Title: Altcoins or Bitcoin?
Post by: Mashfiqun on November 16, 2019, 03:58:45 PM
The fact that altcoins like ETH, BCH and others are slowly gaining more use has made me thinking. If somebody were to HODL one currency, what could it be?
A 100% altcoin portfolio? Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?
Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?

Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?

This type of survey question or thread has been around and you have an idea where majority will tilt towards  ;D. For my own position, I believe multiple hodling is better because any potential use case coin has a time of bull.

Personally I would go for a 100% BTC focused portfolio IF I had to choose between the two, but I believe that altcoins have higher growth potential than BTC just because we haven't seen any serious institutional funds pouring into them. Who knows what heights can them achieve if that would happen? BTC is the less risky choice though if the potential reward is somehow more conservative.

The answer will depend on your goals as an investor.

If you want to spend as little time as possible checking your portfolio and balancing it and you are willing to hold your investment for years or even decades then a portfolio made exclusively with bitcoin seems like the best choice.

If you have no problems checking your portfolio every day and you are only looking to maximize your profits then a portfolio made exclusively with altcoins seems like the best choice.

And if you want to obtain good profits in the market but you want to reduce your risk significantly then a combined portfolio of bitcoin and altcoins makes the most sense.

As for bitcoin's movement with these past few months, it is kinda safe to buy now, like a 50/50 situation to win or not with minor spikes. 100% funds on bitcoin isn't that fun at all, you don't even have a chance to get up if you fall the only option for you after that is to wait long. There must be 2-5 crypto after bitcoin on your wallet, I must recommend the trendy ones or those that has a significant growth with past few months. We've seen what bitcoin could reach, we know what it is capable of but it is not always on that phase.

Who knows what heights can them achieve if that would happen?
There are already alts that slowly grinds to top like Verge, You can see its trend on CMC after a partnership with pornhub. Maybe Verge is the next big thing, Who knows?

Diversify.Diversify.Diversify

This issue has already been discussed many times on the forum.
In order to answer it, it is best for you to study such a concept as diversification, since there is no sense in investing in only one project because it involves extremely high risks.

You can learn more about diversification from topic  Is diversification into different coins really a good advice for Newbies? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5199926.0)

What was right in the past - diversify or not?

If it's one or the other, I definitely choose Bitcoin.

Most of the time, altcoins are constantly downtrending against BTC, as seen here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5199962.msg53032250#msg53032250

.....so holding altcoins usually means losing BTC. I only like to hold altcoins for a few weeks or months at a time, when alts are in a global bull market. Otherwise, you can end up bagholding for a long time.

Not to mention that this is a bitcoin forum.

I detest making recommendations about specific coins, but I would confidently advise anyone asking the same question op is asking to hold the majority of their crypto in bitcoin.  There's just no beating its dominance, popularity, and market liquidity.  If you *have* to hold altcoins in your portfolio, I would focus only on the biggest name ones like Eth and the like, and they shouldn't make up the majority of that portfolio.  Every crypto is risky, but altcoins are probably the riskiest of all.

Proof of stake coins might be a good choice because of the income you can earn, but unfortunately all of them seem to underperform in terms of price.  I'm not sure that the income from them keeps up with their drop in value.

Diversify if you do able to do so because we cant really deny the fact that BTC would always been preferred by the entire community when it comes to future Hodling.

There were alts that are worthy to hold though that's why if you are financially capable then its much wiser to go on both sides but be sure to handle out the risk.

I like to hodl altcoins because it is cheaper and you can have many of it so that a little move up in price, you are making huge difference in your hodling. I look for valuable coins though not really easy to determine.

Maybe we can learn a two with this guy, EXPERIMENT - Tracking Top 10 Cryptocurrencies of 2019 - Month Ten - UP 39% (https://www.publish0x.com/top-ten-cryptocurrency-index-fund-experiments/experiment-tracking-top-10-cryptocurrencies-2019-month-ten-3-xplxrj).

Quote
Overall update – Bitcoin with a sizable lead followed by Litecoin. All cryptos in positive territory except Ripple and Stellar.

BTC and Litecoin are still far ahead of their peers, up +145% and +95% respectively in 2019. My initial $100 investment in Bitcoin is now worth $250.

All Top Ten cryptos are still either flat or in positive territory except Ripple and Stellar. Although each increased in value in October, Stellar remains in the basement down -40% so far in 2019, followed by Ripple, down -18%.

So it's pretty obvious that BTC is still the king here, his investment in alts seem to fluctuate alone but his bitcoin investment alone is up. So you can draw your conclusions with his experiment and I'm sure you will know the answer.  ;D

Altcoins is indeed a good investment as well but since bitcoin is the top coin, investors wants to hold more btc than to any altcoins. If you are going to invest or trade, you’d better to have good coins on your wallet. Invest on btc and other altcoins, its diversifying your money and it can lessen the risk since bitcoin can become an expensive coin again. I do support holding with the top coins, but don’t hold the shitcoins.

If I had to choose one, that would definitely be BTC. I do not worship other "peon" while the king of the market stands.

Definitely! If you look at the volume of the market, only 16 billion of the 57 billion volume belongs to BTC (according to CMC) and the rest is divided among the altcoins, and that means that most people are in the same thought.

Cheaper and holding it more than bitcoin won't guarantee you will earn profit from that. I ever buy an altcoin which i think promising, but in few months later it turned to shit token and almost down to 1 sat, which make my investment value dropped so deep.
Since bitcoin halving will come soon, people would prefer to buy and hold bitcoin rathee than altcoin

Most of crypto experts are never recommend to hold only one coin or even less than 5 coins on the whole portofolio. Holding many alts and bitcoin but with bitcoin dominance in our portofolio is always a best option for crypto investors because holding just one coin is really risky to our investment because a coin could experience a sudden drops that will make us panic because we'll see our portofolio drops so deep

Experts has no distinct way in which will still depend on their experienced as well as their technique and strategies. Nowadays, makes all of us very miserable due to the bearish market in the word of crypto currency community. Hopefully, soon it will pump as wish by many investors as well as those users as what was happened way back 2017 last quarter.

If i were to hold a single currency it will surely be bitcoin but i do not prefer holding or investing my money on just a single coin, imagine what will happen if the currency you are holding losses its value then you would not have anything in your portfolio to back it up because it is a 100% whatevery currency you are holding, multiple crypto holding is a must do for us.

Well maybe it is still a good time to invest on some really good altcoins out there because bitcoin halving may increase btc price next year and btc affects the price of the altcoins so you may also consider buying some good altcoins.

I tend to hold multiple crypto coin holding for a purpose. I usually make my portfolio 50% for Bitcoin and 50% for the altcoins such as XRP, ETH, XRM, and etc. The reason why I do that is because I believe that Bitcoin is becoming more aggressive than altcoins which the tendency is that it can go the moon leaving every altcoins behind. On the other hand, we should also consider that some altcoins will be able to go with BTC and possible will gain value more aggressively thus we should give attention on it also IMO.

I would go for a diversified portfolio, but baised towards Bitcoin. I would only allot small percentage of my funds to altcoins and not just any altcoin that is too speculative, but only those who serves true purpose such as XRP and ETH. Other than then, mostly all of them are shitcoins and cannot expect more into them. Then I'd go for Bitcoin especially when the price dips and I don't expect it to go lower anymore.

I support multiple holding portfolio but with a larger percentage in bitcoin.
The fact that bitcoin have a larger possibility to be pumped gives us the better opportunity for profit.

As long as you can manage different coins then it would be enough to make good profits either in long term or short term trading.
Also, add the risk you are taking. Minimize that risk by picking the right coins to add in your portfolio.

Hold Bitcoin ensures your safety when investing in this market. The value of altcoins is often very volatile and easily collapses if the market turns red. I'm not sure what will happen next but the altcoin season will not happen this year and will take longer than expected. Currently you should only care about the value of Bitcoin because if the coin is not stable, there will not be many opportunities for us.

I always analyze and devise the most appropriate strategy when investing. Sometimes this market still makes me lose but I believe Bitcoin will never lose value because this coin is getting better.

Bitcoin is expensive but it should be mandatory to have it. You might want to have like 90 percent of your capital being bought with that even with a high price.
Then you could go Ethereum and maybe Litecoin as next in line.
If you want to go with cheaper coins then there is XRP.
I would stay with those trusted coins rather than risking it with a new one which is so difficult to predict if it can even be pumped.

I'll choose bitcoin, well mostly, and a bit of altcoins in hand. It's very risky whichever we choose, but if our portofolio is a 100% alts, it's a lot more dangerous when bitcoin price falls down, alts will suffered the most from the fall. I've never really hold alts for a long term, mostly for a daily-weekly trade. Since the price is very volatile and a bit of news could make the price turn upside down. So it's good to have a bit of profit from time to time. While waiting for bitcoin price to kicks in.

I like to hodl altcoins because it is cheaper and you can have many of it so that a little move up in price, you are making huge difference in your hodling. I look for valuable coins though not really easy to determine.
I wouldn't recommend that, if your portofolio is full of cheap altcoins. Indeed if the price increase just a little youll get quite the profit. But what if it's the other way around, I'm certain you'll know what happens next, right!?

Splitting your investment can be done when you aren't sure with your portfolio. Buying crypto accompanied by big risk so you should continue doing your research and make sure to maximize the potential benefits.

Buy 80% of your funds with bitcoin and the remaining can be alt or combinations of alts that you see to have big  potential to pump.

In my own point of view, if i would gonna hold one cryptocurrency that will be bitcoin. My answer is very obvious because bitcoin is the most profitable cryptocurrency that i have invested since i started using it. But if i would hold multiple crypto coin i will put the half of my money in bitcoin while the other half is i will put it in a altcoin that is also profitable and good for long term investment.

We often discuss the comparison between altcoins and bitcoin, I understand there may be some newbies who still don't understand.
In determining which is more profitable it depends on the situation and conditions. If conditions like now which the altcoins development
is disappointing, of course a 100% bitcoin portfolio is the right choice to make a profit. But  in the future if the market conditions will recur
as in 2017 then the answer to holding multiple crypto coins is more profitable. Because when in 2017 all the coins, both bitcoin and altcoins,
reach the ATH price, so we will be very profitable can hold multiple crypto coins.

