Title: Using crowd funding, like Indiegogo, Kickstarter, to fund altcoin development
Post by: First.Bitcoins on March 18, 2014, 12:40:36 AM
We are using crowd funding to fund our development of AppleBytes - a new coin for support of the Arts, specifically in NYC.
As far as I can tell, we are the first Altcoin to use crowd funding.

We are using crowd funding for three purposes:

1. To build the user community, and get AppleBytes in their hands - coins are given as a reward for donations
2. To fund development, so the premine goes to the AppleByte Foundation to give out to the user community (artists & art lovers in NYC)
3. The Dev team can be paid in Bitcoin, not by premine.

Additional details on AppleBytes are here: Announce Thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=503131.msg5538857#msg5538857)

I think this is an idea, many altcoins could use. And is a fair protection against developer pump & dump.
