Truth is, nobody knows WHEN altcoins starts moving, everyone's attention is at BTC currently, and if you look around the crypto communities is pretty much dead. Once the hoard returns, I'm sure we'll see a massive bull run, everything will move again, and the bull run we saw in 2017 will seem like small bump on the road.
That's my prediction anyway.

Regulation, will be tightened, peoples trading histories automatically shared with the IRS, everything will be regulated at some point, hence why DEX solutions seems like the obvious choice for those of us who wants to stay anon.
I'm accumulating Blocknet for this very reason in fact.

right now is the time to buy coins at every dip. but maybe check out the coins that you believe will really be gaining prices in the long run. i am buying some of them. don't buy by bulk because that will only spike the price making traders dump at you. the market i think will stick for a long time or maybe until just next year. prices of the tokens among the tops ones are just not dropping too much to its good to just keep busy trading with it and buying for your stash.

The top altcoin will move higher when the price of bitcoin starts to move higher, i am not going to invest in any altcoin further as i am not having the confidence to do so, i have the fork coins of bitcoin and i am expecting those to move higher with bitcoin and you never know what will happen in the future, i will avoid ETH for now and if you are looking for profit the anon coins might be forced out of the exchanges in the future when regulations are forced upon these exchanges.

Maybe ETH if want to buy altcoin. Or maybe just buy bitcoin and then hold until halving.Safer if you afraid to lose more. Because bitcoin still have possibility to get pumped because it's halving. If me and i am new in this kind of investment, i will take safest way to make investment. Although every investment have risk.

Some may. It depends how useful they are. But yes you are right we will not see all alts x100 with Bitcoin under $20k. There can happen something that call for fungibility or opaque ledger and Monero togetehr with all opaque ledger cryptocurrencies will make a leg up.  Or can happen what happened with Ethereum when ICO boom happened in 2017.

One example is the Binance coin, it is an outlier, a cut above the rest of the altcoins because profits from the number one crypto exchange is partially used for coin buybacks. On hindsight, a smart investor would have sold all his altcoins and just buy into Binance coin.

Basically, altseason is not even a certainty. Some alts bleed out when Bitcoin pumps and also when it dumps whereas others just go with Bitcoin while most others work in reverse of Bitcoin's movement.
Nice alts to buy is BNB and ETH, maybe a few other alts in top 10 CMC. Any alt right now without a real and applicable project/product will soon die off.

Don't expect for some altcoin to go somewhere if Bitcoin is shrinking, it just means that most of these altcoins are still following the trend of Bitcoin. You should put your hopes on Bitcoin first instead of those altcoins. But as the current market conditions, it is the best time to invest since most of the price are in dip.

Keep bitcoin.

That's all you have to do during this season, bear season, bull season, altcoin season which means you should keep it in all seasons that we're experiencing. Still a lot asking about alts season, there's no one can answer you guys when it will arrive.

The demand for alts are solely dependent on BTC. There is very few alts that exist in a vacuum and don't follow BTC's wider movements (XRP is one of them, I think).

Perhaps altcoins will rally against BTC while BTC is falling but it is highly improbable for any alt to rally in USD or other fiat currency terms while the overall market sentiment is bearish, as indicated by falling BTC prices.

When altcoin will come can't be estimated and we have talked about this since the price of bitcoin was touching yearly ATH but it's not yet happened till this time.  There will be no altcoin season but the fact that altcoin itself can determine whether it will be hyped or not.
You should see the altcoin market right now and some altcoins can overcome the bitcoin bearish trend with its fast recovery. that means altcoin has a good credibility among the buyers.
I'm not sure if I can choose one that suitable for you but some altcoins like chainlink, bitcoin sv, and tron can get the reverse trend to recover its lose in term of the dollar value caused by bitcoin.
Altcoin is going based on the development progress and the rumour about a big news.
Bitcoin gives nothing to the movement of altcoin.
It's proven if altcoin is going nowhere till BTC moves is really wrong statement.

When? the answer is no one knows because we are all just playing in a prediction game here.

Some people says it will be in the last quarter of this year like the last bull run in 2017 but its not happening and not signs at all, so the best thing to do now if you still trust the market or the altcoins to recover is just to continue accumulating this cheap altcoins and wait for its rally, probably it might take long but as long as it will happen it will always make us profitable.

It is hard to answer when will be the altcoin season like 2017 does. We all are hoping for the comeback season of altcoins this 2019 but was only a disappointment  since only shitcoins are created without further use in crypto market.