In the current situation, I think we can invest in both altcoin and bitcoin. Now that the market has not recovered, the prices of Bitcoin and ALtcoin are still very cheap, this is a good opportunity for us to buy. I believe that in only 6 months the market will start to grow and the prices of both Bitcoin and Altcoin will be very high. I think we should buy a few altcoins in the top 50 and hold in the long term, this will bring us a lot of money.

I think if i had a chance to buy coins i will buy both bitcoin anf ether. This coins are good to hold for a long term investment. Holding multiple is good for those have big capital that they can buy more bitcoin also ether. Better to hold that two coins altcoin and bitcoin to have a good profit in a future if that both coins go up the price you can get a good profit.

I prefer holding on to some altcoin. but if it has to hold one. I will choose Bitcoin. in altcoin I always remember this message "don't put all your eggs in one basket" so I divide my assets into several altcoins, because I believe the difference in increase will make me not confused. because you already have all the coins.

Every investor has his or her own strategy. My strategy is to diversify my investments, this way I can avoid losing all my money.
In any case I think we should hold some BTC because BTC is the king of the cryptocurrency market.
This is my portfolio at the moment.

20% ETH
20% LTC
20% BNB

Holding multiple kibd of coin is wise investment but I think if you are small time investor it is hard to produce a multiple capital for a multiple coin. In my own opinion holding pure btc is more practical because all we know the power of btc and also known as the strongest coin here in crypto. I am trusting bitcoin because I am one of many investors who has a huge profit when bitcoin hit in almost $18k. So it possible to happen again.

both can have very good potential to be able to grow your assets only altcoin has a higher risk than bitcoin because altcoin has a very large supply but the demand and use is not too much, different from bitcoin which in my opinion still has a guaranteed profit if stored for a long period.

And also we cannot blame anyone on it's decision since we provably get enough for those sad events and want to stick on the strongest since the probability to earn is so high.

for me, 70% bitcoin, and 30% altcoin. the reason I chose this is because bitcoin, in general, has a dominant increase, so I put greater expectations than the altcoin. I also chose altcoin like ethereum, BNB, etc. because it is a popular coin. the potential for the increase can be very high. although it did not become dominant, but I think an increase above 30% has been very profitable.

Definitely agree! It is good to invest in bitcoin morethan altcoin. Since bitcoin is the market foundation and any fluctuations happening from Bitcoin will inflict to the whole market and most of the time, altcoins follow it. I think it is good somehow to buy altcoins because there are altcoins we can hold for a long term. They might bring us also into a million dollar profits.

Bitcoin is the most secure to use. If you have to hold for long term, hold BTC. There are altcoins that is worth holding also, ETH is just one since its the 2nd largest market right now and while they are going to move to POS, you might just try holding some ETH maybe 32ETH for holding and staking because its one way to grow your ETH without risking by trading.

bitcoin should have big portion in our portofolio cause its value secure enough than altcoin. While crypto market dumping bitcoin could recover faster than altcoin. But if we want to buy altcoin ,better to pick up on top 10 CMC only.or alternatively ,we have to find sleeping giant on market that will give us huge profits, but its difficult to find except we will do deep research and observation in many projects.

I hate to tell you this, but that's a common fallacy in investing--in the stock market, novice traders tend to want to own 100 shares of a stock trading at $1 than 1 share of a stock that trades for $100, but obviously the money involved is equivalent.  And when you're talking about altcoins, they're much, much riskier than bitcoin itself is.

As far as OP's question goes, I guess it sort of depends on how much money you're investing, but I definitely wouldn't invest everything in altcoins and I'd always have some bitcoin in your portfolio.  I'm not a huge supporter of altcoins, because I think most of them are really shitcoins, but there are a few good ones that might be worth owning.  But I'd say if you were only talking about $100 or thereabouts, you might spread that around a few of the top altcoins because you might get lucky.

If you had $1000 or more to invest in crypto, I'd keep the majority of it in bitcoin and wouldn't fool around with shitcoins at all.

I'm holding both altcoins and bitcoin, it is good to be more flexible to have a lot of choices to gain more profits in the long run, though I don't hold BCH. The reason why I don't focus on bitcoin is because of what I've experienced in 2017, I only join signature campaigns who pays bitcoin then when I've tried altcoin signature campaigns, I figured out that I could earn more in altcoin bounties, so I went full time on joining bounties after one another.

I just switched back to bitcoin signature campaign when a lot of scams happened in ICOs.

I personally think that it's best to always diversify, Bitcoin is the most used and trusted currency, however, there some altcoins out there with massive potential, you just need to research very well and invest wisely

Unless you are a die hard fan of a coin, you are going to put all your eggs there in one basket but thats the most risky thing to do incrypto since altcoins are usually going to be dumped. If you haven't notice yet, most of the altcoins since the bear market being in the early 2018, their value is less -90%. I pay the price for being a hardcore fan and this is why I'm sticking to BTC most of the funds I have.

~snip~

I have a criterion, at this moment it is better to have Bitcoin, any movement would have a variation in the FIAT currency, be it dollar, euro ... taking into account that now the market is with high volatility samples, since we are in the possible beginning of the bullish trend phase (according to Wyckoff's theory), when confirming the bullish trend, it is good to buy altcoins but at the time that Bitcoin performs the correction, because the altcoins would be much cheaper, it would be the ideal time to buy altcoins, because when bitcoin follows its trend, altcoins increase in price, causing their value to multiply, either x2, x3, x4 ...

Already after having a good profit, it is good to pass it to Bitcoin, because the satoshis would increase and the Law of Supply and Demand would be fulfilled, where the higher the Demand and the Lower Supply, the price increases, as was the case in December from 2017 and early 2018, when the entire market, including alternative currencies, were in green, I consider this to be the best stage to buy alternative currencies and change them quickly after having achieved a significant profit, the ideal is to start the Stage Distribution , which already has a new ATH bitcoin.

Yes. I would rather choose to focus more on my bitcoin portfolio because it has higher chances to earn huge profits. But to be more practical, having a multiple portfolio for bitcoin and altcoins might give us more security in earning good profits compared to focusing only in one investment.

You might reap huge gains with altcoins, but many alts just don't ever take off and especially investing in newer alts can be much more risky than simply putting money into Bitcoin through a single buy or dollar cost averaging and holding the money over time. Crypto's risky overall, and it's very possible you could lose money even just holding Bitcoin, but Bitcoin's definitely the safest option at the moment and I would suggest investing most of what you've set aside for crypto investing into Bitcoin and then altcoins next if you really want to put money into alts.

For the mean time, I think it's better to have 100% Bitcoin portfolio for me because the december month is near thus there could be a lot of surprise and Bitcoin could be overwhelmed at that time and if that happens your money in Bitcoin could increase or gain decent value in a short period of time. This december month seems to be bullish month. Better to buy back some altcoins by next year IMO once the market becomes bearish.

I'll be diversifying my portfolio. So my chance of gains would not focus only in one opportunity. Alot of hodlers, I supposed, do the same thing they diversify their hodlings into different alts particularly they pick among the top 10 for assurance of the gain somehow. Picking up one crypto for you to hold isn't recommended here and in addition not a smart move though.

Holding a multiple crypto portfolio is most preferable. You don't have to focus on a single coin only. That is a poorly-created and very risky portfolio for me. I will have to repeat this although this has been repeatedly said by many here. Do not put your eggs in a single basket. Whatever happens to any single coin, if your portfolio is a mixture of different good coins, its total value will not plunge. In doing that, you are managing your risk pretty well. If you are risking your entire portfolio in one coin only, it will only take a bad decision of that coin and your entire portfolio is gone.

For me, Only Bitcoin could be the best for the holding purpose, You know that Bitcoin growth is huge in comparison to the other cryptocurrency so if you can hold Bitcoin only then it might bring back to you a good result in the coming days, I think this is the best time to hold Bitcoin because we are passing almost the end of this year, we have seen in the previous years that the price increase at this moment, but multiple holding is not a bad thinking because who knows which platform will click, so two or more option should have always so that we can make up and minimize our losing option. so multiple holding should be the best

As long as we know how to manage a good portfolio, there is a success even you buy more altcoins than btc.

You already have two questions here now, but to answer your first sentence, I think that if I am asked to deal with just one cryptocurrency, of course it will still be bitcoin alone, because this is the coin that has more community more and it would be easy to actually trade within this cryptocurrency space than every other coins you see.

If you go to any merchant shop now, before you can get to see any other altcoins, I think that the first coin you will be seeing is actually bitcoin first, then you can see any other coin as an alternative. if I am giving the chance to diversify into at least one altcoin more, I think that the best choice will still be that Ethereum , which we can also see that they are still the two major coin in the market and they have the largest usage and community.

You have had the same experience as me during that time. Now things are different and we have added a lot of experience in investing so avoid a lot of big losses in this market. I think the capital allocation and asset management should always be the top priority when participating because without the plan, it will be difficult for you to make money here. I personally only invest in new coins this year and always consider carefully before making investment decisions.

However, some coins make me lose money but there are some coins that help me to make a high profit so in any situation you need to be calm and not panic when market turns red.

100% btc portfolio is only for passive general holders, I'm sure the majority will also consider altcoin, especially for traders and investment practitioners.

diversification is useful for maximizing short-term profits, and with general knowledge one day can be totally converted to bitcoin when the bull's momentum has been confirmed naturally.

Its better also to have it in time that its price is still very affordable. Indeed, its really best to have it all but more of bitcoin to have many options in case one fails.

This is I prefer invest in bitcoin and some altcoin. At this current stage my top investment is in bitcoin and some altcoins which I believe price could soaring high once the market is in bull run. Diversify portfolio is indeed a good option but never invests in an altcoin that is not profitable in the long run.

