What is Spending-Bitcoin.com?

We are aiming to be the largest, and most up-to-date, directory of online stores accepting Bitcoin. Most of the websites we could find are either very outdated or they are missing a lot of websites, which is why we decided to build this directory. We are offering:

• Lightning Network support
• No advertisments
• No referral/affiliate links
• No storage of user data
• No shitcoins

What's in it for us?

Nothing! We've built this website out of love for Bitcoin and to help spread adoption. We have no plans to monetize our website by placing advertisements or selling user data (we're looking at you mr. Zuckerberg!). In fact, we've built a custom analytics system that allows us to track user behaviour on our website without storing any of the user's data.

How can you add a website?

Anyone can submit new websites. All you need to do is enter a valid URL (no referral links!) and hit the 'submit' button. Our website automatically generates a website title, description, avatar and banner for you, making the submission process as simple as possible!

What if a website stops accepting Bitcoin or shuts down?

If you run into a website that stopped working, isn't accepting Bitcoin anymore, turns out to be a scam, or any other reason, all you need to do is hit the 'report' button. Enter the reason why you are reporting a website and hit the 'submit report button'.

Seems like an interesting site, I would recommend that you add a picture to each of the companies/products. It doesn't look nice when you see projects/companies without pictures. Also, there are some minor grammar issues. (Some words should be capitalized etc)

Thank you for the feedback! Our website generates the title, description, logo and banner automatically. It pulls all information from the website itself. If a website is poorly built (not meaning to insult anyone) we can't automatically generate the above. We are adding the logos etc. manually but that is a slow and time consuming process. Some websites don't have a logo so we'll have to use a placeholder. Same for the grammar issue, the text is all pulled from the websites. We'll try to fix everything we run into!

Can you tell me if the listing on your site is free and also do you check if the sites listing on Spending-bitcoin are trusted ones only ?

Thanks for the compliment! Listing websites on our website is absolutely free. Anyone can submit new websites at the bottom of the page. All we do is check to see if the submission meets our requirements (no referral link, no obvious scams etc).

Nice website, thank you! Maybe you will consider some time later filtering by country as well? It will be very helpful for some categories like "Food", for example.

You should actively promote this directory, this is a good resource for those who wants to use their Bitcoin, I like it when it's easy for website owners and online store owners to submit their site, I hope you will not offer a premium listing, so all shops will have an equal promotion, we need more directory like this that promote merchants that uses Bitcoin maybe other coins can follow too.

Are you going to start removing links that turn out to be for scam sites?

Seems like there isn't any moderations practices in place really, anybody can submit a link and have it featured on the site.

Maybe there should be some sort of community moderation feature?

You can report it if you do find a link which is suspicious and a possible scam.Theres a report button as mentioned earlier.

I recently designed the same thing for BPIP.  My system forgets every IP after 24 hours, then it is considered a new visitor.  I would be interested in knowing what you are doing.  :)

Interesting website with all the needed stuff to help us get complete information on how and where to spend BTC. Can you do an extra part on my request? As I'm from India, I don't really see any stores or places accepting BTC nearby me or maybe I'm not aware of it. Just to solve this, is it possible for you to classify these websites into which website serves where?

Each page has a report button in case a website stops working, stops accepting Bitcoin, turns out to be a scam or any other reason. We will receive a notification of each report so we'll try to act on it as fast as we can.

Sure, but costs can sometimes be prohibitive. International shipping, plus any taxes that the receiver might have to pay, can sometimes run in to hundreds of dollars worth, which makes it completely non-viable for most online commerce.

This is great, but before I spend bitcoin on any new site I'm always going to check out any online reviews I can find. Perhaps adding links for each store (where they exist) to relevant review sites such as Yelp, Trustpilot, etc. would be nice.

You've made a great site, and I've already found a couple of new stores I might spend some bitcoin at in the future. I really hope you stay active long term; however, many similar sites that have come before you have eventually withered out and died. How are you going to continue to fund you servers and bandwidth requirements, particularly if, as you say, traffic is starting to exceed expectations? Donations?

We are already working on a rating system for Spending-Bitcoin.com (https://spending-bitcoin.com) users. Most websites are showing their reviews on their frontpage so we prefer not to add more links to our pages, since we want to keep it as clean and simple as possible.

We plan on accepting donations in the future. We chose not to accept donations from the start, since we do not want to give the impression that we are doing this for the money. We love Bitcoin so we plan on stay active for years :).

Definitely need a new listing site. Great to see this effort. Almost everything I try to use as you say is outdated, my suggestion also is to use a geographic categorisation (by country maybe, or by where they ship to). I got a whole lot of sites from my country that mostly, when I visited, actually either no longer accept BTC or the people who run the shop don't know how to operate it.

One more thing: might be a good idea to list the payment processor. As in, Antonoupoulos using BTCPay Server and thuisbezorg using BitPay.

Another thing, I think the effort needs to be spread out, or somehow linked to Google or some other big service like that because the moment you stop updating, you get yet another site that becomes old and outdated.

I would also like to see where each site is located because some things just aren't worth buying because of the pretty expensive shipping, customs, and VAT costs. In some cases, goods purchased in the US and shipped to the EU are more expensive then if we buy the same thing in EU.

