Title: Help to recover an Electrum Wallet
Post by: luca.lancellotti on October 16, 2019, 04:41:09 PM
Ciao, I am quiet desperate since some thieves stole an hardcopy of my electrum wallet and the seed from my safe a few weeks ago.
I now have some files I recovered from my laptop (thye were deleted some time ago) but Electrum can't open them since they are probably partially corrupted.
I can open them with notepad and I have the password, is there any way to parse them and decrypt the seed?

Pls help

Your seed is all what the thief needs to have full control over your wallet and to steal your money.
What are the files you recovered from laptop? if one of them is the wallet file and you have the passphrase then you will be able to recover your wallet.
But if the thief already transferred your coins to his wallet then recovering yours would have no benefit.

We could assume the thief have no idea Bitcoin or Bitcoin mnemonic phrase
And hope it's true.

Please do not panic and think one step after another.
You do not have any other copy of the seed?

What file you are talking about that you can open with notepad?
Is it a wallet file without any extension? or it is AES-256 Encrypted text?

Much better to tell us which file you are talking about.

Also, check this below you can use this tool for recovering your Electrum wallet.

Just add this if the ETFbitcoin doesn't work try to install an old version of Electrum below 2.9.3 you can download it from their download page from here https://download.electrum.org/

This is working to me when I have received an error that the wallet file is corrupted. After that get the seeds at the bottom right of the wallet.

does the file contain human readable json text like below?

If it's a lot of money you may want to consider a professional data recovery service. You can do a lot of damage by trying to do it on your own.

Do you have any log or a file with your addresses that contain the Bitcoins?
If you do please check them on a block explorer like Blockchair. That way you will know if the bitcoin is still there or if your wallet has been emptied by the thieves. If the addresses are empty you are out of luck and all the other steps aren't necessary. But it is also possible that the thieves have no idea what Bitcoin is and they were just looking for cash, gold and other valuables.