It all depends on the psychotype of the investor. I read an article on neuronics about conservative investors, it said it was necessary to combine bitcon with altcoins, and bitcon should be about 60%, and everything else altcoins and those that are in the top 50, no further. And if you are an aggressive investor, then of course you can pick up a bunch of promising altos from the top 100 and even 200 and hope that something shoots.  :D

I agree with you. Bitcoin investment is predicted to be very promising and the profit this coin brings us is really great so if you are considering investing, buy now. In addition, some altcoins such as ETH, BNB, ATOM should also be considered more because these coins are always held by many investors and will definitely increase in price someday.

Why to stick with bitcoin? There is no need of that. For profit purposes, stick with what's profitable for you and in what you see a bright future. Some people can't look beside bitcoin and others prefer mixture.
It's not like I say bitcoin and others agree with me and then you decide that oh yes, bitcoin is great and I'll stick with it.
Do personal analyzes of bitcoin and altcoins which you consider worthy, read news around them, see if there is anything planned which can affect price of  any of them (for example ethereum was supposed to be asic resistance but bitmain announced asic miners for it).
Also decide how much can you handle, will you have time to invest in 4 altcoin and take care of this investment? Will it affect your job (if any)? Will you be capable of reading news around them? Remember, try to catch good moments, not all of them.

If your goal is want to earn more profit every time you invest all of your coins, I think it depends on the market price or the cryptocurrency because sometimes when the bitcoin rise, the altcoins go up too. Still, in terms of transactions fee, bitcoin has more charges than the other coins because it is the most profitable coin today. And If I will choose between the altcoin and bitcoin, I prefer the investment in bitcoin because it has the top price of all the coins, and after that, I will use the altcoins for trading to lessen the transaction fees.

I guess OP doesn't experience how risky the cryptocurrency is without taking too much precaution when investing a single cryptocurrency. Either 100% bitcoin or altcoin portfolio none of them would matter if one will have a recession you can't do anything for your investment if that's going to happen. Although bitcoin might give you a chance but it would still be better if you do hold more crypto in your portfolio so you can diversify if things go sideways.

If some ody is holding a single crypto such person will definitely miss out the benefit and opportunities which the other crypto provide.

A 100% altcoin portfolio?
Altcoin market are highly manipulated and not totally secure in term of investment cause the decision of arbitrage traders determine is price status.

Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?
Bitcoin it a good investment but investing it all in a crypto is naive act.

You need to conduct your own research about this as statements here are purely based on people's different views and preferences. You might see others having a good run on a certain strategy but it doesn't mean you will have the same result.

Diversifying is always an option but why others still don't see it as an effective way? That's because our strategies vary at each other. Some became a success at diversifying and some are not.

Try to know what fits you.

This type of survey question or thread has been around and you have an idea where majority will tilt towards  ;D. For my own position, I believe multiple hodling is better because any potential use case coin has a time of bull.

Based on my own understanding, bitcoin is greater than altcoins so i will choose 100% bitcoin to manipulate. Holding multiple cryptocurrency is very hassle and stressful. I only partially agree with your opinion, that bitcoin is really better than altcoin when the value and support of the community has persisted for a long time but this cannot be the main reason for us to invest in it and ignore altcoins, this market is not just about bitcoin, altcoin is still a factor for everything to work. And every season is a favorite, sometimes bitcoin will win but sometimes altcoins will work better, so what we need to do is to switch and be flexible between the two options, noting the trend that the market is focusing on to create the best volume of profit.

I don't need to choose, as they differ in aspect and how they should be treated, we all know that Bitcoin is for long term and altcoins can be widely used too just like Ethereum and some other altcoins, so for me, we don't need to compare things, we should just know what should we prefer, short term or long term, then we must be ready and check those coins/tokens which is the best.

But most newbie now when they come to invest in cryptocurrency will find a coins which still have a low value and use their fomo without any know the future of the coins itself. Even, they didn't know to differentiate scam coin, legit coin and shit coin.

As a result they will get a huge loses and even all their money just gone away. and I will prioritize bitcoin because it will be more profitable than altcoin, and the altcoin that I choose is Ethereum and Litecoin which I have trusted for a long time and always provide good profits as long as I have them.

If I newbie I'll choose bitcoin to store my all money that aimed for investing. I won't ever look any altcoin although there are a lot of people who suggest that the altcoin is promising.

If so, the dangerous thing is they won't back again and made a false information who deflating cryptocurrency as a whole. So, I'll choose bitcoin first to spend my money because which I feel so far I really comfortable although there was a crash price came.

I think the same, Bitcoin is undoubtedly the best option, there are many altcooins that if they claim to be promising, but for investment, Bitcoin is better, because it gives benefits in a short time, when compared to the stock market, the Investment movements give profit to the 8 or 10 years, however Bitcoin due to volatility their movements are usually in less time, the bitcoin accumulation stage the first of Bitcoin was from 2014-2017, when comparing 3 years the wait is not much, now Bitcoin At the moment, according to Wyckoff's theory, the accumulation stage has already passed, and this indicates that the market is in the bullish stage, but a possible re-accumulation stage cannot be ruled out, everything is possible and valid, therefore The best in investment is and Bitcoin will always be a thousand times better.

DYOR, weigh the risks and make a balanced portfolio that consists of multiple things, not only BTC and alts, but also maybe stocks and precious metals.
Bitcoin holders do not need altcoin to earn big amounts. They are just required to understand bitcoin better and work with it well. If I am not wrong, then it was bitcoin that produced millionaires first and only this coin can return huge profits. Altcoins depend on bitcoin so an altcoin holder should invest in the king of crypto currencies too, if not done already. Above all, trusting your asset is a must.

Why do I need to choose both of them? I can invest those potential altcoins but my top priority is holding Bitcoin. I don't need to choose which one of them because I can accumulate among of them. Bitcoin is for long term holding but in altcoin, I dont hold this for long term purpose because I saw nothing if we hold a long time. Correct DYOR is a must in picking altcoins so you must be careful and researchful as well.

I believe it is a confused question from you I don't know what is a problem in it.
if you want to invest and make the profit in a cryptocurrency field you should choose every altcoins in the market tu to trade that coin and make profit out of it.
Then no one is here to help anyone, all the people here to stay to get the name and make the money. So decided based on your mind thought bro.

I always see people saying that diversification is a way to protect your portfolio and it isn't true, if you had invested all your money in bitcoin not only you will have made more money than if you had invested all your money in altcoins the risk will be many times lower as well, then I ask myself what is the point of buying a bunch of assets that are not going to grow as fast as bitcoin and that are only going to add more risk to your portfolio?

If you truly want to diversify your portfolio then you need to invest in something other than cryptocurrencies, you can choose stocks, precious metals, government bonds, invest in a business, create your own business or do whatever you want.

Investment diversification is very key if you want to play safe as regards your investment capital. Some of us have had a bad experience when you invest your capital in just one coins particularly when you buy at a high rate and you intend to hold for like two years.
I will advise that you use about 50 percent of your capital in buying altcoins and the remaining 50 percent for Bitcoin to be on a safer side.

And also diversify to other investment like you mentioned is something else, it cannot be qualify as the same context on this thread.

You need to divide capital appropriately and this needs to have a specific strategy. In my opinion, 80% for Bitcoin and 20% for altcoin because altcoin investment will be much riskier than Bitcoin so in all circumstances, Bitcoin investment is always a priority. In fact, I only invest when that altcoin grows as strongly as Atom or Bnb because these are options that are expected to be very potential in the near future.

I support hold bitcoin and altcoin. Both are equally profitable if we buy and sell at the right time. No need to wait for prices to soar too high. Saving just one type of coin is also not good because it is the same as saving fiat money. For the top 10 coins in coin market except stable coins I think are very stable and can bring profit if we really use them.

I am not confident with multiple coin holdings and doesn't advise this strategy to newbies in crypto. That's good to focus with bitcoin all alone, and don't ever hope for other holdings because it may destruct your plans for stable asset. Work out your holdings first, because btc growth has not yet begun to soar.

When it comes to investment I do always have this line of word in mind;

"Don't put all of your eggs in one basket" which basically means that its better to diversify our investment and don't focus on single one.

Bitcoin is much more preferred but we know that nothing do last forever guaranteed. So its much better to divide so that you could also divide up the risk just in case.

Before deciding to invest, you should divide the capital appropriately and must know how to manage assets to make the most reasonable choice. Currently the market is still in a downtrend, so there will be a lot of big risks in investment. I think you should hold more Bitcoin and should only spend 10% of total assets to invest altcoin because this year is definitely not a good year for you to make a profit.

I would choose bitcoin over altcoins because it has been proven sustainable and strong currency for so many years. Even the value falls down several times, there's always a huge potential to recover of its own. The momentum is reliable to become a growing asset, and although the behavior is volatile, it was catching the interest of many people who learned the crypto economy. Altcoins sometimes good, but in most cases it will crash potentially at nearly zero value.

I don't know what use of altcoins is increasing, but from what I see a lot of people are complaining about the price of ETH and slow development of ETH, people don't want to settle for the fact that the price of ETH may never go back above $900. eventually no one will use BCH... If we look at the long run we have:

4,843 altcoins, these altcoins are competing with each other, which means they will have to compete a lot and few of them will survive in that market.

A 100% altcoin portfolio? Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?

100% bitcoin

Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?

altcoins are a big risk

Since anything is possible in crypto space, I will go for multiple holding wherein 70% in Bitcoin and 30% in altcoins. There is one more good reason for diversifying, some of the altcoins have a promising future, and in time they can make a higher profit for you. Two good reasons to have a portfolio with Bitcoin and some strong altcoins.

It does not really need us to keep Bitcoin alone for we haven't an assurance. Bitcoin will always be trusted but somehow we need to take some precautions and taking some options to altcoins. I actually doing this since before and it is quite safe. But of course, we take consideration also when investing altcoin, we have to invest only those who have potentials otherwise, you are just throwing your money.