I suggest you only hold and buy those coins that are established like btc and eth. Those who are on the top 10-20 lists in CMC and choose those projects that have a significant use and objective. These implies a capabality and potential of a certain coin.

Well we barely know when Bitcoin make another move and start a bull run so predicting an altcoin run makes it almost impossible.

We must wait and see how Bitcoin will be after the halv in order to draw conclusions on an altcoins run. So yea , I can't prove you wrong but I can say that some altcoins will make a move before Bitcoin will make his as some of them have powerful tech on-going in development.

Agree, there is no need for alt if we are in the bear season more of them will lost its value morethan what you will lose if you are in BTC. BTC has less volatile in red season compare to other crypto coin that lost morethan 100% or more.

The thread heading perfectly says the prevailing market situation of the altcoins. There has been big growth expected with altcoins over the years, and nothing big happened other than the launch of new IEOs that profited the investors. Apart from this very few number of altcoins like Binance popped high marking its new ath.

The price of bitcoin grew strong against the altcoins, this showed the way for large investments on altcoins. Even by that none showed interest on investing over altcoins. This has kept the market of altcoins low against bitcoin. Now there is mutual fall and rise in value with bitcoin. Following this we can experience growth of altcoins when bitcoin grows.

I won't prove you wrong, I agree. Alts are stuck at the moment. They are low vs BTC, but they have been that way for a while, and there is little buy pressure to raise their prices. So people won't buy alts at current BTC prices... in order for alts to become more desirable, they need lower prices vs BTC. There are two ways for this to happen, a) BTC increases in price more than alts do, or b) alts drop in price more than BC does. Either way will increase the BTC dominance, and make alts more desirable. However only option 'a' is likely to increase buy pressure at all, 'b' is more likely to lead to further sell-offs as confidence falls.

So I would say that we need a rising market, with BTC rising more than alts, before we could see the start of an alt bull.

indeed no one can know when the altcoin season starts but you have to know that altcoin prices can go up without having to wait for the price of bitcoin to rise or bitcoin to fall, altcoin prices can be very expensive when there is good news that can trigger traders to enter and buy altcoin again.

You are correct and I would definitely agree with you.
That's my observation this year also, we had some recovery from BTC and then altcoins started to slowly move especially the major ones.
But now that BTC is again going down trend, we are back again and it seems like altcoins in general has no life again.
It maybe take time to recover and BTC is a good barometer to determine the movement of altcoins.

There's no way for anyone to tell on when alt season will start, but generally, most alts will rise up once BTC goes back to being bullish again. Though there are cases where quality alts are going up due to certain milestones being reached.

As for good projects, I always go for ones that are revolutionary and will aim to improve current systems. Netflix and Twitch are such a hot trend now and are being rivaled by Microsoft making their own streaming platform. Adoption is key and we need to keep going since we know how crypto can positively disrupt the industry.

It is true. Actually really disappointing picture, because BTC dominance is around 65 percent, which does not affect altcoins in any kind. Maybe the dominance need to fall below 50 percent, to launch altcoins movement?

As far as I can see, bitcoin pumps or dumps every fixed days and after that, we are having some small alt periods but after that, we are having the fixed pumps and dumps which ruin the gains of the mini alt periods. So, yes, altcoins are going nowhere until we have decided the bitcoin's price for sure. This will be possible after the halving I guess, so we have a lot of time for that.

I actually believe so too, altcoins have not shown any real incentive in a long time, so I don't expect them to start now.

We do not know where, how and why altcoin season will begin? Alcoins are probably gonna get some support from Bitcoin, but we do not even know from which increase. Look at the recent increases in BTC, altcoins are unaffected from most. All I can say is that the continuous and bigger increase in the BTC price will affect altcoins, for me, we should wait for it.

Absolutely the altcoins wilk move its price when there is also a movement of bitcoin's value and i think that when the price is going up then also all are following up.

That is why bitcoin is still the king of crypto and it all depends on the value if its going up or down. It just a matter of price level and depends on the market.

that's just market manipulation, some coins may go to pump but many coins cant be pump

if the exchanges dont do pump any coins, so how do trader still interest trading in that exchange?

so, it's logic if exchange do fake pump to get investor/ trader interest, and increase trading volume too

So hodl BTC and let play with the alts meanwhile? Agree that market's going to explode sooner or later...

Either way, Altcoins have always been the victim anytime the market has moved. Since the last altseason in 2017, Altcoins have always prone to market moves and dumps. So whether or not, Bitcoin moves, The story would still be the same.

You never know, that's the sweet things in crypto. Let's be surprised (in a good way) !

Support from BTC will definitely be needed in this case.

