Title: Missing BTC after transfer from Electrum to Ledger Nano S
Post by: tomcat11 on October 22, 2019, 04:34:09 PM
Hi all,

I did a lot of reading trying to recover my funds, (or at least to know exactly if I am still in control of them) but I cannot made success yet.

I did a transfer from all my BTC on Electrum Wallet (all purchased in different transactions in coinmama) to my ledger nano s wallet.
After the transfer has been confirmed, I still see 0 funds in ledger, but I can see the -0.33 BTC transfer in electrum.

I suspect there is related to the legacy or change address. But I am no expert at all so maybe you can guide me to recover them.

This is the transferblock:
https://blockstream.info/address/1KdnQsgKAWJ7MdiGfqdt6oStXgAcZ82JPS
It says an address that start with 1K (so I suspect a legacy one? that cannot be shown in ledger live? )

I did my transfer to an address that was start with 3Aj6... so not sure why that 1 address appear in the middle.

I just updated my ledger firmaware to latest 1.5.x and also tried to open the ledger wallet using my 24 words seed in Electrum as legacy format but no success.

I would really appreciate if you can point me to recover them.
Thank you all!

Ledger Live supports legacy addresses. You should be able to add a new Bitcoin account with this kind of addresses.

It sounds like the address has been replaced by a malware or the Electrum itself. What version of Electrum do you have and where did you download it from?

Thanks for the quick response!

I had one bitcoin added previously on ledger and then I try to add another and only a native segwit was possible.

I tried to run the transfer with the old version 3. but asked me to download the new version 4.0.0
And I just realized that there is no version 4 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5129809.0

I want to kill myself.
Thank you, at least I will not waste more time on this, and will be much more careful next time, checking signatures.

Your life is worth much more than $16k.  I'm sorry for your loss, but if you're anything me you'll make more mistakes, it's part of life.  They will only make you stronger in the long run.

Can't stress the importance of this enough.  Even those who've been into crypto for a while can be duped by a subtle scam like this one.  Learn to use PGP, learn to verify signatures.  I just helped a friend of mine get into crypto currency (actually I forced him to, lol.)  Before helping him set up his new Trezor T I showed him how to use PGP and verify Electrum and Trezor bridge downloads with it.  It's one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your safety.