I love bitcoin but in terms of opportunity, I would go for altcoins. There is a lot of altcoins in the market where we can trade them or either earn them through signature campaign or any form of services that we can offer in exchange of an altcoin. Because of their types and numbers in the market, it will be easy for us to jump into another altcoin which provide efficiency in terms of maximizing the potential profit.
So I think comparing bitcoin with altcoins is like a joke. How can anyone do this comparison? Altcoins, do not have any identity of their own. They are nothing without bitcoin. Some people would dislike or hate this but fact remain the same. No can deny that altcoins survive with the help of king. They do the same what bitcoin does. Altcoins are mere followers of bitcoin and far below it in terms of gaining value.

nowadays, almost everything looks the same. besides stable coins, almost all cryptocurrency has a dump price when bitcoin is dumped. even like that, I still focus on bitcoin. the reason is easy. when bitcoin prices dump, almost all altcoin dumps, but when bitcoin prices rise, it cannot be ascertained that altcoin prices are rising. so, I will still focus on bitcoin for now, even though the storm dump has come.

Have you ever watched the price chart? So you have never noticed that about ninety percent of the times the price of altcoins usually goes down when the price of Bitcoin is going down? So, if it's mainly that way, why then should you be saying that altcoins are a better choice? Even experts predicts that if there should be bull run this time that there is the possibility that altcoins won't even increase, except a few of them that are on top the chart alongside Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is always a good choice for investment when it comes to cryptocurrencies, but you know what's best for you. I prioritize altcoin which is on the 10 CMC list to hold. But I split 60% for altcoin and 40 for holding bitcoin. Altcoin and bitcoin are very, very important. At the moment, I only prioritize holding Bitcoin and restricting transactions for the time being because the risk is too great and Bitcoin is suffering heavily from the recent bad news. The market has not been able to recover in the way that people predicted and the downtrend is still lasting during this time, so altcoin is definitely the investment that makes you lose money the most in your investment.

Understanding the risk of your invested money can give you an idea of what you do when certain movements is not favoring your investment. Splitting and not to put everything to one basket definitely the best options to do. All things can be done if you are well prepared and you extend your time studying the market trends. Both options are good if you are willing to take the risk.

in my opinion, it all depends on what strategy will be used when investing. I myself will choose bitcoin when I decide to invest in the long term, or invest from one year to the next. and when I will do a short-term strategy, maybe I will choose altcoin as my choice. in such a way, in my opinion will minimize the existing risks. because I myself believe in bitcoin to be waited for a long time than altcoin.

You were right. This is pretty common to investors. And this was proven over time. Lesser risk. If some person do not want to hold many coins then minimum of three is not hard. Big investing companies are always venturing into different projects and they are guided by financial experts. We do not have financial advisers but we can try to copy these successful companies basic strategies.

We should diversify our portfolio. I don't really care that I should keep bitcoin or altcoins, because what I and other speculators care about is profit after a month. Which coins can bring good returns, I will definitely buy it and wait for the pump to sell and sell. But I usually choose alts to do this more because it has a smaller marketcap and the pump is usually stronger. The altcoins that I say here are the top 100 alts, not the shitcoins. :D

Personally, I like to take risks and like to get rich quickly so I like to choose alts that no one has noticed and hold it for long term. I usually choose alts outside the top 100 and look at the chart and its community to determine whether to speculate or not. 100% of my speculative portfolio is alts and there is no bitcoin.

I myself will choose bitcoin 100% because holding bitcoin in a portfolio is more certain than collecting lots of altcoins, my suggestion is that if you have more capital, the difference is also allowed for solid altcoin and only for short-term hold. Prioritize bitcoin in your portfolio because of the bitcoin price has a good quality in its history
Bitcoin investment is always recommended in this market because this is the safest investment for investors and will help you to make a big profit if you have patience. Don't invest in altcoin right now and stay away from this coin this year because of the huge volatility of altcoin that makes a lot of investors lose money. I think investors only care about Bitcoin and no one is interested in altcoins this time.

I already bought altcoins when i saw the value of bitcoin starting to go down and bought only that i know will start to rise. And if we hold our bitcoin we cannot take advantage the market's crisis.

That's if you already have bitcoin then you might need to buy and sell to make a profit and altcoins today will surely rise since we all know that its opposite when bitcoin's value are going down then altcoins are going up.

I diversify my funds so I do not all in bitcoins or in altcoins. I trade bitcoins and also some of potential altcoins like Ethereum, Xrp and bitcoin cash. The reason why I diversify my funds is for me to have good risk management.

yes, every traders must do that. Diversity our asset will help us to avoid big losses , and alsonwe could mix profit and loss potency in our portofolio. Some coins get loss and some coins get profits. And in this condition we should do our own strategy to maximize profit.. And now i am trying do it by buying some binance coin from my btc. I hope i get maximum profits when both this coins price recovered

It depends on your mindset. On the one hand, I may recommend a 100% bitcoin portfolio because it's the most stable crypto currency. The other major currency tends to follow it's fluctuations but they are much more vulnerable to speculation due to the lower net worth. It's much easier for someone with lots of money to first buy a lot of, for example Vechain or Nano, and then flood the market in order to buy in even lower when the course crashes. On the other hand, altcoins have made me 10-20x more money than BTC. therefor my investments mainly go into alts, that will double overnight as opposed to BTC.

Your choice is bad in all option, market is red and you want to buy?. In this situation red market will kill all your strategy, why you not try another way to create income out side crypto market. For me, this time bitcoin price is really bad and if I decide to buy back will make my money stuck. I hope you think twice before enter market in this situation, stuck in low price will become nightmare.

Both! I don't see any reason for not having both! You can invest in what you want, you can earn different coins and later trade them for the coins you would like to have. There are many discussions about diversifying, to never have all your money in one place, apply that in the reality and you will have to invest in different crypto coins, and if you are thinking outside the box you should try to have some investments outside the crypto if you wish to be safe in any case. Nobody knows what future holds, that's why we invest in what we think its the best, gold diggers believe in gold, miners believe in crypto, some people believe in something totally different. World is full with opportunities and we are all gambling in some way by investing in assets that have potential future.

Yes you are right and Bitcoin is the only coin that can produce humongous amounts of profit. Only bitcoin has introduced young millionaires to the world. No other coin can do that. Getting rich is no more a time taking or difficult task. Just buy bitcoin and hold it for long, simple as that. By long, it never means decades. If someone buy bitcoins today, he will be rich by 2020 as the halving is approaching us.

I hold bitcoin if for the long term, but if for daily or weekly trading I trade on altcoin. But for eth I believe to hold in the long run because eth potential is very good in the future, I believe that because eth developers always make changes and if realized next year eth will make changes to ethereum 2.0, we welcome it.

actually both can work nicely  . bitcoin can be traded daily or weekly since its a highly volatile kind of coin  , most of the time bitcoin falls and if it falls you can buy it and trade it later or the next day because for sure its value will probably increase again  .

easy profit isnt it  ? while altcoins wont fluctuate that much so you can just hodl them for a while or until they show signs of recovery and that would be the time to trade them   .

It's not as easy as you say investing or buying bitcoin is good but we have to know about the technical analysis how about that you can know bitcoin will move better, if like what you say maybe everyone will buy bitcoin will get rich in 2020 .
By buying bitcoin we must know to look at the correct graphs, news analysis that can also affect the price of bitcoin.

I will consider your suggestion. My kiss is a bit confused now because the amount of capital that I have is very limited. If you think is not better if I save altcoin more than bitcoin? because you know for yourself if bitcoin only with small capital will definitely get very little profit as well. While altcoin there is an opportunity to get a little bigger.

How can you diversify if you only choose Bitcoin? Diversifying means you don't have to put your investment on a single place like Bitcoin alone. It would be wise to invest Bitcoin and altcoins at the same time to ensure your profit during the bearish trend if you are planning to trade daily. Diversifying is a thing now especially altcoins are present already in the crypto sphere.

I believe that on a permanent basis at least 50% of the funds should be in Bitcoin.
The remaining percents can be tried in trade, but only in pair with the BTC.
Diversification is a good thing, but still I would not invest more than 25% in altcoins, since they are unstable.

It is always good to diversify your investment into different coins rather than just investing in 1 coin itself. Also one should be clear enough that investing in good altcoins is mandatory as sometimes just investing in low priced coins might not be fruitful as people desire.

I agree, but very often the price is simply manipulated.
Skills are needed, I do not argue, but very often altcoins do not lend themselves to any technical analysis and logics.

You have to divide the funds appropriately for the current market situation and I think it should only be concerned about Bitcoin because this is the safest option during this time. Of course altcoin investment will be more profitable than Bitcoin but the bear market will only make you face a lot of big risks when investing. I personally only hold Bitcoin and will continue to wait patiently for a while before considering sell.

Basically, bitcoin is very feasible for holding even though the price continues to drop until now, but on the other hand I also still believe in altcoins. So it all depends on which side we look at the prospects of every coin in this industry, because not all individuals apply the same concept about choice to holding long term on their portfolio.

Seperate investment in many altcoins is lowering the risk of get rekt because we don't know which coin will get much price drop and never comeback so holding just one coin in portofolio is a risky decission. And also diversify to other investment like you mentioned is something else, it cannot be qualify as the same context on this thread.
Not if the coin in which you are investing is bitcoin, in the case the price of bitcoin begins to crash what do you think it will happen? Exactly what you are seeing right now in the market, the rest of the coins will begin to crash as well, even if during some periods of time coins move with some degree of independence altcoins by being so similar to bitcoin and by the huge dominance of bitcoin has over this market move in a very similar way.

When you see this there is not much of a point to hold altcoins if what you are trying to do is to diversify your portfolio to protect yourself from the volatility of this market.

NEO are good to hold is one of the coin worth holding because it sends out GAS tokens for holders. I have been holding mine for years already and continue to receive still. EOS is cheap right now and have good potential to compete the platforms these days.

I'm mostly holding altcoins but just few BTC in my holdings, probably just 20% of my coins are BTC and these are just the ones I trade, the altcoins remain on my wallet.

whatever happen in cryptocurrency market , bitcoin will be most collected coins. if another coins price influenced by bitcoin , it could moved its own direction without influenced by other coins price. so its very independence and very save to buy. another coins in my opinion it just projects to collect money from investors. they didnt really build usefull projects.

Since anything is possible in crypto space, I will go for multiple holding wherein 70% in Bitcoin and 30% in altcoins. It is given that majority of us are trusting Bitcoin but we never knew what can happen in the future so for me it's still good to hold some strong altcoin to maximize my investment in the long run.