As for the site itself, I can say that it is a really great project, and as far as I can see the number of links is constantly increasing. I will definitely do my best to check some categories and maybe submit some new links.

At first glance I notice that in the category "Hosting" is not listed https://www.steadyturtle.com/ which is a very well known hosting company on this forum for years. Of course, they accept Bitcoin as a means of payment.

Considering all the feedback regarding the countries we will add that information to the sidebars. It will be a lot of work to enter the countries since they'll have to be checked manually so please allow us some time to check all 700+ pages ;D.

We have tried to list the payment processors but in reality over 90% of the websites don't display their payment processor anywhere. We'd have to walk through the entire purchase process in order to find out, which is way too time consuming. Only showing the payment processor on a few websites would look messy.

What exactly do you mean by 'linked to Google'?

I would like to suggest that if you have some budget for marketing, you can start a marketing campaign here on this forum as it will increase your traffic to great extent.

There is no budget for marketing (yet) since we are funding everything ourselves and we do not intend to monetize the website. We will start accepting donations in the (near) future.

Although it’s a huge feat, You don’t necessarily have to remind viewers the fact that it’s a self funded project. Posting a bitcoin wallet to receive donations would be a good idea. Probably on your signature box here, your website and your other social media accounts that permits donations.

Btw, since this is one of the few websites that allow for peer-to-per listing and review of websites that accept bitcoin, I’ll suggest you make use of SEO for google search. People new to bitcoin needs to see spending-bitcoin. One popular questions asked about bitcoin is ‘Where can I spend my bitcoins’.

We value our users' privacy, which is why we're not simply posting a donation address. We'll set up a BTCpay donation plugin soon, which will allow us to use an xpub (and Lightning tips).

Regarding SEO, that's on our to-do list. We're also creating a pull request soon in the bitcoin.org Github repo, requesting them to add a link to spending-bitcoin.com on bitcoin.org.

I like the innovation put together to create the site and it will be nice if you guys could add countries where the site listed can ship to (by adding worldwide, local, EU, US etc) in other to save user stress.

I don't think they will have Android app of the site now cause the project was just created a couple of weeks base on the site domain age.

This is totally a site with good features which will increase the user base of cryptocurrency rather using it as medium of value. I just love the love the home and living and the foods categories.

I do see bitcoin more as an online currency than a currency I would like to spend in stores locally. Just a few stores do accept bitcoin and you’ll more likely know that they do accept bitcoin except in cases when you’re new in the place. I’m just saying I prefer fiat for offline transactions and bitcoin for online payments. But like you said it doesn’t hurt to ask If spending-bitcoins would want to add local stores that accept bitcoins.
Also, adding local stores means spending-bitcoin would have to
-tag locations to each Store listed
- and ask every visitor to allow access to their current location (privacy breach) if they want to find out store around that accept bitcoin.

Btw, if in a few years more stores begin to accept bitcoin, it would be great to spend it locally, right now few people know about it here.

We don't have plans for an Android app. We'll continue on making the website extremely mobile friendly so there is no need for an app.


We are considering to add physical stores once we are finished developing the current website. We have already been approached by several parties to help supply data :).


We are working on the locations as we speak. Regarding access to current locations, we're not going to add that. We don't store or access any userdata and we want to keep it that way.

The promotion of online store development is quite good, is this site able to penetrate various businesses, and how much do we have to pay to join and partner with your website? I think you need to accept other altcoins to make payment transactions such as eth and dogecoin.

As we mentioned several times, there is no fee to list on our website. We will not add support for anything other than Bitcoin and Lightning.

I have to admit that I didn't notice at all that it was possible to submit a new link, which is certainly a great option for anyone who wants to contribute to making the site even better with more links. I will definitely add more sites that have the option of paying with Bitcoin, and are not currently listed.

It's commendable to see someone do something for the community and pay it out of their own pocket. I hope you find some source of funding, and I think donations are a good start :)

@OP yeah, now that you mentioned it, it's going to be a heavy manual task to add categorisation, but perhaps find a way to let users add that kind of information.

Sorry, when I said "like Google" I meant like Google map. If you login to google map and allow notification for help settings, you'll get prompted questions about a place you're visiting, like

1. Does this place accept credit cards?
2. Is it handicap friendly, etc.

So for your site, if you could find a way to make it like google map, so users visiting can help update the page like:
- does this place use BitPay?
- does it ship to EU?

I know it's a thankless job but that's the problem I want to try help your site to avoid... because all the listing sites I see started out well until the burden of updating became too much.

2. There is no way for us to tell what the shipping costs are. That all depends on the price of your product(s), the type of shipping you prefer and where they have to send it.

However, I will try to transact and choose my favorite items, hopefully this can be the first step to doing business, where there are my friends, maybe who are interested in buying goods on the online store site, which you are developing right now.

I don't think we have any other database which contains all the bitcoin related site links. This can well become the biggest database for the bitcoin related sites.

