Title: Re: Decentralized Perpetual Swap? Thinking about building this on Ethereum, thoughts

Surprisingly there might be a market for this because the ETH perpetual swap on Bitmex is quoted in USD, but your margin is quoted in BTC,
so when you bet on ETH there, you are taking effectively a Quanto position.

If you build something purely for ETH / USD, there can be some interest and place for it on the Ethereum network.

Hey thinking about adding a decentralized perpetual swap type thing to my decentralized ethereum app, exciteprice.com.

Anyone have any thoughts about this idea?

Could be like the decentralized bitmex?

The idea is good. As I'm dealing with perpetual contracts on a daily basis, I see 2 main issues:

- How would you calculate the funding rates? Sums will be too small to send it even on a daily basis.

- How do you plan to attract volume? Because without good liquidity, your service will die quickly.

If you solve the two problems above, it will become an interesting service.

Ohh, am I into a gambling board or somewhere else?

- what is decentralized perpetual swap?
- what is Quanto position?

I may google and find what you people are discussing but I just want to know what kind of gambling discussion going on here.. ::)

I do not think this discussion is relevant to Gambling. You should have posted it under technical discussion or trading discussion as most of us do not have any idea about decentralized perpetual swap.

This is more appropriate in Exchanges board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=223.0

OP, you can move this thread there. Find the option to move below (left side).

May I ask if this is also your official blog https://medium.com/exciteprice/getting-started-guide-for-excite-price-fbce826fe60e ?

I agree, this is the wrong board. However, as it is related to Altcoin, it should be in altcoin Discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0) or in Altcoin Service Discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=198.0)

This isnt the right place for this one yet you already post up different threads in the past also in the wrong board.

A perpetual swap is what Bitmex offers (except not decentralized, click for link (https://www.bitmex.com/app/perpetualContractsGuide)); it's similar to a futures contract without an expiry date, thus perpetual, and utilizes funding for either shorts or longs in order to keep prices close to market prices which are calculated from the price on other exchanges, and it's also a derivative.

A quanto contract is just a derivative contract that is settled in a currency that isn't the underlying asset. Using Bitmex as an example again, ETH futures are a quanto contract where your profit and loss is settled in XBT and the contract's underlying is XBT/USD. Click here for Bitmex's guide on their quanto ETH contracts (https://www.bitmex.com/app/seriesGuide/ETH). The perpetual USD contracts for ETH are also similar in design.