That's ok, 70% in Bitcoin and 30% in altcoins. I'm for diversification, never hold all your eggs in one basket. Diversifying is good for safety, safety is always important.

We need to risk! That sounds much better. We can't predict the future, we need to risk if we wish to gain some higher profit. There is no assurance, I agree, even for Bitcoin! Every cryptocurrency is a risky investment, and more risk sometimes means more possible profit after some time. We all have some good picks among altcoins, that we believe in the long term, and that's a good thing, we need to support projects  if we wish them to see on top, every project is strong only with a strong community!

Yes, I think bitcoin will be a top priority in investing because indeed big people will choose bitcoin as the best investment and even many millions of dollar transactions in bitcoin,
Now as it is right to invest, the price is already low because there will be an increase in the next few weeks, I believe it is because bitcoin prices will not be this low.

I am a trader so when I see any good signal, I will buy and hold that coin within a few days then sell it at a better price. For me, in the crypto market there should be no portfolio. Because long-term holdings in coins that only know investors' money and run away are a lot. Better yet, never invest and hold long-term bitcoin or top alts, it's all a scam business. and this is just my personal opinion, if something goes wrong please let me know what is wrong with me. thanks.

I'm one of those person who are not satisfied to hold 1 investment option since I really believe that having an alternative option is more greater since we can earn more with this especially if we are wise and choose the best among those alts listed on the market and maybe for this current market  condition it's best to stay on the top alts since this is a safety net for the investors and has high provability to pump in future.

I believe that on a permanent basis at least 50% of the funds should be in Bitcoin.
The remaining percents can be tried in trade, but only in pair with the BTC.
Diversification is a good thing, but still I would not invest more than 25% in altcoins, since they are unstable.

It depends on how skillful and lucky enough we in and out with altcoins, trading alts is always good since the price is agile. If the price of a coin is stable there is no way that we can make profit from them. So i think for investment i'll choose bitcoin and for trading i'll choose alts
Skills and lucky aren't enough to be profitable in trading. Picking the nice coin whether alts or btc in a perfect time can lead us to money. Eventhough you have skills but your investment didn't fluctuate, its useless. Therefore, we just not depend in skills and lucky. Sometimes, we must buy coins depending on its capability to grow.

My current portfolio is 65% Bitcoin and 35% alts... Cannot choose one and not sure it would make much sense.

Depending on alts position and $BTC price, I buy more Bitcoin when it's possible.

Patience is the key.

I think dividing the capital is essential during this time and your options are very good in the long run. Bitcoin should now be held more because the coin is the king of the market and any fluctuations of Bitcoin will directly affect the current market. However, you should only spend 20% to invest altcoin and only choose the coins in the top 30 to minimize risk.

One way or another, you need to manage your assets better and trust only yourself when investing because so much bad news is affecting your psychology.

Having a portfolio that has diversified assets seems to be more stronger than just having a single asset. Investing on few altcoins or bitcoin alone too gives profit, but to tackle or withstand market conditions diversified portfolio is best. Always a portfolio should have bitcoin, and rest of the altcoins based on one's own plan.

There are altcoins that give bigger profit than bitcoin, but to be successful in choosing the right altcoins is not easy. This happens on luck and on observation about the market of respective altcoins. Most of the time bitcoin's growth pattern will be followed by rest of the altcoins. Sometimes this changes, by that time the altcoins help in earning big.

I'll choose bitcoin as primary income, whatever my strategy bitcoin always become the right answer. Piramida money management already prepare for the worst and cut loss point never use long range, very simple but of course patience is the key. If someone suggest ETH/ LTC/ BCH I only can accept as private opinion, so good luck for them.

Of course, I will also spend more than half of my assets investing in Bitcoin because I only trust this coin in the long term and the potential for this coin appreciation is huge. Currently, Bitcoin price is stable at $7000 and this is a very safe option for all investors. However, it is also necessary to monitor the volatility of this market because if the downtrend continues, Bitcoin may drop further in the near future.

Most investors advise diversifying the portfolio. I am inclined to believe that this strategy is one of the best. In what ratio and percentage to create a portfolio you decide, as many offer various options. It should also be noted that it depends on your goals. For example, whether you want to risk and earn more or have a relatively stable income with less risk. Do not wait for ready-made solutions for you. You will have to personally draw up your action plan. In one thing, I’m sure for sure that you need to remove BCH from the future portfolio. 100%. Why is that? Just read the reviews - https://revain.org/projects/bitcoin-cash. Better to see it once than to hear it 100 times.

There Is nothing wrong with diversifying your portfolio, it's good. You shouldn't be relying just on one bitcoin. But if I'm to choose only one Bitcoin I would choose Bitcoin. Bitcoin has always been a good investment for me, majority of the people that are into cryptocurrency prefers to invest their money Bitcoin because they see Bitcoin as the real cryptocurrency.

As for altcoins, before I invest my money in altcoins I always make sure that the alt coin I'm investing in is a good one, I do proper research before choosing. I don't go for new tokens, I prefer bigger ones that are already well established - coins like Ethereum, Litecoin (LTC), Zcash, Binance Coin, NEO, and other top coins in the market. There are times Bitcoin will fall but these coins will go up, though that hardly happens.

Yes. There should always be more of bitcoin in our portfolio because it's still the most  profitable compared to other altcoins. But diversifying our portfolio with bitcoin and altcoins is also a good suggestion but we should know where to invest more of our money to avoid big loss in the end.

As you say, if you are a safe and low-risk person, invest 100% in bitcoin, and if you are high risk and big reward put your money in altcoin, depending on the benefit. The profit you want and the risk you can bear, in the altcoin market is often unstable so you need to watch closely and focus, for me, I will choose both, one for the long term and one for the short term.

While what you are saying is right, many traders do not really have an idea about how to calculate their risk and in such cases it is always better to play it safe and take the lesser of the two different risks, in this case that will be to invest everything in bitcoin because as we know bitcoin is by far the best and most solid coin in the market that no matter what happens it is never going to disappear unlike the majority of altcoins.

Some investors may believe that this strategy is simply too conservative for their tastes but whenever you are investing it is better to take the more conservative approach first and then once you gain experience you can take more risks.

I love to see how patients keep rolling. People would always prefer for investing and holding bitcoin alone rather than to take the risk with altcoins. We have those options but if we think wisely, we can simply point out that Bitcoin is more profitable and that is actually the advantage over altcoins. But for sometimes we also take a look tp altcoins as we also know that some of them still consider good coins to buy just like ETH, BNB and the rest of the top 5 altcoins.

If you choose for a good investment, I think to go for the bitcoin. Bitcoin is the most profitable cryptocurrency coin today. But you cannot earn immediately you must invest a lot of money and take all of your time to secure you will not lose any profit. There are a lot of possible income using cryptocurrency you can gambling if you love playing games, but you will wage your coins or trading just waiting for the time when the price of the coins goes up.
If you want to play safe, don't risk any money better to invest in altcoins because not all the time the price has a huge difference than the bitcoin, It is safe and better for short term holding.

70% BTC and 30% alts that's my best guess. My favourite alts which i'm not giving away anytime soon: XLM, XRP, NEO, NWC
This is what I am doing right now too, most of my money are invested in bitcoin, because even you do not do anything with bitcoin, still it will have a profit on it, even though you did not do anything but just holding it for long term investment. But holding it for so long is risky too. And maybe like you 30% will be allocated to my altcoin. It is really good to have an investment in both of it, because when bitcoin pumps , altcoins pumps as well specially those top coins.

But first of all op you should never ask for financial advice here, there's a lot of people randomly giving thoughts around, take this discussion as a consideration but never pick it 100% .

Bitcoin will always dominate the crypto market and even I have more bitcoin than other altcoins together in my wallet but we cannot deny the fact that altcoins have more features and new technologies which can be used in real world and altcoins beat bitcoin in terms of technologies and features so I think altcoin will be adopted more by start ups in the future but still altcoin cannot dominate crypto market.

I usually trade and hold according to different types of trends. such as when there are any events or fluctuations that benefit bitcoin, I will hold bitcoin or vice versa. At the moment, I know the halving event and the downward trend are being broken by the green candles in recent days. That motivated me to buy and hold until June 2020. I believe this time around bitcoin will have greater volatility than historical halving events.

Well, when you decide to hold long-term, it seems impossible that you only make a portfolio with one type of crypto, because after all having a more diverse portfolio will be much better still with a note just to hold popular coins. You realize that altcoins are slowly getting better and when altcoins are getting better then of course all the crypto will have good potential in the future, so there is no harm in holding altcoins and bitcoin together.

YES, because that's the way hope to minimize the risk, it's called diversification, if I hold full BTC prior to the correction, I might get so frustrated now, but good thing I have some altcoins which the team are still working and active, so even if price fell, it still makes me optimistic that one day altcoin season will take place.

for most people I see, if they have one coin. they will choose a portfolio of 100% bitcoin, because it is too risky if they are at one point altcoin. bitcoin will be easily set in price, and will easily be used as the best option in trading

I agree with you. It is really necessary to divide the investment capital to suit the current market situation because the risk in this period is very high and if not careful, you will lose a lot. Right now invest more in Bitcoin and only hold a few good coins in the top 10 CMC because that is a very safe option. However, there should be a specific plan before making a decision and always calm when the market is down.

You may buy a lot of ETH, thousande of XRP and many more, it is good for you to have a different investment, and if you want you may also do day trading in bitcoin Im sure you will get a profit by day trading. If I had enough capital to hold, I would definitely hold Bitcoin. I will never hold alts because they don't really cause a particular point. As you can see, bitcoin dominance has always been very high over the years, although alts have a lot of new technologies to serve the community. But the crypto community doesn't seem to care about the alts anymore, they focus on buying bitcoin to make a profit in the long run. When the crowd had such great faith, I had to follow the crowd.

The current status of the market is good for bitcoin holding, the price is moving a bit while alts are not. However diversifying is still best, I have bitcoin and alts in my crypto portfolio though I am more fan of btc rather than altcoins.