Congratulations on a well-designed directory, two years ago  my partner and I bought lister Wordpress script, it's directory WordPress theme and seeing your directory made me think to used this theme for a free directory, we need more directories like this as Cryptocurrency is growing, you are lucky to have gotten that domain name, a domain with Bitcoin on it is quite expensive to acquire now.

I have a couple of suggestions. Your form for adding new website is only to add a website URL. And then we have the most ordinary sentence like "xxx - is the best crypto automated trading tool currently available ...". I do not believe this, is this description added by the administrator or from someone who submits URL? I opened few listings and most of them are best, leader, easiest etc... You need to ask for more details about service before adding them to your directory (it would mean for SEO). Contact information, social media links ... they are also desirable.

I love that it is straight to point with no cluttered design and its also fast! Even with my slow internet i was able to browse through quickly.  ;D
However, I agree with the user above me, you might want consider adding few option for filling in additional details. So that users can know more about the company. I know you want to keep the site clean but few details will make things easier for the viewer.
Nevertheless, I love what I saw. Already bookmarked for future usage.

We want to keep the onboarding as simple as possible, which is why the description is pulled from the website's data (it is the same description that shows up when you Google it). We want to automate the process as much as we can. People can still change it themselves or the website's owner can contact us if he wants to have it edited afterwards.


We have considered adding more information (like examplens mentioned) but that would mean more work for the visitors that visit Spending-Bitcoin.com (https://spending-bitcoin.com). We don't want to scare anyone off by confronting them with a long list of questions like social media accounts, contact information etc. That kind of data can't be automated. If visitors want to know more about the website they can usually find it on their homepage.

The sites which you have mentioned are just the articles written with few sites accepting the bitcoins whereas Spending-bitcoin.com is full fledged database of bitcoin related sites. There is no comparison between the two.

I noticed that every new page added is sorted as the last in its own category, but that almost every category does begin with the letter A. I'm not sure if the pages should be alphabetically sorted within each category, or whether the criterion is actually in the order that each page is added.

I have another question about duplicate links, I have seen at least one example of where this happened(reported). I know that adding each site is manually checked, but it might be a good idea to have an automatic link checker to save time for you and to those who submit links. That's just one idea, hopefully technically applicable to existing code ;)

I have accessed your website, and I am interested in one of the items sold at the store, however:

1. If I want to make a purchase at one of the stores on your website, will there be a guarantee if the items we receive are in accordance with the request?

2. In this case you as the parent of these online stores will you provide a guarantee for the success of transactions that occur between stores and consumers, don't consumers need to get full trust about it from website?

3. Are there restrictions on consumers from countries that have not yet fully regulated cryptocurrency in their countries?

I know you care a lot about transaction security. Let me answer a little of your questions, the website under discussion is an online shop where there are quite a number of products from various categories.
Websites like this of course also function as escrow for all buyers and sellers so they will feel safe to make transactions. If the site doesnt work like this, then i am not sure about its reputation.
I am not one of them, but usually online stores are a safe place to buy and sell and make transactions safely.

User reviews will be very useful for others. We might find out in the near future.

You see, https://spending-bitcoin.com/ is just like an explorer or search engine for online stores that accepts bitcoin as payment method. All you have to do is search for the category of the product you want and explore the bitcoin stores listed under it.

I think adding ratings & reviews to each store should be OK.

Stedsm, there has already been a discussion about shipping and customs/tax, and suggestions for mark each page by country of origin. If you are in Europe and you order something from the USA, depending on the law in your country you will pay VAT and customs costs. In some cases, such a product has an even higher-end price than in your local market.

For now, it's best to check individually any page you want to buy from and ask their support where their warehouse is located.

It's amazing how fast the number of links is growing, which just means there are a lot of places where Bitcoin can be spent, despite what many think that Bitcoin is just a store of value and not a currency. I can confirm that site loading is very fast, and that I like share option, but that I would also like to see more share buttons, maybe for Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp, and other popular apps.

I believe this is the largest collection of links to sites offering Bitcoin as a means of payment, and I'm sure that number will only increase - keep up the good work ;)

Is it possible that we get alert by email if any new site is added in our favorite sections which we like ?
If it is not possible, then you can have a page where all the new listed sites are shown so that we can find if any new site is listed on spending-bitcoin .

The mobile version of our website supports any type of sharing. We'll add more share buttons for desktop but the share feature is mostly used on mobile devices.


We did not create an mailing list on purpose because we do not want to store any type of user data. We are soon adding filters, allowing you to filter on latest entries, most popular, Lightning only etc.

I think this is a really useful project and especially to increase the audience of BTC payments  8)

You're right, I didn't check what the page looks like in the mobile version, and by clicking on share button in fact, all possible sharing options are opening up on my smartphone (android).

Regarding SEO, I was just wondering how your site stands on this so I try to search on Google with some basic keywords (spend bitcoin, where to spend bitcoin), and what can be seen is that there is competition, and your site is not showing on the first page. But we all know that SEO is not something which can be done overnight and that these results will come with time.

What do you think about creating a banner/s? Many people would probably promote your site for free.

We're making a lot of improvements like faster server response, increase mobile friendly features etc. Those all count towards better SEO so we'll continue to make similar improvements. It takes a bit of time to overtake website that have been around for much longer ;D.
