According to the official site Ledger Live is supported on " 64-bits desktop computer (Windows 8+, macOS 10.8+, Linux), excluding ARM Processors. + Android 7+ or iOS 9+ smartphone." Accordingly to that, I think you'll need to find another way to update the firmware for your Nano S.

There is an option to install Linux on Chromebook, but for most it's not an easy process and something they want to try at all. In your case best option is to find any PC with Windows 10 or Linux, and depending on your current firmware update can be made in just a few minutes.

If using Chrome OS, you might need to install Linux. At least, according to this (https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/9aga65/does_ledger_work_on_chromebooks/).

Also, if you only have BTC to store, you might be able to use the Ledger manager  (https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007534774-Download-Ledger-Chrome-apps)as it's not depreciated yet.

If you're not willing to install Linux on your chromebook, just use your phone to transact. Ledger Live is available on both Android and iOS. You probably already know this if you own the Ledger Nano X, but just so if you don't know yet: you can also use the Ledger Nano S on Ledger Live mobile if you have an OTG cable: https://shop.ledger.com/products/ledger-otg-kit

EDIT: Whoops. I seemed to have missed the "update" part. In this case, I suggest probably borrowing a Windows/Linux device from a friend temporarily just to update the firmware, then just use your mobile for transacting.

mjglqw, OP is asking about firmware update and he needs to find a way to do that since it is not possible on Chromebook. I am not sure is it possible to make firmware update via Ledger Live mobile, or this operation is exclusively related to the desktop version?

As for using Nano S on Chromebook, maybe Linux Appimage would work on this OS since it is based on Linux?