On the other side this time is a good time to buy alts since the value are much cheaper but make sure to have a long patience because the season for alts seems not gonna happen anytime soon.

So for those who are thinking now, better to think 100 times.

Allocation of your funds are always important to consider. It is better if you will divide your capital in to 4 parts or 25%. For example the 25% is in the bitcoin, the other 75% is in the top 3 altcoins that have high capitalization and have high volume. Do not buy shitcoins or altcoins that have no volume because for sure it can be a dead coin soon.

Especially ETH the feature smart contract is a game changer truly an innovation.

We must think wise, you can see how bitcoin, ethereum are raised up in 2017. We just waiting the big moment to their raising.
YOu must hold bitcoin and ethereum

It is not good risk management if you will put 100% of your funds in bitcoin or altcoin. Diversify your capital and it is good strategy. There is no guarantee that you will earn money if you will put the 100% of your money in an specific coin. What if the coin that you bought goes down? of course you will get panic because you lose huge amount of money.

The fact that altcoins like ETH, BCH and others are slowly gaining more use has made me thinking. If somebody were to HODL one currency, what could it be?

Many people will choose bitcoin because have stable price and when bitcoin down can back up to higher price, just some people want to invest with altcoin and have big risk when altcoin have lower price need three years later to get back our investment money in altcoin, but have benefit by investing with altcoin because can increase to higher price more than 100%.
The advantage of bitcoin is its durability and outstanding growth after incidents but apparently, the cycle of this process is relatively long, sometimes months, sometimes almost a year, depending on manipulation, our money really won't grow if we don't have too much money and time to buy bitcoin. Altcoins do not have superior parameters and are more risky, but profits will be faster, and unlike you say, many people choose this option, instead of holding bitcoin because the reaction to altcoins is very regular, understanding this rule, our wallet will thicken very quickly

For me, Holding one cryptocurrency is not a good idea I rather separate my money or investment in different cryptocurrency than putting it one currency. Maybe the good decision will in a 50% altcoin portfolio and another 50% portfolio be on bitcoin. I always do holding multiple cryptocurrencies and I know it's riskier to invest in one cryptocurrency than separating it. Be a good trader or investor and always make sure that you will not only stick in one currency because there are some good opportunities in other currencies.

I'll chose both bitcoin and altcoin but only ETH. For me because it's battle tested despite countless bubbles they're still here, it has proven truly as a safe haven it may fall but the price and the support from its investors are solid. Especially ETH the feature smart contract is a game changer truly an innovation.
so far, I also only held the two coins. but, my assets are more in ethereum now. I believe that at the beginning of the year the price will rise first compared to bitcoin. some people choose binance coins, or litecoin as good altcoin to hold. however, both are quite worth having, but we also need to choose potential altcoins.

well, i am an altcoin lover, my 90% investment is with altcoin and 10 % in bitcoin but i am long term holder and I have made a decent profit in last few yrs also i will suggest invest only what you can afford to lose.if you can afford to lose then don't invest anything.
It’s about interest of the person that if he wants to earn money from altcoin or from bitcoin  as my first choice is to invest my money in bitcoin as bitcoin has more potential than other altcoin and bitcoin is the mother of altcoins. In case to have attraction For other altcoins I would keep the ratio of 60 percent in bitcoin and 40 in Alt coins.

It's kinda a little bit rare to find someone who's interested more on altcoins more that bitcoin, like 90% of your investment is with altcoins. I personally prefer bitcoin than altcoins, I invested a lot of bitcoin in either trading or some other things. I usually invest the money that I can afford to lose ofc, It's not guaranteed to win anyway, and everyone should take some risk to make money, that's how it works.

Both bitcoin and altcoins are very high risk investment, if you looking for super duper mega ultra double extra safe then you should go for property investment ;D .
But first of all op you should never ask for financial advice here, there's a lot of people randomly giving thoughts around, take this discussion as a consideration but never pick it 100% .

Always making plan B if your investment went wrong, don't put your money in a single investment that's the fatal mistake made by newcomers and educate yourself to manage money properly, that's all the basic instruments that every investor/hodler should have.
This is important, since we are being asked a question about how to invest then we're going to give an answer, however it will be really irresponsible to take the advice of anyone here and follow it 100%, the right approach will be to take all of the responses here with a grain of salt and investigate the few opinions that you think have some merit to it, this will take time but in the process you will learn a lot about the markets and you will be able to choose the right strategy for you.

I know that this approach works because this is what I have done, I read the responses of other people and when I see something interesting I make a research and see if they are right.

Really depends on what you are looking for. If you're a strategic longterm investor then buy btc and hold it till it explodes again, really subjective. I prefer 70% BTC and 30%alts: XRP, NWC, XLM...

For what I am doing so far was I am holding several crypto's on my wallet personally. Because I do believed that doing it was one of the most effective way for me to gain a lot of bitcoin in the future. In a cheapest price amount of the coin it could be multiply for use more x10 or more especially when bulls resume to its original place and time I guess.

Altcoins are in a state or season to defend there existence in this space. The successful ones will get themselves rooted irrespective of bitcoin bullrun, this will depend on the real life use case of such coin. After the next bullrun, most of the CEO of those projects would have gone through a cycle in altcoin and have better understanding of the market. I expect them to have enough money in the market as everyone to keep the value of the project all through the bear season.

I will suggest for you to spread your investment. Yes, Alts is gaining traction but suggesting  the Alts that should be HODL is not ideal. When you multi hold cryptocurrency,  it help you to know the best for long and short term growth. I also understand that some person would prefer holding bitcoin alone, but that would be centralized. Which when the challenges arise, the risk will be magnanimous.
Therefore, I will encourage spreading your investment on multi crypto assets.

If for current market conditions I recommend 100% bitcoin portfolio is safer and more profitable. Because of the price of altcoins
very bad at the moment, so it is very dangerous if we intend to trade at altcoins. If we see bitcoin becoming more dominant now
that is almost 70% is very good if we buy bitcoin for now. Keep doing regular analysis of bitcoin and altcoin, because with current
conditions price movements can change quickly suddenly. Don't make us wrong make decisions.

I think holding only altcoins in your portfolio is not a good decision as a trader because both altcoins are bitcoin is important to diversify your portfolio.  I won't recommend this type of portfolio.

The altcoins will always depend on the value and movements of Bitcoin, that is why no Altcoin will be able to reach the bitcoin gained ground, when Bitcoin falls in price the altcoins fall very intensely, one way to take advantage of these movements is to make them "Short" by Fall time and get benefits from there, but really using the altcoins as a refuge is not a good idea.

The case of Bitcoin as an investment and refuge is something totally different, the only way it is recommended to buy Altcoins is when there is confirmation that Bitcoin is in bullish trend, because automatically the altcoins rise with great intensity.

In my portfolio, I only manage 20% of BTC and Hold for a while. The rest are altcoins that HOLD while showing some growth. I buy some and also sell them. With the ether, I always do Swap to Bitcoin to send money to my bank account. I love projects that want to simplify all these processes that we live on a daily basis to obtain fiat money or when we want to obtain our local currency through crypto.

There are a lot of projects that aim to simplify daily transactions. Though at this point, most crypto are just seen as store of value. A lot of people don't really want to spend and move their btcs and alts. I also think that bitcoin has the biggest chance of actually increasing in value the way people want it. Alts like eth would barely have significant increase unless bitcoin moves. So my stash right now would mainly be bitcoins.

just a suggestion, but increase the percentage of bitcoin that you have. if halving really causes the price of crypto pumps, all good things will start from bitcoin. too bad if at that time you had bitcoin with a minimal amount.

The rest are altcoins that HOLD while showing some growth.
try to have only potential altcoins such as ethereum, BNB, LTC, BCH, EOS, and other altcoins that have top rank. beyond that, I'm not sure that the price will be high enough in the years to come

Bitcoin of course, I have always loved bitcoin on a whole different level than all other altcoins. Don't get me wrong there have been amazing altcoins in the past but that doesn't mean that I don't like bitcoin like my own currency. That is the real feeling, I feel like bitcoin is representing me, my fiat doesn't, dollar doesn't, euro doesn't no currency represents me as well as bitcoin does.

Dollar represents the rich companies of USA, euro represents the nations of Europe and maybe a bit of company as well (in Europe economy is for the government, in USA economy is for companies) but bitcoin is nothing like that, I feel like bitcoin is for me. Altcoins are trying to achieve the same thing but I feel like it is not the same at all, they are just too tiny.

Everyone will choose Bitcoin during this time because this is the only coin that brings a sense of security for investors and if long-term investment, you will make a lot of good profits. Currently Bitcoin is stable at $7500 and this is the price you should choose for long-term investment now because the possibility of reaching $10,000 in 2020 will be very high and will definitely help you have a better life.

In crypto currency the higher the higher profits if it's success. Thats why most people are holding more likely 50% or more bitcoin on their portofolio and the rest are for altcoin to get more profits to gamble their luck.

profits depend on capital if we invest in bitcoin, in fact all cryptos have the same high risk due to fluctuations. but indeed bitcoin is lower because it has a very large volume, so it is not easy to get a pump and dump scheme.

Don't be disappointed.

This market is unpredictable, and that is also the reason why a lot of people want to gamble with it.

Without the decenralization, without the volatility, I don't think these cryptocurrencies will be popular. With the sudden pumps, sudden dumps that most of the people wait so they can reinvest. For me, it is better to have options so I don't need to pick one, I just need to manage correctly my altcoins and my bitcoin. I'll choose both.

if the investment we are doing wants to generate varied profits, it would be nice if we could mix to invest the money we have in bitcoin and some potential altcoins that have good opportunities for the future. because this way can certainly get a profit that we will produce on each coin we hold can be different results obtained later

A 100% altcoin portfolio? Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?
Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?
I think we should invest more in bitcoin now. Bitcoin is one of the most sought-after coins right now and the alts seem to be dying. The volume of the alts is now lower and lower than ever and the growth is nothing special. so I think we should invest in bitcoin now, one of the types of assets that could grow by more than a few hundred% in 2020 due to the halving event. This is a good time to buy more bitcoins.

