matches the world average inflation as "up", but only because everyone else go down, which is not Bitcoin's fault.

And of course there will be speculative fluctuations around the "natural" line, which in the long run will always correct back to it. "Zoom out", and you'll recognize this logarithmic graph, which starts very steep and then slows down over time.

I would like to see bitcoin being used more for practical use and growing more as a currency instead of a commodity. Yoo many people look at bitcoin as an investment or stocks. It was meant to be a currency but right now it is something in between.

Charities can be a good thing, of course. At least they could help to bring balance to Bitcoin since currently, it has some negative reputation because of being used by drug dealers and other criminals. However, I don't think it could significantly help to boost adoption. Nor do I think we need an organization that connects Bitcoin to charities as such and thus makes charities a part of Bitcoin identity, so to speak. Bitcoin is money, it's just a revolutionary kind of money. So in a sense, it should remain neutral and universal if we want it to be used more and actually recognized as money.

Totally different beasts. Paypal is a centralized payment processor for fiats alike. Bitcoin's use case is extremely niche for the common average joe, that is why I think it will never be mainstream, or at least not as a regular means of payment. As long as you require technical expertise to secure Bitcoins, and this is a fundamental premise, then it cannot be mainstream by definition. For other reasons as well such as any business that's legal needs to go through KYC and regulations so people would rather get paid in fiat.
If a country is developed then its citizens aren't going to flock to BTC.

The main point is that BTC does not need to be mainstream to be worth millions of $, this is something that a lot of people seem to miss.

You are talking as if "bitcoin" is a person. Can earn reputation by donating for environmental cause? Don't you think bitcoin already has enough reputation that most of the people through out the world already know what bitcoin is. I don't see how this is going to help. Pledge? How would pledging to help create Amazon rain forest create more bitcoin sympathizers? And we don't need any sympathizers.
Anyways, as soon as you donate it to them (assuming they will accept bitcoin donation) they will convert it into fiat currency. Now this is something we don't want.

The next thing for Bitcoin is to become what it was set out originally: a p2p electronic cash system. Bitcoin has turned into digital gold instead of digital cash. I think Satoshi made a mistake when he/she/they designed the reward system to have limited supply. People blindly worship this feature.

Changing Bitcoin is impossible. There is a market for digital gold. BCH was an attempt but it too failed because it also has the limited supply feature. We should start to think about how to make digital cash. My proposal is to add a fairly high inflation rate into the reward system. I outline the problem in this article.

Bitcoin is not an organization, it is a currency and I don’t think that donation or some of the things that is being mentioned here is what will really get people to start using cryptocurrency. Yes, it will create awareness, but it is not enough to really persuade them to take action as to receive or give it out as payment.

What we need is some group of high tech people to physically approach some of these organizations and introduce the concept of cryptocurrency to them, if we can get some organizations to adopt cryptocurrency like amazon and start accepting it as payment, then it will go a long way. The first step is for us to have thousands of merchants that will know about bitcoin, if merchants are ready, then getting people to use it to pay would not be a problem, but if people are willing to use it as payment and yet still does not have where to spend it, that will be a problem.

Yes, the entire bitcoin community needs to focus on how we can help make Bitcoin recognized by people to use it as a payment option for all kinda transactions both online and offline. Adoption of Bitcoin into the mainstream financial space is the next step for Bitcoin. Mass adoption is the solution to most of Bitcoin's challenges.

Donations alone won't solve anything. They will not increase the reputation of bitcoin, they will only increase the reputation of the one who donates. After all, for many funds now it is not important what to accept as donations, they also work with cryptocurrency. But apply the technology and solve any global issues, it would strengthen the position of bitcoin.

There's already charities that accepts bitcoin for donation. About the donation for the environment, it's good that some big bitcoin holder can donate and help to sustain the environment. It's actually one of the main issue the world is facing right now. As for the donation, it's easy to donate but the thing is if organizations would accept bitcoin or other cryptocurrency when accepting donation.

It's not bitcoin who can do something good, it's the people. Why not make organization in bitcoin community that focuses on helping the environment that would also look for sponsors that are willing to donate

there are ? good  . in that way bitcoin users wont get shy to donate some of thier coins in an anonymous way because btc dontations means we can give any amount that we can afford but even before that no charities are accepting btc , some btc related institutions and communities that i see , were already converting thier btc's to fiats and other acceptable payment method just to donate for the beneficiary or charity of thier choice  . i know because im a member of thier site and they did posted some proof's

This would never happen. Bitcoin is more of a trading asset/currency rather than a humanitarian tool to help better the world. I mean, wealthy individuals can still donate to these causes using bitcoin, but ultimately it will end up being exchanged to fiat (and cause a small dump, should OTC trading didn't take place) in order to buy things that are needed to rebuild and repair whatever that needs repairing. It's a good thought of donating to something that's actually gonna help everyone in this world, but we all know that charities would rather receive donations in kind or in cash as they would be needing a lot of liquidity to get faster resources and supplies.

