Are you talking about this: https://shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-live
If you read a bit more below you will see this:

Desktop App Compatibility

Fully compatible with Ledger Blue, Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X.

You will need a 64-bits desktop computer (Windows 8+, macOS 10.8+, Linux), excluding ARM Processors.

You can use a Windows 8 or 10 computer excluding those with ARM processors. Hope this answer your question.

Edit: you are referring to Windows 10 in S mode, I had to read your post a few time to get it. I'll check it out now.

Seems like in the S mode you can run only apps that are listed in Microsoft Store.
Unfortunately, Ledger Live is not one of them ..  See below:

What apps can I use on a PC that's running Windows 10 in S mode?

You can download and install apps from the Microsoft Store in Windows. To find Microsoft Store apps, you must be in Windows 10. To discover which apps are available for your device, select Microsoft Store  on the taskbar. If you don't see the Microsoft Store  icon on the taskbar, select the Start  button, type Microsoft Store, then select it in the list of results to open the Store.

Note

If you switch out of S mode, you can install 32-bit (x86) Windows apps that aren’t available in the Microsoft Store in Windows. If you make this switch, it's permanent, and 64-bit (x64) apps still won't run.

No. You CANNOT use Ledger Live on Windows 10 S. Windows 10 S is somewhat barebones locked version of Windows. It only allows installation through Microsoft's own store, which Ledger does not exist. You can't run executables or download any extra programs through the web. You will require a standard (Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise etc.) version of Windows 10.

They can still exit the 'S mode' and switch to a family or Pro edition. The only drawback is it's final, they can not then come back to the 'S edition'. @OP can buy it and then he will just need to go on settings>update> switch to xyz and it's done, the OS will be 'unlocked'. It takes a few minutes, no big deal.

I have customer before that have windows in S mode they want to switch it to windows 10.

You can simply go to the settings>update and security>activation then you can see there is an option to switch to windows 10 home click the go-to store after that you will redirect to Microsoft store then click the "GET" button then install.

So you don't need to be worry to buy if it's cheap then switch the S mode to Windows 10 home to able to use the ledger live app without any issue.

I don't think that switching out of Windows S will work. As iasenko points out:
If you switch out of S mode, you can install 32-bit (x86) Windows apps that aren’t available in the Microsoft Store in Windows. If you make this switch, it's permanent, and 64-bit (x64) apps still won't run.

Ledger Live is not 32-bit compatible:
A computer with at least macOS 10.9, Windows 8 (64-bit) or Linux Ubuntu 16.10 (64-bit)
Sorry, 32 bits support isn't planned

Options for OP are to switch out of Windows S mode and use an alternative interface to Ledger Live, such as Electrum, or to dual boot in to a 64 bit version of Linux (if his hardware will support it) and run Ledger Live on that, which gives the added benefit of not exposing your crypto activities to the spyware which is Windows 10.