I don't think Altcoins will gain a higher market share than Bitcoin. Although Altcoin has many technologies and applications in practice. However, choosing altcoin to replace BTC is a long way. BTC alone has fought nearly 70% of market capitalization.
Altcoins came intro existence because of bitcoins so yeah they will never be able to match or get close to the market capital being held by bitcoins. I still think that altcoins are good as long as they come in good numbers and come with a solid plan like ethereum and few others.

I prefer trading in bitcoins still because of the solid nature of bitcoins and the price. I know bitcoins price fluctuates a lot but compare with alts and you will get an idea of what I am trying to say. Altcoins are good but only if you have done enough research about the coin and the team behind it.

It all depends on how much risk versus reward that you're willing to take. Bitcoin would certainly be the much safer option in the long run, but it may not make you as much money as something new and exciting. At the same time, that new and exciting coin may end up not being worth anything at all. Bitcoin is safe. A lot of alts arent.

So it is very good to hold some coins.

I should have kept everything in Bitcoin but some projects made me fascinated about them and put part of my BTC into them and hodling them all now. Hopefully, they will grow with time and my investments will yield. If there was an option to go back then I would never give away my bitcoin for alts.
Investing in bitcoin is always the best optiion to invest in cryptocurrency, the chance of getting profits is high but the profits will not so high since the risk is low.
Anyone who will like or try to invest in bitcoin have not to think that there will be ever a pump and dump scheme because if they will go through the history of bitcoin they will see a continuous rise in the price chart of bitcoin. There are some dumps but in the long term there is a rise from the beginning. It is better if we invest in bitcoin then we wait and we will see a profit in our investment.

Based on the recent movements in the market, it seems that the altcoins are way better than bitcoin in making profit from holding. The altcoins are now moving up and they are giving some altcoin season vibes to the traders and a lot of people are now migrating from bitcoin to atlcoin. Yes, there are shit coins in the market and they are a lot but if you just invest time to research and filter them out then you will find the good ones.

Yes, even you dont trade or do anything with bitcoin, still it will grow a lot and it will have a big profit since it is the top among all the coins and it has many traders that makes the market so unstable sometimes it is up and sometimes it is down , but I believe in the long way run in long term investment, we expect that bitcoin will hit $10000 again.

The preferences will change according to the preferred time, because these decisions have to be made periodically. For short-term investment or trading transactions, Bitcoin should be the only choice, because the dominance of Bitcoin in today's market is very high and leads the market. Alternatives can be preferred for medium and long-term investment or trading, because we know that successful projects on a long-term basis provide a very good profit margin. Therefore, after determining the time to invest or trade, it is necessary to decide what to buy.

I will suggest for you to spread your investment. Yes, Alts is gaining traction but suggesting  the Alts that should be HODL is not ideal. When you multi hold cryptocurrency,  it help you to know the best for long and short term growth. I also understand that some person would prefer holding bitcoin alone, but that would be centralized. Which when the challenges arise, the risk will be magnanimous.
Therefore, I will encourage spreading your investment on multi crypto assets.
Holding altcoins is a huge mistake, bitcoin right now is about 40% of its maximum value while most altcoins are only 10% of their maximum value, this means that bitcoin has held its value four times better than the average altcoin, we are not talking about a small difference here the difference is huge and while I have no doubt that bitcoin will eventually surpass its previous all time high I am not so sure that it's going to happen with most altcoins.

So it is obvious that the best strategy is to hold whatever bitcoin that you have as long as it is necessary for you to obtain profits but when it comes to altcoins if you decide to invest in them and you begin to notice a negative movement in those coins then you need to get rid of them.

If I have to choose one, then I choose the main bitcoin because bitcoin is the main coin of cryotocurrency, most people choose bitcoin in the long run because it is not too risky like altcoin, there are good altcoins like ETH and BCH both always follow the bitcoin chart every when, for me holding altcoin in the long and short term is not a good decision at the moment

Hold both and trade some, I suggest that you should consider long term trading and long term trading to maximize the profit and minimize the risk. And please, don't trade any new coin or coin that doesn't have a reputation. So here is my example:

Currently, I divide my portfolio into:

50% Bitcoin
25% ETH
25% XRP

I have my own funds on trading. I do daily trade and mostly just scalping or minute trade, I suggest that when you are going to make daily trade make sure that you can maximize your time in watching those charts. Buy low sell High simple as that, and you will make a profit.

Yes no doubt in market so many altcoins are available but the best one I like is one and only Bitcoin. We should believe in bitcoin the most for making future investments we should keep bitcoin at priority in our portfolio and other altcoins are dependent on price of bitcoin and it’s only Bitcoin that keeps market move up and down with its demand and supply.

Exactly beta coin to invest your money as long as you can. The more you buy bitcoin so it will make a profit for you. Right now the best time to have some bitcoins as after a few years it will be double in price then it will be lost.  Altcoins  good but only ETH for me is the good coin after bitcoin to invest our money as with few patients we will gain profit
Bitcoin is the most loved coin in the crypto market and people are really crazy about it for its tendency to reach unexpected and unbelievable prices. There is no doubt that the more number of bitcoin you have, the more chances you have of huge profits in the future. Well among altcoins, ethereum behaves like bitcoin and it is never a bad combination to have both bitcoin and ethereum in wallet for big money.

that's a good portfolio. for bitcoin 50% of assets, I totally agree, moreover there is a possibility that the price of bitcoin will go up high. for ethereum, 25% might be good enough, but I suggest increasing it to 30%. however, the development of XRP is not so good this year. I might prefer to hold 20% on BNB, or BCH. Well, BCH always follows the bitcoin trend, so when the price of bitcoin goes up, there is a possibility that the price of BCH will also go up.

Altcoin and good investment but I think Bitcoin is the best hold it can get you a lot of profit. The altcoin is new and Bitcoin is much older. The demand for it is high. Many people use Altcoin again. If Bitcoin is popular like Altcoin, many will use Altcoin. Everything is just a waste of time. There are also many differences between Bitcoin and Altcoin prices.

if you are choosing between to, I think bitcoin is the most profitable because if you are looking backwards about the history of the bitcoin, its start from the lower price and by the time goes by the amount of the coin rise up and reach over one thousand and four hundred dollars that kind of worth it was so vast and profitable if you are investor came from 2017, but today the cost of the coin goes down before coming 2020, and that was not quite good to us, many traders are changing their strategy and techniques to earn while the bitcoin is low, they use the altcoin because altcoins does not have a huge changes unlike the bitcoin and still the traders make a little amount of profit. Still, a profit is a profit it gives you additional money and source of income to you.

Bitcoin is far better than Altcoin and always gives good returns and is always profitable, so I think it's natural that Bitcoin is the best choice in investment and the most popular.
and besides I own bitcoin, I also have several Altcoins like Ethereum and Litecoin which I have long believed and have the potential to benefit in the long run.

If you are an investor then you will say that bitcoin is far better than altcoin. But for the minority of the cryptocurrency space, the traders, they prefer altcoins compare to bitcoin because altcoins are more volatile than bitcoin and it can bring you an easy profit up to 10% in just a day which attracts people from bitcoin to put up their money into altcoins.

For better, You can choose Altcoin 50% and Bitcoin%, but you should really choose the potential Altcoin as you mentioned, ETH and BCH. Because I think the two Altcoins have a good future so it's very suitable for long-term investment. Bitcoin is always the best choice if you start doubt.

it would be nice if you are a Holder, you hold both Bitcoin and Altcoin because that way you will get a double benefit from what you hold if both have gone up. but have to be patient when the price starts to fall or you buy more to hold.
I see it as a simple maths

Bitcoins - Best for price trading and holding because there will never be a time when you wake up and see BTC being reduced to half the price when you went to bed so it's good for hold because the price goes bonkers when it rises but does not go down too much.

Altcoins - Best for high risk traders who don't mind loosing all the investment but are looking for HIGH PROFITS in short period of time.

If you wish to earn more in less amount of time, then go for altcoins while if you are a serious trader who looks solid but small profits BTC if your best bet.

bitcoin is indeed far more profitable if it is invested for the long term, because the cryptocurrency market or other types of coins all depend on bitcoin market price movements. although there are some types of altcoin that are quite potential, but when the price increases it certainly follows the bitcoin price movements.

if you are confused with that, split it 50% bitcoin and 50% altcoin. however, for altcoin, it does have to be popular altcoin which has potential. actually ETH and BNB are enough, but if you have more assets, I suggest also to have another altcoin, especially the top 10 coins besides USDT.

What's the opinion on staking alt-coins? I have seen a whole lot of news about staking this year and it looks like the industry norm nowadays. I'm looking to find out the pros and cons of it as I heard there is a lot that can be said about the tokens and cryptocurrencies that use this as opposed to traditional methods. I also heard that more and more exchange platforms are offering it directly via their service and there are more formats by which to get involved than before. It definitely looks like an easy way to build on my existing investments via the rewards that it offers but sometimes I think it sounds too good to be true and there must be some kind of cons to doing so. What do you guys think? Should I start staking or just stick to what I know and invest directly in tokens?

Bitcoin is the pioneer coin, nothing beats the pioneer , it has also the biggest number of traders among all other coins, so for me? My vote is for bitcoin, other coin needed to be converted into bitcoin before it can be sent to our wallet, I will choose to hold more bitcoins and will make it as a long term investment for me. altcoin is good also, if you dont have $7300 now buy altcoin for alternative investment.

actually it's true, some traders only use btc as a pair trading, i even rarely active with btc / usdt. My strategy is almost similar, continuing to accumulate and only making large withdrawals 2-3x a year. The price of altcoin in satoshi which is smaller and more affordable makes the percentage of profit easier to obtain, and also faster when anticipating losses.

Well, if Bitcoin's price is high, other cryptocurrencies are profitable too. So, now it's great time to buy and hold and when btc will rise, altcoins will rise too. Of course, it's hard to compare some of them to btc but it doesn't mean that they are not promising at all. I've been wondering about buying IOTA, because it will be available on CoinDeal soon. What do you think about this coin?