This can only happen if bitcoin is a centralized entity and a part of tx fees can be allocated to some charities. But it is not. Even if rich bitcoin users donate to charity using bitcoin, the merit will not go to bitcoin but to the person who donated.

It is impossible to happen. And how can we help a disaster if it is being caused by the government itself. Bitcoin community doesn't need to make a name by acting as a hero, by showing the public that we can contribute to them by helping who's in need. For the meantime, we just need to wait for the time to come when everyone will finally acknowledge the existence of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not a person or is bitcoin a government nor is bitcoin a house of cabals.  So in a funny way bitcoin can not send bitcoin to help with hazard or natural disasters. If an individual that has good will to send money for aid then also can bitcoin be sent to relief people
It just that bitcoin is not yet recognize by the government and there is no one donating bitcoin because they see the potential of it of growing as an asset rather than a currency. I am looking on how long it takes before it can be use as real currency though price fluctuates time to time unlike any other currencies. Maybe in the future people can see it as real money.

Don't you think bitcoin community needs to focus on world affair so that we can be a part of mainstream and recognized by people ?
This is one of the reasons why Bitcoin is the best. You shoudn't ask about this question because Bitcoin community itself has nothing to do or has, that's why bitcoin is DECENTRALIZED, no one decides what the community will do on Bitcoin.
If there are people or group of people don't want Bitcoin, then so be it, Bitcoin will stay and it will continue to be recognized, especially also there are lot of problems nowadays in humanity that Bitcoin can solve.

Bitcoin is not controlled by anyone. He is not a company to do charitable actions that will improve his reputation. It uses a decentralized network, it is not a company. Also, Bitcoin cannot be sanctioned, precisely because it is not controlled by anyone.
What's next for Bitcoin? A stagnation of about 2-3 years at this price and then a historical boom.

The adoption rate of cryptocurrencies will increase in the next years.
More and more establishments will accept not just Bitcoin but other cryptos.

These are some of the things that will happen for Bitcoin in the future. I know there are some but there is a possibility that it will not happen. I believe that those two will happen every year. Many are saying that Bitcoin will rise in the next year but there is still a possibility that it will not happen :).

There is always a good samaritan in every organization or industry.  I am sure there are already community that had been doing this kind of good deeds.  You can check this list of Bitcoin charity

Maybe not controlled by any individuals, and not ultimately under the decision of single big entities, but Bitcoin is somehow still under the sway of several big entities. Since I've come to know it, this decentralisation aspect has been improving by leaps and bounds, to be sure. But the fact that certain parties have tried to influence its directions, (though failed), the fact they thought it was possible said something about the state of Bitcoin then.

What's next? Period of low hype. Quiet adoption.

Definitely not.

Why? Are the governments suspending fiat inflation? No, because they are fools that follow the school of Chicago dogma and fear deflation. Therefore if bitcoin where to magically go stable, its price in fiat would still increase opposite to the induced inflation.

So no, its not that bitcoin goes up, its that the $ € etc go down, but people don't see it.

There is also no reason for a "historical boom". The price is showing a logarithmic curve, it starts with a steep increase in price that slows down as time passes, if anything, bitcoin price increases should slow down, and also the fluctuations, which will always occur because its free, but less and less as it gets mature and goes the way of gold.

Bitcoin (thankfully) doesn't have built in inflation so it can never become "stable" against the fiat currencies. It can be used as a way to escape this inflation and preserve purchasing power, but don't expect to live forever over this. It was fun in the first decade, by the end of the next decade you better have diversified and found another source of income, that preferably pays in bitcoin yes, but not bitcoin itself as a source of "magic growth money".

The "getting rich overnight" thing is over, as it should be. And guess what, no change is needed to Bitcoin, its working fine.

Everything starts with a small step.

It doesn't always start with big steps.

I know that it is true but I think if you start saving, maybe start a group that would help using Bitcoin, which can start a big help. Bitcoin will stay as it is right now, an investment.

As long as the price of Bitcoin is above $7700 there is nothing to panic. Technically we are still in the Bull market. If the price goes below $7700 then you can call it a Bear market. Historically September and October have been like this. You need to wait until next month for the price to take an upward trend. This is the best time to accumulate more and keep on HODLing till halving.