For the current market, I think we should not trade or hold any coin. why?
We are seeing a huge fluctuation. Just 2 days ago, the value of bitcoin dropped 10% in just one night. and now it is rebounding almost 9%, this is considered a heavy manipulation and you should not enter the market now. It is very risky and the possibility of losing money is higher. Please wait for the market to stabilize again, which is the best strategy.

I don't think altcoins are going nowhere, rather reputed altcoins are still stable enough. Yes, most of the altcoins are decreasing continuously, but look at the ETH, LTC, BNB, 0LINK, ATOM, XLM, TRX and so on! They are still in good situation and in every BTC moves, top altcoins are growing up too. Even new altcoins like ONE, MATIC, SERO doing great, they are still up from their sale price. It's the Shitcoins, which are going nowhere and for their huge numbers, some good altcoins are passing bad time, that's it. I hope, with the Bitcoin grows, everything will be alright again, this is not the time to blame altcoins.

You can stop trading for a while as the market is not stabilizing and we are passing a very confusing time. But buy and hold can be a good idea at this moment. Before everything, you have to know the potential of bitcoin and other high ranked altcoins. Then in every price drop, you will not feel hesitation to buy bitcoin and hodl. In every bitcoin drops, we should buy it and hold until a decent time to earn a good profit. BTC at 7400 USD was a very good price to buy as much as you can. Even if it goes under 7K USD, then you shouldn't be worry, as you know the potential of Bitcoin, so the price will grow again you know that.
To OP, I think you may buy any coin from the top 40 ranks in Coinmarketcapp to play safe, ETH, BTC, BNB, LTC, XRP, ATOM, BCH, LINK can be a very good choice.

all of altcoin are depends on the price of bitcoin, if bitcoin make any big movement on market of course altcoin are following and adjust the price on market, you'r not wrong.

I love the way you said that with authority, I mean your topic, which I agree with you that the performance of these altcoins really depend on how bitcoin also performs too and I know too that they will go nowhere until bitcoin changes its position to a proper uptrend, and when bitcoin start rising, only the top altcoins would start rising too which brings me to the body of your post containing question of which altcoin to buy?

From my point above, you could see that the altcoin that you should go for are altcoins that are within the top 20, they are the ones you can be happy about too when you seebitcoin rising, but other altcoins have to follow altcoin season before they can rise which will be when bitcoin goes sideways and that time is what I don’t know.

ZEC, ADA ,ETC are the best choices in my opinion
i hold few more coins but these have a good reward and minimal risk
(ZEC Has more risk but it has a very high reward potential)

and they dont have to move only after BTC moves.. they may be the fuel before the next bitcoin bullrun just like it happened with ZEC in 2017
ZEC had a run up against bitcoin and only after that bitcoin ran up against usd, and then other altcoins followed while ZEC has bad performance

Altcoins is so many that makes the competition between altcoins is quite hard, the btc movement must be make altcoin going down. But in the recovery phase , maybe there are new altcoins coming up to steal people attention. So, if the altcoins have bad management from their team they will be dead anytime soon

Not yet time to buy altcoins. Ethereum crashed against BTC, but gained $20 against USD which means you probably profited more if you just held on to BTC and not ETH. This is probably the same story with other altcoins. Bitcoin is the focus now for probably in the next weeks.

Altcoin investors need a lot of patience specially that there is no accurate time on when prices may rise. I believe that some altcoin may rise independently if there are project development however some of it may not correlate or influence prices.

I agree with you, we have some small cap altcoins but their price is decreasing every day because everyone is busy pumping up the larger cap coins which is making us less wealthy holding the small cap coins and tokens. I still believe we might be lucky to get some pumping later down the road, that is if the projects we hold tokens and coins in actually progress as per their roadmaps. This time though if they do pump, I am sure we will see some light and I will sell at the highs, not like in last bull run because they will dump very hard and fast. So if each coin sees a new ATH or pump I will sell.

Those aren't bad choices, tho I think ltc is overrated.  BNB might be a little of that as well, and there are other coins on the market better than the ones you named.  I'd prefer not to give out a personal list of my own picks because I can't stand shilling, but if I was op I would take a look at coinmarketcap.com and see the top 25 to 50 coins.  Those are *probably* worth investing in and they have the highest chance of surviving the next few years in my opinion.

I'd say it is.  Bitcoin just started a nice bull hop, which could lead to bigger gains and if that's true then altcoins are going to be rising along with btc.  Not to instigate FOMO, but you don't want to miss out.

Prices tend to follow similar patterns, whale accumulation, tax season, etc