Yes, you take the example of Matic, you get a 500% profit in BTC just by holding it , if you had just traded the bitcoin instead, even trading good, you'd have made a 50% at most being the best trader and taking a lot of risks.
It is just not worth it to trade with bitcoins unless you already have a huge amount of bitcoins.

I do not understand why you think that trading altcoins is somewhat safer than trading bitcoin, altcoins have lower volume, a smaller user base, they are not used for anything other than speculating with them and they are even more volatile, in my opinion you have it backwards, you need at first to try to trade bitcoin and if you are unable to get profits in the bitcoin market then it is going to be impossible for you to get them in the altcoin market which is even more difficult to trade.

Some may say that is a good idea to invest in icos or ieos but those coins are even more difficult to predict because you do not really know what you're going to get.

Agree, and we assume we will buy more altcoins for reasons of lower prices and also for long-term hold, but when the situation is unpredictable and many other factors that always appear everywhere about the concerns of altcoins themselves, then at finally we will always convert all altcoins to bitcoin, and until finally we will only choose one option in the portfolio for long-term hold is bitcoin. So clearly, although we can choose both, but the main thing is bitcoin because there is no doubt whatsoever to hold bitcoin.

There's even a saying that dont put all of your eggs in one basket which means that you shouldn't be choosing one among thousands of choices.. Holding more cryptocurrencies are much better than just hodling bitcoin or whatever altcoin it is.. Traders earned a lot from holding different cryptocurrencies, every cryptocurrency has its own use case which you can stake, mine or just trade for everyday..  If you are into profits, I highly recommend to you one of my investment which is in by bag also it has a ticker BTM. Bytom is actually underrated in the market maybe because when you are looking for its usecase or technical aspect, people starts to have confusion because of its triple-layer approach to blockchain-distributed applications.. You can mine it, it might look that its not a small investment but its all worth it once you earned from it already. If you want to invest or put some Bytom on your bags, I saw that it has a new exchange called atomars.. You can try on that one because they do have free trading fee which will saves you some..

In fact, you are reasoning correctly. I agree with you that need to buy altcoins when they have fallen in price, as it is now. It will be a good bargain, if in the future there will be a increase in prices. But the problem is that no one knows which altcoin will be profitable. In principle, people respond well to IOTA and have good ratings: https://revain.org/projects/iota. But my personal opinion is that I don't believe in the future of this coin. I would prefer Bitcoin. But here is the problem. It is now quite expensive. Now, if the book was worth 10 times cheaper...

Because I found out also that have some altcoins going to high the price just like on what Im experience in the past year Ill have two different altcoins only and the percentage on it has come to %100-%200 but it was long time past we hope it happen again.

Holding bitcoin are the best move also if we want to hold them for so long actually bitcoin is one of the most trusted coins in crypto.

I will still go for multi-currency portfolio. I still believe on the saying "Do not put your eggs on a single basket" because if you do, you will totally fail if something happens to your single currency investment.  Having multiple tokens also will enable you to enhance your skill on trading because you will manage multiple coins with different value.

Money for investment, maybe only a little percent but steady will be ok. As long we really careful to pick altcoin because if we do wrong the altcoin can be something that make our lose. Maybe in bitcoin only need patient and research in where we buy to make our investment safe. But investment in altcoin is really something that complicated.

As of now Im preferably holding some altcoins, And I choose only those altcoins that have potential to get us a profit on when the time of them to rise the price. Because I found out also that have some altcoins going to high the price just like on what Im experience in the past year Ill have two different altcoins only and the percentage on it has come to %100-%200 but it was long time past we hope it happen again.

Holding bitcoin are the best move also if we want to hold them for so long actually bitcoin is one of the most trusted coins in crypto.
almost all altcoins experience the same percentage when altseason appears, all will return when bitcoin is confirmed bullrun even though it's still speculative, or the price won't be better than this year. right now bitcoin is going down very rough and not very profitable for altcoin, i started choosing btc margins as an option because the spot market is making more of my assets floating.

Yeah altcoin is also good for holding and now a days the price of altcoin is very down and those people who have money they need to invest their capital in altcoin, and yeah all altcoin is not good for investment now which altcoin have good value in current market its good for us. And otherwise those people who want to secure their funds then bitcoin is very good for them.

The year is about to come to an end and holding altcoins has been a terrible experience for those that tried that strategy, as of right now the price of bitcoin is going down and as you may guess that means that the price of all altcoins is going down as well but even in the current circumstances the bitcoin dominance is growing and it is once again above 67%, which is completely mind blowing, this could be the perfect opportunity for altcoins to begin to grow and yet that is not what we see.

What we are seeing is a complete lack of trust from investors in altcoins and the ones that are suffering the most losses are those that have decided to hold altcoins for the long term.

Altcoins and bitcoin is a must in a cryptocurrency portfolio. Mostly the market change can be experienced relative to the variation taking place with the bitcoin. When there is diversified investment, there will be better results than making an investment on very limited assets. Another thing investments needs to be made based on the ability. If we can invest or spend big then it is good to go with high priced assets and when our spending is limited choosing low priced assets seems to be the right choice.

prefer to hold several than 1 type if you lose 1 coin the others might be able to cover that loss.
but yes you have to really choose a good alt and can survive in market conditions like this, the top 20 maybe.

Yes we can say holding altcoins is the best way for now but as I said we need to choose those altcoins that have potential rather than to shitcoins becoming to trash and no value. Not all altcoins are you mention not good investment? They are too many altcoins are their are worth to invest and maybe you can tell its not good because of your experience on it by investing those unknown altcoins so you probably said its not good for you.

I'll say more. In your portfolio should be not only Bitcoin and altcoins selected by you from the TOP, but also fiat money. You will need money to buy cryptocurrencies in a bear market. For example, you could have done it yesterday.

Fiat money is not an investment tool, in this case, Fiat is out of the way. This is only a choice between bitcoin and altcoin, so you don't need to explain fiat as a tool to buy bitcoin or altcoin when prices are dumping.
in the portfolio he already has, ETH and BCH, only choose altcoin which has the potential, whereas, for bitcoin, it should not be traded anymore and is held for a long time.

can't choose one because it's obvious I'm currently holding bitcoin and altcoin. and the answers of the people here also definitely choose to do both. okay, cheap altcoin can be bought in large quantities but if bitcoin continues to fall, it is useless to hold altcoin. it's safer to hold bitcoin but it will definitely feel something is lacking to hold, so buy altcoin to hold. if you can trade, it is better than doing long term hold.

We should have both as bitcoin is important and altcoins are also having strong place in our life. So we should have both altcoins are good for us and bitcoins are best for an unconditional increase in price so try to have both in the portfolio but the only altcoins I like the most are ETH and Ripple as they are good and have powerful market value.

Backing is good with bitcoin only now because the value of bitcoin is dumped lower in the market and we can utilise the situation as much as possible to make the profit by that.
Altcoins are also dumped but not bigger option to get the big returns so bitcoin is the best option.

The fact that altcoins like ETH, BCH and others are slowly gaining more use has made me thinking. If somebody were to HODL one currency, what could it be?
A 100% altcoin portfolio? Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?
Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?
of course i hold both because altcoins and bitcoin have good potential in the future, now indeed altcoins like BCH, ETH, LTC, XRP, XEM and another coins slowly go to up. but for future altcoins is best choice, altcoins match to save and hold for long term than short term
if you want short term, bitcoin is good. bitcoin good for long term and short term

save in the long run or do you want to trade it? even if you want to survive in the long run I have a suggestion to choose to buy bitcoin, if that's in my opinion, but for example you want to choose to hold and buy altcoin, choose coins that you think have the potential to be able to develop in the future and can raise prices are faster, but not easy to predict, so whatever you choose is your own decision.

How can someone think about investing in crypto-currencies and not to invest in Bitcoin in the first place? It's the oldest coin,
the most reputable, and probably the safest investment in crypto-market. In the same time there are many alt-coins, and some
of them are amazing, how to not invest in them too?
I'm trying to have a bit from everything I find attractive. I invest in Bitcoin and alt-coins, for me many projects have some good
chances for a long-term success.

Of course, I would go for altcoins investment. Because, there are several potential altcoins in the market that are so far very cheap at the majority of the exchange. And I knew once the bull run begin to happen again, most of the potential altcoins like ETH, Waves, Qtum or NEO and more are surely will follows to increase their price value.

You mean the all investors need to invest their all funds just on altcoin? So I think altcoin market have unpredictable as compare to bitcoin so that is why my suggestion is that bitcoin investment is also good for getting the huge amount of profit.

Better to stay more than 50% in BTC for many reasons. For once, we are in a downtrend and most alts are losing their value and second, they are almost never good long term holds. They are super seasonal animal and should be treated with caution.

Yeah I guess it would br goos if the trader follows to invest what bitcoin capital has dominated like 50% to 60%. But then agaon altcoins should not be set aside because there are altcoins that are worth to invest and hold. Actually the time now is perfect to invest in bitcoin since the price is quite loe that it sit for a long time. I guess the long term holding of bitcoin would be too good to have right now.

Indeed, bitcoin is much better when we're talking about investing in crypto, but you need a good amount of money to invest in it because it has a huge price, I mean you should invest a lot to get more profit, but we can also buy some good altcoins that they're in the top 10, It will be better if we are holding different crypto though

I favor your point that we have also invest in altcoins but it is not right that if someone will invest then he will need a big amount of money to get bitcoins because bitcoin is an asset in which any person can invest and any amount can we invest. The price of bitcoin is high but there is also fractions of it in points which enable us to invest any amount in bitcoin.

According to the list of 12 Best Cryptocurrencies for Long-Term Investment : in the first place is Bitcoin. I always trust the statistics ;)
We do not really need any kind of statistics to tell that bitcoin is by far the best long term investment option that we have in this market, look at the long term history of bitcoin and how it has gone up in value during most of its existence, look at the market dominance that bitcoin has, take a look at the technology and how most coins are just copies of the original, take a look at the developers who are the best in the world.

When you take all of that into consideration it is very clear that bitcoin is by far the best cryptocurrency and the best long term investment that you could wish for.