LOL.. who is going to donate? Individual users can always do that, but Bitcoin has no centralized authority to make a donation from its part. You can request the miners to donate a fixed percentage of the transaction fee, but I don't think that there will be a consensus on that (and chances are that they are not going to be happy about it). My personal opinion is that we need to first establish ourselves, before we set out on grand plans such as saving the environment. We have been going through a bearish phase for the last two years and many of the users are in deep red. First let's take care of the members of our own community, before stepping out and save the world.

Actually the problem here is decentralization. In decentralization there is no central authority who addresses to the issues like development and broadcasting of bitcoin to make it more publicly recognized and acceptable. Also for community to help someone needs to take an initiative. Initiative to visit the Amazon and actually help the victims. Maybe this forum is our only public speaking point through which our community can communicate otherwise there is nothing with which we can actually speak together. I surely do agree that these things should happen but no only to create more bitcoin sympathizers but merely for humanity in general. Maybe some Staff Member can take the  initiative to create a thread in which we all can contribute whatever we want.

Well I think you already know that Bitcoins is doing things to help with environment already and it was a very old news .

What I think is it can reduce the amount of waste generated by the minning and all ( carbon footprint ) , that's all it needs to do right now , I think the big generators and all should only be allowed with some sustainable source of energy .

This list of charities accepting bitcoin will be a good start for our community to have an opportunity to help others and support different causes. We need to unite so bitcoin will be the one recognize. All that is needed to do now is to know who are the people interested in participating in these charity acts.

It's people's own responsibility to not get sucked into buying at the very highs of a bull run. Bitcoin is there for people to actually be used as money or a hedge against political/economical turmoil. If you gamble your way to zero by buying the peaks and sell the bottoms, that's your problem. It's a brutal and impossible to time market we're in. One should never forget that.

Bitcoiners don't owe the society anything. If the society is brainwashed where they blame Bitcoin for all sorts of nonsensical problems, then they have a problem themselves.

I find it way worse that the so called society is backing governments that continue to squeeze every penny out their inhabitants through taxes and whatnot. Tax money that is also being utilized to finance proxy wars. ::)

There have already been charities financed in crypto. We can't really talk about the future for Bitcoin or the purpose of use, since it's a currency.... On the other hand, we can expect that adoption by the general public will increase and that more and more of our payments will be made in crypto ! More and more good causes and less and less bad causes !

it's also better if for example the bitcoin community can care about the community and the environment around it to maintain the beauty of the universe and contribute various needs to the surrounding community so that people see better that the bitcoin community is good and cares for the needs that are around it to be ignored.

Some Bitcoin community already doing that, in fact there are so many donations website created using Bitcoin as their form of donation, although some of them are in a bad light, like Mavrodi's MMM version of donation, there are local Bitcoin community that's been doing that, in fact you can start your own campaign or anyone here.

There's no clear ways for Bitcoin even the anticipation is high but it will be depends from how adoptions will take place. If more people and businesses that will embrace the system it can create a huge impact with Bitcoin and other good Alts to get support from the market. We are relying with how much appreciation that will happen after some more months or years to come. Patience and stay optimistic if you already holding good numbers of assets.

If you are donating money, then the receiving party no longer cares in which format you sends that money. Ever since Wikileaks started accepting Bitcoin in 2011, we had thousands or even tens of thousands of charities accepting Bitcoin payments. Even Wikipedia (which took an ant-Bitcoin stance earlier) was begging for BTC in 2017. But one of the issues that we face in our country (India) is that only donations made in fiat currency are liable for tax breaks. If you are donating BTC to some charity, then you can't claim tax breaks for the same. So whenever I make some donations, I first convert my cryptocurrency to fiat cash, and make payments using these funds.

Well, I don't think bitcoin can help unless if someone will his/her fiat money and exchange it to bitcoin then you'll be able to donate it. In that way you can promote bitcoin and many people will find bitcoin very helpful to them but if you mean that bitcoin itself well bitcoin can't donate to anyone or anything.

That's the right decision. If you can make a donation of fiat money, then why use Bitcoin. This is even from a security point of view. I do not use cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. It is better to trade cryptocurrency or keep it for the long term.

I dont think we need to focus on world affair just to be become mainstream. I mean, there is no single entity that is fully controlling bitcoin so doing that, all crypto users cannot do that because they can do whatever they want, unless some rich crypto user will do it and promote bitcoin at the same time.

Those rich Bitcoin bag holders can do that as part of helping to promote the system, if they will start bringing this  currency mainstream it will be a big lift. Seeing more attention to wide venues and attract more people to start venturing with this new ways of investing your money.
Future still need to get more interested participants who will be willing to attained more success.

An interesting forecast already for 2021. Of course, I also believe that in the future there will be other prices for cryptocurrency assets. You need to invest in cryptocurrency now, when prices are low.
