I haven't used coinbase in a long time, but they're a safe place to buy bitcoin from as long as you don't use it to gamble or do anything else that they deem wrong.  It would help to know what country you're in before recommending exchanges, because not all of them are available in all countries.

You might work out a deal on this forum in the currency exchange section, tho being a newbie you probably won't be able to do it with a reversible payment method.  It isn't exactly easy to buy bitcoin these days if you want to remain anonymous, so good luck if that's your goal.

To be sincere the Gemini exchange inspires me the most confidence as they are based in New York and run by the Winklevoss brothers. But there are many reliable exchanges out there that work very well like Bitstamp, Bitfinex or Kraken. If you'd like to be more on the safe side I recommend using an exchange with KYC/AML procedures and first of all DO NOT HOLD your cryptos on exchange accounts.

Coinbase had the problem but as far I know Coinbase already fixed that. Coinbase app is working very smoothly now, maybe that problem occurred because of the update. Buying from the Coinbase app is easier than buying from the Coinbase Pro exchange!

This is a really good idea but sometimes it is very risky. Last year, in our country, some random people known by facebook went to deal like this. But the seller dumped the buyer badly, the buyer was injured too, it was just 1500 USD deal. So, I would not recommend to do it, buying from an exchange is easier and convenient. First check out local Bitcoin to determine the price in your location, you can also purchase Bitcoin from their. If you want to buy it from an Exchange then use Binance exchange. On Binance you can buy Bitcoin using credit card.

for now that in my opinion the safest place to buy bitcoin is a place of exchange such as binance, Huobi and Kucoin because I see that the four exchanges have very high trading volume and have very high security so it makes me really choose where to buy bitcoin and provide advice for you.

Binance is available in almost all the countries  and I vouch for binance from my personal experience and if coinbase is available then you can go for coinbase as it's a reputed and one of the primary key players. If you are really new, try to learn more deeply. Try it with a trusted local exchange in your country, which can deposit with fiat used in your country. Learn how to analyze the market well, don't just be affected by FOMO. The point is you have to really understand the cryptocurrency ecosystem first, so as not to get caught up in fraud and loss.

He can still use binance which I don’t think that would still stop him from using local exchanges to move his money out since he will always make use of transfer. When I first started cryptocurrency trading too, I started with Binance because binance seems to still have the most friendly trading platform than all these other exchanges and if there is any need for me to move my money into fiat to buy any personal needs, I just transfer it to that local exchange that I trust which is quite easy to do.

So, if the newbie is to take advantage of very cheap trading fee, I think that it is best for him to just go for binance straight away as that is the only exchange that can benefit him more.  Other exchanges like kucoin, kraken and the rest are ok too, but I still believe more in binance.

Coinbase isn’t familiar for the world wide. Because a lot of countries are restricted here. Also i used it only for hold my Bitcoin or Ethereum otherwise i can't buy anything to using coinbase.
